ROI and ESOA

How can I determin a ROI of a ESOA-Implementation?

Hi blue ,
I got some useful  information from a survey...
A study shows that SOA can be understood in two ways.
First, few companies understand SOA primarily as an IT-centric topic. Drivers to adopt SOA can be found in benefits that concern technology productivity and organizational improvements.
Second,The another group of companies considers SOA as a businessdriven paradigm and, therefore, adds strategic measures and business processes to the technical perspective of the first definition.
For the majority of the participating companies, investment decisions were based not only on ROI calculations. Strategic decisions were the main driver for SOA initiatives within the analyzed sample. Various approaches to quantify costs and benefits for the IT organization, business processes, and strategy could be defined. These measures are structured in the presented frameworks, which can
serve as blueprints for other companies to enhance the understanding of cost and benefit categories in SOA business case calculations.
The following nine critical success factors of SOA were identified:
■ Professional  management of project
■ Adequate communication and culture
■ Defined SOA governance
■ Transparent design process using enterprise architecture models
■ Highly qualified project members with business and IT backgrounds
■ Consideration of nonfunctional requirements
■ Top management support and explicit SOA strategy
■ Clear design guidelines for services
■ Choice of a suitable initial projectThese findings are also in accord with current literature on problems and critical

    Tomas,
The VI you are looking for is called, "IMAQ Merge Overlay".   In LabVIEW, It can be found in the Overlay palette, found under Vision and Motion » Vision » Utilities » Overlay.
When dealing with Vision issues, please post on the Machine Vision forum.

  • Setting order of precedence of ROI and Overlay in image

    Hi Folks -
I am trying to have an overlay of points appear OVER a line ROI.  I can convert the line ROI to an overlay, and clear the ROI, to get the effect I want.
However, the downside of that approach is that if the user wants to draw a new line, they always have to re-click on the line tool and redraw the line from scratch.  If the ROI line is still in the image, the user can just mouse grab the end points or entire line and shift as needed.  But if I leave the ROI line in the image, or clear it and then re-draw it, it always appears over the overlay.
The order makes a significant difference when not zoomed in on the image.  One can hardly see the blue line if zoomed out.
I thought many years ago in the Vision user manual that I read about the order of precedence in an image for image, overlay, and ROI, and that ROI will always appear over the image and overlay.  I don't see anything about this in the current Vision concepts manual.

    Hello,
yes, it does seem that the ROI has precedence over overlay display. You could make the ROI dissapear when the mouse cursor leaves the image bounds and use your first solution (to convert the ROI to overlay). When the mouse cursor enters the image bounds, clear the overlays and add the original ROI back.
See the example in the attachment.
    Best regards,

  • Select multiple ROIs and set properties to each of them

    Hi all,
I am now working on a project dealing with thermal camera images. What I need to do is to set several regions of interests and assign some specific properties like average temperature and emissivity to those ROIs.
    So I was wondering:
    1. is that possible to select several ROIs with an array keeping updating ROIs the user has chosen on the front panel? (Or each ROI could have a cluster on the front panel that contains its properties, that can be changed later.)
    2. is that possible to set specific properties like temperature to the specfic ROI, and those properties will be updated to the ROI?
Thank you so much, and looking forward to some great ideas or advice.
    Cheers,
    Sunming
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi All,
The attachment is what I have currently made. However, instead of creating a .txt file to display information, it would be perfect to display the ROI's name and its properties in the front panel, like in the first column is ROI 1, ROI 2, ROI 3, etc., and the other columns will deal with some information about the specific ROI and its properties.. Since I could not find anything similar here, I really need your help.
    Thanks,

  • Need Guidance from SOA and ESOA Experts

    Hi Everybody.
    Good Morning.
I have good experience in JAVA and J2EE.
i am going to work in Services team.
i am new to the SOA and ESOA Concept.
Please tell me, what would be the right approach to know the basics of SOA and ESOA.
Please tell be some books and links which would useful for the same.
Please dont redirect to some other links in forum...(am unable to find the source information when passing thru those links
    Thanks in advance.

