Root pass problem

im having a little problem with a centos machine i just set up... i seem to did something wrong when i entered the password, or im just plain stupid and forgot which i entered, either way, i was thinking if its possible to do something about it , at least with a livecd or whatever you can think of.
I just dont want to resintall the whole thing, its a P2 450 and it takes its time to install... but if there is no other way i dont care, as i didnt got to configure anything.

No, that's not a local vulnerability.  A local vulnerability would be a user account escalating privelidges.   This is considered "Game Over".  If an attacker has physical access to your machine, then disabling this would mean nothing.   When I forget the root password, I just boot any live distro, mount /dev/hda1 or wherever I can find /etc/, and just edit the passwd file.  Hell, you can even do it with an old slack install CD, or a mini distro that you can fit on a credit card sized CD.

  • Root pass and key layout problems

    Hello. There are two problems. The first is that when I use 'sudo' in terminal it is accept only my normal user password, not root??? Some programs like Shaman require root password.
    And the second problem - my layout. I have 'us' and 'ru' layouts. It is working by click to keyboard indicator, but when I press Alt+Shift, both Alt's or Win key (there is my config) is nothing happens. I have only original EN locale - maybe the problem is it?

    I was having problems with E17 after a fresh install (mixer problem, key bindings, etc), and I fixed it by deleting the configuration files at
    ~/.e

  • Dreamweaver 8 root site problem

    I recently upgraded to version 8 from MX. My root site is on
    my network storage, and never had a problem with MX. My image paths
    are all wrong and now have just broken link placeholders. After
    doing a little resaerch, I mapped a drive to my site folder, and
    now the images are back IN DREAMWEAVER. My problem now is when I
    pre-view a page in a browser (F12), the image links are broken
    again...... any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Actually, the two dots mean "go up a level". The first link
    is a root
    relative link, and it's the leading slash that refers to the
    root.

    It would happen in both, if you have temp files disabled in
    both. No doubt
    you had them enabled in MX and not in DW8. Check your Preview
    in Browser
    preferences.

  • Root.sh problem grid infrastructure 11g

    Hi all,
    I am about to install grid infrastructure 11g (11.2.0.1) on RHEL5.5 64 bit where i use VMware platform which is VMware server 2 on Windows2008 Server. I am pretty sure that i followed the installation instructions but i cannot get rid of the following error which occurs while i am running the root.sh.
    You can also find errors in the oraagent_oracle.log and orarootagent_root.log at the end of the post. There are communication errors at the end of the both log files but they dont give any clue to me or my knowledge is not enough to understand why crs is complaining.
    maybe this is a known issue or somebody can understands what grid infrastructure is angry about. thanks for any effort.

    H,
    in 11.2.0.2 you can simply continue running root.sh, since it uses internal checkpoints.
    11.2.0.1 is a little bit more difficult, since you need to deconfigure the run (rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force) to restart root.sh.
    Then when you did that, see this note for the further steps, how to call the missing assistants:

  • The Script root.sh problem - ora.asm and ASM and Clusterware Stack failed

    Folks,
    Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 VMs (rac1 and rac2) whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6 in VMPlayer according to the website http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
    I am installing Grid infrastructure. On step 9 of 10 - execute script /u01/app/grid/root.sh for 2 VMs rac1 and rac2.

  • Root password problem in Solaris 10

    Hi All,
    Have anyone noticed this problem before?
    I've set the password on Solaris for the root user as "rootroot123". However, I'm able to login with any password that starts with rootroot (i.e. rootroot*)...
    My solaris version is:
    SunOS mynode01 5.10 Generic_138888-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-240
    Is there a bug report in Solaris regarding this or any way to solve it?
    Thanx,
    Mahmood

    I think by default Solaris uses CRYPT_DEFAULT=__unix__ which limits you to 8 characters.
    in order to have more than 8 usable characters in your passwd, then you must use "md5"
    CRYPT_DEFAULT=md5
    this is located in : /etc/security/policy.conf
    I think you may want to change the password length in /etc/default/passwd
    PASSLENGTH= (default=6) change it to something of your liking.
    be sure to do a little more research on the exact steps, but this is what you are loking for. im just going by memory here.

