Rome - is it on BTV or not?

I can see mention of 'Rome' in the current magazine and on the BTV info page on the PC. I cant find it anywhere on the BTV box though. Anyone actually found it - if so, where is it please?

  • DVD-Rom drive in Satellite C655-S5128 not working properly in Windows 8

I recently upgraded my system from Windows 7 to Windows 8. However, the DVD-Rom drive after the upgrade no longer works properly -- it now treats the pre-recorded disk as if it was completely blank. I tried reinstalling the Toshiba Disc Creator, but that did not work.
    Any solution?

You apparently did not use the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant in upgrading to Windows 8.  See HERE for DVD and Disk Creator problems occurring during the upgrade and solutions.

    Have tried Microsoft fixit
    Have tried uninstall and reinstall
Nothing seems to make a difference.

    Hi,
Try following the procedure under the sub-heading 'Let me fix it myself' on the link below to manually remove the Upper and Lower filters and see if this helps the issue.

  • Is DVD ROM tray broken? Trouble opening, not reading disks. G60-63OUS Notebook

My DVD/CD ROM tray is having difficulty opening (I need to keep pushing button about 10 times before it will finally open). Is this a hardware issue - do I need to replace the drive?  G60-63OUS Notebook

  • CD-ROM and DVD drives recognised but not working after iTunes uninstall

I recently uninstalled iTunes. The CD-ROM and DVD drives are present on "My Computer" but will not recognise when a CD or DVD is inserted into the drive.
According the the Device Manager both are working propoerly. I already tried Update Driver, Roll Back Driver and Uninstall Driver but continue to have the problem.
    Any ideas please?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm running into the same problem. My DVD drive can read CD's but no DVDs at all. I tried all the suggestions like deleting the System Registers and loading new drivers/firmware, etc, and nothing. This all started after installing iTunes!

  • DVD-ROM on Satellite L300-144 (PSLB0E) not working

    Hi all
I have a problem with my DVD drive not working.
When I bought the notebook 2 months ago it was working fine, After about 2 weeks the DVD drive started reading some DVD's and not reading others. I decided that I was going to down grade from Vista to XP to support programming languages and DB management tools not working on Vista. After formatting and loading XP the DVD drive did exactly the same. Now 2 months down the line it's not reading or writing any DVD's and not writing CD's although it is still reading DVD's.
I've followed steps on the forum for removing the drive from Device Manager and then removing Upper and Lower Filters, although I couldn't find any Upper or Lower Filters in the folder specified by forum users. I restarted the machine and the driver was reloaded without any luck. When opening the DVD drive in My Computer it is a blank screen as it would be for a writable compilation although the DVD has information on, even original DVD movies does exactly the same.
I've also tried recovering the Vista installation from the recovery DVD and it is not reading the DVD.
I've looked in the user manual where it says that the machine should have one of the following drives Panasonic UJ-870B/UJ-870F, Hitachi GSA-T40N/GSA-T40F, Pioneer DVR-KD08TBM/DVR-KD08TBF, Samsung TS-L632H/TS-L632P or Toshiba SD-L802B. However if I go to My Computer / Device manager / Nero Info tool it all displays the DVD drive as SD-L622A drive. The driver info is as follows Microsoft 5.1.2535.0 (2001/07/01) with firmware version T070.
With the Toshiba assits software the drive also fails.
Is there any driver update that will help or firmware updates or any other solutions available to me?
    Thanks

this tells me that your DVD drive is broken. Hardware defect.
go to a Toshiba ASP. I think your notebook is still under warranty.

    >WHEN A CD IS PLACED IN THE CD-ROM DRIVE SOFTWARE INSTALLATION MENU DOES NOT APPEAR
Go to My Computer and double click on CD/DVD drive. This should start the exe file on the disk.
Otherwise click right and choose Open.
Now you should see the content of the disk.
Here you could choose setup.exe or installtion.exe

  • Satellite P105 - DVD/CD ROM drive does not work

The DVD/CD ROM drive on my P105 does not work at all.  I've tried the registry fix for the upper/lower limit thing - didn't fix the problem.  The drive does have power, does spin a disk, but it is not recognized by the system.  It doesn't show up in the device manager at all.  I need to get this working and I'm hoping it doesn't need a new drive as this machine is out of warranty (of course!).  Thanks for any and all suggestions on hot to fix this problem.

