Root site collection size

hi All,
I've run: stsadm -o enumsites -url <webapplication name>
and that's brilliant, but I need to know find information size on the root site collection so what it holds, and all the webs etc. it has any suggestions how I achieve this?
Thanks

Afraid not
so what im looking for is something similar or the same as what you get when you run:
stsadm -o enumsites -url <webapplication name> whereby it gives you all the sites under the web application with size owner etc
Now I have the above, I need to drill further into the root site collection as that's where the majority of my data is, and need to understand which area within the root is taking it up

  • Value does not fall within the expected range in my itemupdated eventreceiver while accessing a splist column on the root site collection

    hi,
     I am performing the below operations:
    1) Itemupdated event handler when a document is uploaded into the document library
    2) Now amreading another list which is in the root  site level so, i used spsite, spweb again and accessed that splist and trying to read single line of text column and user or group column.
    Now when i am reading this, i am getting the error "Value does not fall within the expected range".
    I went to resource throttling under central admin -->my current web appln and changed that value to 20  from 8
    even after performing the above, i am getting the same error.
    pls help anyone has faced this issue before.
    Accessing a splist which is under root site collection within the itemupdated eventreceiver is allowed in SP ?

    hello sir,
     as per my requirement i have to access a  splist which is residing in the ROOT SITE COLLECTION OF THIS WEB APPLICATION. the event receiver i have written is residing in one of the few document libraries within the sub site. there are hundreds
    of sub sites exist in this site collection. I need to access the root site collection within the itemevent receiver and access thatperson column from that splist. why i ahve kept this list at the root site collection level [
    http://server1:2020/ ] , because this  splist is the UI for customer's sp admin for performing  weekly tasks. like adding few items in the splist and my event receiver fires and check this column- person /group
    column ]  and apply permissions on the  document.
    so my doubt is it possible to access the root site collection from my event receiver code.
    spweb from properties web is just the subsite url and not the site collection. i want to get the root sitec ollection url's splist.
    also am already running this code under runwithelevatedprivileges.

  • Administered approve infopath does not work in root site collection.

    I  had deployed the administrator approved infopath form to 2 different site collections in 2 different web application. While it worked for web application A it did not work for web application B and threw infopath not being able to open the file since
    it was not fully trusted. So i digged around more.
    Difference between web applications
    Web App A
    site collection was not root site collection
    Web App B
    site collection was root site collection
    So i created the new site collection at Web App B not at root and tested and it still gave me same error.
    Web App A
    - Root had given read access to all users in domain
     Web App B
     - No read access to all users in domain
    I gave read access to all users in root site collection at web app B and forms started working at non root site collection but gave same error at root site collection at web App B.
    So i tried using the info path from at root site collection of Web App A, and even there the form did not work.
    Does administrator approved infopath form do not work in root site collection? I was not able to find anythin in net regarding this.
    If any one has any idea please help.
    sachin

    Any idea what the form DOES, and why it needs to be an admin approved form?
    I'm guessing that there's custom code, and that it's coded poorly and can't handle a difference (root site collection is just ONE possibility)

  • Extended web application pointing to root site collection, Can point to another site collection?

    I have a web application running on port 443 https with windows authentication, machine name is "localspdev" I have following site collections
    / (Root site collection)
    site1.dev (HNSC)
    site2.dev (HNSC)
    If I browse "https://localspdev" I get root site collection, which is fine. I can browse site1 and site2 as well
    I am extending web application to extranet zone with forms and windows authentication enabled, port is 443, https and host header is "extranet.dev"
    when I browse "https://extranet.dev", root site collection comes up, which I don't want, I can create 1 more extranet
    HNSC but how can I configure "https://extranet.dev" to open/link new extranet site collection?

    Hi Shafaqat,
    When we extend the web application to extranet zone, then the root site collection should be accessed by default with extranet zone URL.
    If you want to configure the URL https://extranet.dev to open the Host named site collection, then you need to set the URL to be the extranet zone URL for the Host named sites collection instead of extending the web application.

    for this..
    Regards,

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you had an issue uploading files to subsite using REST.
    I had made a simple code demo below, it will upload a file to Document Library after you make your selection with the File control.
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function uploadFile(){
    //alert(2);
    if (document.getElementById("file").files.length === 0) {
    alert('No file was selected');
    return;
    var parts = document.getElementById("file").value.split("\\");
    var filename = parts[parts.length - 1];
    var file = document.getElementById("file").files[0];
    uploadFileSync("http://YourSite", "Documents", filename, file);
    //Upload file synchronously
    function uploadFileSync(spWebUrl , library, filename, file)
    //alert(3);
    var reader = new FileReader();
    reader.onloadend = function(evt)
    if (evt.target.readyState == FileReader.DONE)
    var buffer = evt.target.result;
    var completeUrl = spWebUrl
    + "/_api/web/lists/getByTitle('"+ library +"')"
    + "/RootFolder/Files/add(url='"+ filename +"',overwrite='true')?"
    + "@TargetLibrary='"+library+"'&@TargetFileName='"+ filename +"'";
    $.ajax({
    url: completeUrl,
    type: "POST",
    data: buffer,
    async: false,
    processData: false,
    headers: {
    "accept": "application/json;odata=verbose",
    "X-RequestDigest": $("#__REQUESTDIGEST").val(),
    "content-length": buffer.byteLength
    complete: function (data) {
    //uploaded pic url
    console.log(data.responseJSON.d.ServerRelativeUrl);
    error: function (err) {
    alert('failed');
    reader.readAsArrayBuffer(file);
    </script>
    <input type="file" id='file' onchange="uploadFile()"/>
    Thanks,

  • Granting access to SharePoint Designer on a SubSite but not the Site Collection

    Is it safe in SharePoint 2010 to give a user the ability to use SharePoint Designer on a SubSite of a Site Collection and not give them permission, other than Visitor access, to the root Site Collection (Parent Site collection)?
    Most importantly, I want to make sure the only damage a user can do is to their own subsite, and not do anything that will impact the Site Collection.
    I created a test user and granted it FULL access on a test subsite and only view on the parent site collection and was able to use designer logged in as the test user.  I was able to modify the subsite pages and create workflow.  I was not expecting
    this to work based on the following statement in KB article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592376
    Overall, an user needs to be a member of one of the following groups at the site collection
    level to be able to use SharePoint Designer and modify SharePoint content:
    - Site Collection Administrators
    - Designers
    - Owners
    Does anyone have any advice on this?
    Thanks!

    I think I just found out why in SharePoint 2010 I'm able to give a user "Designer" permissions on a subsite and "Read"  only permission on the parent Site Collection root site and they can still use SharePoint Designer with
    no permission issues in the subsite.
    http://suehernandez.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/sharepoint-designer-2010-you-do-not-have-permission-to-do-this-operation/
    From the Article: "Turns out the reason for these varying behaviors is this:  In 2007, new sites would automatically inherit their
    master pages from their parents.  If you made no changes to that, it inherited right up to the top.  So it’s looking at the master page from the top, in those circumstances.  And as we’ve seen here, if you don’t have Design permissions to it,
    it doesn’t work.
    In the case of a new 2010 site (just a regular Team Site), the new 2010 behavior is to use the Master Page in the gallery it has in its own site.  And since the user is an Administrator (Full Control) of that
    site, then no problem getting to the Master Page!"
    Does anyone have any experience with this?

  • Get site collection url, site url and list url from a full uri?

    If I have incoming: only URI's of the format http://a.b.c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j/k/l/m/n/o/p.docx
    (And these are coming from multiple farms and multiple site collections) (and i have a web api on some remote server) (and have all the authentication details)
    And I want to query just the single the item via csom : check one column and if value="yes" then download the doc:
    a. how do i get the absolute site url out of it for " clientcontext ctx = new clientcontext(THISURL) "
    b. how do i then get the list uri out of it to push a caml query to to then retrieve it
    I could :
    a. strip off the filename, that is the easy part :)
    b.  I could paste "/_api/contextinfo" behind it and POST it first as a httprequest. Then first get the site and web url and later on
    find a way to find the list url (which is probably the first item behind the fullWebUrl), but it seems weird to mix this in the mix
    Basically im looking for something that tells me what is what in http://a.b.c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j/k/l/m/n/o/p.docx

    Sorry, GetList is only available in the O365 version of Microsoft.SharePoint.Client. If you could test for a root site collection and if there is not one then take the scheme ... + Uri.segments[0] and then get the context. After that you can use
    the GetFileByServerRelativeUrl. The following demonstrates this.
    public static void GetFileList()
    string fileUrl = "http://basesmc15/teamonesubone/teamsubonesubone/Shared%20Documents/folderholder/newauthor6.pdf";
    Uri fileUri = new Uri(fileUrl);
    Uri webUrl;
    ClientContext rootContext = new ClientContext(fileUri.Scheme + Uri.SchemeDelimiter + fileUri.Host);
    webUrl = Web.WebUrlFromPageUrlDirect(rootContext, fileUri);
    ClientContext subContext = new ClientContext(webUrl.ToString());
    File file = subContext.Web.GetFileByServerRelativeUrl(fileUri.AbsolutePath);
    List list = file.ListItemAllFields.ParentList;
    subContext.Load(list);
    subContext.ExecuteQuery();

    do you have any other web app in the farm, try to create a site collection over there and try.
    I would create new content DB, try to provison site in it and make sure root site collection created.

  • No information about site collection

    Hi All,
    I came across a strange issue where I can not browse the root site collection, I am also not able to see the information about the site collection, though I can see the browse the other site collection in the same DB.
    Any clue??

    Use PowerShell (Get-SPSite "http://webUrl/"). Does that bring any information? If not, try creating one.

  • Where does a sharepoint admin find the site settings for a mysite site collection?

    We are using sp 2010 service pack 2.
    When I look at another user's mysite, logged in as an admin (spsadmin2 is my daily admin type account), I don't seem to have access to the site settings.
    However, if I log in as the fundamental farm admin account (spfarm), I do see the site settings drop down.
    The site settings I see are not the site settings for a specific user's site collection. It is, instead, the settings for "mysites" in general.
    So, how can I look at the site settings for a specific user's site collection?
    I wanted to be able to look at their site collection recycle bin to see if something deleted was still there.
    Thank you!

    So, our mysites are associated with a web application separate from our other sharepoint sites.
    The mysites root site collection has our SharePoint admins listed as full control owners.
    The SharePoint admins also are listed as Farm admins.
    Because there is only 1 secondary site collection owner permitted, if that is the means by which someone gets access to the site collection settings and permissions, then it seems like we would have to keep changing the secondary owner quite frequently.
    You mentioned being able to set permissions on "the group" to have rights.
    Which group? The Personal Sites Owners group of our mysites web app? Or another group?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Managed path for host named site collection is farm level or web application level?

    Hi,
    I would like to get advice.
    I created a webapplication for host named site collections.
    these are my host named site collections (except http://sp2013) under my webapplication
    Root Site Collection: http://sp2013
    Site Collection: portal1.sg
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/research
    Site Collection: portal1.sg/intranet
    research and intranet managed paths are farm level
    all my host named site collection will be accessed by http and https except "intranet" site collection will be only accessed by https
    so I changed the Intranet zone for site collection using Set-SPSiteUrl
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/research") -Url "https://portal1.sg" -Zone Intranet
    Set-SPSiteUrl (Get-SPSite "http://portal1.sg/intranet") -Url "https://portal1.sg/intranet" -Zone Intranet
    Now I need to create "search" site collection for "Enterprice Search Center"
    My question is that for the "search" managed path ... should i use farm level or web application level?
    "search" site collection will be will be accessed with both http and https also.
    Thanks a lot!

    managed path for HNSC is farm level and u can have 20 managed path
    while managed path for path based is 20 per web application in your case if you are going to have a a separate web application for search then u will use web app

  • How to access site collection with a different name?

    Hello,
    I have a web application with an URL like http://testsite.  And, it has a site collection
    named http://testsite.
    Can I have another site collection using the same web application like http://testsite/site and use alternative access mappings to map it to http://companysite?
    Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi  Paul,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to map the non-root site collection from
    http://testsite to http://companysite .
    For your issue, it cannot be achieved by using Alternative Access
    Mappings.  For achieving your demand, you can create host-named site collection instead of path-based site collection.
    For more information, you can refer to the blog:
