i got a doubt that there can be a role in a role.
in the hierarchy role is high
how can there a role in role.
Diff roles can be assigned to a user.
i know that.
but what about a role->role.
plz answer by taking a example.

ok thats right Ameya has sent some docs to u personally so u assigned points. But what is the use of posting a question in SDN instead u people can contact through mails only.
the main purpose of SDN is knowledge sharing that is if some other person gets same problem he can refer ur thread instead of posting a new question.
So please consider this and please have discussion thro SDN only.it will be useful to others also.

Dear Experts ,
When we are trying to access *requisition in recruiter role in portal it is showing you are not authorized to perform this applcation. Can you pleae suggest me what will be the problem.
For clarity we are having EHP4 , and the portal nw7.1 , we have assigned SAP _ALL to the user we are testing and in portal we had assigned super admin , recruiter , recrutiment administrator.

You assign Roles to Users and not to portals.
Check this to know about Role:

So a role has contents that a user can see and also privilages that the user can have (UME Actions).

When a user is assigned certain roles which have contents and also UME Actions, this user sees them when he logs on onto the portal and also has this set of privilages.

Runtime error in Business planning role on portal EP7.0

Hi all,
We are using the BI integrtaed planning role from portal.( Ep 7.0) and backend system is BI7.0.
1)I added the role com.sap.ip.bi.business_planning_showcase to the user
2) I created the JCO connections
BI_MODELDATA
● BI_METADATA
● WD_ALV_MODELDATA_DEST
● WD_ALV_METADATA_DEST
3)In spro of BI7.0 settings for starting planning modeler I gave the url of the portal.
Now when open the BI planning role it is throwing the error
com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Failed in WD JNDI lookup. javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No child found in WebDynproContext with name biplanstartpage .
Any suggestions please.

Hi,
If you are using Ep 6.0 Sp 15 then you have to deploy the BIKIT for Sp 13 on the portal using SDM.
This will solve Your problem.

I have portal 6.0. How can i see the ABAP roles in portal. I know there is some backend system need to configured. please write step by step. I can create users in portal which is replicated in ABAP.
i have gone thru some forums but did not get the answer.

I have NW2004s Portal installation (EP7.0 on WAS 640).
I see following roles in Portal ( GP Administrator, GP User, GP Superuser, GP Business Expert etc).
I assigned all the GP roles to a particular user. When the user tries to access these role, he gets following exception

Thr problem with this is I could n't put more no of users in the notepad.
I would be able to put only 150 users in the single line of notepad. If it goes to next line it is not working.
I tried creating seperate notepad but in Import it says "exists"
I'm not sure about LDAP. Would anyone explain me the best approach to do this.

R/3 Transaction Iviews vs Imported ABAP Roles on Portal

Hi,
In one of our requirement, Business needs to set up such that client should be able to have web based access to R/3 Transaction through Portal.
We can achieve that by creating system in portal and create Transaction iview with required T-code of R/3.
Whats wrong if we can define roles in ABAP system for a user with full hierirachy and import those ABAP roles into portals.and through portal we can give unified web based access to imported roles?
Does both the possibilities accomplish our need?what are main gaps between these two methods?
I want to go by Import method,Any suggestions please?

I agree with you that the ABAP role has a complicated menu structure and uploading has to be done at regular basis.
Is there any mechanism through which any change in ABAP role structure in R/3 reflects in portal exactly so that there is no need of regular uploading?
If not?So in which business scenario uploading of ABAP roles into portals are helpful?whats the use?
Coming back to your second solution
It is much easier to have one transaction iView that starts transaction SMEN, which presents the user's full SAP menu in a single screen
But about about a user if he wants to navigate from this transaction SMEN to another transactions to which he is authorised to(R/3 Back-end)through this single Transaction iview.
In other words if we want to have access to 5 transaction iviews in R/3,do we need to create 5 corresponding transaction iviews in portals?How to achieve this requirement in a better way?

How to programmatically upload roles to Portals.

How can we programmatically upload roles from CUA to Portal. Are there any BAPI's or any other methods that we can use to accomplish this. We currently have a program that runs as a job every night to create users and assigns them roles in R/3, EBP and WP systems and we would it to do the same thing for portals.
Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your guidance. We are still stuck, we checked the configuration and it's set to SAP system but we don't see any R/3 roles in portals. Can you give us a little more details on:
1). Are there any specific entries in dataSourceConfiguration_r3_roles_db.xml file that would need to be changed?
2). Do we have to create roles in R/3 any differently in order for them to appear as groups in portal? Should these roles be created in ABAP side of Portal client or in R/3 client. Also, Where do these roles appear as groups in portal(path to get to those groups).
Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Unhandled exception for uploading BW roles into portal

Hi experts:
I got the following warning in the log viewer when I uploade 2 BW roles, ZB_SAP_BW_DEVELOPER
ZB_SAP_BW_WEB_ADMINISTRATOR, into portal (7.3). They are copies of the standard SAP roles. I succcessfully uploaded other BI roles. These are the only ones that can not be uploaded. There is no error on the portal. Upload completed 100% but these 2 roles are not in the uploaded role list. I checked sm12 and they are not locked. Wonder if anyone has had the same issue and solution?

In the User Administration --> Identity Management, search the user or group or role then click on the result list item then you will get the details.

User Mapping is one of the TAB(7th). Click on that User Mapping TAB

Is there a way to automatically map CRM Roles to Portal Roles

Scenario:
When a new user registers on our portal he is assigned a CRM Role, however, he still needs to be assigned a Portal Role. Since we will have many users registering through our portal we do not want to assign roles to users manually. We want this to be an automated process, which requires almost no administration after the initial configuration.
Solution we are looking for:
Ideally we would like to do some configuration on the Portal side that would some how pull roles from CRM user store and map them on to appropriate Portal roles. In our case the reverse would also be ok as well, i.e. we do some configuration on the CRM side that would push the appropriate role to the Portal and do the Portal Role assignment.
Does anyone know how to do this? I am very new to portals so a detailed explanation would be very helpful.

No, the portal role will not be the same for the same CRM Role.
So for example...
On the CRM side we have CRM_ROLE_A, CRM_ROLE_B, and CRM_ROLE_C and on the Portal sider we have PORTAL_ROLE_A and PORTAL_ROLE_B.
All mappings given are possible...
CRM_ROLE_A = PORTAL_ROLE_A
CRM_ROLE_B = PORTAL_ROLE_A and PORTAL_ROLE_B
CRM_ROLE_C = PORTAL_ROLE_B
The solution you mentioned, will it work with the above mappings?