IN which role are you going to work in Service Team?
If you are Service Designer you have to know following things
    1. Responsible for placing service reference documents in the Registry (WSDL and XSD) / Repository (usage scenarios annotated with non-functional requirements...)
2.Reconcile candidate service interfaces with existing infrastructure and identify missing pieces (e.g. mainframe service enablement)
3.Analyze all candidate service interfaces and check for gaps, inconsistencies or redundancies (e.g. overlapping service boundaries)
4.Match technical solutions to outlined design constraints (e.g. WS-Security to solve integrity and confidentiality constraints)
5.Formalize Service Descriptions into WSDL, XSD, etc
6.Work with Application Architect and Data Architect to ensure consistency with existing XML data formats and conventions
7.Create virtualized end points in the SM to be used in the Registry
8.Define policy in SM in collaboration with the Application Architect and  IT Security
9.When changing the interface for pre-existing services, the Service Designer is responsible for defining appropriate elements (e.g., namespaces, versioning, and content based routing) that facilitate simultaneous deployment of multiple versions of the service
10.Responsible for ensuring compliance with published WS-Basic Profile
If you are a service developer you will do the following responsibilities
    1. Identify (in collaboration with the Application Architect) and document the design patterns that will be used in implementing the service
2.Participate in creating recommendations for the WS implementation framework (e.g. WAS, RAD) Participate in design and code reviews
3.Implement services (by means of a specific development language and design pattern(s))
4.Successfully execute unit tests created by Service Tester(s)
5.Other services should be leveraged as appropriate with any direct data access designed in cooperation with the DBA and the Data Architect
    6.Document service implementation
7.Responsible for re-factoring and regression testing when changes are made to an existing service
8.Ensure all relevant implementation related documentation is placed into the service repository
If you are a service tester you will do following things
    1. Develop test plans and associated test cases for both unit tests and integration tests for services and service groups, using a web services specific testing tool
2.Ensure successful unit test completion prior to elevation to the Integration environment
3.Ensure successful integration test completion prior to elevation to the System Test environment
4.Ensure SLA performance metrics are met prior to elevation to Production environment
    5.Ensure test results are logged
6.Ensure defects identified through Integration and System Test environment testing are communicated to the Service Implementer(s) and Service Designer(s) for the involved services, as well as to the Application Architect [ Only integration tests should fail since unit tests were confirmed prior to elevation to integration environment ]
7.Test for interoperability and other standards conformance
If you are a SOA Architect you WILL
1.Understand application design, SOA technologies, database and data warehouse design, network design, and the many other aspects of information technology
2.Responsible for documenting patterns that support SOA
3.Responsible for end to end service requestor and provider design
4.Responsible for stating non-functional service requirements
5.Responsible for the recommendation of the architectural framework, its maintenance and communication to Application Architects
6.Responsible for adherence to architectural frameworks
7.Ensure appropriate computational and data capacity are accounted for Know the capabilities of current technologies and work with business to recommend the best technologies to achieve the units strategic goals
8.Work with business units to evaluate software options from an investment point of view
9.Help business to obtain predictable benefits and recommend organizational and SDLC process changes depending on the recommended architecture
10.Work closely with Business Analysts to carefully consider business processes across business units; with the goal to reduce overall cost and improve effectiveness
11.Endeavor to stay abreast of emerging technologies and make appropriate recommendations for changes and additions to the enterprise architecture
    12.Support change management impact analysis
13.Defines the standard naming conventions to be used for managed services
14.Plays a key role in defining the various enterprise architectural frameworks to be utilized
15.Responsible for defining, and ensuring adherence to application architecture framework guidelines and communicating them to the Application, Information and Data Architects etc.
16.Define work flow and approval process for service additions and changes to be made to the Registry
17.Responsible for identification of services and definition of service interfaces
    18.Mediate between business and technology
    FINALLY,
if you stick with a SOA enabled tools guy and try to learn SOA around it, you will remain a blind SOA guy.
SOA is an architecture approach which allow us to do IT enablemenet of business using loose couples services which can be defined by INTERFACES.
SOA introduce a new layer into enterprise architecture which enforce partially and fully following concepts
    1. Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), provide mediation, routing, transformation, translation of interface messages between service consumer and provider. Examples of ESBs are Netweaver XI, IBM Websphere 6.0  ESB, BEA Aqualogic, TIBCO's business works.
    2. Enterprise Service Registry: This tool provide SERVICe goverance views by providing a place for create/admin and manage service policies. Service policies are applied to service in different phase of service life cycle such as service plan, design, build, deploy and manage. Some examples of service registry are XI registry, Systinet from HP, WSSR from IBM. All registries has to follow UDDI specifications
    3. Service Repository: A unified place holder for service metadata and artifacts. Service artifacts are generally based on Object Management Groups Reusable Asset Definition. Some good example of service repository are XI repository, WSSR, Systinet etc
    4. Service Management framework. This is the tool manage the deployed services using service management framework. Examples IBM Tivoli SOA manager, HP SOA manager, XI Run time work Bench etc
Please do not try to learn SOA with respect to a tool. Learn SOA as an Architecture displine to build solution using implementation independent interfaces with supporting contracts and data.
WEB Services, XML, XSD, ESB, Registry, Repository etc are just frameworks supporting SOA concept, it is not really SOA. You can do SOA with CORBA AND IDL if you want.
SAP, IBM, HP, BEA, TIBCO, ORACLE etc are companies building tools using SOA frammework enabled technologies. A tool is not SOA, it is just using SOA as a foundation for thoughts.
When you learn SOA, think outside the BUNN
    Thanks

