Rollback Airport update 2005-001

Any way to rollback Airport Update 2005-001 ?
After having problems with 10.4.3, I updated to 10.4.4 with some trepidation, but that worked beautifully.
Then I made the mistake of accepting the Airport update in Software Update. My airport connection to the internet immediately died after that. Can still connect to my base station using ethernet and surf the internet, but once I connect by airport, the wireless connnection to the base station is fine, but I cannot surf using Safari or Firefox, or download mail. Pinging still works, though, strangely enough.
Base station is a Compex NP28G. Ironically Airport Update 2005-001 was supposed to improve compatibility with 3rd party wireless equipment, but it broke my connection !!

Hi Shih-Tung -
I don't have an answer unfortunately, but I do have the same question, except my system is running 10.3.9 and the airport extreme firmware is version 400.17 (3.90.34.0.p11)
I would appreciate information on rolling back as well - after accidentally applying the "upgrade," my wireless connection is unusable. It can connect, and gets a strong signal, but can't get an ip address. Even setting the ip manually doesn't work. I can connect just fine with ethernet. I have a belkin F5D7230-4 router.
Thanks,
Bree

  • Airport Update question

I have Airport ver. 9.52 on my iBook.
When I check for updates it says that there is an update available called:
*Airport Extreme Driver Update 2005-001* (Version 1.0)
+"This update resolves AirPort compatibility issues with certain third party 802.11 cards and access points for Mac OS X v10.3.3 through 10.3.9"+
Should I download and install this update?
Are Airport and Airport Extreme different things?

You can download and install this update, but it will add not functionality to your computer. It is designed for Airport Extreme routers which might be managed by your computer. It will cause no harm to download and install, and you won't have to view the reminders.

  • After Aiport Extreme Update 2007 001 broke LEAP and 802.1x authentication

Apple Updater installed the Airport update 2007 001. This has completely broken my LEAP and 802.1x network access. It never recognizes the "preferred" networks, and if I connect manually by entering in the password it doesn't transmit any packets.
I tried to reverse the upgrade by following these instructions but then it wouldn't recognize my airport hardware: www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070126190822382
I tried to file a bug report, but that apple bug reporter seems to be down (it says, "An Exception has Occurred (click triangle to view)" but no triangle exists).
    ***?

I finally discovered what was going on. When doing either the 10.4.9 update or the Airport update, my /System/Library/Keychains/X509Anchors file was either corrupted or completely emptied. The file did remain with 0K size.
I started noticing that all SSL connections from the computer were failing (Safari, iChat, whatever) that depended on the Mac OS X components to do the SSL validation. (Firefox continued to work fine, as it has its own SSL stack.) I then ran the Keychain file check in Keychain, which alerted me to the exact file problem.
My wife also has a MacBook with the same version of Mac OS X, so I was able to copy her X509Anchors file to my computer and everything worked perfectly after that. SSL came back, iChat works, Safari works with SSL, and 802.1x works again.
    Hope that helps someone else...

  • Airport 2005.001 Update not automatically selected in Software Update Pgm

This post was originally posted in the Tiger Installation and Updates forum. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1403953#1403953
It was suggested that this post be posted in the Airport forum. Perhaps some one knows the answer.
I just upgraded to 10.4.3. It went smoothly! But I needed to fix file permissions after the update using the Disk Utility.
Then I ran software update. Software Update now shows the following updates:
    iTunes Phone Driver
    Quicktime 7.0.3
    iTunes 6.0.1
    Airport 2005.001
    iPod Updater 2005-11-17
    Security Update 2005.009
I never saw the Airport Update and the new Security Update until after I upgraded from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3. (I suspect both are related to 10.4.3).
What is strange is that all the updates are checked when I run Software Update EXCEPT the Airport Update.
Why isn't the Airport 2005.001 update checked like all the other updates? Should I be concerned? Should I manually check this Airport Update and update the software?
    Rob

You are correct when you say it is strange that the AirPort update was not automatically check in SU, I also observed this. Just check and go.

  • Airport 2005-001 update adversely affecting DHCP on PowerBook?

I have a PowerBook (Alum 1GHz) which after installing the above mentioned airport update has problem obtaining valid DHCP leases from my Airport Extreme or Airport Express base stations.
It works (or doesn't) something like this:
    1) open laptop (wake from sleep)
    2) airport connects, but network status says it can't obtain an IP.
    3) turn airport off and on again (doesn't usually fix it)
    4) open network sys pref and click "renew" over and over again until it gets a valid IP address.
It usually takes a while before it works. I can also, alternatively, just wait for 5 min or so and it'll fix itself. But waiting 5 minutes to get a network connection every time i open the laptop isn't really a good option.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix? I think i'll downgrade my airport drivers in the meantime.
    .tim
    PowerBook G4 12" (6,2)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

FYI: rolling back to the kext files from before the update didn't seem to make the issue go away. Which is very strange since I didn't have the problem before the update.
But i've got no better ideas.

