Role of Apps DBA in Implementing New Module

Hi Friends,
Supposing a company has a running smooth production system of EBS 11i. With modules
FINANCIALS(GL,AR,AP,FA,CM) in it. Then the Company want to add another module HR system. Is an Apps DBA needed in the scenario? or only the SysAdmin and Functional
Consultant only.
What is the role of an AppsDBA in implementing a new module?
Thank a lot

It is the responsibility of both the System Administrator and the Apps DBA. If you need to change the status of HR module to fully installed, then you need to change the status from shared to fully installed (in case it is shared). You will also need to run DataInstall and apply hrglobal.drv driver using adpatch.

  • What is Apps DBA and  Core DBA?

    Dear Friends,
I often come across the terms 'Apps DBA'. I have been trying to get it clarified from many, but I am not convinced. I want to know what is the role of Apps DBA?
What are the duties performed by Apps DBA? How is it different from core DBA?
I request you to explain on the above subject.
    Thanks and regards
    Bharath Kumar V

    Hi Bharath,
I want to know what is the role of Apps DBA?That's a common question! An Oracle Applications DBA is very different from a regular Oracle database administrator and requires specialized skills in business administration and Oracle application server architectures. The Oracle Applications DBA job role is less compartmentalized than a traditional Oracle DBA and the Oracle Applications DBA must also have skills in these areas:
    - Database Design - Many shops require customized functional extensions and reporting data marts and the Oracle Applications DBA must have outstanding Database design skills.
    - Oracle Application Server - The Oracle Applications DBA must understand the internals of the Oracle concurrent manager and understand how to monitor and tune Oracle Applications.
    - Functional Expertise - Many shops requires a business degree and a general understanding of the Oracle Applications module. For example, accountants are widely used to support Oracle eBusiness Suite (Oracle Financials), and accountants with an IT background are easily trained in Oracle Applications DBA support.
I have my full notes here, on theb Apps DBA job roles:

    Hope this helps. . .

  • Why they asking specific module by Apps DBA.

The Oracle Apps DBA, some requirement with Apps HR DBA, some Apps Financials/HR DBA, some Apps Retail DBA.
What is the deference between these responsibilities?
My understanding is Oracle Apps DBA will take care of entire modules exist in the EBS, then why they asking specific module by Apps DBA.
The module wise effected only Functional Consultant, or Technology Consultant, is it true?
I am looking for your feedback.

The Oracle Apps DBA, some requirement with Apps HR DBA, some Apps Financials/HR DBA, some Apps Retail DBA.
What is the deference between these responsibilities? From a technical perspective, the Apps DBA should be aware of all the modules tasks (patching, troubleshooting, maintaining, ..etc). From the functional perspective, I believe you are aware of the difference (actually big difference and the Apps DBA does not have to be aware of all of it).
My understanding is Oracle Apps DBA will take care of entire modules exist in the EBS, then why they asking specific module by Apps DBA. Some companies prefer that the Apps DBA has previous experience with this specific application/module (for example, for HR you should be familiar with DataInstall, applying hrglobal.drv patch, ..etc).
The module wise effected only Functional Consultant, or Technology Consultant, is it true?Correct.
    Thanks,

  • Impact on PM,MM,IM & WM modules while  implementing New GL

    Hello All,
To implement New GL, we are creating new company codes and migrating the data from the old company code to the new company code. In this process will there be any impact on the existing processes or created and open documents in Plant maintenance, Investment management, and ware house mangement? Which areas in these modules will be affected by the migration of data from old company code to new company code? We would be migrating config, master and transactional data.
    Please advise..
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Karthik,
I have already gone thru OSS notes 1014364, 1039752, 1070629 and many more...
My specific question is, what are the impacts of New GL migration on other SAP module (HR, SD, MM, CRM, and Treasury). I am well aware of impact/changes within FICO.
    Thanks,
    Surendra
Can anyone tell with their experience if any of the above listed modules have any specific impact/change when we migrate to New GL from Classic GL?

Though I am no expert in IFRS, the following MM-FI interfaces may be considered in light of the IFRS changes
    - Material valuation: In general Moving average prices (price control V) are used for purchased items, and standard price (S) for produced items. Inventory valuation is generally not done using LIFO or FIFO.
    - Expense accounts: Check if the expense accounts determined via OBYC are the same
    - COGS: Check if the nature of the COGS account is the same
    - Material revaluation: IFRS mentions that revaluations should be kept sufficiently up to date (a manual process in MM)
By and large, my opinion is that there arent many changes with respect to SAP MM.

