Rolling Laptop Case
Has anyone found a rolling case that: 1. provides good protection all the way around the laptop 2. that has sturdy, extendable handles 3. doesn't cost $300 (Pelican). I have been on the hunt but no luck so far. JD [I have a GT70]
Does it have to be a hard case like the Pelican or will a good soft case do?

Laptop Case for 17 unibody. Opinions please
I was hoping a few here might be able to recommend a laptop case for the 17 MBP.
I would like a case that i can work out of and basically leave the computer in the case most of the time if thats possible. Ive Looked at the mactruck by radtech as maybe 1 choice.
My use requires alot of moving the computer from one spot to another so the thought of taking it in and out of case would shorten the life of the computer. I could literally take the computer in and out of a case 5 times in one day alone.
Any links or advice be greatly appreciated. Please do a search we have lots and lots and lots of threads on cases here.
With a mac, it doesn't matter how many times you take it into and out of your bag during the day -- so that should be the least of your worries. Whatever you get, makes sure it surrounds your laptop on all sides, including the top -- some trendy messenger bags for laptops for example don't cushion the top at all.
Good luck with your bag search. You will get lots of opinions. There isn't one single option that works for everyone, and some of us have spent our mac portable lives seeking the perfect bag and still don't have the one that fits all needs....
Companies that particularly cater to Mac portables include:
Timbuk2
InCase
Brenthaven
SFBags.com (waterfield bags)

Are Laptop cases sold separately and if so, where?
My wife has broken the outside of her laptop so the plug won't stay in along with seperation of top and bottom. The computer works 100% so was hoping to find a 'For Parts" laptop of that model or wanting to see if the laptop case is sold separately anywhere. The model is Toshiba Satellite C655D S5337. Is there a listing anywhere showing what other models are using this same case so I can expand my search for a replacement. The damage on it is significant enough that I can't glue fix anything and I do have the expertise that I can transfer all the parts between cases. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you have updated your iTunes, go to Store and click Music. Then click the arrow on the Music button when the cursor is hovered over it. No. 1 Hits is below the Complete My Album label. (This is from a MacBook Pro. Sorry if this didn't answer your question.)

When my power adaptor is plugged in I get an electric shock from the laptop case?
When plugged in and switched on I'm getting a buzzing type noise and vibration shock from the metal laptop case, particularly either side of the trackpad but generally all over the case.
Use the extension cord that came with the Mac.
Plug the computer into an electrical outlet that is properly grounded.

Is it possible to replace my laptop case ?
Hi everyone
I have been using the HP Pavilion Dm4-1050 ca for a year, unfortunately last time I dropped it and it's so terrible that the case was cracked. It still runs well but the screen now do not match with the body of the laptop correctly, and a small part of the cover of the screen at the corner was broken off. A tiny part at the corner of the screen also turn to black but it's not a big problem.
Does anyone know where can I purchase a case for the laptop to replace it, or can I send it to warranty even though this is my own false ? xD It's quite hard for me to send it to warranty because I bought it in Canada and now I'm in England.
I would very appreciate it if you know where can I buy it and how much it would cost xD
Thanks for your times and sorry for my bad English, I'm trying to improve that in the near future lol.

View Solution.Unfortunately, you will not be able to buy the case for the display through HP. (Unless you can find someone selling it on ebay). You will have to send the unit in for a repair to have the issue fixed, and since this is a customer induced damage, there might be a charge for the part replacement.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

How can I repair the minor damage done to my HDX16 laptop case?
I own a HP HDX16-1140US laptop. I accidentally bumped the right corner against a door and the plastic piece protecting the USB port, laptop lock, and AC port came off. It looks like the repair would be pretty easy, but I want to make sure that I do the right thing and don't risk damging the case or the ports itself. Would super glue be acceptable?
Plastic piece on
Plastic piece off
Metal piece slightly offSuper Glue is not a good idea. I would disassemble it and see if I could not get the pieces to snap back into place. Everything is held in with snaps. Have the snap tabs been broken? if so I guess you can use Super Glue but keep it as far from any circuitry as you can. Here is the Manual:

It does not appear that any of your broken off pieces is a separate part. All are part of the base. -
last time my keyboard was faulty and a keypad was fell out, then i took it to the service center, the people replaced my keyboard. recently i have noticed that the case was protuberant at the place where the keypad fell out last time, i dont know how to discribe this problem, how can i tell the service center and tell them the problem? or someone can help me about this?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
Take a digital photo of the problem.
Post it to photobucket or another image hosting site and link to it in a post in your thread so we can see exactly what you are talking about.
Your description sounds as if the laptop was not put back together correctly at the service center.
If and when you send it back for repair, include photos with red circles amd arrows to point out where the issue is.