  • Oracle 11gR2 RAC: Running the script root.sh problem

    Folks,
    Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6) in VMPlayer and according to the tutorial
    http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
    I have been installing Grid Infrastructure using runInstaller from step 1 to step 9 of 10 in both VM rac1 and rac2.
    Now, I am running the script root.sh in VM rac1 and rac2 as below:
    [root@rac1 /]# /u01/app/grid/root.sh
    Output:
    CRS-4123: ohasd is starting
    FATAL: Module oracleoks not found
    FATAL: Module oracleadvm not found
    FATAL: Module oracleacfs not found
    ACFS-9121: Failed to detect /dev/asm/.asm_ctl_spec
    ACFS-9310: ADVM/ACFS installation failed.
    ACFS-9311: not all components were detected after installation
    'UpdateNodeList' was successful.
    [root@rac1 /]#
    [root@rac2 /]# /u01/app/grid/root.sh
    Output:
    CRS-4123: ohasd is starting
    FATAL: Module oracleoks not found
    FATAL: Module oracleadvm not found
    FATAL: Module oracleacfs not found
    ACFS-9121: Failed to detect /dev/asm/.asm_ctl_spec
    ACFS-9310: ADVM/ACFS installation failed.
    ACFS-9311: not all components were detected after installation
    Start of resource "ora.asm_init" failed.
    Failed to start ASM.
    Failed to start Oracle Clusterware Stack.
    [root@rac2 /]#
    As we see the output above, rac1 and rac2 get the same problems. in addition, rac2 fails to start ASM and Clusterware stack. Thus, I have 2 questions:
    First, the common problem for rac1 and rac2 :
    1)Module "oracleoks, oracleadvm, oracleacfs" not found
    2)/dev/asm/.asm_ctl_spec not detected
    3)ADVM/ACFS installation failed
    Do the above 3 factors affect Grid and DataBase Installation later ? If yes, how to solve these problems ?
    Second, how to start ASM and Clusterware stack in rac2 ?
    Thanks.

    you have 2 options:
    1. OEL 5.6 comes with 2 kernels, the original Red Hat, and Oracle UEK, you can choose not to use UEK
    or the one i would recommend:
    2. Upgrade Grid Infrastructure,
    *11.2.0.3.1* (patch 13348650, released about a 1 month ago) supports ACFS on UEK (starting with 2.6.32.200 IIRC)

  • Parameter passing problem between TS-LabView

    Hi
    I am getting crazy with this problem. Basically I have a vi, in which you can change some parameters of a step type. I put this step type into a seq, open the Edit substep (the problematic vi), and I can change some parameters, respectively: Compare, Command, Command_params and MasterData (see attached image). When I press the OK button in my "Edit" vi, the parameters are saved into the TS variables of my step type, without failure.
    The problem pops up only, when I push the CANCEL button, I expect that all the TS parameters keep the original value. This is the case...except one variable, called "Compare". All the others keep the previous values, so Command, Command_params and MasterData are ok. "Compare" is initialized to empty string :-(
    Originally "Compare" was a Boolean, it was always initialized to FALSE, when I clicked the cancel button.  I thought that is the problem.
    Then I changed it to Ring. It was initialized always to 0.
    Then I tried numeric, enum etc, always was initialized to 0, or in case of string, an empty string.
    Why is it so? I attached my vi, you can look into it.

