Roles and Soundtrack Pro

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I was hoping that the Roles facility in FCPx would enable a kind of round tripping to soundtrack pro, but so far Ive not been able to achieve getting any audio into STP. Under the import menu in Soundtrack it asks for AAF files, but FCPx does not appear to be able to export them in that format. What am I doing wrong?
Assuming I can get the audio into STP, how would I then export back into FCPx? All seams very unclear! Thanks in advance.
Andy

There is no round tripping to STP. You can get to ProTools with Automatic Duck. But no way to STP short of exporting stems.

  • Logic Pro 9 Compressor and Soundtrack Pro

    Hi,
I have recently installed Mackeeper in my iMac. After everything I opened Logic Pro and it couldn't open. So I thought it could be an issue from Mackeeper, I requested a help from them and they asked me to send my report and I sent to them. Later on I was recommended to uninstall the logic pro, so when I reinstalled the logic pro the following components Compressor and Soundtrack Pro were deselected, it was in gray and I couldn't find out how to install it. The other issue is that the installation was successfully completed without installing the Logic Studio Audio Contents 1,2,3 and Demo Content was also not  installed
Is there anything wrong I did?
    Help Please!
    Many thanks in advance

Interesting; and who would have thought ! What does Logic and FCP have to do with each other being installed. I have FCP running (w./ all) and Logic Pro 9 and perhaps your Logic Studio 2 is not the same. I have no idea.
I'm hoping that I can export the LPro files into FCP ez along with exporting them to WAV or formats that a PC can use; if anyone has heard of problems with that. ?

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD and Soundtrack Pro 1.0.2 and new Intel iMac

I have the both FCP and Soundtrack Pro versions listed above. I'm thinking about picking up a new Intel iMac. Will I have to pay $199 or $99 to upgrade to FCP Studio. I just purchased Soundtrack Pro recently, if I could upgrade for just $99 and get Shake and iDVD that would be a deal...probably still a deal for $199.
I also use CS2, seems Adobe is a little confusing to me. Will I have to pay to get CS2 native for the Intel iMac? Any idea on cost and timeliness.
Separately, how will FCP run on a 20" Intel iMac once upgraded to Universal version, which I'll have to do, since it won't run under Rosetta? I currently only do Mini DV but should I plan on getting the extra video memory now, planning on eventually going into the HD video realm?
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments...thinking about getting the Intel iMac via CompUSA with their interest free deals tomorrow.

well, same situation here, I was about to order a Macbook Pro but then decided to saty with our beloved G platform. the reason is that it will take some time for our Pro Apps to become fully /natively compatible with Intel and I just can't wait that much.
    as for your question about using an iMac with FCP, the answer would be a;
"Yes" if you're going to work with DV only footage (using an external HD for your captured media is a must). and a
"No" if you plan to work with HD material in the future. there you've got no choice but a PowerMac G5 with a fast Graphic Card and a special SD/HD card or box to capture the footage.
résumé: if you're a serious FCP user, go for something expandible, go for a Powermac.

  • Why Do The Latest Versions Of Soundtrack and Soundtrack Pro Use .caf Files?

About 3 years ago Soundtrack and Soundtrack Pro started using .caf files instead of .aif ones.
The .caf files appear to take up more space than .aif and of course need rendering before they can be used in FCE/FCP.
So what is the logic behind their use?
I would add that I have skimmed through several articles which claim they have advantages ..... which I can't understand.
I only know that when used normally in FCE/FCP they seem to me a backward step, requiring rendering - almost like using .mp3 but without the space-saving features.

    Here's a link from Apple:
    http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTATION/MusicAudio/Reference/CAFSpec/CAFoverview/CAFoverview.html
It touts "unrestricted file size" as one advantage of CAFs. Has any of us ever exceeded the supposed 4GB limit of AIF files?? This is from the page linked above:
"Whereas AIFF, AIFF-C, and WAV files are limited in size to 4 gigabytes, which might represent as little as 15 minutes of audio, CAF files use 64-bit file offsets, eliminating practical limits. A standard CAF file can hold audio data with a playback duration of hundreds of years."

