Rolling Delete on a User Mailbox or Folder?

With Sent, Junk and Trash mailboxes it is possible to implement a rolling delete of these mailboxes so that they move mail to trash (or erase it permanently) when it is either one day, one week or one month old.
Is it possible to implement a similar scheme on a user-created mailbox or folder? If not are there any third-party applications or applescript work-arounds that can help me implement this?
I get emailed the weekly schedules of all the cinemas in the local area which gets routed to an email mailbox I call "Cinema". It would be great if this folder could delete all the emails that are out of date without me having to prune it of the older schedules automatically.

Sorry, that last word should have been "manually", not "automatically".

  • Deleting emails with a specific subject from a single user mailbox

we are exchange 2007 on SP1. we do not have an edge server, only a hub server.
A user mailbox was flooded with 11000 "Undeliverable:" emails in the last 2 days, the source being "DSA". I am still finding out why this has happened. As for now, I have set up a rule to silently drop all emails with this specific subject.
now the user wanted our team to delete all of these 11000 emails from his mailbox.
we gave the appropriate permission to the users mailbox by running the command
Get-Mailbox -Identity “[email protected]” | Add-MailboxPermission -User [email protected] -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType all
Then I ran the below command
    Get-Mailbox -Identity “[email protected]” | Export-Mailbox -SubjectKeywords "Undeliverable:" -IncludeFolders "\Inbox" -StartDate "09/22/2014" -EndDate "09/23/2014" -DeleteContent -Confirm:$false
The command ran for a while, showing it was deleting 19000 odd emails with the below summary

  • [3.0.04] Delete user defined report folder

    Hello Forum,
a few days ago, I got a new computer and exported my user defined reports from the old installation. After importing these into the new installation, all reports were put into an additional subfolder. Since I'm using german localization, the reports were put into "Benutzerdefinierte Berichte/Benutzerdefinierte Berichte". I could move them one folder up by cut and paste, but now I would like to delete the empty subfolder, but I don't have any menu options to do so.
Is there any way to get rid of that subfolder?
    Many thanks in advance,
    dhalek

    Hi Binom,
Correct. In fact similar behavior reported in earlier posts such as...
Bug 2.1: Report folders are read only
1.5.5 Cannot add user defined report to folder
...resulted in the logging of an internal bug:
Bug 9231534 - FORUM:USER DEFINED REPORT FOLDER MISSING ACTIONS IN NON ENGLISH LOCALES
I updated it with a reference to this forum thread in order to give it a bump.
    Thanks,

  • Application folder deleted on the User page?

I installed Steam for Mac some time ago, and when I installed a game, the icon for it would appear on the Application folder, but making the other apps on the folder disappear, but were still on a computer. And I'm portuguese, so "Aplicações" means Apps. The folder was originally called "Aplicações", but when I installed the game, it was renamed to "Applications", to English! So I renamed it to "Aplicações", but the other apps were still missing, so I deleted it, which = I'm a jack*ss... So I created a shortcut folder, but it has the shortcut arrow on the icon and doesnt have the drop down arrow:
What do I do to make it as it was before? Thanks...

The Applications folder created by default in your user Home folder - i.e. "bootdrive -> Users -> yourusername -> Applications" - is not the same folder as the Applications folder at the root of the hard drive, nor it is an alias to that root Applications folder. The Applications folder in the user's Home folder is a separate folder, provided for use by the user, if he/she wishes/ for applications that do not insist on being in the root Applications folder. It allows such apps to be restricted to being seen and used only by that user.
If Steam installed in the Applications folder in your Home folder and you deleted that Applications folder, just create a new folder (if you think you still need it) in your Home folder and name the new folder however you wish.

  • Delete user mailbox that references an old domain

We recently took down one of our two exchange servers and the domain controllers in our second domain, leaving us with a single domain and exchange server. However, our remaining exchange server still shows the users mailboxes from the exchange server
we took down. When we try to delete or disable those mailboxes, it gives us an error saying it can't find the domain controller. In the DCpromo down process, not all the users were removed. How do I clean out the mailboxes that point to the non-existent exhange
    server and domain controller?

    Hi,
You may try to remove those mailboxes from Active Directory to check the result.
To remove these, please perform the following steps in the ADSI Edit tool:
    1. Navigate to CN=Configuration [domain] -> CN=Services -> CN=Microsoft Exchange -> CN=[organization] -> CN=Administrative Groups -> CN=Databases
    2. Identify the Mailbox Database containers that belonged to the non-existing server and delete them.
Note: Please make AD System State backup before doing this.

