Roland OCTAPAD with GB

I am trying to use my Roland OCTAPAD with GB and I have some questions:
It is only letting me use the pad as a MIDI controller for the GB drum kids, not for any keyboards or other sounds. Is it possible to use the OCTAPAD for any other GB sounds?
The OCTAPAD comes with a good selection of internal kits, which are great for live looping. How can I record these sounds in GB? For instance, while creating a beat with the OCTAPAD, is it possible to record that beat live into GB? Or will GB only accept it as a MIDI controller for the GB kits?
Does Logic provide tools for MIDI controllers such as the OCTAPAD, as opposed to a keyboard controller? For example, I saw on the Logic page of apple.com that you can assign specific sounds to specific keys of a keyboard MIDI controller. Is this true for the OCTAPAD as well?

Roland Octapad and Garageband

I'm having an issue with my audio interface and v-drums set up.
I have a Roland Octapad, with a line out to an M-Audio Mobile Pre interface. Garageband recognizes the interface, but I can't hear any sounds. I'm not trying to use the Octapad as a MIDI trigger (this works fine). I want to play the on-board sounds on the Octapad and record that output in Garageband.
The track shows activity, and also shows something recorded, but no sounds play while drumming or when playing back the recording.

GB doesn't come with a sound module type instrument with loads of sounds in it. Even if you have a third party one (such as Hypersonic which I use) I'm not sure there is any way to make it play back more than one patch per channel/ instance. This is possible in Logic with the right routing, but not in GB as far as I know.
Would it be easy to isolate the midi for each patch and send each part separately? If so it would be relatively straightforward to find an appropriate instrument for each patch, once you had the midi on your machine.

Set-up Roland Octapad 2 with Logic Express 8

Is anyone familiar with how to set up the Roland Octapad 2 Pad-80 with Logic Express 8. I want to use it as a midi controller for some drum samples I have (not general midi drums). But like Addictive Drums or BFD Lite. I have it connected with an edirol e-mux 1x1 interface. But when I hit the pads there is no response. I have it set up in the Audio Midi set up. Are there settings within the Octapad I need to change? I've spent two hours trying to get it to respond and it's becoming a pain in the arse.

Logic has a built-in midi monitor in the transport bar. When you hit the pads, are you seeing notes listed there?
The Octapad's model was "pad-80", and there's a manual available on the web - http://www.scribd.com/doc/8356768/ Roland-Octapad-II-PAD80OM. If you're seeing midi notes show up and can't change the settings in Addictive Drums to match them, you're going to have to change the notes on the pad -- which will probably be more difficult than doing it in the software.

Syncing roland 303 with Logic Audio 6.1

I am trying to sync my roland tb303 with Logic 6.1 in OS9. I have turned on the midi clock under song settings/midi and am using a midi/sync converter between my mt4 midi box & 303 but the 303 does not run. Any suggestions ??

OK. The sync output dialog is under file/song settings/synchronization. Select the MIDI tab (looks like a file folder, NOT the little icon at the top)Then you can check the "transmit MIDI clock destination 1" box. Usually you can get away with selecting "All" on the pull down menu and not worrying about which port goes where, but some older MIDI gear freaks out if it sees MIDI clock. If you have to just select the proper port from the list. If you have the MIDI out from the computer to the MIDI in on your sync box you should be good to go!

I'm frustrated! :-( Connecting a Roland piano to my MacBook Pro via Firebox

I need some help as I am having someone come to record a song for me tomorrow on my Roland.
I have a Roland piano with an audio out 1/4 inch cable. I have connected it to my Presonus Firebox in Line In port 3. I have connected the firewire cable. I believe I have everything set up correctly.
In garageband, I don't know how to select the right instrument. Is it 'software' or 'real'? If it is software, how do I tell the mac to record from the firebox? There is no selection.

The "real instrument" is the audio recording of the output of the Roland. The "software instrument" is the recording of the performance but not the audio: the Roland's physical keyboard plays a (software) sound in Garageband itself via MIDI. Recording the Roland as a software instrument gives you the flexibility to change sounds after the performance, as well as edit it more easily than a real instrument recording.
Given that the Roland is a synthesizer and not an acoustic instrument, you could record it as either a real or software instrument. So why not do both?
Record the output of the Roland as a real instrument, but also record your performance as a software instrument so you can play around with internal sounds in GB and easily edit. Best of both worlds!