    Hi,
    In your first frame, you have connected all the other inputs to there respective outputs using local variables except for one, Compare and Compare out.
    Shouldn't you connect this together so the output picks up what you have inputed to the VI.
    What are you inputing into Compare, because if you are passing an empty string then that control seems to except the empty string, Even though you have the setting Allow Undefined strings disabled.
    I'm using LabVIEW 7.1

  • Multi-pass problems

    I bought Multi-pass for a couple TV shows (Daily Show & Colbert Report) because I knew I was going to be without satellite for several days. For the first couple days the shows automatically-downloaded ok, but for the last couple of days they haven't downloaded automatically, even though I can see the episodes listed in the ITunes Store. I've tried leaving and entering Itunes and the Itunes store several times, nothing happens... any suggestions?

    First, make sure that you're logged into the iTunes Store using the account ID and password under which you purchased the season pass. Then try the "Check for Purchases" command under the iTunes Store menu; you may find the episodes waiting for you there.
    If you're sure that it's correct and the missing episodes still aren't appearing, contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form linked from the bottom of their Season Pass FAQ web page (I recommend that you use the form, not the link in your Purchase History as they advise; that's not proven to be very reliable) and explain the problem to them.
    Good luck.

  • How to solve parameter passing problem?

    I have a report that can be place on any Portal page and it requires several parameters.
    The report is based on a query:
    select bldgname
    from building
    where (bldcntry = :cntry or :cntry is null) and
    (bldstate = :state or :state is null) and
    (bldcity = :city or :city is null)
    The LOVs for the bind variables need to be linked, i.e. State LOV is function of Cntry LOV and city LOV is function of both cntry LOV and state LOV.
    I can't use the Customization screen because it doesn't allow linked LOVs.
    I can't use a master detail form because I would have to create a table consisting of the 3 bind variables, M/D forms don't work with views. Since this is just one of 60 reports I have to do, it would mean adding 60 of these pseudo tables.
    I was thinking of placing a form, which can have linked LOVs, on the same page as the report, and then calling the page and passing the values of the LOV to three page parameters. Unfortunately, I need to dynamically determine the url of the page the report and form are on and p_page_url doesn't seem to be accessible from a form, although it is from a report, I have a TAR on this issue.
    So I wonder if anyone has an idea how to solve this problem?
    Larry

    Hi,
    Try calling the report from the success procedure of the form
    Here is an example which calls the report from the success procedure of the form.
    declare
    flightno number;
    ticketno varchar2(30);
    blk varchar2(10) := 'DEFAULT';
    l_url varchar2(2000);
    begin
    flightno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
    ticketno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TICKET_NO');
    l_url := 'http://domain/pls/reportname.show?p_arg_names=flightno&p_arg_values='||flightno||'&p_arg_names=ticketno&p_arg_values='||ticketno;
    call(l_url);
    end;
    Thanks,

  • Yet another "unable to find root device" problem (pacman issue) SOLVED

    During this night I've been trying to solve a problem that let me without access to my ArchLinux partition.
    Booting the kernel.
    :: Starting udevd...
    done.
    :: Running Hook [udev]
    :: Triggering uevents...done.
    Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/by-uuid ...
    ERROR: Unable to find root device '/dev/by-uuid'.
    You are being dropped to a recovery shell
    Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
    sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
    [rootfs /]#
    The thing is that I've read about chrooting, I did chroot following the steps described on the Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Change_Root but I have a problem with pacman and it's that I can't use pacman on chroot, it says: command not found. I must've done something wrong but I have no clue.
    My disk is sda1 and I don't use a special partition for /boot or /home.
    Thank you in advance.

    I've solved the mystery.
    Well, I realised that I had another serious issue with filesystem (that was mentioned on the Archlinux's news https://www.archlinux.org/news/filesyst … equired-1/ and https://www.archlinux.org/news/the-lib- … a-symlink/ ) so I had to figure out which packages were using /lib to remove them. Also I had to disable pacman's signature checking system because as I said before it didn't seem to work.
    After removing every package that happened to use /lib  at that time I eventually could perform the command "pacman -Syu" and later on "mkinitcpio -p linux" worked out.
    Thanks DSpider.