  • System slows down after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001

my macbook's internet related performance has been significantly slowed down recently. i have windows xp installed on my mac from where i can compare the performance of ie and safari or ie and firefox on mac. the result is ie on windows xp is much faster. the wireless connection is even more reliable and has more signal strenth under windows. these "slow" situations of mac only happens recently, and the only thing that i can think of to mark the change is the installation of AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001. please advise what i can do to bring back the good performance of mac. (i.e.:if i type in www.google.ca in the address bar of safari, the blue bar will just be stuck around "http://" for a long time before the simple page gets loaded while the status bar of safari is showing contacting google.ca)

Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

ever since I installed the Airport Extreme update 2008-001 my internet connection has been dropping and it's so frustrating. I normally wait and don't install updates immediately after they are released. I installed this one and now my internet connection keeps dropping.
    Anyone have any suggestions??

  • After Security Update 2010-001: Airport Card Not Detected

Currently running OS X 10.5.8 on a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
Here's the issue. When I boot up the machine and click the AirPort drop down it tells me that there is no airport card detected. Under system profiler it says the same thing. If I boot to a 10.6 Mac OS Install DVD and open system profiler, the AirPort card is detected. This occurred after a reboot prompted by the Security Update 2010-001.
So far I have repaired permissions and repaired disk. No fix.
I reset the PRAM/NVRAM and SMC. No fix.
I booted to an OS X image on an external drive. No fix.
I cannot boot to the Apple Hardware Test (D at startup) because my company requires PGP disk encryption. I could decrypt but this would take at least 6 hours (not counting re-encrypting afterwards).
I tried replacing the extensions. No fix.
There were no firmware updates applied or any other major OS updates.
Anyone have anything else I can attempt?

    anyone else see that??
Yes, Already covered in full here. Strange but no problem.

  • Leopard 10.5.6, Kernel Panic after Airport Client Update 2009-001

    Hi Mac users,
Actually I'm working for an international school and we have a lot of students with Mac computers. Since 2 weeks now, all Mac crashed (Kernel Panic) several times per day. This issue seems arrived just after the Airport Client Update 2009-001.
As we didn't perform any change on our wireless infrastructure, we think it's an Airport issue.
Here a sample of Kernel Panic:

What can we do to solve this ? Can we find a solution without saying to the students "+please reinstall with the archive option but avoid the Airport Client Update 2009-001+" ? We tried to downgrade the wireless kernel extension to the previous version, without success.

    "My issues have mostly disappeared"
Do you still have issues?. I just spent all Sunday and half morning until I found it was paragon. Not only It panicked every time I logged in, also screwed my time capsule disk (couldn't restore from it). With so many restarts I had a really corrupted RAID disk so since this is my second full reinstall with no time machine, I don't want to get even close to Paragon unless it runs flawless.
I hope this may help: My solution now is Parallels over a NTFS bootcamp partition. I have a full NTFS disk which I use to bootcamp, since parallels allows you run over it instead of a virtual disk NTFS on HFS+. You can read and write back and forth.

  • 802.11n enabler (AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001/2007-001 update)

    Hi,
I'm thinking of getting time capsule and then getting the 802.11n enabler.
On the UK apple store(http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=17BDE0AD&fnode= home/shopmac/mac_accessories/airportwireless&nplm=D4141) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, but I can't find it.
On the US store (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?find=en abler) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 update. I found that one and downloaded it but when trying to install it says "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update".
What do I need to to get this update??
    Do I already have it??
Am I even able to get 802.11n??
    Any help will be welcomed
For clarification these are my specs taken from system profiler.
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB

So it looks like I can't get 802.11n on my mac then. Oh well, good excuse for a new mac.
The apple store is quite misleading then it says you need either:
MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme option
iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
I have the latter iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (2.16Ghz), will probably get time capsule anyway though.

  • Probem with AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 and InternetConnect

    Hello,
I have just installed AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 through SoftwareUpdate. SoftwareUpdate reported a successful installation and invited me to restart.
On restart, the machine does connect correctly to my wireless network, but InternetConnect does not give any information or allow any control, reporting Network Not Avaiable, Signal Strength 0, and Status not available. InternetConnect also does not allow me to turn Airport off.
Everything was fine before the update.
Looking in /var/log/install.log, I see that the process was fine through Install, but in Optimize there are a couple of update_prebinding errors. [relevant bit of log fie attached below].
Does anyone have any comments or fixes?

Sorry, a bit of a case of 'post first think later' - reinstalling the update from the .dmg downloaded from the apple web site fixed the problem - no errors on the Optimizing step second time around.
But I think that SoftwareUpdate should not have reported success first time around, when there were errors reported in install.log

  • Wireless connections drops after AirPort Extreme 2007-001 Update

Hello, I am getting a lot of wireless connection drops since I installed the AirPort Extreme 2007-001 Update. Anyone has similar issue? Any fix?

