I was reading your answers and you know a lot about iBooks!
My original Problem is an iBook 800 G3 that not start up, not even chime or spin the hard drive.
Is my Boss computer (she is my wife too) and I´m the Technical Area Chief in our business. we realy need the info of the hard drive.
I tried all the steps you and apple recomend, (restore pmu, key combination, squeeze the case etc.) now Im just waiting from a day to a week and try again.
so I want to know if can put an iBook HD in a Mac mini (G4). could this work?
I can follow the www.ifixit.com guide for both computers.
Im living in Honduras far, far away from Apple.

I didn't even think about that. Knowledge Base Document #25497 has more information. If one started up with the Tiger Install disc on the Mac Mini erased and reformatted the drive, wouldn't that fix it? What if it was done via target mode before the switch?

< Edited By Host >My deepest apologies. My brother sent this Mac Mini out for repair to a company called D T T systems. The problem was a broken plastic ram holder. When that was done during a failed memory upgrade. We paid 325.00 the or something for refurbished Motherboard. However, upon recieving it we found through running the serial number through apple it is a Yonah processor 1.8ghz board. When I have a 2.0ghz core duo forced on this board somehow. I sent it back two months later I was assured it was the proper board and simply it was not. I now know from Apple's Tech support. The same board. What a joke. I am truly sorry guys for the trouble. Somehow it registers those specs with processors and memory. Yet the serial is the completely wrong board. Worst company ever. You guys are the best.

It depends on what country you're in and whether or not they're still available in the iTunes Store. Some purchased movies and all rentals won't be available.

5/2/2011. Thank you all for your replies. My iBook is in the third group of the website you referred me to. I bought it July 5, 2004 at CDW near here. It had OS 10.3.6. 1GB (GHz. Power PC G4.), opaque white case. Its screen is 14.1 inches. Soon after I bought it I had its 128 RAM raised to 640 RAM, to work with maximum capability for converting VCR recorded videos/movie into digital files and burning these onto DVDs. Later I had an Airport card installed. As time passed I opened the apple icon (upper left hand corner of the screen), and Softwate Update, and eventually had this install OS 10.5.8. At first It could only be updated to OS 10.4. But then after several years I bought Leopard OS 10.5.8 from the Apple store near here. By then Leopard had been adapted to work on iBook G4. Its specifications are described with the same Apple icon and About this Mac.
It will play You Tube and similar websites OK. But videos/movies from websites such as hulu.com, ABC, CBS and so on, it displays a pattern of flow-pause-flow-pause-flow-pause-flow and so on.
I thought first to see if this forum would have any suggestions.
I think probably that its CPU has reached its limit; later Mac laptops have greater CPUs.

Please help, Icloud may be my problem but unsure
all of my Outlook emails, contacts, calendar entries have been copying to my documents and to my applications. I don't know if this is from ICloud or what but it is a problem. My Macbook Pro is VERY slow now and takes forever to do anything is only 6 months old with all upgrades available????? please help. Also, no matter what i do my contacts on my iphone 4 are doubled and tripled. i have done verify deal but still nothing.
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -

If what you want to do is use your iPod as a hard drive to move files, connect your iPod to your computer. In the Devices frame select your ipod and in the frame to the right select the summary tab. At the bottom of the screen, tick the box that says, "Enable disk use", and then click Apply.
Now use Windows Explorer and copy the file to your iPod. -

This is my first day with my macbook. I am completely new about mac's and apple. I am using microsoft, xp more than 8 years, I used to it and today is one of my worst days.
I opened my macbook, try to understand and learn it. Try to find keyboad short cuts. for example I do not know how to open right click menu with my macbook mighty mouse (I also bought a mighty mouse, luckly ı can connect ıt)
I try to watch apple movie trailers from apple's web site. I opened trailer's web page and opened a trailer. I try to make quicktime full screen, I tried to find a way to open right click menu. and I used every keyboard key. when ı was doing it ı did not look keyboard, mybe ı pushed command key 3 times, or option key, maybe some combinations, ı did not remember, ı was just tryint to open right click menu.
and now, macbook's keybord has gone. when on safari's adres bar, I can not write anything. ı am very upset now, ı can not find any way to open keyboard again. which combination has locked it, and which will open it?
in microsoft, there is no such things, they told me that apple is better than it, but in my first day it is a great disaster.
please help me to open my keyboard again, and open right click menu, and how can ı make a quictime video full screen, please help.Open the keyboard system preference and go through the settings to make sure everything looks ok - and you can learn from looking at it rather than doing random things. Then go to the International system preference and set the languages that you want to use, etc.

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. I'm a computer ignorant woman and need help. I have an IBOOK G4 and I was trying to fix a problem in IPhoto (which never got fixed) and took some guy's bad advice to reset iphoto or something and now my plug-ins are gone too. Or at least the one(s) that were allowing me to listen to on-line discussions and audio recordings.. Can anyone help me? I have gone to UPDATE SOFTWARE and updated Java but that is all. It's like I go to a think were there is an audio thing to listen to and there is a picture of a plug in and it says something like "Plug in not available to listen to this" and then gives you an option to download plug-in but when I do, it says something like "No Plug in was found that was useable" or something alone those lines. Then it has a manual plug-in option but when I clicked that, I entered the frustrated crying zone. Can you help? I will so give you big points! Thank you!

I have posted a couple of times and no one answers me... someone please help.
it started towards the end of last year. I wasn't thinking and unplugged my usb photo printer... and turned it off like normal. and the next time i turned it on it gave me an error that the date and time was wrong.. at 1969 i think... i tried to fix it in date and time.. and tried to play a game. about 5 minutes into the game my computer locked up... and it hasn't been right since.
after being off for hours and turning back on.. it will stay on for maybe 20 minutes before freezing up.. and then when i try to restart it, it will go through the gray apple screen with the spinning wheel and go to the blue screen and stay there..
i have tried just about everything it seems with no avail... i've tried resetting the PMU.. (maybe I am doing it wrong...) i've been able to run disc utility and repaired it.. but it still didn't work...
i am trying to get all of the important stuff off of my ibook so that in the off chance that I need to whipe the HD.. I have everything that I need.. but it doesn't stay active long enough to get more than a few pictures

Questions and Suggestions
Work through these in order, if you haven't already done so through your psychic powers
Have you recently installed new RAM lately?
How much hard disk space is used and available (free)?
Check your battery charge state.
Run the computer without anything connected and see how it goes.
If it still freezes, Press Option + Command + Escape keys together and attempt to Relaunch Finder. Try it more than once.
Be aware of what you are doing at the time, does it occur when using a particular application, or doing a particular task?
Are you using the Classic environment?
Restart and reset the PRAM, by starting up and holding down the Option + Command + P + R keys simultaneously.
If it still fails:-
If you boot up from the installer CD, as you have done and checked the Disk, let it just sit for say an hour. If it shuts down it is a hardware problem, if not it is software.
With the Apple hardware Test CD, reporting that it could not work on that model computer is strange. Did you unplug all peripherals, including an ethernet cable, printer cable?
And did you hold the C key down long enough until the little picture appears (OK, you said it didn't get that far, but that is what should occur)
One hardware test you can do without the CD is download and use rember a shareware RAM tester.
If Software related, start up in safe mode, and use it for an hour.
If it shuts down it is the OS, if it does not it may well be a third party application.
Try these things, to help determine if it hardware or software.

Trouble during partition setting up bootcamp
as I was setting bootcamp, while building a 10 GB partition for windows, there was some sort of problem that required reeboot. After rebooting, I ended up with one partition only but 10 GB are missing. any ideas? thanks in advance
