Rollovers with .swf

I'm new to Dreamweaver...pardon the newbie question.
Is there a way to create a rollover with and image and .swf
movie? Basically I want to have the .swf playing, and when you
rollover a box with text appears. Any thoughts?
And...if this is possible, would I be able to turn the text
on the image into links like usual?

It's not clear what you are asking.
What does the SWF have to do with anything? Where does the
box with text
appear?

  • Disjointed Rollovers with .SWF files

    Is it possible for me to create a disjointed rollover so that
    when I mouse over one image it will make another image switch to a

  • Rollovers with Pop up Menu

    The last time I tried to do rollovers with a pop up menu in
    Dreamweaver 8. It wouldn't work. So I'm searching for another way
    to do it.
    I created navigation using Fireworks - follow link below to
    example. But when I mouse over the rollover that has a pop up menu
    attached to it (First link on the left) the rollover images
    disappear. Also the drop down menu tends to hang down longer than I
    would like.
    Can my problems be fixed? Is Fireworks the right tool for
    this task?
    I had down loaded a trial of the latest version of
    Dreamweaver a few months ago and it seemed that this feature had
    been deprecated, but there was some sort of plug-in. I'm far from a
    casual user, but it was beyond me for the weekend I tried to use
    it. Also, this is a bad time for me to invest in new software or
    upgrades.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Example of rollover and
    pop up menu problem

    Don't use Fireworks to make HTML,
    especially interactive HTML. Fireworks is a great tool for
    making Web graphics, but it is
    NOT
    good for making HTML. Don't go there. You won't be happy.
    Read this:

    loads of frustration and go buy yourself a professional menu.
    What's your billing rate? At $20/hr a $100 professional menu that
    works, cross-browser, beautifully, is going to save you more
    than 5 hours of hassle trying to get this stuff in Fireworks to
    halfway...kinda...function...almost.
    I don't use these kind of menus, but I've seen this question

  • White border problem when zooming with SWF in PDF

    Hi Everyone,
    I have posted my original querry in the Indesign forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5176893#5176893
    I'm having problems with zooming whedn trying to create a PDF with SWF inserted.. at certain levels of zoom I get a white border on the left and right of the document which squashes the content into the middle and makes it a little pixelated.  I also get a thin white border on the right when zooming out.  Does anyone have any ideas where I might be going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Em

    Not wishing to be rude, but that workflow is not supposed to be used that way.
    InDesign's ability to export SWFs is intended for showing the file in a Web page, and Acrobat's ability to embed SWFs is only intended for small annotations placed within the pages of a conventional PDF file. By placing the entire Layout as a SWF you are in effect playing the entire thing as a movie in Flash Player - all the advantages of the PDF format are completely lost, there is no vector-rendering of any content or text, and users will find it very hard to understand what's going on (the navigation buttons in Acrobat or Reader will not work, text is not searchable or accessible, multiple pages cannot be printed, etc.).
    It's not entirely trivial to do this 'correctly', as at the moment we don't have full support in the PDF standard for all the interactive features that InDesign can apply to page objects - that's why they are grouped into PDF and non-PDF in the various selection menus in InDesign. Rather than saving as a SWF you should be using Export to Interactive PDF, and ensuring that the various interactive items and media are all selected on the export dialog.
    Basic stuff such as links and video will export just fine that way, and the PDF will preserve everything else in the Layout as native text or graphics so it'll look fine, navigate properly and be searchable. Animations and buttons will not work as expected, so you may have to revise their behavior if PDF is your intended output destination.

  • I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs. Why?

    I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs (just a blank area where the SWF should be). When I detach the template it will play the flash file. This site will eventually be updated via Adobe Contribute. And I just discovered that when applying a template to a page that uses HTML datasets (Master/Detail),it no longer reads the Master/detail regions and displays a blank. Any thoughts?
    [Moved to Dreamweaver forum by moderator]

    Firstly, you shouldn't really 'apply' a template to a page, you should create a child page by going to FILE>NEW>Page from Template.  Too many things can happen when applying a template the way you are doing it. eg:; editable and non-editable regions not matching up and being asked where to place these regions and in all likelihood, you end up with 2 or more of the same region.
    When a swf file is inserted into a page, a corresponding Scripts folder is written automatically is stored in the root of the site - it is also linked to in the head of the document. What I believe is happening is that when you apply a template to the page, the Template has no idea that there is a swf file on the page and is not aware of the correct link to the Scripts folder.  If you do a test and add the swf file to the template page itself, I bet that the links to the swf and the scripts folder are correct - because DW knows the correct path to the script file.   Hence the reason the page probably works when you detach it from a template.