  • Not able to delete emails from Shared mailbox

    Hello Team,
I have a mailbox which is shared. User A is having access on that mailbox.
I have added That mailbox as additional Mailbox. when i click on delete button or right click delete i am not able to delete that messages and from any folder.
I have configured User A profile on multiple system and in each and every system i am not able to delete emails
I am using O365 business plan and my Outlook is professional plus with latest update
I removed the mailbox which is shared and added that account as Multi Ex so i am able to delete it
I am running scripts in background so i dont want to add that mailbox as Multi Ex(By going into account settings and adding new email with credentials)
I have given full access to User A on that mailbox on the portal. I removed the access and then re added the access and then also i am not able to delete emails
    I have tried safe mode
    I have tried online mode
    I have tried cached mode
I have tried Right clicking folder for example Inbox and given User A as owner permission from outlook.
I have done the same method of giving permission from OWA
If i open Mailbox in OWA by logging in Using User A and then clicking another user's mailbox and opening mailbox which is shared and i am able to delete emails there.

Exchange doesn't do that.  POP3 is a single mailbox client mail retrieval protocol, not a mail transport protocol.
Any attempt to use it as a mail transport protocol is a great big kludge.
Exchange is designed to connect to the Internet using SMTP.
Small Business Server includes a POP mail puller, but I don't recommend it because, again, it's a great big kludge.

  • Why is my user/lib/mail folder so big?

Looking to streamline and access some space and a look at my user/lib/mail folder shows me it's over 500Mb even after a severe trimming from within Mail. I now have a total of 268 messages across all mailboxes, folders etc, and that includes a total of less than 20Mb of attachments but yet the mbox file in the INBOX and Sent Messages folders are still ~ 250Mb each. Deleted messages folder is empty and permissions etc repaired. Any ideas? Thanks

The only items within a mailbox (i.e. within an .mbox or an .imapmbox folder) used by Mail 2.x are Info.plist and the Messages folder. Any other files you may see there (mbox in particular) are almost certainly Mail 1.x files that Mail 2.x leaves there after the conversion. This is poorly explained in Mac OS X 10.4 Mail: Some mailbox files used by Mac OS X 10.3 are not deleted after importing. The article only talks about mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/, but the same can also be said about mailboxes in “POP-”, “IMAP-”, or “Mac-” account folders.
As long as you keep a backup copy of the old files for a while (at least, until you’re sure everything was converted properly), they can safely be removed from the Mail folder. OnyX has a Cleaning > Misc > Temporary and obsolete items option for getting rid of all those files.

  • Rolling In-Place Hold & Archive Mailbox Interaction

    Hello,
I've been looking at replacing existing Journaling with a combination of Exchange 2013 In-Place Hold and Archive Mailboxes, however I have a theoretical situation I've been having trouble mapping the behaviour for from the documentation available.
My theoretical configuration would be a Time Based In-Place Hold for all mailboxes for a 7 year period, with Archive Mailboxes for all users with a Retention Policy that moved all messages to the Archive Mailbox after 1 year (note; no Retention Policy to
force deletion of messages after 7 years).
In this situation I believe that a message the user reads and takes no further action on would follow the below flow:
    day0: message delivered to inbox
day365: message moved to Archive Mailbox
    day2555: message available for deletion
I am however unsure of the behaviour of messages the user has deleted within the first year which are in the Recoverable Items Folder at the point they should be moved to the Archive Mailbox, I would hope for the below flow:
    day0: message delivered to inbox
day8: user deletes message (moved to Recoverable Items Folder on Primary Mailbox Database)
day365: message moved to Archive Mailbox (Recoverable Items Folder on Archive Database)
day2555: message purged from Recoverable Items Folder
However my concern would be based on the description of In-Place hold that all messages deleted would actually continue to be retained in the Recoverable Items Folder on the primary mailbox database and thus end up causing issues with around the Recoverable
    Items Quota for the database.
I would be grateful if someone could help me straighten out the logic in this theoretical situation and help me identify if this general idea is a workable replacement for Journaling.
    Many Thanks

    Hello,
For recoverable items folder, we can set retemtion policy tag with action "move to achive". See more detail in the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297955(v=exchg.150).aspx.
Meanwhile, In-Place Hold allows the search and preservation of messages matching query parameters. Messages are protected from deletion, modification, and tampering and can be preserved indefinitely or for a specified period. See more details in the
    following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff637980(v=exchg.150).aspx
Journaling can also help organizations respond to legal, regulatory and organizational compliance requirements by recording inbound and outbound e-mail communications. See more details in the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998649(v=exchg.150).aspx
In my opinion, we can use In-place hold in place of Journaling to preserve the deleted messages.
if there's any question, feel free to let us know.

