ROLLBACK segments are not deallocated

Hi,
on 8i, Win 2003 the Roll back tablespace is not deallocated and enlarge since it is in Autoextend.
1-How can we see which query or application occupies RollBack segment ?
2-How to see why it is not deallocated ?
Many thanks before.

1 You need to look at v$transaction. V$session points to v$transaction by means of the column taddr.
2 extents of rollback segments are not allocated ever, by design. Deallocating an extent is costly, also it increases the chance you run into ora-1555.
IIRC 8i is desupported for quite some time, and not certified on Win2003.

• Profitability Segments are not created for Invoices

Hi Guru's
Can any one help on this ?
"Invoice Documents Profitability Segments are not created" can you please suggest me?
Thanks,
Aakash

Hi Aakash,
I think you are trying to integrate FICA with CO-PA and then getting the error.
The posting of a contract accounts A/R & A/P document in CO-PA is dependent on-
(a) Activation of the operating concern in the SPRO node Controlling → Profitability Analysis →
Structures → Define Operating Concern → Maintain Characteristics
and
(b) CO short account assignment of the contract in the SPRO Node Financial Accounting → Contract
Accounts Receivable and Payable → Basic Functions → Posting and Documents → Documents
→ Define Account Assignments for Automatic Postings → Store CO Short Account Assignments
for IS-U Contracts.
In here, the system only carries out the posting if the Profitability Segment Assigned selected in CO
account assignment.
Hope it helps...
Thanks,
Amlan

• Rollback Segment are Full.

My production database rollback segments are near to full.
What is the best way to perform tunning ?
Should I go drop roolback segments and recreate ?
Can we drop the SYSTEM rollback segment and recreate ?

Rollback will always show full. As items are commited and written to the database, the space will be re-used, but the high water mark doesn't change. Unless you are getting unable to extend messages, don't worry.

• BDOC and Segment are not valid

Hi All,
We are facing an issue in the BDOC creation, We have a created a query BDOC (Mobile Application Modifiable ) in the CRM System, Activated it. Generated the Metadata in the Client console. We have used the same bdoc and segment for the document generation.
However In the Mobile client when the document is generated we are getting an error "BDOC and Segment are not valid" please let us know.

Hello
Could you please apply the notes 1161839 and 1164220 which has fixes for that issue.
After applying the fixes, register the dll Genservicewrapper.dll present in
<<Drive>>:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE
After that, register UGM.dll preesnt in %mobilerootdir%\Bin.net folder.
Now open MAS and sync the BDOCs.

• Rollback segment number not shown with name " not shown " too small

Hi,
we have a table TABLE1 with a BLOB field FIELD1 on a Oracle 10g database. Today we found out that there is one record in that table that make problems. if we try to read the BLOB data from that record, Oracle shows the error:
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number with name "" too small
The strange thing about it, that the message shows neither the segment number nor the segment's name. Like it has lost the reference to it.
Could you help please.
Notes:
The TABLE1 and the BLOB data are really not big.
The UNDO tablespace is 2Gb big and just 1% used.
Thank you very much
Igor

Out-of-row LOB undo is maintained in the LOB segment. So the UNDO tablespace and undo retention is not associated with most LOB ORA-1555 issues. Instead the LOB column is created using either PCT_VERSION or RETENTION to manage how much space within blocks or time transpires before the LOB undo is overwritten. In environments with high updates, deletes on rows including LOBs, the chances of ORA-1555 on LOB undo is very high.
Source:http://blogs.oracle.com/db/entry/troubleshooting_ora_1555
In the above link you will get plenty of good metalink notes to understand and solve the issue.
There is no undo segment name in the error message means this error has no relation with undo tablespace/parameter/segment. This might mean that your LOB table is corrupted. Can you drop and recreate/re-populate this table and try again ?

• CL_HTTP_CLIENT, Content-Length in multipart segment are not part of RFC 186

Hi, we are generating http multipart request using class CL_HTTP_CLIENT, and multipart segments header are filled with Content-Type and Content-Length, by default. Both elements are not part od RFC 1867, and request is not working.
We find a way to avoid Content-Type in note 582889 "delete Content-Type of HTTP request header", but we can find anything to avoid content-length.
POST /TransporteBienes/SeguridadCliente/presentarRemitos.do HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=ejjeeffe0

30663288497
--ejjeeffe0
Content-Length: 6
content-disposition: form-data; name="password"
We need to avoid content-length:
POST /TransporteBienes/SeguridadCliente/presentarRemitos.do HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=ejjeeffe0
Content-Length: 759
accept-encoding:

Is there any way to do that?