Multi-select and change only certain words in a text box to different font - possible?

In Word I can select a number of words in a sentence or paragraph by holding the Shift key (PC, natch!) and then bold all of them at the same time, etc. Can't make this happen in inDesign - am I missing something simple?
Need to take a list like the one below and bold only the dates, using the bold version of the font I'm using - thereby actually changing fonts.

July 24 Something else entirely

However, I advise you to take a look at HighlightGrep, [JS] written by Roland Dreger, with an amazing "Live Mode" option that allows you to see the result of a research (before launching it, of course) while you're building your query … simulating your "selection".
… and, as john said, may be finish the deal with nested styles !

Clicks in Voice recordings - is this a Sound Interface Problem?

In every 2nd or 3rd Voice Recording i have a click Sound in it. A Little Noise like antistatic Sound of a Vinyl Player.
I have a soundinterface USB cakewalk or Roland ua25ex with 48v Power on a ntg2 rode mic.
Is this a latency Problem?
What can i do?

Yes 48khz like my videofiles in 16bit, the same adjustments in my audiointerface.
I find a "Ground/lift" function at the backside of the audiointerface.

Jv1010 rhythm sets

I am using this roland module with Logic Express and have downloaded the environment from the multisets file.
I am OK using the main instruments but when creating a channel 10 track for drums, it appears I can only access one drum patch and cannot seem to get into the others. I try amending the progam bank and patch numbers in the usual way, but the set appears to be the same.
The manaul section on this says;
"When changing a rhythm set, set the transmit channel of the external MIDI
device and the receive channel of part 10 of the performance on the JV-1010
to the same channel, then transmit the Bank Select and Program Change
messages.
1 Press the VALUE knob and choose the Performance mode
(PERFORM) or the Rhythm Set mode (RHYTHM).
Pressing the VALUE knob makes the mode change sequentially. Press the
knob several times until the PERFORM or RHYTHM indicator lights up.
2 Set the transmit channel on the external MIDI device to 10.
For information on how to make the settings, refer to the owner’s manual
for the MIDI keyboard (the transmitting instrument).
3 Transmit a Bank Select MSB (Controller Number 0) value
(refer to the following table) from the external MIDI device to
the JV-1010.
4 Transmit a Bank Select LSB (Controller Number 32) value
(refer to the following table) from the external MIDI device to
the JV-1010"
5 Transmit a Program Change message from the external MIDI

Now, I have inserted one external instrument track, and set it to channel 10. When I play the keyboard, I get this one set of drums. When I amend the bank and program numbers on the left hand side, I still only get this one set.
The next section gives the MSB and LSB values in a table. For exampl, it says to access the 8 session drum kits, transmit MSB 24 and LSB 0, and then a program change message with a program value of 1-8.
I cannot find anyway to do this. When I go into the Lists menu at the right hand side, and try and insert a program change, it doesn't seem to refer anywhere to MSB and LSB values?
Can anyone please assist? Has anyone used te JV1010 on Logic, and used the downloaded multiset file in the file "Various Multisets 5" and found out how to access the several drumkits?

Sorry for the delay, just returned from vacation. Where to start...
I inserted repeat signs, that made good sense, thanks. However, when I deleted the unnecessary sections (the MIDI sections that were now represented by the repeats) all of the chord analyzation from the global chord track remained, and the only way i could delete these unnecessary analyzed chords was one at a time clicking and deleting. Is there a way to highlight or group select analyzed chords past a specified point?
Also, after i cut out the unnecessary repeated information, i then needed to drag and drop the bridge from the end of the chart directly behind the remaining MIDI information. Every time i do this the regions I drag transpose...even after I've manually deleted all the old leftover chord analyzations from above.
Also, i decided just to start this chart over seeing that I cannot find an easy way to edit the global chord track. Instead of playing repeated sections through, i tried just playing the original material, in this case 4 measures, and making sure the analyzation was as simple as possible, then command clicking to copy and paste those four measures to fill out the section i want to repeat. When I do, the part transposes to the last root note that was played. I can command C / V this section in the piano roll, but is there a prefference to set so that in the arrange I can command click drag and drop midi sections so they don't transpose?