I'm sure this is a dumb questions, but I will ask anyway. If I place my Macbook Pro in a case when I am at work or not home to keep the dust off of it, does it have to be shut down since it will not likely get any air? I usually have it in sleep mode, since I am used to my windows laptop taking forever to start up fully. I wouldn't be zipping the case up, just slipping the laptop inside.
Thanks!
Message was edited by: Jeff QuickleHi Jeff,
If the machine stays in sleep, no problem. The only issue would be if it woke up with some sort of malfunction, then being in the bag could definitely cause heat buildup. Even then, though, there is forced thermal shutdown around 100C to protect the Mac. I wouldn't want my machine to ever get that hot, but it should bounce back from such a shutdown (which shouldn't happen in properly functioning sleep anyway).
FWIW, over the last 20 years or so, I've left plenty of sleeping Macs in plenty of cases and never once had a problem.

I recently purchased a laptop with a screen size of 18.4", and weighs about 10lbs. I am having trouble finding any type of laptop case, bag, etc..that will fit a laptop of this size that isn't less than $150ish. Because of the size, and it's main use is for school, I'm looking for something that has wheels or rollers.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find such a "beast", without breaking the bank? Has anyone ever used a small, upright piece of luggage on rollers? If so, can anyone recommend a brand that might be more durable than others?
Thanks!Yeah..... Your Laptop that you have is huge beyond belief.
You should try the people that make SWISS GEAR bags.... they can custom order something for you.

Carrying case for my laptop and MOTU Traveler?
I bought my MOTU Traveler for the portability. Does anyone know of a good, protective carrying case for my MacBook Pro and my MOTU?
I have the same gear. I just use the Incase neoprene zipbags. (from the apple store, about $30 each.) I got the 17" laptop case to fit my MOTU Traveler. Works great for me.

Dropped My Laptop - Which Tests Should I Run To Assure It's Fine?
Unfortunately I placed my one + a half year old 15" MacBook Pro laptop on a new tilted notebook cooler (that has no grip), & sat them both on my computer chair while in use. To my recollection I only had the YouTube homepage open without any video playing, and Dropbox was downloading some small photo files to my laptop intermittently (that I was uploading from my iPhone at the time). I walked away and it suddenly all fell from a height of 2 feet. When I looked they were both sitting on the floor. The screen was in the same position I had it in (so it likely didn't land display first), & the notebook cooler was sitting to the left of it still connected via USB. I'm not sure that the soft notebook cooler broke it's fall (see attached photo), but it's crazy how it all landed flat as of it were being placed side by side on a table. The usb cord from the cooler didn't even yank itself out at all. My room is carpeted, but nonetheless I freaked out because it's a fairly new MacBook Pro, with a brand new 750GB Western Digital Black series 7200rpm sata hard drive (that I had just installed a couple months ago). The hard drive is obviously of importance to me since it carries a lot of my recent project/work files.
Luckily I have the original internal hard drive that initially came with my system. It contains all of the files I would have had a couple months back in working order. It's now in an external USB enclosure, because I had used Carbon Copy Cloner to migrate/backup an exact image of everything (data & OS) from my original drive, to my newer Western Digital hard drive - prior to installing it 2 months ago.
The first thing I did was inspect my laptop on the outside. I can tell you that surprising as it is there is absolutely no damage clear to the human eye that I can see on the exterior body. From what I've heard the MacBook Pro shell is actually made out of a solid piece of aluminum. The hinge when you move the screen still feels the same as it did before too. I have quite the computer skills background, so I opened the case up just to give it a glace over with my magnifying glasses headset and a flashlight. I looked at the motherboard over and over for about an hour to double, and triple check that there was no damage to the motherboard (ie: cracks, broken solder, bent usb port that was in use during the fall, etc). From what I saw there was absolutely no damage to the important parts of the laptop. I had opened up the case before, and it looked pretty much the same... The only thing I noticed damaged, were the 3 screw holes that hold the laptop battery in place (one is under a black leftside sticker). Such a minor crack on each of the plastic screw holes (on the plastic battery body, not the aluminum laptop case). They were very minor cracks yet still in place, you'd have to look closely to see them. Now I can't remember well, but I think the last time I opened the case months ago they may have already been like that. & I may have just left it as they were. If so the damage could have been caused by over screwing at the factory. I'm not sure, but if not the fall may have caused it. So I took the battery out and super glued the screw holes back to the battery body properly (see attached photo). I could not, and would not disassemble the MacBook Pro motherboard, & other device pieces for a more thorough check over a 2 foot fall. I just don't think it's warranted to do so, being that everything else on the underside seems to be fine to the naked eye. I guess it would be going overboard...
A quick factoid:
Apparently my MacBook Pro has a feature called SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor). The Sudden Motion Sensor is designed to detect unusually strong vibrations, sudden changes in position, and accelerated movement. If the sensor detects any of these, it instantly parks the hard drive heads to help reduce the risk of damage to the hard drive in case of impact. When the SMS senses that the computer's position is once again stable, it unlocks the hard drive heads and returns to normal operation. In general, SMS protection does not change hard disk performance with regular operation.
Also my new internal Western Digital Black series hard drive specifically states on their website to having "Rock-solid Mechanical Architecture." With enhanced reliability features help protect the drive and the data stored on it. As well as "NoTouch Ramp Load technology" - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit. Although I don't know if these Western Digital features apply to normal operating hdd use while powered on, or just when you have your laptop powered off (eg: parked head position when shutdown).
I called Western Digital since the hard drive has a 5 year warranty (unheard of). & I asked them if they had any software to diagnose the drive beyond Disk Utility's simple "SMART" status info in Mountain Lion's Mac OS X 10 (which showed up okay by the way). Anyways Western Digital does have software to do a thorough SMART test, and surface scan checking for Windows (which I have used before on my other pcs in the past). But they don't have one for Mac, and he suggested I take the hard drive out, then pop it in a pc to scan it. But I'm not even sure a pc would recognize the disk being that it's formatted differently in comparison to the pc standard of NTFS. I believe he said to reformat it as NTFS, but that would defeat the purpose of a faster scanning method, and leaving it as is.
So now what I'd like to do is use a program I found called "TechTool Pro 7." I'll install it to the original hard drive that came with my MacBook Pro (that's now in my external usb enclosure), and use it to run every possible scan on my MackBook Pro to make sure everything that appears to be okay - actually is. But most importantly to run a thorough SMART test, and surface scan on the newer internal hard drive that experienced the fall. Since TechTook Pro 7 does have the ability to do so on any drive. Ya, believe it or not newer Mac's don't have a surface scan feature in the OS. Remember the external usb hard drive is an exact 1:1 image of my working MacBook Pro a couple months back. So I should be able to boot off it, and install the program onto it. Of course I'd be turning off my Wi-Fi during TechTool Pro 7 use, to avoid any unrelated software updates from other programs while scanning.
I need to run a surface scan on this drive asap, and I will. I'd appreciate it if you guys would give me general things I should do to test all of my laptops hardware to determine if everything is alright or not. Let me know what type of things I should use to test all of the internal laptops hardware. Let me know what to look for... & how I should go about using my laptop for the next month or so. I will probably be doing tests on it every two weeks just to make sure it's okay until Spring hits. If everything is fine then, well it should be good for the long term - and have survived the impact well enough.
Thank You Apple Forum Users & Happy New Year
P.s.
If anybody knows what type of drop tolerance a hard drive can take (and survive) while in use let me know. Also I did come up with a couple of things on Google that supposedly can help. One is Apple Diagnostics, and the second is called Apple Hardware Test. If you Google them they'll come up, but I have no idea if these are for desktop style Mac's only or laptops too since they don't mention the word laptop. See here for a quicker view:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342in the future, buy this, this is what the Pros use:
for drops, accidents, spills, loss, or theft, purchase a TYPE of insurance called "inland marine insurance"
roughly $30 per year for a device(s) with 0 deductible, used same for over 20 years, same insurance the pros use on their portable devices.
very cheap, very useful insurance, most people dont know about same.