• Address DFF segments are not required.

Hi,
In Address DFF, State and County segments are defined mandatory. But in SSHR they are not displayed as required fields?
How can i make them required using personalizations? or Do i need to customize to make them required?
Any Pointers?

Is it a seeded page or custom one? If it is a seeded page, you can log a tar and follow. Just to be sure of this behavior, also try to create a test page with the same DFF and check the outcome. Ideally, it should show the * sign.

Please present evidence to backup your assertion that "Queries are not releasing temp tablespace"
From the very fine 11g Database Administrator's Guide, at Managing Tablespaces
Space Allocation in a Temporary Tablespace
You can view the allocation and deallocation of space in a temporary tablespace sort segment using the V$SORT_SEGMENT view. The V$TEMPSEG_USAGE view identifies the current sort users in those segments.
When a sort operation that uses temporary space completes, allocated extents in the sort segment are not deallocated; they are just marked as free and available for reuse.

• ORA-01581: attempt to use rollback segment...

We've started getting "ORA-01581: attempt to use rollback segment (31) new extent (3) which is being allocated" messages in our production database over the last couple of days. Of course, each time we get these the rollback segment number is different, and we are getting these randomly from different applications that connect to the same database. We are using automatic undo management, so the rollback segments are not really under our control. The action in the Oracle docs for this error message doesn't give any specific actions that we should take, but we continue to get these.
We started to get these about the same time as we ran out of available sessions on the database (sessions = 1500 and we had 1500 open sessions). Could these be related? Could there be some open session that may be causing the rollback segment issue? Would a restart of the database fix this? Of course the max sessions issue was cleaned up two days ago but the rollback segment issue is a lingering problem.
Any help would be appreciated. We couldn't find anything for this online and Oracle hasn't responded to our service request yet.
Thanks,
Bobby

As I understand it, you can not explicitly set the size for the undo segments in automatic undo management mode. From the Concepts guide:
"In automatic undo management mode, the system controls exclusively the assignment of transactions to undo segments, and controls space allocation for undo segments."
It looks like we are also using the default storage options that are set when the UNDO tablespace was created. Here is the DDL used to create this tablespace:
CREATE SMALLFILE UNDO TABLESPACE "UNDOTBS" DATAFILE '/alpha/oradata/prod01/undotbs01.dbf' SIZE 750M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 25600K MAXSIZE 2000M , '/alpha/oradata/prod01/undotbs03.dbf' SIZE 2000M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 51200K MAXSIZE 2000M , '/alpha/oradata/prod01/undotbs04.dbf' SIZE 2000M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 104K MAXSIZE 2000M , '/alpha/oradata/prod01/undotbs02.dbf' SIZE 2000M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 25600K MAXSIZE 2000M

• Creating rollback segments

I would like to know how to create the perfect rollback segments.
I currently have a database that is up and running, but I feel that the rollback segments, are not running at there best.
I know that the minextents should be set to 20 extents, inital and next are to be the same, but I don't know what the best optimal figure should be.
Looking at the view $waitstat, "undo header" is at a non-zero figure, so this has prompted me to re-configure the rollback segments. Currently the highest HWMSIZE is 45m, and the highest AVEACTIVE is 3m.
Can anyone help?

Hi
ORA-01552: cannot use system rollback segment for non-system tablespace 'string'
Cause: An attempt was made to use the system rollback segment for operations involving non-system tablespace. If this is a clone database then this will happen when attempting any data modification outside of the system tablespace. Only the system rollback segment can be online in a clone database.
Action: Create one or more private/public segment(s), shut down and restart. May need to modify the initialization parameter ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS to acquire private rollback segment. If this is a clone database being used for tablespace point in time recovery then this operation is not allowed.
Hope this helps

• ORA-01534 rollback segment 'R1' does not exist

Greetings
HELP!! We are using oracle 8.0.5 ...
The database will not open because it says the system
rollback segment does not exist.
The database mounts but won't open. from the file system checks,
the dbf file that contains the system rollback segment appears to
be fine.
Is there anyway to recreate the sys rb seg ? any way to correct
whatever is causing it to think it doesn't exist?
or if it is just hosed, is there any way to retrieve the data in
the data dbf files through another oracle installation or another
oracle database??
Thanks for any input!

