Roland Juno-G

Am wanting to purchase the Roland Juno-G (or Juno-D) synth.
Will I be able to record the Juno-G on-board sounds into a Logic track?
Or will I only be able to trigger Logic built-in sounds using it as a midi keyboard?
THX!

Don't buy the JUNO G. There are problems with the Juno G LCD display.
I have two Juno G's and I have LCD display problems with both of them. Here's a link on YouTube that shows the problem.

I am using Logic Pro 9 and can't seem to set up the external midi. I have a Roland Juno G which is working as a midi controller perfectly but I cannot send sound within the keyboard to Logic. I have set up everything on the keyboard side but I'm having difficulty setting it up in Logic. I don't want to just use it as a midi controller as I want to use some of the internal sounds as well. PLEASE HELP........!

  • Roland juno 106 & Logic 8

I can't seem to get my junos sliders to control software synths in logic. The bender wheel is sending cc
data but none of the sliders. When I move a slider I can see logic is receiving the sys ex data but they just won't bind any ideas?

It should theoretically be possible to get instruments to respond to the Juno 106 sysex using controller learn.
I've also been thinking of adding the 106 as a custom input device for LC Xmu, so if you're interested, you could go that route for reasonable Mackie Control emulation for the 106. See www.opuslocus.com/lcxmu/ for more info.
Join the LC Xmu forum and post a request there if you want to get the ball rolling, I have a 106 here so it could probably be done pretty fast.

  • Need help with an advanced MIDI Setup

I have used Logic since v5.5 as a tape machine but haven't dived much in to MIDI. I have recently added the following hardware:
    1) Novation Zero SLMkll control surface; hooked up via USB and seems to be functiong as it should.
    2) M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 hooked up via USB; it i seems controlling virtual instruments as it should as well as the plug-ins I have assigned.
    3) My Roland Juno Di synthesizer is giving me issues. What I play on it triggers its internal sounds as well as the virtual instruments in Logic. What I play on the Keystation also triggers the sounds in the Juno.
I have tried assigning different MIDI channels to the Juno and Keystation but still have the same results. I have set the Juno and Keystation as described in their manuals to no avail.  The Apple Audio/MIDI Setup Utility will not let me change MIDI channels on any of it.
How do I get these things to work independently of eachother?
    Any help would be appreciated!
PS; for my audio I am using an Apogee Ensemble and Duet.

    >is there a way to rest it so i can type in my new password?
Your username and password are stored in your keychain. You can remove the key from the keychain and the next time you connect you'll be asked to authenticate again.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, find the relevant key (sorted by server name) and delete it.
    >i cant place any files ont the server. it says that it is read only. how can i change it to read and write?
If you're usin the Finder as your FTP client, you can't. The Finder only supports read-only FTP. To upload files to a FTP server you need to use some other client.

  • Logic X Out of tune bug

I work with Logic Pro X every day since it has been released and noticed a very strange bug with both audio and software instruments (MIDI):
After saving and reloading a project Logic Pro X randomly plays audio files out of tune. It is not affecting every track, but some. I checked everything: sample rate, interface (Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2). The strange thing is: after stopping playback, starting, stopping again and starting again and opening the track in the sample window, playing it back there and so on.....everything works just fine.
    Today the same with MIDI:
I saved a track some days ago. Today I reopened it. Just piano. Logic Pro X starts to insert false notes and some, not all, notes are out of tune. I checked the arrangement in the piano roll, score and event list. Everything is fine. No controllers, nothing. I even switched to another instrument and internal audio. Same result. I then moved the region to a new track (external MIDI) and played it back over USB and a ROLAND Juno-Di. Perfect. After that I exported the region as a MIDI file and imported it back to the same software instrument track were it was before. Everything works fine.
    That's strange, isn't it?
The last two updates didn't correct this bug - and I really think it is a bug, because it happens to new songs and imported songs (from L9), but never happens in L9.
No third party plug-ins are involved! Just Logic! I checked that before.
I wrote a bug report for Apple and hope they will do something about it.
    Anyone else with this bug?

I just bumped into a similar mistuning (transposition) phenomenon, it is completely baffling. I MIDI recorded a simple chordprogression using an EXS24 piano. It was meant to be and is the first (and only) track with MIDI on it in this project. No hidden tracks, no Melodyne, no MIDI plugins, all Inspector values "virgin", just some MIDI that seems to be weirdly corrupted...?
When I played it back one note totally misbehaved: in a GMaj7 chord, the constituent B note was replaced by a (awfully dissonant) D# note! But the piano roll clearly shows a B note, not a D#. Even when I muted all notes exept the B note, a B note is heard when clicking the note, but when engaging playback, Logic plays a D#!?!?!?
I tried two different EXS piano's and the EP, they all exhibited this weird transposition of one single note.
It was a project started in LP9.
These B notes play a major third higher (D#) when played back. When clicked, they play the correct B note.