    Hi
can anyone have idea about how IS-U(Utilities) and eSOA (Netweaver PI) integrated to communicate between different roles in the deregulated Market..
Ex: Requesting Technical Masterdata  in Utilities industry..

    Hi,
quite hard to tell - just as a guess - please check the number ranges you are using. For SD it has to be external number ranges. I think there are some messages regarding this SD part already in here - please check.

  • ROI and color assigning

    Hello all
I got a 'image editor' VI from forum that performs various color assignments (RGB) to the single image on different combinations.
I want to modify it in such a way that I can  select a certain portion(ROI) and
assign a combination(eg;RG) on that part and select another ROI and assign a diffrent combination (RB) etc...
In final output image should contain an image with different RGB combinations on selected parts.

  • Demand Planning and eSOA

I am an SCM consultant, with particular interest in Demand Planning.
I am experienced with SAP APO, but am now interested in how the emerging eSOA environment can help with Demand Planning solutions.
Can anyone share thoughts/experiences of how web services in general and SAP eSOA in particular can provide 'added value' to Demand Planning?
    Thanks,
    Bob Austin, Atos Origin

Generally speaking, the demand plan or forecast is ultimately the "image" of the demand side that the supply side wishes to "mirror" or fulfill against. This view is a consolidation of many views from several players on the demand side -- whose input is provided to a much smaller group of planner-users of the Demand Planning tool.
What eSOA does is to essentially extend the Demand Planning process to this larger audience via a number of means:
The new Duet/Excel capability is one example of this extensibility. Think of all the spreadsheets that are being used to do <i>something</i> associated with the demand management process that you can now start to inject some process discipline and control into.
Another example is the ability to integrate with tools like 3rd party sales force automation or channel partners across mobile devices, etc. Because eSOA decouples the interaction layer from the data itself, I now have greater flexibility to extend and collaborate across an increasingly fragmented "demand chain" and different types of users and devices. The opportunity to add value requires some analysis and creativity -- but we are in the age of user-driven innovation and eSOA is designed for this "self service" paradigm.
    Hope this helps.

  • Difference between soa and esoa

    Hi,
What is the difference between SOA AND ESOA.
    Regards
    Abhay

    Hi
In a nutshell, ESOA are simply Web services that provide enterprise-level business functionality. They may range from very simple lookup services (like finding a company’s location or product offerings) to more complex and composite services — but what they have in common is that they’re highly integrated into your process or application.Typically ESOA are high-level components that take more granular Web services and aggregate them into reusable elements with business value. For example, take the service Cancel Purchase Order. An elementary Web service like Delete Purchase Order would simply lead to the deletion of a purchase order in the corresponding database. However, if the stated goal is “cancel purchase order,” the service has to become a more far-reaching enterprise service that handles this process end-to-end, and therefore has to trigger a number of follow-up actions, including:
    => Check against production orders
=> Check against a corresponding billing process
=> Update of inventory/warehouse information Or consider the Credit Limit Check
service, which at first glance seems to be quite simple. Normally, this service is one ingredient of the Order Creation service. But typically, credit checking is
really a more elaborate composite service.
    5 Key Principles of ESOA
    1. Abstraction — hiding confusing details
    2. Modularity — breaking down complexity, resulting in reusable pieces
    3. Standardized connectivity — enabling flexible composition of services to
    create bigger processes and scenarios
    4. Loose coupling — allowing for separate evolution of the various components
without breaking any points of integration
    5. Incremental design — enabling changes to composition and configuration
without affecting the interior of components, and vice versa

  • ASAP and eSOA: fit or non-fit ?

