Root Neo V on 4.0.4 (without downgrad)

If any one can help with rooting Neo v 4.0.4, without downgrading, some ppl talking about some tools but i can find nothing, i am still on 2.3.4 and i love my phone beeing rooted, so i want to find a rooting tool befor i update to 4.0.4,

I'll let you know if I see anything about rooting .62 w/o unlocking the bootloader, just consider downgrading and if you do want to downgrade just backup your current firmware it's all explain in my thread

Problem removing some apps on a rooted neo

Hi
I have rooted an Xperia Neo L successfully and installd root uninstaller. I have uninstalled some sys apps. However when I want to remove two applications "EA Games" and "Experiment 13", the root uninstaller says "Can not uninstall the app. An unknown error occured". Any idea about that?

Should the sd card be removed when flashing and rooting Neo V?

I'm about to flash my Neo V to .42 firmware which will enable me to root the phone. I just want to know whether I should remove my sd card during the flashing and rooting process or not? Also I already have PC Comanion and SUS installed do I need to install any additional drivers before rooting? Thanks in advance.:smileywink:

does rooting itself increase the speed of the phone or do we have to overclock it to increase speed?

Just rooting your mobile won't increase the speed
after rooting if you remove few apps that consume a lot of ram and internal storage would result in improved performance
But rooting may void your warranty

Can I re-enable SSL in Firefox without downgrading? When I hit an SSL-only site, my only current option is to use another browser.

Just hit an SSL-only site that I needed to access that FF 35 blocked. I don't see an obvious way to create an exception or re-enable it. We need this option... many users understand POODLE and can make an intelligent decision regarding the risks. TLS has its vulnerabilities as well.

hello ancistrus, as you know ssl3.0 encrypted connections can be no longer considered secure since an attack vector against them ("POODLE") has become known. please contact the webmaster in charge of the site and urge them to update their encryption to something contemporary.

if you want to re-enable ssl 3.0 in firefox you can do that - however keep the consequences in mind, that you will become vulnerable to the attack mentioned above: enter '''about:config '''into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''security.tls.version.min'''. double-click it, change its value to '''0''' and restart the browser.

How can I change JUST the root password, not my user's passwords?

I'd like to have access to this machine remotely and be able to drop files onto it's multiple users' desktops from anywhere on our network.
I can do this with a root login. I have enabled root, but I am unable to log in using the "Connect to Server" utility using my root credentials.
Is there a way for me to set up my root account so that I can log in remotely using a unique password? Not the password of the account I used to enable root?

You could do this without enabling the root account, via ssh and an ssh-keygen key properly setup.
Then you can use
scp file [file ...] [email protected]:/User/username/Desktop/
This is without enabling the root account, but rather having your account's ssh-keygen generated public key stored in the remote.system.address's /private/var/root/.ssh/authorized_keys file.
Or if you prefer you could sftp (but I find scp much more flexible).
rsync is also available to transfer files via ssh connections.

Root password changed

Hi.. the root password of my server is changed without anybody's knowlegde.
I'm now not able to login to this server. however i'm able to login to the sc> prompt.
Is there any way to reset the root password from sc> prompt ?
what would be the best way to recover the root password?

You should be able to get to ok prompt after sending a break from the sc> prompt.
Your zones should not be impacted except to be shutdown when the system is shutdown.
Find out who changed the root password and why so that you can prevent
this problem in the future.
You have a couple of recovery options:
1. Boot failsafe mode to either boot from a BE with a known, good root password or reset
the unknown root password by copying and pasting a known, good root password
into the /etc/shadow file. You can't reset the root passwd by using the passwd
command from failsafe mode. At least, I couldn't.
ok boot -F failsafe
You are prompted to mount the BE.
# export TERM
# vi /a/etc/shadow
# reboot
2. Boot this system from media or from the network, import the root pool and mount
the BE (if this a ZFS BE) and carefully remove the unknown root password entry
in the shadow file.

# export TERM
# vi /a/etc/shadow
3. Whether you boot failsafe (#1) or boot from media (#2), you should be

Fail to install a root Certificate on Q10

Hi all,
I have been trying to install root Certificates on my new Q10 however without luck.
1) What I tried to install were some root certificates (with .crt extension), in particular, one being the 'Deutsche Telecom root CA 2'.
2) I was a bit surprised that these were not including by default, nonetheless started to do it by myself, following the 'official' instructions found on this page:

3) Tried with WIN, with MAC, via USB, via WIFI, all I could achieve was to put those files on to the so called 'cert' folder on the phone.
4) When trying out the last steps (step 9 and 10, namely to actually import those certificates into the system), the phone did not seem to find the files I just copied!
Can someone give me a clue? Am I using wrong files? Not .crt then what?

