Roll back kernel help

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to roll back the kernel on my first install because after upgrading my "dhcp" does not work. I've read that this has been happening to a lot of people and they said that rolling back the kernel fixes their problems. So i followed the wiki; http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Panics , and im getting the error that the file is not there. I'm booting ArchLive off of a USB. The root sda1, and the USB ArchLive is sdb1. If i mount sda1 then get to
# pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-2.6.23.xx-x.pkg.tar.gz
i use this instead;
/media/disk1/addons/core-pkgs/kernel26-2.6.25.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
because that is where it is when i locate the file in my Ubuntu installed partition. I tried using 'ls' to find the file but im not able to. Any ideas?

Which kernel version did you upgrade from/to?
/var/cache/pacman/pkg contains all the packages you have downloaded and installed either from your installation or from your last execution of `pacman -Scc'. So if you don't have a kernel26-2.6.23.xx-x.pkg.tar.gz (where the xx-x is additional kernel/package version information) then you will be unable to install that version.
If you do an ls /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26* it will tell you which versions of the kernel you have available to you, so use pacman -U on the last version before you had problems.
If you do not have the version you want, drop me a line and chances are I will have the package you are after.

  • Rolling Back - Need help with Install

    Hiya Folks,
    I have decided to roll back versions as we need to keep running our test cases with VB support. The version I have found is 8.3. I think that one is pretty good.
    I am struggling to install the Eme Database... Where is the install for that? Is it seperate to the ets830.exe?
    If any of you have any installation docs that explains how to install from scratch i would appreciate it.
    I would like to install the E-load and Emanager on my local machine, but the eme database on one of our SQL boxes.
    Thanks peeps

    The last "Full Retail" DVD contained 10.6.3.
    I expect that MacBook Pro cannot run 10.6.3, but needs a later version. You cannot run an earlier version thatn the one that shipped on it when the Hardware was first introduced.
    Call AppleCare with your serial number in hand. Ask for a specialist in your computer type. Ask for the 10.6 version that shipped with your Macwhen introduced. If it is available, they will send it to you for a nominal fee.
    Mac OS X versions (builds) for computers
    If yours is an October model, they simply will not run 10.6.anything.

    itunes 64 bit on windows 7 is unable to install, i have the 64 bit installer version but it keeps saying "errors occurred" at the ( rolling back ) phase. HELP!!!

    I have the answer and this might be useful for any one else wondering about this in the future. If it helped you or explained what you wanted to know. Replay to the post pls
    It's quite easy actually. First have your "iTunes Library Extras", "iTunes Library Genius", "iTunes Library", and "iTunes Music Library" backed up. Download ans install iTunes 64-bit. I don't know what's so 64-bit about iTunes 64 since Win7 reports it as a 32-bit application in the task manager. But anyway. Install iTunes 64 and launch it. If you migrated your library to another drive like me go to settings in iTunes and change the directory to your location. Close iTunes. Replace the newly created files with your backed up files. Launch iTunes. iTunes will load and then update your library and from there you are set to go! so basically it is just like a normal upgrade. But if you hesitated to go from 32 to 64 like me, here is your answer.
    By the way. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 64-bit and it works without problems and syncing with my iPod Touch also works flawlessly.

    hi mate i think i may have just solved this for you. had the same problem as you, i uninstalled all apple products and quicktime and safari, did a disk clean up and deleted old restore points(might not need to but did it anyway) downloaded itunes from explorer and managed to install the new itunes 11 wooohooooo hope this helps buddy

    If you haven't already used Firefox Sync, you don't have a Sync account.
    If all you want to do is use Firefox Sync, you can install the Firefox Sync extension into Firefox 3.6.x versions. <br />

    Hello there Unicornbarf534,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you are unable to successfully install iTunes. I recommend the troubleshooting instructions in this article named:
    Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    Here is a general outline of where the troubleshooting will take you:
    General installation troubleshooting
    1. Empty your Temp directory and restart
    2. Completely remove iTunes and related components
    3. Install the latest version of iTunes
    Additional troubleshooting
    After performing each of the steps below, you will need to completely remove iTunes and related components and then install iTunes again to determine whether the issue is resolved.
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access
    2. Make sure your folder names don't contain strange characters
    3. Get the latest Windows updates
    4. Disable other conflicting software
    Additional Information
    If you only need to install QuickTime, or if iTunes installs but QuickTime installation did not complete
    Try downloading and installing the standalone version of QuickTime from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/. Be sure you download the version that does not include iTunes.
    If the steps outlined in this article don't help, you may be able to find a solution to your issue by searching the Microsoft support website.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Help with frozen process, retry delay and transaction rolled back

    Hi all,
    </br>
    </br>
    Is there a way to create a JPD that will be able to retry a specific logic for several times with <b>delay</b> in between and <b>freeze</b> on the last retry. Also, at the same time, <b>not rollback</b> any database commits?
    </br>
    </br>
    I have tried several ways to approach this but did not work.
    </br>
    </br>
    1) create a JPD with transaction block with start node = "<b>freeze on failure</b>". Set retry count and delay in the transaction block. The outcome is, the JPD freezes, retries correctly, unfreezed properly, <b>but all DB transactions are rolled back</b>
    </br>
    </br>
    2) create a JPD without transaction block, and set start node with "<b>freeze on failure</b>", group the nodes that I would like to perform retry and in the <b>exception path</b> add in the retry count. Use <b>timer</b> in the exception path to introduct the delay. The outcome of this is: JPD freezes, retries correctly, <b>unfreezed INCORRECTLY</b> (when trying to unfreeze this process, it will start at the ontimeout method of the timer and does not start from the beginning of the jpd), DB transactions are commited correctly
    </br>
    </br>
    Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated...
    </br>
    Thanks!
    </br>
    </br>
    Carol

    The issue may be due to the transaction timeout, verify the configured timeouts and the processing time of the process B.
    Try increasing Sync Max Time Out and the other timeouts accordingly and test it.
    Refer the below URL for the details of configuring the timeouts.

