Rollback lion

MacBook Pro will not wake from sleep. If I close the lid, the computer will not wake and must be hard shutdown and restarted. I've had nothing but problems since updating to Lion 10.7.3 two weeks ago. Snow Leopard never caused a problem and I was very happy with the MBP. Suggestions from Apple Support have not improved my situation as MBP continues to panic/crash/fail to wake.
Is it possible to format/erase the HDD and reinstall Leopard from disk? Have been told that the firmware updates with Lion will cause problems. I am really fed up with the problems caused by Lion and just want my MBP to be useful again. Thanks,

Reinstalling Snow Leopard is a very time-consuming, unpleasant process, involving erasing the hard drive.  You will probably have problems with any data that has been converted to a newer format in Lion, such as mailboxes in Mail.
Instead, you should try troubleshooting your current Lion install.  See Understanding upgrade nightmares for some suggestions.

  • Rollback Lion and use Time Machine to restore the data

I have to do a rollback of Lion back to Snow Leopard as I think that my hardware is too old and the system is not working without any troubles. Furthermore how do I use the Timemachine with Snow Leopard again after it was already converted to Lion structure?
I need the backup to restore all my data.

  • How to rollback Lion to Snow Leopard?

    Hi,
Lion caused serious problems with Airport, I have to switch the port on & off each 5 min! (non sense!)
How can I roll back to Leopard, given that I have no backups on Time machine or what so ever?

  • How can I rollback from Yosemite to Lion? I need to do this as I purchased a newer iMac and I have the old 17" iMac HD that I want to get the data migrated from. When I start the Migration Assistant it tells me that the OS X version is too old. Help!

I have purchased a newer mid 2011 iMac for my wife to replace her dead 17"iMac from 2006. It was running Snow Leopard. The new iMac has Yosemite and when I go into Migration Assistant it tells me that the OS X is too old, implying that I cannot get the data from it. How can I migrate this data to the new iMac? I have the hard drive removed and in an external enclosure connected to the new iMac.
    Thanks,
    Bill Stratman

Since any OS since Lion does not support Rosetta or PPC applications, you may want to check her apps for compatibility.
Have you tried to follow all the instructions here:
OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
Also, as a general note: when you got the 2011 iMac did it have the original OS installed as required by the SLA? The seller is to remove any OS version obtained at the app store since the license is not transferable - did he do that? If not, as the OS download is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it, you will not be able to update apps or reinstall the OS, so may I suggest you do this step now before you start porting over all the files. Use Internet Recovery: Hold Command + Option + R while restarting/rebooting until you see a spinning globe and a progress bar. After 2 - 10 minutes, you'll be connected to Apple's servers and see a Utilities window. Go to Disk Utility and choose erase your drive; once finished, go back to the window and choose to reinstall OS X. This should install a fresh original OS version which you can then update and tie to your wife's Apple ID.

  • Lion Restore Using Time Machine (Full System Rollback)

I recently installed Lion Server to my Imac, and have decided this was not a wise move (I'll use my Mac Mini Instead)
I'm looking to restore my system in its entierty to before I instaled the server.
I have a time Machine Backup for the point in time before the install was done, but I get messages saying that some files are locked, and I need to unlock them before I can do the restore. It does not tell me which files.
Is there an easy way to do the restore?
The IMac was bought in August and has been upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard, so I am guessing there is no recovery option as standard on the disk.
I can't find anything in knowledgebase, so what are my options?

Sounds like you're not using the right procedure (Apple doesn't make it clear, unfortunately).

One person had iffy 3rd RAM.
You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.
    Do a chkdsk
Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
    Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands)

It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

  • HT1222 I would like to see a "supported hardware list" so that I can check when my MPB is supported under Lion.

Since my MacBook Pro 6,1 (from mid 2010) is not supported by version 10.7.0, 10.7.1, or 10.7.2 of the operating system, I would like to be able to look at the update page and check whether it is supported in 10.7.3 (or whichever version is proposing to install itself). Since there is no such compatibility list I now have no option but to attempt an install, wait an unspecified time to see if the computer will crash or not, then either rollback to the backup again, or go with the new version and hope it keeps working!
A Hardware Compatibility List would remove the uncertainty, and would make this particular camper much happier!

Thanks, Csound1, that's what I would have understood from looking at the page that Rysz posted about. My MBP does indeed easily meet and exceed all of the requirements listed there (maxed out on memory, for example).
Unfortunately, that is no guarantee that Lion will actually run stably on the machine, and as a matter of fact, it simply won't. I've tried many times: clean install, update, you name it. Within an hour of the upgrade the machine experiences a kernel panic and must be shut down. That's not a level of instability that I'm willing to accept, since this machine is my livelihood, and must never crash of its own volition! So for now it's back to Snow Leopard again, until the next update of Lion comes out.
And yes, 10.7.3 is soon here! All that's missing is the knowledge that I won't be wasting another half-day by trying it out on an ancient machine upon which it has yet to be successfully installed. Hence my wish for a supported hardware list.
Yeah, I know, I know: I should just buy a new machine. I must seem like a stubborn old **** for wanting my 18-month old MBP to run the latest version of the OS, but hey, I'm a geek, it's what I do! Plus, I'm not rich, and $5,500 is quite a chunk of cash to be shelling out every 18 months, you know :-/

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • Recently installed lion and lost my I tunes library

    Hi
I have an I Mac I bought last Christmas, just got an I pad 2 and have an I phone 3GS .I was trying to get them all synced up using lion and I cloud,it seemed like it was all going well...I could view my whole music library at home on my I pad,and it played.later that day every time I tried to play a song on my I Mac I got an exclamation mark for some (many but random) songs and after thre hours on the phone with applecare and a "genius" helping me create a new folder ....I tunes 1 and transferring my 70 G of music into it with the intention of deleting my original file afterwards. I went out to dinner as it was taking a while ,when I got home 20G transferred ,and the rest is gone.....????i mean really gone form time machine,my hard drive and my external hard drive....
Any ideas so it doesn't happen again?