Sorry to hear you're experiencing an issue importing certificates.
When you are in the Security and Privacy > Certificates > Import are you changing the Class to the appropriate one? As in Personal Trusted CA, Personal Client or Work Client based on the certificate you imported?
Do you see the check boxes to select if it's a VPN, Web, Wi-Fi or Device certificate for store?
If you have tried all these combinations and the issue persists then it is advised you contact your mobile service provider to and ask for a ticket be opened with BlackBerry Technical support so further investigation can be done on this.

K8N Neo Platinum: no video output, long beep and long wait, led 3 green

I have a K8N Neo Platinum for about 4 years without big problems. Two days ago I dismounted teh pc to clean and put a new HD and when I mounted again it did not work.
Problem:

I have already had some problems like this before with power failures but magically things worked again. This time was teh same. I got things working some times at random (really random lol) by taking power cables, reseting bios and turning back on but teh problem reapeared when I put HDD back and did not work again when I removed it. Now I can't seem to get it to display anything.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: sry I made a little confusion: It is a K8N Neo and not a K8N Neo2.

Do not attach PS2 keyboard when there is power in the system.
Do attach USB keyboards when you are up and running in Windows.
This is not it, but Logitech keyboard drivers often complicate things.
I do use a PS2 kbd but never had problems with it (unlike teh PS2 mouse). I do not think it's kbd fault because it won't POST with or without it.

I installed ePSXe from AUR and all of the plugins including eternal spu, however, I find that I cannot change settings unless I run it as root, eternal spu cannot access /dev/dsp without root, and I can't even save game states without root. How can I make it run properly in userspace?

That's because until recently, ePSXe's PKGBUILD installed everything with standard permissions--that is, executable files get 755, everything else gets 644.
It wasn't until I started trying to use ePSXe myself (I didn't start using ePSXe until version 1.9.0 came out, which included built-in `core' plugins, and so--although I was maintaining the PKGBUILD--I wasn't actually aware that things didn't work. Apologies.
Try re-installing/updating ePSXe from the AUR and that should resolve the issue.
EDIT: Sorry for the necro-bump, I figured it'd be worth it since this could potentially resolve this post.

As I found out the hard way, (or at least in my case), my Neo2 board did not like my X-FI in any PCI slot except the one closest to the video card. The result of installing it anywhere else was extreme system instability. Seems to be working well now that it is cozied up to the video card. Go figure.

How can i return to a playlist i stopped without repeating songs already played

The first step in troubleshooting that may be to identify the tab or page involved, then try Firefox with only the newtab page and the problem page open.
IIRC Firefox is intended to continue streaming audio even if a tab does not have focus. That enables users to stream audio in the background whilst browsing. What you hear may be intended behaviour.

Auditing file server setup issues - nfs permissions

I have half-dozen Solaris 10 workstations requiring Solaris Auditing enabled and audit files saved. I used a spare Solaris 10 system with 2-72GB disks and formatted 2nd disk for entired 72GB. I shared out the 72GB partition on this system and modified /etc/security/audit_control on a test Solaris 10 W/S to use the shared-out partition on Audit file server as primary audit directory. Following directions in Solaris 10 Admin Gde I chmod -R 750 the mount pt using the 72GB partition before sharing out the partition. However, all client W/S's that I enable Auditing would not use the 72GB partition on file server until I went back and chmod 777 the partition and rebooting file server. Also, on any client that I have enabled Auditng to use nfs-mounted 72GB partion on file server I cannot as a non-root user issue a "df -k" command without getting error:
df: cannot statvfs /var/audit/fmaud.1/files: Permission denied
Is this normal or did I miss a chmod step or two in setting up Audit clients and/or Audit file server?

The roundcube db schema needs to setup manually. See /usr/share/webapps/roundcube/INSTALL
Also, from your /etc/webapps/postfixadmin/config.inc.php:

403 Error running ADF application in JCS

Does it work without security ? Does it work with "BASIC" authentication ? Which browser are you using, there have been authorization issues with CLIENT-CERT on IE. Try FF and clear your cookies / cache before accessing.