  • URGENT: Parameter Passing Problem

    In Forms 6i I am sucessfully passing parameters from one form to another. The problem is I want the receiving form to execute the query at startup. I cant run execute_query; unless the form is in enter_query mode. In a trigger execute_query cannot be run in Enter_Query mode. So I am stumped. Ideally I wanted to try:-
    -- Initailise Block Items with Parameters --
    Enter_Query;
    :interview.Position_ID := :PARAMETER.p_Position_ID;
    :interview.Candidate_ID := :PARAMETER.p_Candidate_ID;
    Execute_Query;
    Obviously the reasons above stop me doing the above example.
    Please Help

    Hello
    This example is base on the dept table.
    Please try this
    trigger ->WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE
    :GLOBAL.my_var := 10;
    trigger ---> PRE-QUERY
    SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('emp', DEFAULT_WHERE, 'DEPTNO= ' ||:GLOBAL.my_var);
    it works fine in my little example put the trigger on Forms level.
    Best regards Patrick.

  • Strange and fatal file name / root folder problem. Please help!

    Hi there. I wonder if anybody could help me!
    I am using CS4 but this problem still occurred in CS3. When I
    set up a new site in Dreamweaver I go through the usual motions
    selecting the local root folder and images folder. Then when I go
    into the new site it creates an initial site cache as usual. After
    this (when I try to upload anything for example) the cache seems to
    have disappeared (i.e. all local files disappear in DW). It tells
    me that I should go through setting up the site process again but
    this only ends up going round in circles!
    Curiously, when I look at my HD in finder, Dreamweaver has
    created a new folder named "Macintosh HD" and inside it follows the
    exact same file structure as the "real" local files except the
    website files do not exist inside the root folder!
    I can not understand what is going on here. I suspect it
    might be something to do with the locations of files and relative /
    absolute linking on the HD?
    Please help if you can! Thanks.

    What is the NAME of your hard drive? Does it (or any
    intermediate folder)
    contain unusual characters (apostrophes, parentheses, etc.)?

  • Two pass problem

    We have few accounts in essbase and scenarios in the same as part of dimensions in cube...
    The issue being when we retrieve values using smartview add-in in excel we get problem.
    The detailed expl being when we keep two pass property "on" certain members and "off" on certain while refreshing we get #missing as values on certain scenarios and values on other scenarios.
    when we switch "on" two pass on members that we didnt put earlier, the values come correctly unlike previous case and differs vice versa(on the prev case).
    This switch on and off doesnt solve the problem.
    So kindly post a helpful answer and revert in case of doubts in my question.

    This issue has nothing to do with Smart View, Smart View is just retrieving the results calculated in the Essbase database. Changing the order of them members will have no impact on weather or how the members are calculated.
    You might start with reading about two pass here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/dcaoptcs.html#dcaoptcs1409
    and then Calculation passes http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/dcacaord.html#dcacaord4127
    and perhaps Calculation Orderhttp://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_dbag/dcacaord.html
    Can I tell you how to fix it, No, It would be like taking your car to a mechanic and telling them it needs to be repaired and not giving them any information. I could spend hours telling you how to diagnose the engine only to discover you wanted body work done. Without know extremely detailed informatino about your database, the dimensionality, sparse/dense and formulas, I have no clue about the issues

  • Site root links problem in Dreamweaver CS3

    I am having trouble with links relative to site root when I
    work on my localhost with Dreamweaver CS3.
    I am building a site with PHP, MySQL using the WAMP server. I
    have a page ( www.site.com/index.php ) that I want to copy to
    sub-directories (e.g. www.site.com/about/index.php ) so I want to
    make the copying as painless as possible by using site root
    relative links (e.g. /about/index.php ). It works on the internet
    but NOT on localhost.
    Why is this? What can be done? Is there a fix if this is a
    bug? This seems like such a simple thing but it is such a
    problem.

    > Why is this?
    Because when your (local) webserver see's that you are
    directing it to the
    ROOT, it goes to ITS root, not the website's root (e.g.,
    htdocs or Inetpub).
    You can get around this by using virtual hosts (google it).