  • FCP and Soundtrack Pro music licensing and music cue sheet procedures

Okay, so we made the movie, and we marketed it and it has been sold in several geographic territories. Now I have to make up a music cue sheet. What do I put on the cue sheet for Apple Loops and FCP and Soundtrack Pro files that I have used for music? I believe they are royalty free, which is great. But I'm supposed to identify the music cues with writer, publisher, and society (ASCAP, BMI, etc.) What does an entry for those resources look like? It's really hard to find this info in the documentation for FCP and SP. Thanks.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Interesting question - We don't use attorneys - too expensive, and we never listen to 'em anyway, so the info didn't come from a lawyer, ha ha. But I've seen several examples of music cue sheets, and they all contain the same information, including composer, publisher, society, timing, etc. (After all, that's the purpose of the cue sheet - to see that the artists and producers get paid for their work). You can find one format at:
    www.ascap.com/musicbiz/cuesheetcorner/pdf/SampleCue
Of course, if the example comes from ASCAP (as that one does) or another society (BMI, others), they are working to make their job easier, but they are the societies - they are the ones who can object if they don't like it. And they have substantial power to penalize a producer for not doing what they want. But here's the thing: there's huge tradition in Hollywood, and the rule is (and the contracts say) that if you don't provide everything on the distributor's list of deliverables, they hold your money until you do - and one of the things on the list of deliverables is a music cue sheet, and every example I've ever seen (and I've seen at least 20) asks for the same information. So that's the answer as to "who told you that?" Is is possible that I'm being led down the garden path by ASCAP and the movie industry in general? Sure, but every source I consult agrees that this is the reality. I wish I could avoid it, but as I understand the situation, I have to do it, and it has to contain the info, or we'll never see our dough, ha ha. But my question remains the same - how do I get that info for the "royalty-free" music library attached to FCP?

  • Workflow between fcp and soundtrack pro

i am working on getting the workflow between final cut pro and soundtrack pro right for several weeks now, and i have to say, i expected more.
not that all the special gadgets aren't there, they are just not working the way they describe them in their manual or other sources.
am i the only who has made such experiences working with these tools?
for example: if i want to send a single clip from my timeline to soundtrack, there should be the possibility to have in and out points, so that final cut doesn't send the whole clip (even the parts i don't use ) to soundtrack. cool feature if it would work! no matter what you do it always sends the whole clip to soundtrack and therefore saves the whole file with all the changes and effects. and we don't talk about 8 or 9 MB here. a single clip of 1 minute, altered with EQ, takes up to 80 MB to save!!
another problem from my point of view is the exchange of whole sequences. the whole thing heavily depends on the use of markers, because without them someone working with soundtrack doesn't even see were the cuts are, which makes it nearly impossible to synchronise sounds. markers have to be placed at every single cut.
i could go in like this, but first i would like to know if i mist some fundamental thing about the use of these two pieces of software.

It depends on how you are working. If you've sent over something as a Multitrack project then you have to export the mix and edit it back in as it doesn't update in the same way. A STP audio file shoul update upon saving.

  • Compressor and Soundtrack Pro not installing even if Final Cut isn't there

    Hello,
I have a problem installing Compressor and Soundtrack Pro that I don't know how to solve.
The "read me" note of the software says, "Warning: Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Problem is, I've never had Final Cut Studio installed and the installer still deselects Compressor and Soundtrack Pro, and I cannot find a way to install them.
I'm using a new MacBook Pro and everything is up to date on it. I haven't installed much of anything else on this machine either.
    Can anyone help?

  • Final Cut Pro - Motion and Soundtrack Pro

Hi there people, I have some serious issues, I am using Final Cut Pro, which works fine but I did some updates from apple and now Motion and Soundtrack Pro don't work, I try opening the applications and It pops up with asking me to enter to serial number but when I enter the serials it states it's invalid!
I tried going in to the MacHD then getting rid of the ID for Final Cut Pro but it does not seem to work.
Firstly is anyone having these issues and secondly does anyone have a fix, I called Apple and they had no answers!
    Please help!
    GloriousGoat!

I'll bet you installed prokit6-- that seems to be a big no no with some machines-os combinations. Search the forum for fixes/downgrades.
In the future, try not to be a bleeding edge first user of updates. Wait a while and see what sort of issues arise.

