Rolling Cluster Upgrade - removing old NetWare node?

According to the docs, you remove the old NetWare node from the tree, and then delete the Cluster Node, Server object and all corresponding objects related to the downed NetWare server.
I'm assuming by "cluster node" object they mean you go into the cluster object (the thingy that looks like 3 red balls) and find the "cluster" node that looks like an NCP server object with a red ball on it?
Secondly,
After you delete all those objects, are you still supposed to see it in the cluster?
Meaning you go into iManager, Cluster -> Cluster Manager, and it still shows that old server as belonging in the cluster, just that it's "unknown" state?

Well got an SR open at this point. Something definitely wrong with the cluster. eDir shows all the correct information, but when you go into iMangler -> Clusters -> Cluster Manager it has the following problems:
a) It shows a new resource called: CN (that has a triangle/pyramid icon) and shows "edir sync" with a yellow status icon. But you don't see this "resource" anywhere else.
b) The cluster node shows up, when you click on it, it shows it has an IP address that's one less than what it really is. (ie, 10.10.1.9 and it's really 10.10.1.10). It does this for EVERY cluster node
But, if you go into the Cluster Options, instead, and click on the cluster node, it shows the correct information there. eDir objects have the correct IP, etc.
I vaguely remember running into this years ago when we tried to remove/reinsert a cluster node on NetWare.
Where in the world does the cluster hold/get its information? It can't be from eDir because eDir shows up okay, so where the cluster thinks these other resources and IP's are is beyond me.

  • Rolling Cluster Upgrade (OES2 to OES11) - GPT partition

We've got an OES2 SP3 cluster that we'll be rolling cluster upgrading to OES11 SP2.
We are currently at max capacity for several of the NSS volumes (2 TB).
    If I'm reading/interpreting the OES11 SP2 docs correctly:
AFTER the cluster upgrade is complete, the only way I can get to larger volumes will be to create new LUNs on the SAN and intialize those with GPT. Then I could do the NSS Pool Move feature to get the existing 2 TB volumes to the larger setup?
    Is that correct?
Or is there a better way that doesnt' require massive downtime?

I was on the understanding that you could bind multiple partitions to
create NSS volumes up to 8TB. But I'd be hesitant to do that for a
    clustered volume as well.

My first thought is the migration wizard so that the bulk of the copy can
be done while system is live but in the quieter times. Then the final
update with down time should be much faster.
But then do you really need down time for the Pool Move feature?
    https://www.novell.com/documentation...a/bwtebhm.html
Certainly indicates it can be done live on a cluster with the move
    process being cluster aware.

Migration = pew pew (re-doing IP's/etc and copying 4 TB of data is ugly especially when it's lots of tiny stuff).
    haha
Anyway, when I asked about a better way that doesn't require massive downtime what I meant was:
Is there a better way vs. Pool Move that doesn't require massive downtime (in other words, the "other way" having the massive downtime, not the Pool Move).
Choice A = Pool Move = No downtime
But let's say that's not a good option (for whatever reason) and someone says use Choice B. But Choice B ends up requiring downtime (like the data copy option).
I just didn't know if Pool Move required that you create the partition ahead of time (so you can choose GPT) or if it kinda did it all for you on the fly (I'll have to read up when I get to that point).
I'm not terribly keep on having multiple DOS partitions, although that technically would work. Just always scares me. It's just temporary for the next 8 months anyway while we migrate to NAS from OES, but I'm running out of space and am on an unsupported OS anyway.

  • DVR Upgrade; Remove Old DVRs from List on Web and Mobile User Interfaces

I have upgraded two HD DVRs to the hardware with more storage space.  The new DVRs appear on the list of available DVRs on both the web and mobile applications for DVR management.  The old, uninstalled DVRs also continue to appear.   How can I remove the old DVRs from these lists?

Provided you returned the old DVR's using the materials and instructions that should have been provided when you received your new units, the old DVR's should disappear from your account in a week or two after they've been received and processed by Verizon.   I just renamed mine to "Returned" or something like that so that I would know to ignore them until they went away.
If it takes more than one full billing cycle and they still haven't disappeared, then I'd call to find out why they are still in your account (i.e. have your tracking information ready because it sounds like they may have gotten lost along the way).

This last weekend I upgraded my GI from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2.0

    New home is /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2/grid
    database home is /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
Now I would like to clean up by deleting the old GI home, and am testing on a sandbox under VBox. Same system as I used to test the upgrade procedure, and it looks as close to the live box as I can get it.
Of course, with 11g, the OUI doesn't do installs any more, and the supplied deinstall file also has issues.
Found MOS note 883743.1, downloaded linux.x64_11203_deinstall.zip and unzipped it, then ran that deinstall.
The deinstall failed, and the really surprising thing is it complained that a whole bunch of files in the old home are still in use ..