  • Memory leak with swf generated by Xcelsius 4.5?

    Hello,
    I've experienced some memory problems with swf generated with Xcelsius 4.5. I'm using Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7.
    I noticed that every time I refresh my dashboard using the F5 key, the memory used by the Internet Explorer process increases (or doubles).So, in case I need to refresh my dashboard many times, the memory used by the browser becomes definitely too much and compromises my system stability.
    Does anyone have experienced this problem? Is this a memory leak? Is there a way to fix this problem?
    Thank you,

    That's the trick who does it, thank you!

  • How to save a flash with .SWF

    Hi, I have the 'Adobe Flash CS3 Professional', and I want to
    know if you could tell me how to save a flash with .SWF.
    When I want to create a new project, I can chose between nine

    I can't write the name of the diferent types of documents,

    Can you help me ?
    Thank you

    FLA is the native source format - make your movie and then
    publish to SWF -
    you can not create an SWF initially - SWF is the

  • Adobe Cap 5.5 on Moodle - publish without SCORM, with .swf files

    Hi,
    My agency is using Moodle as a training platform and I need to publish my captivate training files to Moodle.    We track training completion through assessment reports.   I upload two different Adobe Captivate 5.5 training files.
    (1)   the training portion with .swf (Raptivity) interactivity
    (2)   the assessment portion - published in SCORM
    I am able to successfully publish the assessment portion of the Adobe Captivate 5.5 in SCORM to Moodle.     However I am unable to successfully publish the training file.
    I do not need to publish the training portion in SCORM so am open to suggesions of the best method to get the training file with Raptivity .swf files working on Moodle.  When I publish the file it will work perfectly on our local network but does not work in Moodle.  I have tried publishing the training portion (1) with and without SCORM without success.
    Thank you for your help.
    Note:   Please see my post 4-12-11.   I was unable to list files in the imsmanifest.xml as suggested in the response - and wonder if someone could provide further detail/ support with this suggestion.   How do I add the other tags?   Would someone be able to provide a screen shot of these steps?     Thank you.
    Sandra

    In the dialog inside Captivate where you set up the path to find the video file.  By default, Captivate sets an absolute link, however, this path will be invalid if your video will be moved to another system (e.g. the LMS).  You have to alter the default path to make it a relative path.  The usual method is to copy the video file into the same publish folder as the Captivate SWF.  (By default, Captivate doesn't move your video file for you at publish time.)  If your FLV or F4V file is sitting in the same folder as your SWF, then you can just use the filename of the video file as your relative path when setting up the link in the dialog.
    I also recommend you ONLY use lowercase filenames at all times for Captivate projects, including the published file and folders, and that you NEVER have spaces in files or folder names.  These precautions will eliminate many baffling link failures when projects are moved from a Windows development environment to another webserver environment.

  • Page flicker on pages with SWF content

    Hi,
    In Dreamweaver CS4, inserting a SWF puts it inside an <object> tag and then there are some helping files. But I have read that for best performance one should also put an <embed> tag inside the object tag. The need for this seems increased when I realize that all my pages with SWFs flicker upon pageload and when googling I see that the solution is to add the "transparent wmode" parameter to my embed tag.
    But I can't do that since I have no embed tag.
    The SWF inserted is ActionScript2.
    1) Is there a setting in DW that I have missed that would create this embed tag as well?
    2) If not, what is Dreamweaver's solution to the flicker problem?
    (As a side note, when I publish from Flash CS4 and create a HTML together with the SWF, there is neither object nor embed tag created in the HTML, only a huge amount of javascript which I guess does the inserting dynamically. But that leaves me without clues as to how to deal with the flicker in the Flash-generated page as well.)
    Thanks a lot,
    /G

    Hi
    The embed tag has been depreciated in (x)html, and this is why the object tag is now used.
    As for inserting a wmode transparent, if you check your object code created by dreamweaver you will find a wmode in the code, probably set to 'window' which is the default, just change this to transparent, (this is included in 2 places, 1 for IE, the other for other browsers).
    As for the code created in Flash when you publish your file to html, this is included in the swfobject_modified.js file created by dreamweaver and placed in the Scripts folder.
    The 'flickering' is most often caused by invalid code, run your pages through the html validator, (not the one included in dreamweaver) - http://validator.w3.org/.

  • CSS disjointed rollovers with animation?

    im redesigning my site and for some reason my rollovers arent working. the top two thumbs are active.. nike and coke:
    http://www.toddheymandirector.com/SPOTS/index_2010.html
    would it make sense to try this in CSS? and can CSS do disjointed rollovers with animated gifs?