Check your init<SID>.ora file. Check the parameter
rollback_segments. If its value contains R01, delete R01. After
that, save the file and startup again.

Hi,
Its ora-1555? IS your undo_retention sufficient?
Since you are developer the only option you have is to tune the query?
Am curious to know like I create materialized view so that I do not have to run complex query on the master database / or to prevent the access to master database more than once to get the same data?
Like to know which is your case because your query seem to be too complex to be the case for former. Do you think this materialized view would be used frequently in your application?

• Datafile containing rollback segment crashed

Hi,
In one of our production box (oracle 8.1.7.4 and HP UX), datafile containing rollback segment crashed. To open the database, i commented rollback segment line in init file and started the db and brought the crashed datafile to offline for dropping as
alter database datafile '/db10/rollback/rbs01.dbf' offline drop;
and then tried to drop the tablespace containing that datafile but it threw an error saying an active rollback segment R0 is still there in the tablespace. I donot know how to drop this and create new rollback segments. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Serious case. In case of a failure the instance recovery is automatic but the rollback segments are needed. Having the database open does not mean everything is OK. Just read that :
Crash or instance recovery consists of the following steps:
+# Rolling forward to recover data that has not been recorded in the datafiles, yet has been recorded in the online redo log, including the contents of rollback segments. This is called cache recovery.+
+# Opening the database. Instead of waiting for all transactions to be rolled back before making the database available, Oracle allows the database to be opened as soon as cache recovery is complete. Any data that is not locked by unrecovered transactions is immediately available.+
+# Marking all transactions system-wide that were active at the time of failure as DEAD and marking the rollback segments containing these transactions as PARTLY AVAILABLE.+
+# Rolling back dead transactions as part of SMON recovery. This is called transaction recovery.+
+# Resolving any pending distributed transactions undergoing a two-phase commit at the time of the instance failure.+
+# As new transactions encounter rows locked by dead transactions, they can automatically roll back the dead transaction to release the locks. If you are using Fast-Start Recovery, just the data block is immediately rolled back, as opposed to the entire transaction.+
What did you do exactly after the crash ? Can you post commands/output + last 50-100 lines of your alert.log ?

• Rollback segments - database logging

Got a problem...
We are trying to move data from one database to another using: INSERT INTO table1 (SELECT a,b,c FROM table2@db2). The problem we are having is that the amount of data being moved with this in sert command is too great - we are getting an error indicating that our rollback segment is not large enough - ORA-01562: failed to extend rollback segment number 4.
Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to increase the size of the rollback segment any further than we already have. Is there a way to disable the database logging that occurs?
I tried using INSERT INTO table1 dbms_disable_logging (SELECT a,b,c FROM table2@db2), but noticed no difference - same error.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Dan

We use select..into all the time in an unlogged mode for speed and rollback space reasons.
We replicate fifty million row tables with a minimal amount of rollback segment (<50MB).
In unlogged mode we can replicate 50 million rows in under forty minutes - that's smokin!
Oracle version 8 or greater introduced this concept. I am running 8.1.6.
You need to alter the table to disable logging and then perform the select into.
The table alter only takes seconds.
ALTER TABLE IDMDBO.DIM_PLANS NOLOGGING
Then do the select into and then turn logging back on (if so desired).
You can also disable logging at the table space level.
Keep in mind there are only a few database operations that can be performed unlogged and select..into is one of them.
There is currently no way to carte blanche disable transaction logging - hopefully this will be coming soon!
Cheers.

• Rollback segment autoextent=on

Hi,
in 8.1.7 how to see if rollback segment is in auto extent on or not ?
Many thanks.

rollback segments nor datafiles where you can enable autoetend on.
select SEGMENT_NAME, STATUS, MAX_EXTENTS
from dba_rollback_segs;
Onething that you can do with rollback segments are that enable max extents.