Well, I was conneting to the University's wireless server (which is maintained and huge) flawlessly prior to the update. My friend has a macbook pro and didn't apply the update and he has no problem. I installed the update and since then I'm having a hard time connecting to ANY wireless server/router.
I came across the following, looks like a lot of other persons are having the same issue:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070202141024604
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070126190822382
Looks like my solution would be to perform an Archive & Install and to not reinstall the AE 2007-001 update.

  • Security Update 2008-001 broke AirPort!

Forgive the lengthy post... I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm throwing it out there in case others are having difficulty with the same or similar problems.
I have a G3/900 iBook with maxed-out RAM, running 10.4.11. It had all the software updates available in 2007, and was connected to a US Robotics B/G router running in mixed mode. AirPort worked fine under WEP with 128-bit authentication (26 hex digits).
The US Robotics router gave up the ghost and was replaced by a similarly configured Linksys router. Same authentication, same mixed mode. I have two other wireless PC laptops and all were swimming along happily in the sea of data.
Then I updated iBook to Security Update 2008-001. The description in Software Update doesn't say anything about AirPort fixes being included, just a generic "you really need to download this" message.
Now, whenever I restart the machine, my AirPort card connects to my router, but instead of accepting the DHCP settings pushed down by the router, en1 adopts an APIPA (Automated Private Internet Protocol Address). The router's web-based utility shows that it's matched up the MAC address of the AirPort card and assigned it an IP. Doesn't make a difference whether I set it to static or dynamic, I have to restart TWICE, and manually turn AirPort off and back on the second time it boots up, in order for the TCP/IP stack to get it right. The other two Windows PCs, as much of a pain they were to configure initially, have no problem booting right up and connecting to the router.
I have reseated the AirPort card and cable to no avail. When it's connected, the signal is great - I can go down the block with this little white box - so I am relatively sure it's not a short in the AirPort antenna loop. The only configuration item that's changed is SU 2008-001.
Is there anything left I can try but back up my data and do an archive-and-install of Tiger?
    Thanks,
    Josh R.

I've seen scant evidence of this with some Routers & WEP connections.
Hard to tell which of these files is doing it, but since some files help recreate others, it may be best to drag all of these to the Desktop & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Then there's the Keychain Access reference to this connection that may need deleting & redoing, and also the plists tied to that MAC addy, which are generally of the form...
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist

  • Base Station Update 2007-001: AirPort Utility - where?

I am confused (is this a surprise?):
The recent "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001" (see link below) includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications, and I quote:
    - AirPort Utility
    - AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations.
I do have AirPort Admin Utility 4.2. So I download the update, but it tells me:
"You CANNOT install AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 on this volume.
This update requires AirPort Utility 5/0 to be installed."
Pardon? I do have AirPort Admin Utility 4.2.
    * Where can I get AirPort Utility in order to update AirPort Admin Utility?
Sure, if I buy a new square base station, I'll get AirPort Utility on a CD. But how to apply the fixes to my good old white spaceship and update AirPort Admin Utility? Looking for clarification. Thanks.
    Update: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/airportbasestati onupdate2007001formac.html

The old "Airport Admin Utility" 4.2.3 gets bumped to 4.2.5 and the name is changed to "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" since it is the only one still supporting the older models.
The bump from 4.2.3 to 4.2.5 must have fixed compatibility problems between the graphite/snow and "AirPort Admin Utility". If not, then owners of those base stations are going to experience problems.
Both Utilities can configure older Extreme and Express Base Stations.
It seems odd that one would be named specifically "...for Graphite and Snow"...

  • Cant restart MBP1.83 after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, Help

Today I have installed that update on my macbook pro 1.83 mghz as the only update available, accordingly to apple software update utility. After a succesfull download and preinstallation, when I have restarted a lot of unix command lines appeared on a black screen. Then restarted again and the same thing happened (command lines stopping at a empty line). After a hard restart, the system tries to start but it stays on fisrt screen (apple logo with round timer keeping rotating).
Help please!!! and be carefull anyone who tries to install this patch. Thanks!
PS: I have tried disk check and permissions test and everything is ok, the problem continues
    Macbook Pro 1.83mghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2Gb Ram

You cant have a macbook pro 1.83 you must just have a normal macbook 1.83ghz processor. The lowest model of macbook pro has a 2.16ghz processor. I currently have a 2.0Ghz macbook core duo machine and after installing the airport update the machine restarted then came up with a dialog box instead of booting the os saying that i should do a hard restart in order for everything to work properly so once i did a hard restart by holding down the power button till the machine went off everything has worked fine so far.