Where did you find that particular document?
I just now double checked the 'readme' docs that came with the 11.2.0.2 media I had downloaded and was working with. The download comprised of 3 (of 7) zip files. The first 2 for the database, and #3 for GI. Of course the 2 db files unzip to a common 'database' directory, and the GI unzips to its own 'grid' directory. Each unzipped directory has its own readme, and neither matches the part number of what you cited. (readme from Database is p/n E15732-03; from Grid is p/n E15732-03). Nor could I find anything about that issue in either of the readmes I have.
You can either use the workaround stated there.
However checking for notes in MOS you find:
How to Deinstall Old Clusterware Home Once Upgrade to Newer Version is Complete (Doc ID 1346305.1)
How to Proceed from Failed Upgrade to 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure on Linux/Unix (Doc ID 969254.1)
So you don't deinstall the old home, but you "simply" delete it.
Ok. Just as I used a vm to practice the upgrade, I've been using it to practice the cleanup. After reviewing my work some more, I see that it reported a 'detach' on the inventory. So I double checked the inventory.xml and see that it now lists the old 11.2.0 home as "removed". Also see this note in the MOS doc I was working from (note 883743.1), stating " Check if Oracle Home folder is deleted or not. If not then you have to remove it manually."
Still leaves me wondering why the desinstaller reported that it couldn't delete files/directories. Here's a sampling of the messages. Note the variety
Failed to delete the directory '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/auth/crs/vbdwprod'. The directory is in use.
Failed to delete the directory '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/auth/crs'. The directory is not empty.
Failed to delete the file '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/crs/init/ohasd'. The file is in use.
Failed to delete the file '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/crs/template/appvip.type'. The file is in use.Note especially that last one .. a file in the 'samples' directory is in use?!?!?! there were a total of 18 files in this samples directory that were reported "in use". And yet when I ran that list against fuser and lsof, they both returned nothing.
At least I now have a working solution.
Thanks to you and Pierre for your assistance.
Please make sure you moved all files... I had custom failover scripts build, which I had placed under $GI_HOME/crs/public.
These are not copied during the upgrade, so after I deleted the old home, I had to recreate the scripts and to reregister the resources...

  • Adding node back into cluster after removal...

    Hi,
I removed a cluster node using "scconf -r -h <node>" (carried out all the other usual removal steps before getting this command to work).
Because this is a pair+1 cluster and the node i was trying to remove was physically attached to the quroum device (scsi), I had to create a dummy node before the removal command above would work.
I reinstalled solaris, SC3.1u4 framwork, patches etc. and then tried to run scsinstall again on the node (reintroduced the node to the cluster again first using scconf -a -T node=<node>).
However! during the scsinstall i got the following problem:
Updating file ("ntp.conf.cluster") on node n20-2-sup ... done
Updating file ("hosts") on node n20-2-sup ... done

    - headwrecked

Hi - got sorted with this problem...
basically just removed (scinstall -r) the sc3.1u4 software from the node which was not booting, and then re-installed the software (this time the dummy node had been removed so it did not try to contact this node and the scinstall completed without any errors)
I think the only problem with the procedure i used to remove and readd the node was that i forgot to remove the dummy node before re-adding the actaul cluster node again...
If anyone can confirm this to be the case then great - if not... well its working now so this thread can be closed.

  • What are best practices for rolling out cluster upgrade?

    Hello,
I am looking for your input on the approaches to implement Production RAC upgrade without having a spare instance of RAC servers. We have a 2-node database RAC 11.1 on Production. We are planning to upgrade to 11.2 but only have a single database that the pre-Production integration can be verified on. Our concern is that the integration may behave differently on RAC vs. the signle database instance. How everybody else approaches this problem?

you want to test RAC upgrade on NON RAC database. If you ask me that is a risk but it depends on may things
Application configuration - If your application is configured for RAC, FAN etc. you cannot test it on non RAC systems
Cluster upgrade - If your standalone database is RAC one node you can probably test your cluster upgrade there. If you have non RAC database then you will not be able to test cluster upgrade or CRS
Database upgrade - There are differences when you upgrade RAC vs non RAC database which you will not be able to test
I think the best way for you is to convert your standalone database to RAC one node database and test it. that will take you close to multi node RAC

  • I did an upgrade from 4.0 to the new 6.0 about 5 months ago. After the upgrade installed it said reboot system to apply upgrade. Now it wont open and keeps telling me that the older version needs to shut down the computer and upgrade the old version.

Look at original question. When I did the download to the new 6.0 it said everything was fine. Then when I tried to use the firefox again it said an older version needed to shut down my computer so that it could upgrade the old version. It wont let me do anything and all it says is shut down computer so old version can upgrade. It wont let me open the program or remove it or anything. PLease help me with this. I really like Firefox but this has been going on for 5 months now and I still dont get answers from you. How do I fix this???

  • Cluster Upgrade..