  • Edirol UM-1ex interface compatibility

    Hey guys,
Just wondering if any has had issues with the 10.5.2 update being compatible with there USB MIDI interfaces.
I have a Roland Juno-D synth plugged into my iMac via the edirol UM-1ex interface. I had avoided the 10.5.2 update (as i know how many problems its still causing) but unfortunately it was installed the other day. Now my synth is not working with Logic 8/Garageband.
The MIDI Audio device doesn't seem to be working either. When you create a setup and then click 'Test Setup' the cursor should turn into musical notes but it no longer does.
I've been in contact with Pro Apps (who have no clue on what to do) and turned me to forums, i've spoken with Edirol who have subsequently hit the roof that their product is no longer compatible.
Im just hoping that im not the only one experiencing this so i can positively point out that the update has caused this and its not my equipment. If anyone has any info regarding this i would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Have you installed the latest driver?
    Have you restarted the Mac?
Have you shut down, re-connected the UM then re-started the Mac? ( A cold boot will re-set the USB bus).
Do you have any other USB devices connected ( remove them and repeat Shut down + Restart)

  • How to eliminate ground hum?

I have recently tried recoding my Roland Juno synth into Logic but have discovered that there is a ground hum issue.
I have taken the Juno to a synth repairer and they have suggest that I remove the ground earth from the plug to cure the problem!!!
I understand that this is extremely dangerous and am not prepared to carry this out.
Can anyone suggest another way around this issue.
Some of my thoughts so far have been:
    - Can I use a DI box with an earth lift switch?
-Could I record the Juno with ground hum to one audio track, and create another track with just the sound of the ground hum, and then invert the phase of the channel containing the hum?
    - Use Logic's Noise Gate or Strip Silence?
    - Is there a piece of kit I can buy that could remove the hum?
FYI, I am plugging the Juno into the mains outlet at the wall and not through a powerboard.
I look forward to any comments.
    Cheers,
    Mr Rock

I can sympathize. Ground hum can be very frustrating to diagnose and eliminate. The ideas that you have suggested are all worth trying. You can lift the ground from the keyboard with one of those little adapters. You can get them at any hardware store. That can be the quickest, easiest and cheapest fix. Don't alter your keyboard by removing the ground prong from the plug or anything like that. The 3-2 ground lift adapter will do the same thing and it's reversible. If that's what the repair shop was suggesting, I'd find a new repair shop. If that's their idea of a solution, chances are they might have missed something while diagnosing the problem. A power supply problem in the kbd. would be one of the first things to check out.
But, assuming the kbd. is OK, here are some other ideas.
Have you tried a different audio cable to connect the keyboard?
Have you checked the outlet(s)? Maybe you have a problem with your AC wiring that you didn't know about? You can buy a cheap outlet checker at the hardware store. Mine is a little plastic thing, about the size of a ground lift adapter, w/ 3 LEDs that light in different combinations to show wiring irregularities. Is the keyboard plugged into the same AC circuit as the rest of your gear? If not, try that.
You could try the DI ground lift, too.
It could be any piece of connected gear that is interacting w/ the kbd. to cause the buzz. My friend recently spent a few long days chasing down a similar problem only to discover - by accident - that it was his display monitor that was causing the problem. Ideally, you have to isolate the problem. The best way to do that is to completely disconnect (AC & audio cables) everything except the kbd, computer and interface and see of the problem is still there.
Recording the noise separately and inverting the phase of that track should work in theory but I think you would have to record the noise-by-itself track in perfect phase w/ the noise-plus-keys track in order to cancel is completely. In any case, it would be an interesting experiment to try. If you can afford it, Izotope RX is very effective for this type of problem http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/

  • Help with midi/usb interface and Logic 8

    Hi there,
    So here is the 'goal'
I have a SoftStep (MIDI USB interface) running into Logic 8 or Mainstage - my ideal scenario would be to pre-load various loops, clicks and Ambient Pads into Logic - these are usually in MP3 format.
Ideally, I would then be able to assign various buttons on the MIDI footpedal to start, stop and cycle through the various files.
Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about setting this up?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    T

he driver is indeed a universal version.
    Cool.
I doubt it's the MIDI interface simply because when I used it to connect a Roland Juno-D to the computer, it worked perfectly fine.
    Ok, cool. Rules that out
Notes get ''stuck'' on the visual keyboard, some notes are still considered 'pressed' until I press them again. There aren't many but it's worth noting.
Is it always the same notes? For instance, if C3 will never give a note off, it might indicate a problem with the actual keyboard mechanism in the piano.
ANYWAYS, when I've placed a monitor inside the environment at the places you mentioned, I can indeed see those odd low notes.
So it seems like the piano is sending low notes as you play the keyboard...
So I see this is a pretty solid visualize representation of what I thought was wrong. Note the C-2 is lower than I can even reach on my standard sized piano (my lowest note is A-1).
It certainly seems as though the piano is sending spurious MIDI data, as I mentioned, it might be the actual physical keyboard mechanism is mistriggering. From the things you've tried, it certainly sems to be the actual piano that's playing up, and not the MIDI interface or computer.
At this stage, I'd probably try playing around with the piano's MIDI settings, trying a reset procedure if it has one. It might be something as simple as dirt and crud in the keyboard causing mistriggering.
While you could use the environment to filter out those C-2 notes, it's not really going to help if the piano is missing note offs and triggering wrong notes. It might, as you initially suspected, be knackered...