When implementing SAP ERP including the likes of CRM and SRM we use package based implementation (PBA) methods, techniques and tools - often based on the 'old' Accelerated SAP (ASAP). With the SAP environment now rapidly turning to eSOA supported by the Netweaver platform, will this still be the right way to go ? SAP eSOA implementations seem to have a lot in common with Custom Software Development (CSD). Should we then turn to methods, techniques and tools used for CSD methods as well ?
    What do you think ?

    >>ASAP and eSOA: fit or non-fit ?
    in my understnading ..
ASAP is a methodology (it covers various phases of your  work, like blueprinting/prototyping, realization/implemenation, releasing/going live etc) it can be applied to any project, whether SAP or nonSAP, eSOA or non-eSOA. it provides accelarators with ready-to use templates for requirement gathering, presentations, testcases etc.
eSOA is framework (may be somewhat similar to design pattern in software engineering) where you implement by providing/consuming webservices or enterprise services. every operation that we implement can be treated as a service at higher level.
in my experience,ASAP and eSOA are fit when used together.. provided we are clear with objective of each of them.
ofcourse they cannot be compared with each other.
    thanks,
    Madhu.

One period two spaces.  Not multiple periods.
You have an inner while loop around your Write function with a True wired to the Continue terminal.  That loop will run forever and the outer loop will only run the first time.  You are forced to abort your VI to get it to stop.
Get rid of the inner while loop.

  • Configurator ROI and Usage

I'm trying to get a good understanding for how people are using the configurator.
I currently work for a manufacturing company. Customers have a few options for ordering, either configured * #;s pre-configured items or standard items. For our company pre-config items and standard items are used for the same purpose. The configured * #'s are not used to build the BOM, but more or less used to enhance proper configuration selections. Essentially, this design is still causing multiple bom's.
Is there a good standard of how configurator should be used in regards to pre-config items vs * # generation?
    Is pre-config a pre-historic way to go?
Do other places who use configurator use the * # generation specifically for building the BOM and help with guided buying/selling?
    OR
Do you create multiple BOM's and use the configurator to get the proper configurations, without contributing to the BOM?
    OR
Do you use a little of both?
Which way has proven to show better cost savings for Engineering and Customer Service combined?
I don't expect there to be any one answer, but I am pulling together some statistics for our own company.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

It can be a discrete item or a pre-configured item. We have both that use this same format. For some of our products the customer sees the * # and for others they don't. We are a dealer based company. Our dealers have standard part numbers in their systems and would prefer ordering by this method. Our dealers are extremely large, order entry in 1 location, billing in another location and the ship to in a different location. They want to order XXX-216 electronically in excel based on catalog #'s (not through configurator) and want to see XXX-216 when they receive in the product. The product # they order has to match the product # on the sales order acknowledgment we send. The only issue is that the products they order are configurable, so instead of using configurator for what it is, we're back to creating standard item numbers. Our dealers drive our business. And we don't do any customizations.
My initial quest in this post was to see what the standard is. Not really to solve a particular issue. I do really appreciate your responses.
    Thanks.

  • Flikering screen windows 8.1 and ESO game

Hi, I have problem with my screen flikering (background rapid flashing like an old neon light). My monitor is a HP w2207. My graphic card is a nvidia GTX 760.
The problem started when I got windows 8.1 and it only does it when I play Elder Scrolls Online (I havent tried any other 3D games), but it surely doesnt do it when I watch a movie, use excel and word or surf the net.
I have checked my cables, both power cord and screenplay, theyre fine. I have checked if they were rightly connected. I have checked for electromagnetism noise. I have changed my resolution, unfortunatly on this model of monitor, you only have 59 and 60hz as option. I have checked the ingame settings. My drivers are all up-to-date. and of course, I have search the net and it seems others have the same problem.
Could it be the bios needed to be upgraded?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello @Kublakan,
I understand that you are experiencing some severe flickering when trying to play (Elder Scrolls Online on your HP w2207 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor. Well according to the QuickSpecs for your monitor it does not have 3D capabilities. I suspect that the reason you are getting this issue is because you are playing a 3D game on a non-3D monitor.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