    Hi Experts..
I have 11.1 Cluster with 10.2 Db with out ASM,
My Plan is I want to upgrade the cluster to 11.2 and Convert DB to ASM. so the plan would be below
    1.Upgrade 11.1 to 11.2 Grid (Rolling)
    2.Upgrade DB to 11.2
3.Make sure db is good after Upgrade and check application is fine
4.Configure Devices For ASM and create ASM instance and DIskgroup using ASMCA
5.Convert Existing Db from CFS to ASM
    So My question here is,
Can we Configure ASM after we upgraded Grid without ASM Option, using ASMCA?
Can we move Cluster Configration Files to ASM after we upgraded?

    Hi,
I think yes, you must create a ASM disk group with redundancy 5 way for OCR and VOTE Disk, and you can move to OCR and VOTE into ASM Disk group.
    Check : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e16794/votocr.htm
    and

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • My Time Capsule won't remove old backups so that it can keep backing up

My TC is associated with a few Macs and has gotten to pretty much full capacity, so not when it attempts to back up it says no more room blah blah blah. I was of the impression that it'd remove old back ups so as to maintain its backing up function. At least that's what it says on the tin.
    I'm confused.
Would I be correct in "assuming" that it will only remove old back ups of the first Mac it was associated with and that it won't remove back ups so as to fit in a new Mac.
    Standing by.
    Regards
    Gav

When you upgrade the OS it gets confused.. and it stops being able to delete old backups because which are necessary to a viable install is no longer known.
That is a very big backup that you have posted the screenshot.. and the simple fact is with multiple computers sharing the TC it may simply not be able to reduce its backup enough to fit.
    Here are your choices.
    1. Different backup location.. USB drive plugged into the computer or into the TC and use that.
    2. Archive off the old backups and start over with erase and redo the backup of all the computers.
    3. Delete just the backup of the computer you are trying to backup now assuming that will leave enough space to actually do the backup..
But it is not worth bothering unless you have at least 2x the drive space used..
    4. Open the TC (assuming it is gen4 or older and replace the drive with a new one.. say 4TB)
For a really old TC this is not worth it.. but gen3 or gen4 might last a while.
    5. Buy a brand new TC.. and start new backups to that. Erase and dispose of the old one.

  • Time Machine does not completely remove old Backups

    Hi all,
since the upgrade to SL it seem that Time Machine has problems to completely remove old backups completely. The "removed" backups do not show up in Time Machine anymore, but the backup folders and part of their contents can still be seen in Finder.
The number of expired backups not removed is growing. I know one should not fiddle around with backups in Finder or Terminal - but the system does not allow me to remove any of the files/folders anyway.
Here is part of the log:
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-08-06-211832
    Error -47 deleting backup: /Volumes/Drobo/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Pro HGA/2009-08-06-211832
Deleted backup /Volumes/Drobo/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Pro HGA/2009-08-06-211832: 1.75 TB now available
Post-back up thinning complete: 5 expired backups removed
    Backup completed successfully.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for helping
    Heinz

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
That happens occasionally, in both Leopard and Snow Leopard, sometimes after something was deleted from the Finder, but also after an abnormal shutdown or improper disconnection of the TM disk.
Run a +*Repair Disk+* on it via Disk Utility, in your Applications/Utilities folder. If it finds errors, but can't fix them all, run it again (and again) until it either fixes them all, or can't fix any more.

  • How to remove old owner

How to remove old owners name/apple Id out of my Iphone, because i cant upgrade ani Apps, because THE name/account of THE old owner is coming up olthe time, after THE upgrade to Io7
I own à legal Iphone-4/16mb with à legal Apple Id.

Only the old owner can remove their ID. This is Activation Lock, an antitheft protection system. Unless the previous owner releases the phone it cannot be used by anyone other than that owner. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661 for what the owner of an iPhone should do before selling or otherwise disposing of the phone.

Welcome to the Apple community Pavinee Supajilt.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
This article provides more information about Activation Lock.

  • I like to roll back to my old OS mountain lion system from This latest Mavericks

I have purchase a MACBOOK PRO in 2012 for my music station at home to use PROTOOLS 10.0.
It was working fine until I inadvertantly updated to the latest OS of OS X Maverikcs
Now I am in troulble using my PROTOOLS 10.0, I guess PROTOOLS not ready for this new OS X.
How can I roll back to my old OS Mountain lion system?

Restore from the backup you made before upgrading to Mavericks.
If you didn't make a backup there's no way to just "roll back" - you'll need to reinstall Mountain Lion.

can't save facebook photos to camera roll since upgrading to ios7, please help?  I press on photo, and menu comes up to save photo, but it is not in my camera roll.  What's up?

when you tried to save did facebook ask you permission to access to the camera roll?
if not close and open facebook and try to save a picture and see if it pops with the question.
if it doesn't, goto settings>privacy>photos and see if facebook is added there,
if it's added and not enabled, enable it.
if everything mentioned above fails, do a reset by holding the power and home button until the apple logo appears ignoring the slide the switch off and try again to save it