  • How do I roll back my kernel to a version I've never had installed?

    So according to the wiki, the method for rolling back any package is to go to
    /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
    and find whatever the old piece of software is.
    However, I've just recently installed Arch, and the only version of the kernel I have in there is 3.3.1.
    If I were to want to get 3.2.14, how would I get it?
    I've searched google (though mind you I have a very limited knowledge of what to search for, as of yet, seeing as this is day 1 arch for me ), and haven't really come up with any solutions to this other than recompiling the kernel.
    Any ideas?

    Or go the manual way; find the wanted version of the PKGBUILD for that package and compile it yourself. So go to http://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/x86_64/linux/ and click on 'View changes'. The version that matches your wanted 3.2.14 would be https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … b1e75b2e74 So download all the files and execute `makepkg` in the directory you downloaded them in

  • How do you roll back from 10.6.8? Kernel Panic, etc.

    Any way to roll back to 10.6.7?
    A *LOT* of my files have disappeared!

    If files are disappeared, and you don't have a backup, try one of the recovery tools on my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html#RECOVER
    And in the future never upgrade without a backup. The fact you are losing files suggests there is something else possibly damaged on your system.  What's hard to know is whether it is software or hardware.  One thing that causes files to disappear, is Spotlight's indexing not being complete.    If you are backed up, try rebuilding your Spotlight index and rebooting.  To rebuild the Spotlight index, drag your hard drive into the Privacy section of Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Privacy, and then select the minus sign below the privacy field to remove it.  Watch the Spotlight menu every several minutes to see if the indexing note is gone.  Once gone, reboot. Also if you are backed up, try repairing the directory*: http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
    Either method is often faster than recovering your data.

  • I updated my firefox yesterday and am now regretting that desicion. The new version is painfully slow and scrolling is even worse. Is there any way to roll back to my previous version?? Please help

    All pages are very slow to load. Ebay is among the worst. The scolling is choppy at best, and all check boxes and expandable fields just show up blank. Desperately need to roll back the upgrade.

    I'm having a similar problem. Something I've noticed is that the page doesn't seem to advance to whatever I've clicked on without me moving the cursor. I have no idea why that would make a difference.

    Looks like a classpath mismatch between the version of ejbc used to
    compile the bean and the server which deployed it.
    You must be using 5.1. Newer versions of the server handle this much
    better.

  • How do I roll back to 10.7.3?

    I've had multiple kernel panics since I updated to 10.7.4.  I visited the Genius Bar yesterday and follwed their advice to do a reinstall of Lion. It reinstalled 10.7.4 and I've continued to have kernel panics. From looking through discussions, it appears to be an unresolved issue with 10.7.4 and the concensus is to roll back to 10.7.3.  Can someone walk me through the process of doing so?
    I do back up to a Time Machine/Capsule, which I actually suspect as being part of the problem...it doesn't seem to be working well since I updated to 10.7.4. However, it reports a back up from yesterday which would be before the reinstall but would still be 10.7.4.  The strange thing is that is reports "none" for oldest backup and appears to do nothing when I click on 'enter time machine'.
    I'd appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!

    No, not on LIon it's not (that article is from Leopard).
    The problem starts with the fact that when you erase a disk, it's treated as a different one, even if it has the same name.  But effective with Snow Leopard, a full restore is supposed to leave a "trail" that the next backup can use to determine what happened, and only do an "incremental" backup of the changes.
    You may be able to force Time Machine to "associate" the restored disk with the old backups, per #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  You'll need the procedure in the pink box there.

  • Nvidia problems, need to roll back

    I got some error when updating to the latest nvidia version about some failure to get supported display devices so I need to roll back to an older version. The problem however is that the old version use the old kernel and I have the 3.1 version. So I need to make some own package or whatever it is called and I have no idea how to do it. I will need a PKBUILD file to base the package on and I have no idea either where you find a relevant PKBUILD for nvidia either. Can someone please help me?

    Downloading the 275 version from AUR solved my problem temporary, but now the kernel have been updated again so I cannot use the 275 version anymore. And the newest version of nvidia does not solve the problem. Here is the xorg log: http://pastebin.com/kkembEBG
    There is a relevant post in the forums about that problem: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130803
    So I have to downgrade nvidia, I feel it was to noobish to ask how to do in that topic. And since it seem to depend on the kernel, it does not seem to be a easy way to downgrade.

    "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."
    However, the installation doesn't work no matter how many times i reinstall it. I've fully uninstalled everything related to apple and used the microsoft's utility to check if they were properly uninstalled before reinstalling itunes, but I still got the same message.
    I found out that Apple Mobile Device Service was not installed and that was the problem. When i extracted AppleMobileDeviceService.msi from the iTunes installer and ran it, it rolled back too. So I used the /l*v command to create an installation log and this is the error.

    Can anyone help me please? Any help will be appreciated =P
    Cheers

    I have recently been fighting my system to get itunes to recognise my iphone and i ran into a similar problem.
    I couldnt uninstall the old version of apple mobile device support, and installing the new itunes over the top did not seem to help either.
    But i found a work around.
    Try opening the itunes.exe install package with winrar. (www.winrar.com, its a free program) and then extracting only the applemobiledevicesupport.exe file.
    Reboot your system, run that file and then reboot again.
    It should work.
    If it doesnt, then good luck to you :P