Remove sustain from Suitcase Piano notes Logic X

Hi There,
I recorded a friend using a Roland Keyboard with a sustain pedal, via usb, triggering midi, in Logic X.
Now I'm home mixing and the sustain is spilling into other regions on the track making all the midi note info sustain.
I can't find this controller info to turn it off. Can anyone tell me where to find these values so I can take them off?

I just bumped into a similar mistuning (transposition) phenomenon, it is completely baffling. I MIDI recorded a simple chordprogression using an EXS24 piano. It was meant to be and is the first (and only) track with MIDI on it in this project. No hidden tracks, no Melodyne, no MIDI plugins, all Inspector values "virgin", just some MIDI that seems to be weirdly corrupted...?
When I played it back one note totally misbehaved: in a GMaj7 chord, the constituent B note was replaced by a (awfully dissonant) D# note! But the piano roll clearly shows a B note, not a D#. Even when I muted all notes exept the B note, a B note is heard when clicking the note, but when engaging playback, Logic plays a D#!?!?!?
I tried two different EXS piano's and the EP, they all exhibited this weird transposition of one single note.
It was a project started in LP9.
These B notes play a major third higher (D#) when played back. When clicked, they play the correct B note.

Note length input to short with octapad??

I am trying to trigger/record percussion parts into logic 9.1.3 via a spd-30 octapad. When I open the piano roll after the take the note lengths are so short it can't trigger the soft synth on playback. (I have been trying to trigger stormdrum 2 through the play 2 engine and virtual drumline through kontakt 4). I have increased the gate time on the octapad to 1 second for input, but no change on logic. Does anyone know how to change the input note length on logic as I am recording? Is there an input filter for this? (I can't find it.) Any help is appreciated. thanks.

it must be something in the octapad because I can't even get the octapad to trigger the soft synth when I am not recording. I tried the low latency setting and no change. I added the roland driver for the mac and no change. I did try it with ultrabeat and it worked so mabye something in the plug in setup sending notes through. I can change the length after the fact but that is very efficent when I am trying to play against another track...;0

I am trying to sync my mac to my Roland vs2480 and need to know how to make it work. I have a video I am trying to score and it has a smpte time code. How do you get that time code to the smpte "in" on the vs2480? I tried using an audio out signal from the video and sent it to the smpte in jack via rca cables but, it doesn't seem to recognize any signal. any insignt would be greatly appreciated.

Trouble Syncing Roland TR-606 with Logic Pro

Hello.
I had this working before and I dont know what went wrong.
The setup is like this Logic sending MIDI Clock > Midisport Interface > Kenton Pro Solo (set to send Sync24 out of the 'Through' port > Roland 606's MIDI sync input.
When I start and stop from Logic the 606 starts and stops accordingly. Also, when I change the tempo from within Logic the tempo on the 606 also changes HOWEVER the speed that the 606 is running at is always faster than the metronome in logic - It doesn't sync. Is this a problem with the 606?
What am I doing wrong. Would be very grateful for any advice.

More info: From the Logic 'MIDI Sync preferences' I have set it to send MIDI Clock and from the 'MIDI Sync project settings' I am sending it to the correct port on my interface. The MIDI clock is received by the Roland however fails to sync with it properly..

Do I need an audio interface between my roland keyboard, garage band/MAC and Alesis 8.0multitrack mixer, or should I go direct into the USB of the Alesis with my keyboard into the mixer?

Do I need an audio interface between my roland keyboard and alesis 8.0 multitrack mixer when interfacing with Garage Band? Or can I just go direct USB MAC into the Alesis Mixer with keyboard directly into the Mixer? ie, is the interface overkill?

First of all the Alesis 8.0 is a usb audio interface so you already have a interface. Next you could go from the Roland into the Alesis into the Mac. You could also go from the Roland headphone or line out into the Mac Pro audio input. And depending on what Roland keyboard you have, you may be able to use Midi (usb) and use the Macs Midi voices.