Are you sure its gone? What about in your Time Machine rollbacks? Search Time machine by accessing it through the Finder rather than the TM 'star wars' interface.
Alternatively, get a free copy of EasyFind and look for this folder
    'iTunes Media'
Select 'All Volumes' in the drop-down menu.
From the results, look for one that has a creation date prior to when your tried to sync. Double-click on it in EasyFind and see if it contains your missing content.

  • "Previous Version" analogue rollback software

    Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone here has experience with tools that work in the same way "Previous Versions" work in "M$ Window$".
This tool gives the user the possibilitie to "roll back" changes or recover deleted documents from a file share.
My server is fully backed up, but it would be handy if there was a tool that the users could use themselves. Or a tool that's quicker for us, the admins, to use than the tape robot .
Any suggestions are welcome, please tell me why you think this is a good tool you propose.
    Thanks in advance!

You're not on Windows, so things are going to be different.  Both the problems, as well as the solutions.
For starters, there are the expectations.  Microsoft implemented their rollbacks mechanism in Windows because their patches blew up.  Frequently.  OS X patches do occasionally fail, but rather less often.
To their credit, Microsoft has gotten vastly better here with their patch quality and their test coverage in recent years, though they still have a wildly more varied hardware base and a massively larger regression matrix to run; they've got a gazillion variations their software must function on, and that means far more corner cases than exist with the more constrained systems and hardware that Apple supports.
As for your questions, with Mountain Lion 10.8, you can roll back changes within a document with autosave.  (The "Save" mental model has changed, too, starting at 10.7.)
With Time Machine, you can roll back files to any arbitratry point.  That works with a local disk, and can save files to OS X Server or to Time Capsule.  The clients can self-manage that, too.
There are other approaches to the general problem, too, ranging from git or mercurial to Dropbox.com or Box.com, for instance.
Your reference to a tape robot implies this might be a rather larger site, so you may want to avail yourself of the Mac Enterprise mailing list; that's where the folks with the bigger configurations tend to lurk, so you'll find discussions of OD, Sharepoint-like solutions, backups and other such in the archives over there.

  • Mac os X Lion All My Files Empty

    I Have a Macbook White [October 2009]
and i install the new Lion Software
but i found a problem, i open the "All My Files" icon and its all blank, empty
can be fixed ? i need help to this problem

I remember having done two things:
Finder has a default view when you open a new window: I've changed it from All my files to something else.
In Finder preferences, I've unchecked All my files to make it disappear from the sidebar.
Then I just rollbacked the two actions above, and it worked!

  • Upgrading to itunes 10.5.2 makes Xcode 4.2.1 crash.  How can I rollback iTunes to 10.5.1?

I upgraded to OSX Lion last week and had to upgrade Xcode to 4.2.1 so it was compatible with the new OS.  Today I upgraded iTunes from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2.  Now every time I start Xcode it crashes. I tried reinstalling Xcode, that didn't help. Is there a way to rollback the iTunes update?

    Hi dkwestfall62,
Is the error something like this:
UNCAUGHT EXCEPTION (NSInternalInconsistencyException): Couldn't load plug-in 'com.apple.dt.IDE.IDEiPhoneSupport' while firing fault for extension 'Xcode.Device.iPhonePlaceholder'
I'm almost in exactly the same situation as you except I upgraded iTunes first then went to Lion. If I get anywhere I'll let you know.

  • Failure migrating wiki to Mountain Lion Server with wikiadmin, value is out of range for type integer

We are trying to migrate our 10.6.8 wikis from the OS X Server to our new Mountain Lion OS X Server.  I am using "wikiadmin migration -r <collaboration directory> -g <wiki name>" to migrate each wiki individually. We have about 30 wikis in the old server, three of which fail to migrate, all with the same problem (below). The process runs successfully for a while, but ultimately fails and rolls back the transaction. It appears there is some problem trying to generate a unique filename, perhaps for some of the uploaded files?
Has anyone else seen this error? large amount of pages, content, and attachments in these wikis and just recreating them in the new server would be a monumental task. Some of these attachments include videos and other large files, not sure if that might contribute to the problem.

Okay, so a little more detail for you…
If I can manage to restart the server without the wiki service on, everything else seems to work fine (including the web service running the default home page) and "serveradmin fullstatus wiki" will report that the service is stopped.
But as soon as I try to start the wiki service, it never finishes, and it prevents the web service from working properly anymore. i.e. I get a 502 Proxy Error instead of the OS X Server default home page. It's after the attempted wiki start that "serveradmin fullstatus wiki" starts to give the
    serveradmin[2373:707] outstanding requests are: (
            Command = getState;
            Module = "servermgr_wiki";
            Timestamp = "2012-10-25 16:22:15 +0000";
error. And then I can't stop the wiki service - even "serveradmin stop wiki" gives the same "outstanding requests" message.
This time I tried to stop the wiki from Server app and I got this error:
An error occurred on the server while processing a command.
The error occurred while processing a command of type 'getState' in plug-in 'servermgr_wiki'.
If it's helpful at all, I've notice the following in my log files that seem related, but I have no idea how to fix - it almost seems lie the migration of the wiki failed from 10.7 to 10.8:
collabd[767]: [CSConnectionPool:141 6a92000 +14027ms] Schema is STILL out of date (14 < 69) after launching wikiadmin, update failed! collabd will refuse to run until this is fixed.
I'm really pulling my hair out over here, and have no idea what to try next?
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you!