  • Search a users mailbox for a "missing" email

Is there a command line or script used to locate an email that a user claims was moved or never came in, yet the server states it was delivered?
I am basically looking for a way to search a users mailbox thru command or powershell and have it display the folder/path in Outlook where the message was dragged to accidentally.
I tried the Search-Mailbox -Identity "Fred Flintstone" -SearchQuery 'from:[email protected]' but I don't want to delete or export the message, just find the path where its located in Outlook.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Try this command:
Search-Mailbox -Identity "Fred Flintstone" -SearchQuery 'from:[email protected]' -TargetMailbox “your mailbox” -TargetFolder “folder name” -logLevel Full
This command just copy the message from source mailbox as attachment to target mailbox with full log level. Then you can open that attachment to see more details.
Note: we cannot use the EstimateResultOnly switch with the
    TargetMailbox and Loglevel parameter.

  • Email alert volume; Stopping deletion of mail from mailboxes

Hi--Is there any way to turn up the volume of the email alert on my earthlink acct, the account came with the MB PRo.
Also, is there any way to stop the deletion of mail from mailboxes I've created. You can stop deletion from the Inbox or whatever, but I lost important mail I'd put them in a new mailbox and poof they went, without warning, no advisory, ****.

    OK great.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • SCOM 2007 extest_ user mailbox maintenance/management.

I use SCOM 2007 to monitor our Exchange 2010 environment.  I use the test-* commands in powershells on my desktop to catch anything that may occur between SCOM alert thresholds.  Several of these use the extest_ account.
Today, I looked at the extest_ user mailbox and found that the tests are accumulating in the mailbox.  What do I need to configure so the tests are purged from the mailbox, including the deleted items folder?
Information, links, and comments are all welcome.
    TIA.

    Hi,
Do you mean that there are many test mailbox and you want to remove them? As far as I know,  those account is used for synthetic transaction tests for the Exchange. Those synthetic transactions will perform several tests on your Exchange infrastructure
and warn you if there is a problem with your mail flow. In order to perform such tests the requirement is to have specific users with mailboxes created.  Those users is created by script named New-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1.
Each site will have a test account, please refer to the below link for more details:
    http://stefanroth.net/2013/02/09/scom-exchange-2010-mp-extest_-user/
From my point of view, we can remove those account, but then the script can create them again.
If you don't create a test mailbox on one or more Mailbox servers, the Management Pack will return the following warning: “The test mailbox was not initialized. Run new-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1 to ensure that the test mailbox is created.”

  • How to delete the messages in the purges folder?

if the mailbox is enabled the single item recovery, then the messages would move from deletion folder to the purges folder After running the following script,
    Search-Mailbox dave -searchdumpsteronly
    -deletecontent
so my question is how to delete the messages in the purges folder with some script or retention policy?
Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!

    Thank you all,
As the mailbox is enabled single item recovery.
I just want to make the items neither in deletion folder, nor in purges folder.
So I think there are two ways to achieve this.
Method 1,disabled the single item recovery. then delete the items in deletion folder ,so it wouldn't enter to the purges folder, it just deleted permanently. then enable the single item recovery
Method 2,delete the items in deletion folder, then the messages move to the purges folder, then delete the messages in purges folder.
the Method 1 is not so good ,as it need to disable the single item recovery firstly, then enable  single item recovery .
So I want to use the Method 2

  • Cannot delete .PDF files from a shared folder.

    Hello,
I am having issues with deleting/renaming PDF files!
Permissions is not an issue as even logged in as the Network Administrator of the Domain, I still can't delete the file.
The error message I'm recieving is:  cannot delete xxxx.pdf It is being used by another person or program.  Close any programs that might be using this file and try again.
There are only 1 or 2 users that would have access to the files and neither of them are using them.  I can also reset the security permissions for the file and take ownership, but even after doing these things it doesn't make a difference?
I've tried various unlocking tools (Unlocker) and none of them report that the file is open or that there are any locks on them.  This only happens with PDF files. If I reboot the sever the problem will go away, but this server needs to be 99.999% of the
    time!
    Help please!

    Hi,
Windows is somehow accessing Thumbs.db during the time of the folder move/delete attempt.  Please go into Folder options > View > Always show icons, never thumbnails to check if you can delete .PDF files.
