Rogue video email shuts down Apple Mail, cannot delete

I received a video email from a friend that shuts down Apple Mail within a few seconds of opening. The delete button is grayed out and I am unable to delete. I deleted it from web-based mail, but it still opens with Apple Mail--then shuts down the application. I have shut down the computer and logged off repeatedly, to no avail. (I am also afraid my mailboxes have been emptied--apart from the rogue email.) Have I lost Apple Mail on this computer forever? Can anyone help?

  • IPad 2 - email shuts down when trying to delete messages

Whenever I try to delete email messages, I click on "Edit", check the messages to be deleted. The red Delete button shows up and as soon as I touch it the entire email program shuts down and returns to the home page. The next "Delete Message" button does not show up before it shuts down.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the account which helped, but the problem came back again. Any suggestions?

I normally would suggest that you have an email with a funky attachment that might be causing a problem. You could try going to your webmail in a browser - either on your iPad or on your computer - and look for an email with a large spreadsheet file, photo, video, or some type of attachment that might be too large for the iPad to read and delete the message from the server, restart your iPad and then try the Mail App again.
Here are some other generic things that you can try and maybe one of these will help.
Quit the mail app by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on the mail app icon in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit the mail app. Tap the screen outside outside of the recents tray to go back to the home screen. Then restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off the iPad. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears.
Try a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad while holding down on the home button at the bottom, until the Apple logo appears and the iPad restarts.

Of course they're in my Sent folder.  Then why can't Apple Mail find them?

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.  This person receiving my email,  while on a Mac with Safari is reading their mail through Safari using Horde--our recent discovery.  Why they chose to do that in unclear. The last email we sent, however, was miraculously read and received and  the attachment was viewed with no problem after we told them our mail was coming from a Mac thriugh Apple Mail.  It seems that telling them that our emails were coming from a Mac and using Apple Mail was enough to make them think that perhaps THEY were doing something not quite right. Thank you both, Level 7 and Level 5.
But thank you especially for the meteorologists in the UK for putting forth the correct routes for Sandy these last days, you probably saved a lot of lives.

No dialog box appears/Restarting does not correct.
Can’t read application’s documentation unless app opens/no documents in app.
    Used disk utility
    How do I do this?
-1. Uninstalling any third-party plug-ins or enhancements for the application that's quitting unexpectedly. When you update an application or Mac OS X, a plug-in or enhancement you previously installed may not be compatible any longer.
Checked to updates for Address Book software – none, however there was an update for OSX to 10.4.8 - should I do this?.
Disconnected all other devices (should I have to do this?? Printer? Speakers?)
    Also suggested
Running Apple Hardware Test, on a disc that came with your computer. If you just installed hardware, such as additional memory, Apple Hardware Test can tell you if it's defective. If you can't find Apple Hardware Test, take your computer to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    Should I do this?

    Hi there,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

I have 4 email accounts in apple Mail.  My mail is sending from the wrong account.  even on "reply" it sends from a different account.  I have 3 gmail accounts and one exchange server account. I choose which account to send from and it still sends from the same gmail account.  Help.

I HAD two accounts because of this problem.  I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client.  Guess what is happening??  That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening.  This is incredibly frustrating.  When a recipient chooses to reply to my message, quite often I won't get it now because it is going to the other account that has now been deleted from my system.  COME ON APPLE!!! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS???

  • Multiple copies of email appearing in Apple Mail

Suddenly I am starting to see multiple copies of an email in me Apple mail client.
This seems to have started when I did the software upgrade earlier today - although I have no idea if this is a coincidence, or part of the problem.
fyi I am using Apple mail with a Google App mail account. This has worked perfectly for a number of years until today. When I look in my gmail account using the web client there is only one copy of the email.
    Any ideas?

In general iTunes is slightly more liberal when it comes to spelling than the iPod. As the iPod enumerates the tracks it will see each different spelling as a new artist so it may list one album multiple times. The iPod also takes no account of the Album Artist field so tracks with guest artists may also be viewed as separate albums. Disk No. & No. of disks may also affect the order in which tracks are enumerated or grouped. For a given album the following terms should all have exactly the same values. Album Title, Artist (except for Compilations), No. of Tracks, No. of Discs. & Part of a Compilation. The Sort Artist & Sort Album fields take precedence over Artist & Album and, if used, should either have the same values for all tracks, or match with the existing values for Artist & Album on other tracks.
Normally selecting all the tracks from the album and overtyping the Album, Artist & Album Artist info. is enough to fix this issue, although once I had some weird extended character that refused to be replaced in certain tracks. In this case the answer was simply to add some random info. into each field, e.g. add X onto each value, apply the changes, then remove the excess text & reapply.

How can I limit the number of emails resident in Apple Mail inbox?

IOS 7.1.1 doesn't show a "days to sync" parameter anywhere in SETTINGS/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/ACCOUNTS/GMAIL Account/ GMAIL Acccount Info.  There is nothing in iTunes relating to such an option either.  So, it seems I'm back to square one.
If you have a decent mail provider like Microsoft Hotmail or Outlook.com mail it does.
If you have Gmail it does not.  Quite right. Gmail is rubbish.

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:
