Rooting US K1 --- this method wipes tablet clean

Hi I used this method last night to root my US K1 tablet. It took about 20 mins to do. This method comes from a user timmyDean. Read the bottom of this page to see more information :

With some help from (gallahad2000), I've got K1-V2 Root and flash all done. Please read the readme.pdf. Also, note that this tool will erase everything on your tablet. This tool will flash your tablet to the latest US version (K1_A301_13_13_111209_US). It is TOTALLY stock other than root(#).

This is TOTALLY stock A301_13_12_11209US with only su, busybox, and Superuser tools. This is what everyone has been wanting. Everything should work (Netflix etc), because it is the latest release.
WARNING: OTA's will download and install which will remove root. So be careful when accepting an OTA. I did not turn OTA's off, so beware updates will break root. I created a backdoor application that you can use to install a backdoor prior to installing an OTA. It is a script and it is in the folder called backdoor (you need adb working). Then you can use the backdoor to get back in and set back up root. But, this should be only done by someone that knows what they are doing. Also, some OTA's reset the entire tablet which also removes the backdoor. So, prior to installing any OTA, you should look at the update and ensure it won't break root and ensure the backdoor would allow you back in as root.
================================================ Flashing none US Stock ROMS ================================================ In theory, you could download a different ROM from http://download.lenovo.com/slates/k1/OTA/ and then replace the boot.img in the tools Image folder. Then, all you'd have to do is mount the system.img (which is also in the Image folder) and replace the files with the ones from your OTA. However, be careful because Lenovo changed the boot blob in 04_04. If you mismatch the boot blob, your tablet will just loop rebooting and rebooting. ================================================

Very interesting. I recently installed Avast Internet Security...part way. There were a few items that indicated the need to be root to get full functionality. I'm not sure I want to root my device. I had Nook Tablet and was pretty happy with it until the day B&N decided to block me from sideloading non B&N downloads. They took it back and for $30 more I got the K-1 at a Staples in Massachusetts.
Very happy to have regular Android Market. Am learning to like Honeycomb after using Gingerbread on my phone for a year plus. Not sure I'm all that excited about getting ICS and haven't heard if Lenovo will be doing an OTA update, or any other kind of update. If Lenovo doesn't do it there's always CM9...eventually.
I did root a refurbished Nook Color and install CM7 on it for my daughter and she's happy. She was overseas when I got the B&N "security update" that was the last straw for me. I emailed her to turn OFF automatic updates before she gets back to the States or she'd probably have the same fate as I did with the Nook Tab.
Is it device specific or do those OTA updates always remove root from any Android device?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

If your Mac is running 10.6 like your signature says, then the 10.6.3 upgrade disks will work as they contain the full 10.6, you need to hold the option key down to select the disk to boot from.
Once booted from the disk, Disk Utility is there to wipe the drive (use the Security Option > Zero) and then reinstall O S X 10.6.3 and then reboot, press the power button down to hard shutdown and the machine will stay like that to boot into the Welcome to Mac video for the next owner to setup.

Only by finding it.
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

Any way to root a K1 without wiping the tab clean?

The instructions found on xda-develop and rootzwiki seem to indicate that the tablet will be wiped clean of apps and data. Is there any way to root the K1 without wiping everything clean? I'd like to backup some apps and data in preparation for flashing ICS which Mark says will also wipe the tablet clean.

You might be able to backup the apps with ES File explorer, but you won't be able to backup their data - the android security model sandboxes apps so that they can't access each others' data - this is why root is required for a proper backup.

Picked up older powermac G4 from a garage sale. Can not do any updates because owner, that has now moved did not wipe it clean and I need a password to do anything. Is there a way to restore to factory default and make myself admin?

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
2. wait for terminal show
3. release keys
4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
5. press enter
6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
7. press enter
8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.

Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
   1. Reboot
   2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
   3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
          * mount -uw /
          * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
          * shutdown -h now
   4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!
Not sure is this will work on a Mac running OS 9.

When i try to compile

it says: "this method must return a result of type double", bit doesn't it do so?!?

Either you intentionally wrote it to work that way, in which case you should very easily be able to re-write it to generate a number between 1 and 37 instead; Or, perhaps you copied it from somewhere else not understanding what it does, in which case you should take the time to understand it before continuing.
Either way, as you now know that the first line generates a number between 1 and 100, you should be able to make a good guess at how to change it so that the generated number is between 1 and 37. If nothing at all springs to mind here, then I really genuinely do believe you aren't the kind of person that's gonna do well as a programmer.

while configuring Business Packager for Projects 50.3 fo, we made few changes in R/3 side as per the documentation. after that we are getting following error in portal
"This method should not be called anymore. The client was already released into the pool or the pool entry was deleted"
all the chages were reverted in R/3 system still we are getting the same error.
Can any one help on this issue....

I do understand that you want to have something like
killTheTreadIDontCareAboutConcequences-method, but
it's better to let all your methods that you want to
be able to terminate take a timeout argument, and deal
with the termination in the method. (Close the
sockets/streams etc that you are blocking on).
/KajThe point is, it is not always possible to make those blocking methods stop, via some magic "timeout" thingamabob. The bottom line is still that the blocking methods were written incorrectly to begin with (to possibly block indefinitely), so one cannot come up with an across-the-board solution, other than getting the root cause fixed in the first place. However, one is not always in control of fixing the root cause.

I am selling my late 2009 iMac, OSX version 10.9.4, to a friend, so I want to wipe it clean of my info, but want to keep programs to pass on to him, such as iPhoto, iMovie, Windows for Mac, etc. How do I accomplish this?

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) Using Configurator 1.7.1 and every time I try to update a supervised iPad, Configurator treats it as a new device, restores it and wipes it clean. I have it set to "Do not restore backup."

We are a 1:1 iPad school with iPad 2. I'm trying to update iOS to 8.2 and updating all apps as needed. When I plug in a previously supervised iPad, Configurator immediately goes into restore mode and wipes it clean and sets it up ready to "prepare" even though I've chosen "do not restore backup."
Because of this the student loses all their data on the device and I have to go back and set up email accounts again. Although I've had trouble with Configurator in the past, I've been able to figure out solutions but this one has me stuck.

This is might because of your prior change in softwares. so first you have to do run '''sfc''' in run command. and then you see the specific problem which causes this . Since System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.

I know this is possible because I watched the keynote address of Steve Jobs and he explained that since the iphone has the capabilities of syncing with your computer remotely, you have the power to completely wipe your iphone clean if it is lost/stolen, yet I have not seen any information anywhere on how to do this. You can try an alternative.
This is the quickest thing that came to mind, but if you want to wipe it with no care of the data on the device at all:
Place device in recovery mode (turn off device > hold home button + plug in to iTunes (WHILE HOLDING BUTTON)).
iTunes will give you an error saying it detected a device in recovery mode, you need to restore to use device. Restoring device is a factory reset. AKA a wipe of the device