  • What's wrong with Logic and Soundtrack Pro

Just spent a frustrating day trying to record with Soundtrack Pro and Logic
Soundtrack is working on and off
    Problems:
    1. Even if sounds are loaded in the multitrack editor, no sound when playing. Only the Solo (S) button make a track sound. No idea what's wrong?
    2. Trying to record directly into a multitrack sometimes works, and sometimes not.
    3. When making another attempt to record, the noise of death appeared (same as the long thread on Logic.
Finally I just recorded in Amadeus Pro. At least that software works. It just crazy. Look I accept there is a learning curve but this s just crazy
Apple is becoming an arrogant company that is becoming more interested in creating gadgets that providing tools that work
    Sorry for the rant

That said, Logic is the most used software in project studios. Mixing engineers like ProTools better. But the two have way more market share than anything else.
    Hey Ben,
Sorry to bump your fanboy applecart... (don't mean that as derogatory as it may sound, I liked the play on words)
From everything that's happening here and the west coast (USA) many of the Logic users I know have switched to other software, the two Logic studios here have gone to ProTools mainly because Logic version 8 was so unstable, there are no more Logic studios here. The studio with the most business uses a Radar system, the second busiest studio is running Sonar. There is a fellow with a mobile system using a MBP and Logic but he uses version 7.
The University here took bids 3 years ago and opted for PC/Nuendo/RME setups.
So yes, Logic may indeed have the most project studio percentage but since every jerk can download it for free what is the quality coming out of these project studios? My point is, for professionals, Logic is becoming less and less of an option, most everyone that used it professionally has been disappointed in Apples support of the product, a long time between upgrades and except for user boards like this... literally zero professional support. You know there's problems when you call up Apple and know far more about Logic than the support staff. It seems like both of those are starting to improve but I think it's a little too late. Also... there's still the "blast of white noise" problem that hasn't been addressed, no professional studio can take that kind of chance.
Apple is using Logic to sell hardware, smart business, absolutely. However, cutting the price in half, removing the copy protection and throwing in the kitchen sink plus seemingly not giving a d@mn that the program is pirated leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

  • Logic pro and soundtrack pro round trip not working right?

Hi I am using soundtrack pro as a round trip from logic pro do reduces some background noise in some audio files. This was working great. Now I know with the noise reduction I just have to save the file and it updates in logic. But sometimes I was putting compression on the audio file after the noise reduction as well in soundtrack pro, I then I hit render to selection as the compression was a real time effect. After that I hit save and closed and it updated in logic. This all worked fine until today. Now just doing the noise reduction and saving all works fine. But if I put any real time effects on and do the render to selection, sound track pro just closes itself straight after it has done the render to selection and therefore I lose my work I have done on it and it doesnt update the logic project as it was saved.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks!

Just checked it out thanks, but this wont help me on this one. Where I may have put real time effects on like eq or compression I then need to render to action, after that I could flatten audio. But what is happening is that when I have put real time effects on then go to render to action (so them effects now become part of the action list) once its done the render to action it just shuts it self straight away, before I even get a chance to save it. But thanks for the guess, actually showed me something I didn't know anyway, so learnt something!! Thanks.
Thinking I might try uninstalling and installing again see if that solves it?

  • Final Cut and Soundtrack Pro

Just recently upgraded to Lion and having issues now with FCP and now Soundtrack Pro. I never had any problems until the upgrade, also noticed that my Quicktime Pro is gone, which I used all the time for making flv files for my website for all those in the world who insist on not loading QT on their machines. I am having to use QT 7.6.6 to do that and my flash files are doing strange things.
    http://homepage.mac.com/ote_productions/Malcom.html
Yes, it's supposed to flash like that because I degraded the footage, but not that bad. It has never done anything like that before.
Another problem I'm having is I have a Macbook Pro hooked up to an old 20" Apple Cinema Display DVI late 2005, I never had issues with it, but now when I got to full screen on my FCP it is making strange lines in the footage as it play back. Never did this before, when I display on the 15" laptop monitor, no issues.
Soundtrack Pro crashed on me 3 times this morning, never does that.
Anyone else having any problems? I'm afraid to upgrade to the new FCP because of what I"m reading online about it. I think Apple needs to release a fix for this or are they trying to force us to use the new version and not worried about the old version? I am a professional who using these apps daily to do my job and it is causing me time that I am losing money on.
Please fix Apple we depend on these apps to work. Wish I had not upgraded to Lion now!

Why are you being forced to use the new version of anything... including the operating system?
If you are a professional then you always stick with what works and/or use what it takes to get the job done.
STP is not supported under Lion, it's been discontinued, EOL.
I worry about you Mac folks.... the days of auto-upgrading to the latest and "greatest" are over, "It Just Works" only pertains to iMovie, Garageband and apps included with the OS.
Apple is a hardware company, their software is designed to sell hardware, Lion requires more memory and processing power as does FCPX.

  • DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack Pro always ask for Serial

I use FCP X and sometimes Logic Pro X but the latter doesn't have nearly the capabilities for dialog editing that Soundtrack Pro did. Now that I'm on Yosemite (have no idea is that the problem) I can only open Soundtrack Pro or DVD Studio Pro by re-entering the serial number. I've seen this before with OS updates, but now it asks for me to re-enter serial every time I try to open them. Even if they were open a few minutes ago and I haven't restarted. Any ideas?

  • FCP and soundtrack pro roundtrip problem?

Hello I am working on a video in the latest Final Cut Pro and software. I need to take out the hum of the audio, but when I send the audio file to Soundtrack Pro and take out the hum and then save it, the audio goes offline when I go back to FCP and it says something like the attributes no longer match or something. What am I doing wrong? Is there specific ways I need to do this? When you send to soundtrack pro it asks if you want to send only referenced media. I tried both way but no go.
    Any ideas?

  • Having trouble "roundtripping" between FCP 6 and Soundtrack Pro 2

I've been a FCP user since it first came out, and believe it or not, this is my first attempt at roundtripping with Soundtrack Pro.  Basically the process goes pretty good until it's time to go back to FCP.
Here's my workflow:  In FCP I highlight the audio clip in the timeline.  I select Send To > Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project.  It creates a (sent) file, which I save (Save project with latest clip metadata is selected).  Once the clip opens in Soundtrack Pro, I make the adjustments I need to make (in this case, I'm getting rid of some background noise), then I save (Include Source Audio is selected).
Here's where the problem comes in.  When I go back to FCP, I get the "Some files went offline" warning.  When I try to reconnect, I get the following warning:
    "File Attribute Mismatch
Some attributes of one or more of the files you have chosen do not match the attributes of the original.  This may cause problems within the sequences that are dependent on them.  The attributes that differed are as follows:
    - Media Start and End
Would you like to try to connect them again?"
When I go to the folder where the modified (sent).stap is saved, it opens and plays back fine.  However, it looks like Soundtrack Pro is saving the full clip (from the original footage), not just the selection from my timeline.  I'm assuming this is why I'm getting the "File Mismatch" error (basically it's too long).
Is there a step I'm missing?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First thing to try is resetting your fcp preferences
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491
It's also possible your sequence has gotten corrupted.  Try editing a short clip into a new sequence and see if that works.
And what are your sequence settings?
Also, although its a long shot, make sure the frame rate of your easy setup matches the frame rate of your sequence.

  • Using Logic and Soundtrack pro

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to open a sound file from the arange window in soundtrack pro, the file opens great in soundtrack pro, I was only wondering something when i apply changes to the file in soundtrack pro and go back to logic arrange the file is still the same and cannot preview the new file done in soundtarck pro. Do i need to save the file first and then reopen it in logic from the bin? Or is there something I am missing when I edit an aiff in sound track pro.
    Thank you again for input.

    Hi,
to answer the original poster's question:
when you are done applying changes effects etc. in Soundtrack, you need to "flatten" the file - it's down there next to where you see the list of all "actions", it says flatten all actions (or something like that), then hit save in STP.
Now when you go back to Logic, the file should update accordingly.
    Hope that helps.
I understand this is how it is meant to be, but it has not worked for me for a couple of versions. I am having the same issue with Apple Loop Utility not updating the file in Logic.