  • Newb: MIDI. Random notes popping up.

    Hello there.
Have a Roland Juno D plugged into Garageband using a MDUSB cable.
Not sure if I'm supposed to set it up in any special way because when I play,
the wrong notes are registered and it's highly inaccurate.
Sometimes two notes will be heard at once, three keys will play the same note
or it will go on and on unless I press 'space'.
Would highly appreciate some guidance with this and it'd be even better if
you underestimate my ability to understand!

I am having the same problem using a Yamaha M1 keyboard. I teach music and I really need a solution fast as school is getting ready to start.

  • Usb midi driver for older Edirol sk-500 keyboard for use in Intel Mac Pro

I have just moved to an Intel Mac Pro from my old G4 Power Mac. I was using a Edirol (Roland ED) SK-500 usb midi controller in both Garageband and Logic. The old driver doesn't want to work in the new Intel machine. Checked Edirol's site and didn't find anything newer to use and nothing that addressed the Intel situation explicitly.
Does anyone have a newer compatible driver or some other solution for this issue?
    Thanks,
    Gord
    Intel Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 Xeon, 2 gig ram, 1.2 terabyte storage Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    intel mac pro 2 x 2.66 xeon, 2 gig ram, 1 terabyte storage   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

SK-500 is a discontinued product and I do not think Edirol will ever release a Universal Binary driver. I'd suggest you sell it, and buy their PCR-M50/80 keyboard (these are awesome) or if you also want sounds, get the Roland Juno-G synth (128 voices polyphony, 1000+ sounds, full-blown synth and 5 effects processors). All these work as USB MIDI controllers with Universal Binary drivers.

  • Audio MIDI setup problems?? --- Pro Tools

I just got my Roland Juno-G back from service so I am going to try this question again. I get no sound when I hit playback on my Pro Tools but I can see the information playing back on the level indicators for the tracks.
    - - I am connecting my imac to my synth with a UM-ONE. I think I have the MIDI studio set up correctly but here is what happens when I do the Test Setup:  When I click on the output arrow UM-ONE icon in the MIDI Studio I get no response from the corresponding UM-ONE icon at the other end of the line.
ALSO, on the computer (10.9.1), in my system preferences>sound>Output, when I clck on Pro Tools Aggregate I/O (Aggregate Device)  -- the message "The selected device has no output controls." appears.
I am missing something???? Anyone that can help or point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

Did you set "Properties For" to the correct output device?

  • Guys - taking Logic pro 7 out live !

Am a lover of Logic Pro 7,
I will be taking it out on the road soon and basically I am looking at new ideas to use it live. I run the backing off iTunes so it really is only running as a sound source.
    CME 76/Yamaha Piano/Roland Juno D/MOTU 828 MKII/Mac Book pro + Logic Pro 7.2
At the moment I just have a simple 16 channel sound pallete, each with a different sound and all on 'rec'. This way I can access all the sounds one by one by selecting a midi channel etc etc.
However I would love to get more adveturous with my live set up
Having split or even zones set up to play sounds on different sections of the piano/synth. Or play two channel strips at once, etc etc
Please let me know of any templates or other ways to create what i want.
    Regards :))

  • MIDI, Juno Alpha 1, transfer SysEx files, old-school meets new-school

Hey everybody, I have a Juno Alpha 1, and I want to be able to dump/load all the patches to/from my computer.
Here's the problem. It doesn't seem to be working. I have done this so far:
    1. In AMS, set the keyboard as Juno Alpha 1 in /Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup
    2. Got the SysEx Librarian app (http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/)
This is where I'm stuck. When I try to bulk dump the keyboard into SysEx Librarian, the keyboard never finishes. It creates a file in SysEx Librarian, but the file is only about 6 bytes, with one line of code (plus checksum):
    00  F0 41 40 00 23 F7                                 | A@ # |
My Juno Alpha 1 is pretty much full of custom patches, so the file should be much bigger. I've tried starting the receive first (at the computer), tried starting the send first (at the keyboard). I also tried slowing down the transfer speed (in SysEx Librarian prefs). So far, I can't seem to get these two programs to talk to each other.
Also, I know the MIDI cables & jacks are working fine, because I was able to dump/load from another Juno (Alpha 2). When the transfer finishes, the keyboards give a confirmation -- as they should when dumping/loading from a computer.
I'm using a MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard, Digidesign MBox 2 Pro, Juno Alpha 1, SysEx Librarian v 1.2.2.
    Please help! Anyone?

    (THANKS in advance)

Might be best to goto the Roland site and ask them.
I use a M-Audio Axiom and have good luck with their site.