    They work for me, but you are not doing yourself a favor by letting the QT file auto-play. It will block UI interavctivity in many cases. As for you otehr question - an image is an image. CSS doesn't care whether the format in itself is animated or static.

  • Problem with .swf playback

    Hello,
    I have a problem with .swf animation playback in captivate 4. I created the .swf in flash with as3 on one frame. The animation is contained in a movieclip. I exported from flash and made sure the framerates between captivate and flash work. I import the animation to a slide and notice that the duration of the animation is .01 (could this be a red flag?). When previewing my captivate file the animation does not play it shows up static. I have my captivate file set up with continue buttons but I tried taking the button off the animation slide and it still shows up with the static what would be animation. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm really at a loss as to whats going on
    For bonus points: I'm still getting a transition that fades to white briefly even after I put no transition. Is their a way to just have an abrubt transition without the fade?
    Cheers
    -Matt

    Alright now it makes more "sense".
    Your SWF problem is caused by a bug in Captivate. I have encountered this many many times. Basically if you import a Flash animation and you have more than 1 slide in Captivate it will play to the end before you get to the slide with the animation. It's a really annoying bug that also occurs if you insert an SWF created in Captivate into a master Captivate project.
    There are a couple of solutions to your problem.
    1. Try and Externalize your animations when you publish your Captivate project. This can sometimes remove the problem. You can edit the settings in Preferences - Publish Settings.
    2. Create a loader in Flash that will pull in your animation SWF. Basically you just need to do a loadMovie shell in Flash and then have that pull in your animation SWF. I use this all the time for AS2 projects, but I guess that it will work just the same for AS3 projects.
    As for your fade in / fade out issue. Did you by any chance set a transition effect on your slides? Check the Slide Properties for a transition effect. If that's not it - is your fade in issue only occuring on the first slide? The "master" setting for a Captivate project has a default to fade in on the first slide. You can change that in Preferences - Project - Start and End.

  • Is there an ant task on FlexUnit to open browser with swf embedded?

    Here is the same (unanswered) question asked by someone else: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/740495?tstart=0#740495
    Basically I need to open my flex app in a browser window from ant, and the FlexUnit task apparently does not support this.
    I have downloaded a sample from FlexMonkey. When they (sample writers) execute flexunit in this sample, one of the arguments to FU is "url". However, I can find no evidence of this version of FU (that uses that "url" argument) existing anywhere. Using the swf argument doesn't work as documented in the previous question above. So I don't know if my problem is Flex version, or it's just not supported by FlexUnit.
    I'm using the Flex sdk 3.2.0 and the FU libraries below:
    flexunit-4.1.0-33-as3_3.5.0.12683.swc
    flexunit-4.1.0-33-flex_3.5.0.12683.swc
    flexunit-cilistener-4.1.0-33-3.5.0.12683.swc
    flexunit-uilistener-4.1.0-33-3.5.0.12683.swc
    flexUnitTasks-4.1.0-33.jar
    Please tell me if this issue has been solved and if so what libraries I need to implement it. If it is done for Flex 4.x, but not for Flex 3.2, perhaps you could guide me to the java source for the ant task for Flex 4.x so that I can implement this for Flex 3.2 or Flex 3.x.
    thanks,
    Phil

    @Linden - Have not heard of this side effect from anyone as of yet, but good to know.  Sounds like the file lock is coming from the Flash Player and causing the spawning process (rundll32.exe) to hang around as well.  The FlexUnit team runs on Hudson using the FlexUnit Ant task, but we don't seem to encounter the same issue.  What's the longest interval you've tried to use with the sleep task?  Does the FP ever release its handle to the test SWF on your development machines?
    Not sure this is a problem with the FlexUnit Ant task, but in 4.2 we could try to explicitly kill the rundll32 process since we'll have the PID when the task launches it.  Head on over to JIRA and file a feature request for us and I'll see what I can do in the new year.  In the short term though, maybe try upgrading your version of the stand alone debug flash player to see if that helps.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  Could you possible just move the clean target to be called before the xci-test target is run?  Just some suggestions.

  • Need help with SWF page transitions please :)

    I am having an issue recreating something I have seen on
    other flash sites... (For example on 2Advanced.com) It is hard to
    explain but I will do my best. I am advanced in design, layout,
    tweening, and am a beginner to intermediate action scripter. So
    even if your solution is a point in the right direction to some
    code I could pick up and noodle around with that would be great.
    That having been said, on to the issue, it's a 2 parter:
    Part 1:
    I have a Master FLA (or SWF) containing navigation that loads
    secondary SWF pages into movie clip containers for the 5 additional
    pages of the site. These load above the Master movie clip masking
    it (Navigation floats above) so the loaded pages are sandwiched in
    between.
    View page in it's current state here:
    http://sky.prohosting.com/tk421808/rwip/gallery_MAIN.html
    This works ok right now, but I have the SWFs replacing one
    another in one single movie clip container. What I would like to do
    is similar to shuffling 5 cards... if you want the 4th card down
    you pull it out, it goes to the top and slides over the last
    visible card on top. So I would like the first page clicked to
    slide in covering the master MC, the second page clicked, to slide
    in covering that one, and so on and so forth. This would be easy if
    the pages were linear, then I could just stack the movie clips, but
    since the user will click out of order I need a way to load one
    into MC_2 (on top), Then when another is clicked have the MC_2 SWF
    move down a level (Swap MC?) to allow the second to slide in above,
    and then delete the movie that has moved down into level one
    (Bottom) then have this repeat when another movie is clicked. This
    way it will look like the page you clicked is always sliding in
    over the one you are leaving.
    Part 2:
    I have no idea how to do this next part but... I believe it
    involves a gotoAndPlay. I would like to have animation in the movie
    that is unloading after the button for the next page to load is
    clicked... in other words, you have loaded a page, you click on
    another link, and before the new external SWF page loads, the
    current performs a gotoAndPlay where I have animated some
    de-constructing swipes that remove the text, shapes holding the
    text, and the image. ONLY THEN does it start to load the movie for
    the link it selected. I think what I am trying to ask here is how
    does it carry the link through the unloading animation until it's
    done and then execute the loading of the new external SWF of the
    link they just clicked?
    I pray this makes sense... If not I would be happy to explain
    further. :) Thanks in advance for any help!

    <<
    You don't use frames. I'd probably use Fuse for this - which
    is a sequencing
    engine. (www.mosessupposes.com) You can call a function when
    the sequence is
    done animating - using what's known as a callBack function.
    That'd be the
    best way, IMO.
    For part one, you could either place mutliple empty movie
    clips, or just
    create them using createEmptyMovieClip - which is a MovieClip
    method, and
    then load your swfs into them with MovieClipLoader. You can
    use swapDepths
    for layer control, in order to have any given clip move above
    another, layer
    wise.

  • Working with SWF files...

    We're working on an editor to post letter's to a blog, and we're trying to implement something that will automate the process of adding SWF's to the code. Basically what we're looking for is some way to read the width and the height of the swf while inserting it into the code. We have some Javascript that has been grabbing it, but it doesn't always grab the correct height and width.
    function InsertFlash(sFlashFile,id)
    var obj = document.getElementById(id);
    var w = obj.getAttribute('width');
    var iWidth=ReturnWidth(id);
    var iHeight = ReturnHeight(id);
    alert(iWidth + " " + iHeight);
    function ReturnWidth(movie)
         var movieObj = getFlashObj(movie);
         return movieObj.TGetProperty("/", 8);
    function ReturnHeight(movie)
         var movieObj = getFlashObj(movie);
         return movieObj.TGetProperty("/", 9);
    function getFlashObj(movie)
         try
              if (window.document[movie])
                   return window.document[movie];
              if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Microsoft Internet")==-1)
                   if (document.embeds && document.embeds[movie])
                        return document.embeds[movie];
              else
                                   return document.getElementById(movie);
         catch (e)
              //alert(e.description);
    Something to note would be that our SWF's are built from flash files in which the programmer for flash has found canned content and then placed what we need inside of it. But we do have one video that has controls, and basically a screen at the beginning that you press in order for it to play. When it's at this screen, we have the normal dimensions of 400x550, but once you hit play and the movie with the movie controls show up, it varies around the 2200x356 mark, the latter generally staying the same, but the 2200 will bounce around 2000 and 2300 pixels (all in pixels), so that's where we're beginning to get clustermucked. There's a swf file (which holds the correct measurements) a flv file, and another swf file with the controls.
    If anyone has run into this before or has a better solution, (using asp classic, no vb), that would be superb!! All we want is the silly dimensions... Hah!

    Connect is an AS2 applicaton, and therefore, AS3 SWFs will not work (or not work properly).
    If you want to correctly build an application to work in a Connect pod you need to follow the rules in the Collaboration builder, SDK documentation. This has not changed since Connect 6, thus the older version refference.