Howdy folks. This thread has a lot more views than the one I posted to, but go here to the following message for a possible solution to your CD/DVD Drive issue:

  • Trying to install boot rom update on 10.7.3 - but will not

I'm trying to install boot camp and I can't install until I update the BOOT ROM.  I've downloaded the package macmini2011efiupdate.pkg and this coorsponds with my 5.2 model identifier.  I have already updated lion to 10.7.3 and I seem to think that maybe the boot rom update was intended for 10.7.2 and it won't let me install on 10.7.3 because it thinks it isn't compatible?
The message I get when I try to install the Boot ROM update is this software is not supported by your system.
    Sincerely, Kevin

Same feeling here... I am not advocate of mac. I bought one only for iPhone development. However the hardware is cool, it is my main home PC with Windows 7. For the OSX I left only 80GB disk space and the rest goes for Windows. Well, things would have been different if the OSX was workable the moment I bought it but it was not the case until this EFI update. Now I do not even think of get rid of the Windows.
Back to your case, what is wrong with your mac so you long for the update so badly? From the link you provided I gathered that your mini 5.2 is the one with ATI Radeon discrete graphic. Are there any problems with those? I thought only the HD3000 were so "crappy" because they were the cheapest version.
Anyway, if you slow down, do not expect too much, you will just gradually get used to the OSX philosophy. It's just different than Windows or Linux (on purpose I think). If you lunch Finder and Navigate to Application->Utilities there are the very useful things for start: "Grab" let you do screen capture and "Console" is like the EventViewer on Windows. You should lunch the Console, select "All Messages" and try the update again - look if there is anything logged from the update package which might help. You can also try to reset the SMC and check if that would help - if I remember correctly, the procedure is to unplug everything from the mini, wait ~5 minutes, plug only the power cord keeping the power button pressed for ~1 minute. The funny thing about that is that you have to follow it literally, I left the mouse and keyboard connected and I got wierd result - the fan was keeping at maximum speed. But try to verify the exact procedure on apple web, sorry I am a bit lazy now to search for it again ( I did it because I was desperate about fixing the sleep-resume problem). Anyway, again I would recommend not touching anything if you do not have any problems with your mac just because it does not want to "get something new". Just a common sense
Well, sory I just have scrolled up, and see your originall post why are you about the EFI update. It's really bad the Boot Camp does such check. It really does not make sense. You can do the install manually if you like, it's not so complicated. First go to disk management app in the Utility folder, and partition your disk formating the new one as FAT32 (the one which would be your windows partition). Next boot your minit keeping left alt pressed - you should see a list of booting devices so if you connected USB DVD (or pen drive with Windows - it's simple to do it yourself, just google for the recipe) you can boot the windows install. During the installation select the FAT32 partition and let Windows format it as NTFS and that's all. You can download from apple web a package for all drivers for Windows 7, and just install it in your windows. To choose which os you would like to boot, you can always do the left-alt select. I opted for installing rEFIt - it's really cool boot menu.

I just installed it today (twice actually, after changing my mind about something) so I can tell you how to do it. What I did was completely ignore Boot Camp and used Disk Utility to format the intended Windows drive as FAT32/Master Boot Record. Then I just rebooted with C held down and the Windows 7 CD took care of the rest.
I have a 2009 Mac Pro so all my drivers etc were on my OS disc. If you need to burn the drivers, by all means use Boot Camp just for that part
I got a warning in Windows 7 that Boot Camp had issues with the RC but it has been rock solid so far.

  • BIOS Problems With CD\DVD Rom Drive. Not a Filter Problem

My Hp Laptop Was Messed up for a while with ramdom 2 sec restarts so i had a tech guy that i know and it was fixed. sadly after a few weeks my CD\DVD Rom drive quit working and was not (and still is) registered in Bios. i reset the BIOS Back to factory settings and had some luck. i worked fine but then when i woke up the next day i was gone again. i does do this often but im getting quite annoyed.. can someone help me with this issue.