Looking for a protective case recommendation
When I bought my phone I was given a SwitchEasy Nude case, but to be honest I haven't even put it on the phone as it doesn't feel as though it would give any protection. I'd like something that would give good all over protection, but a lot of the cases I've looked at have had reviews claiming that they trap dust etc against the phone. Can anyone offer me any suggestions for a decent quality case? Also any advice for screen/back protectors (the Power Support film reviews on the store (UK) page claim it isn't great in terms of the display)?
Nope, I've been looking every where myself...I've resorted to just trying to find companies that have a good one IN PRODUCTION at least. Honestly, I had a hard time finding the "perfect" case for my last MBP (i bought 8-10 probably, a slight obsession I guess.) I am picky though; I want something that is padded and reinforced, but will also allow the MBP to STAY IN IT while I work, so not a sleeve exactly. (That is in addition to the INCASE hard shell that all ready was on it.) I'm not a freak about keeping it perfect or anything, I just travel around daily (freelancer), and I'm lucky enough to have a great roof deck in nyc that I rigged my wifi to reach... so it's outdoors 50% of its life. ANYWAY, long story short: if you come accross anything fitting that description let me know. timbuk2 makes some ok ones, I currently have this:

But I am considering making a leap to a serious one, a Pelican 1090. Check this out, I think it may fit the new MBP...

Procurement of services for fixing roller, which MM process to use?
Dear All
Have this problem:
1. Roller; procurement of service for fixing roller:
My senior MM consultant has suggested to use Standard Subcontracting process. However, the old roller service cost should not be added up to the u201Cnewu201D roller cost and it makes STandard Subconstracting immpossible.
Any suggestion?
Point will be given handsomely for any good suggestion.Hi,
You may use the sub-contract process for procurement of Service of fixing the roller, in case of old roller service cost, you may just add an additional line with item category "D" for service charges.
You will do a 541 movement for the line item 1 and subsequent GR for hitting the consumption account.
You will do a Service entry for the line item 2
During MIRO, the vendor will be paid for both sub-contract charges and also the service changes
Trust this will resolve your issue

Merwyn