  • APPS DBA

    hi everybody
    i am a student
i came to know about oracle ERP during my internship and from then on i got interested in this field.
    hsawwan,
u have always been a source of inspiration for me and it was because of you that
i chose this ORACLE as my career.
i still remember that during my internship i had a problem in my apps software and
u helped me regardless of my knowledge and it took you almost an hour in explaining to me
"how to log in using sqlplus"
and in later time when i came to know about how senior u were
it made u look more great in my eyes.
what you are doing is really a great great great job :).
after my internship during this one year i have completed my OCA,OCP exams
and now i am about to graduate in two months and i am ready to learn new things.
reason i have set this topic is because i am a little bit confused over something
hope you guys can help me
i want to become ORACLE APPS DBA
now in lot of job postings i have seen that RAC certification is also required.
    my question is ;
should i go for RAC certification 1st and then APPS ???
    OR
should i go for apps certification 1st ???
what is the importance of RAC certification in dba world ???
for apps certification would it be better if i include this RAC certification in my profile ???
    regards !

    Hi,
Thanks for the words of appreciation. I am glad to know that I have been of real help.
now in lot of job postings i have seen that RAC certification is also required.Very true :)
    my question is ;
should i go for RAC certification 1st and then APPS ???
    OR
should i go for apps certification 1st ???If you are planning to find an Apps DBA job, then I would suggest you go with Apps first, then do the RAC study/certification later. You should be able to manage to find an Apps DBA job where RAC is not really required (RAC is a plus).
what is the importance of RAC certification in dba world ???Most of the big companies have RAC implemented, so if your dream is to work for such employers, you will have to focus on the RAC track and do the certification (at least know the concept and get familiar with it).
for apps certification would it be better if i include this RAC certification in my profile ???RAC certification has nothing to do with Apps certification, and you can get the Apps certification without having any knowledge about RAC. However, writing the RAC exam and getting the certification would give the impression that you are familiar with the RAC topic (or I would say Expert as the certification title says). For now, I would suggest you go with Apps certification first, and try to find an Apps DBA job, and later on you can study the RAC topic and appear for the exam. If you are looking for RAC material, please let us know.
    Good luck!

    Hussein

Which career is most rewarding one in terms of Salary, Job Security and Least amount of workThat's entirely up to you. No one but you knows what you consider important, what you find interesting, what you find satisfying.

AsifMy original comment aside, I find these comments from you rather, uh, "enlightening".
"Which career is most rewarding one in terms of . . . Least amount of work"
"which career will be . . . easy to learn"
Since "easy" and "least work" seem important to you, I'd suggest a career in something besides IT. I could make some specific suggestions but run the risk of insulting people who work in those areas.

  • Want to add new module in the existing Landscape

    Hi Friends,
We have ECC 6.0 running with HCM and Finance, and this is for Phase I and it rolled out successfully last June, now we are going to add Merchandising for Phase II in the existing landscape.
My question is we have in our DEV Systems we have Client 100,200,300 and 500. and in Quality the same and one client in Production.,
Since we are going to add Merchandising in Phase II do we use the same existing clients in dev and qa or we need to have a seperate client in dev and qa,
But end of the day we will have only one client in Prod.
Please let me know we need to use different client or existing clients for realization.
    Thanks in advance
    Sathish

    Hi,
I observe 4 clients in development, possibly my guess would be playpen, golden client, development and unit testing.
For a new implementation I would preferably use another client for the project or use the existing clients based on impact to production support to current landscape.
The clients in QA can be kept same to understand how the new changes integrate with the current landscape and if changes impact the current environment. This would ensure that any problems are fixed before transports are moved to production.
I have assumed a 3 system landscape but there are many possibilities where you can have a separate project landscape for this new module implementation to ensure no impact to production support team.
If your project can afford new servers then suggest buying two servers one with a copy of your development and another with a copy of production(project test system). This was you would start with all new developments happening in current landscape and also would be tested with a current copy of production data.
    Cheers Sam

  • Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA

    Hi All....
can anyone explain me the *"Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA"*
Can Oracle 11i Apps DBA work in a Oracle Application server 10g DBA environment.
    Regards,

Oracle Apps is a suite of financial applications.
Oracle Application server is Oracle's scaled up implementation of Apache or Weblogic or similar products.
While Oracle Apps might use Oracle Application Server as middleware, Oracle Apps is much, much more than Oracle Application Server.
An Oracle Apps DBA is primarily busy on the functional side, and with implementing an ongoing stream of patches ;)
The two functions have almost nothing in common.