Well, I now have the same symptoms as described in this discussion group. I'd put the CD in the superdrive for iTunes to burn, the computer accepts it, makes it's whirring noise (louder than a couple days ago), nothing comes on screen that says its able to read it, and around a minute or two it ejects the CD.
These larger 24inch iMacs are NOT the easiest to lug over to the Apple store, especially if taking mass transit! I have not found any solutions described here that works ...short of apple support.
I am a rather tidy and tech savvy person. No dirty CDs, no warped CDs, no inappropriate force to the drive, etc. Based on the number of similar postings, HAS APPLE ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS A DRIVE DEFECT YET?

  • [Sol 10 11/06 SPARC on Sun Blade 2500] Could not determine boot disk?

    dear all,
I have a problem during installation of Solaris 10 11/06 Sparc on Sun Blade 2500. After I choosing "Initial Install" at "Select Upgrade or Initial Install" stage, appears the following error message :
"Note : Default install is not possible. Default boot disk could not be determined"
I have already concerned that the installation DVD is well burned, and the DVD-ROM is worked, but I'm not sure that the HD itself is well or defect. Could anyone tell me or figure out how would I do?

Most likely you have a disk problem. I think it may not have found a disk. If the install process left you in a shell, I would suggest using format, to see what it thinks. My guess it does not see any disks.
Another option from the ok prompt (also called OBP), is run probe-scsi or whatever the device type it. Check the options available at the ok prompt.

  • Problem to boot to an external cd rom toshiba

    Hi,
I can't boot to my external CD-rom Toshiba.
Its name is not present in the boot list.but it work normally when I 'm in windows.
I want to install Ubuntu.so I must boot with live CD and install ubuntu.
    Think to help me fastly

And why do you think this should work?
I don't know which notebook or desktop PC do you use but it depends on BIOS support.
Obviously your hardware doesnt support boot-up from external optical disc drive.
What do you need is MS-DOS access. That means you must start your PC in DOS mous and load MS-DOS driver for optical disc drive to have access to it.
    Pretty complicated.

  • NOKIA LUMIA 1320: Thai ROM no 4G

    Hi there,
Just a quick one, I bought a Lumia 1320 on ebay and somehow found out that the phone has a Thai ROM, which in itself it's not a problem but I'm just wondering if, being in the UK, this can impact the phone usage.
And eventhough I have a 4G SIM / contract, the phone doesn't offer me the option to go 4G
Is there any point in installing a UK ROM?
If so, how do I do it?
    Thanks.

IMO, this whole idea of disabling 4G on certain devices is stupid.
When i purchase an operator unlocked phone, I should be able to use it with any operator anywhere in the world.
Disabling the 4G option in "max connection speed", is not doing any good is it?
What damage could it cause anyway.
If the country/ network operator doesn't provide 4G, and yet the user stupidly selects 4G in max connection speed, the phone would simply fall back to 3G (or even 2G)
But the converse is not true. If the user moves to a country which has 4G, he cannot select 3G as max speed and expect the phone to automatically jump to 4G.
I say, if the hardware is capable of doing something, then you should give it to the user.
This is classic Windows. It does the same on the computer too!
The Windows 8.1, and the Windows 8.1 Pro, are the same operating systems.
Depending on the product key used, features are locked in the standard version
The actual explanation for this, not the pub-argument version, is the following:
When using a 4G/LTE enabled phone in countries where 4G/LTE networks are not yet deployed or still under construction, there may be issues with calls, SMS, or data connection. In worst cases the phone SIM may be rejected by the network.
In line with this, when a Lumia is purchased in a country where 4G/LTE network is not yet enabled by the operator, the devices are be shipped pre-configured to 3G network connectivity to avoid these problems.
If 4G/LTE networks become available later, it is possible to enable the capability with an over-the-air software update. However, unfortunately there is no information on when this particular over the air software update may become available for a specific device.

  • DVD ROM Empty

I'm new to apple and idvd. I am making a dvd of some slideshows I made in iphoto, I have the box checked for "Always add original slideshow photos to DVD-ROM" in idvd preferences. I imported the slideshows into idvd, and checked out the dvd-rom file, and to my dismay it was empty, I was expecting and hoping to see that the pics of my slideshows would have automaticly showed up there. Did I do something wrong or will they show up after I burn the dvd?

They should be there. Go to Advanced/Edit DVD-ROM Contents... If not there add them. I don't use iPhoto so I'm not sure how you'll get them in... Sorry.
