Rosetta Emulation Mode?

Does anyone know about Rosetta Emulation mode? How do I go to this thing? I have to use this mode for my browser to download and install macromedia shockwave player...but i couldn't locate it....

Your OS X comes with a universal Shockwave plug-in Do not replace it with the PPC version. If you download the most recent universal binary version of Flash it incorporates Shockwave.
Actually, the original poster is correct. Shockwave is still a PowerPC-only plug-in. Take a look at the following link to confirm:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=82216d24&sliceId=1
(Flash and Shockwave are similar, to be sure, but there are still some older education and business web apps that require Shockwave.)
That link also includes detailed instructions on how to configure your browser to run in Rosetta. Good luck!

  • Trouble installing Shockwave: Question about Rosetta Emulation Mode

Hi, I just got my macbook a few days ago. I can't access Rosetta Stone (language learning program) due to lack of Shockwave. I tried to install it based on the instructions offered on the Shockwave website, but I was unsuccessful. Here are the instructions they offered me:
    Rosetta Emulation Mode
    1. Quit out of the browser
    2. Go to your Applications folder and control-click on the browser application bundle.
    3. In the context menu that appears select Get Info.
    4. Under the general heading of the info dialog select "Open Using Rosetta."
    5. Close out of the Info dialog box.
Sounds simple, but I can't seem to find the "browser application bundle. A finder search yielded nothing. Please help; I need to finish Ch. 2 by next week (when school starts), haha...

To enable Rosetta in Safari simply open finder, click on Applications, and then find Safari, hold down the ctrl button on your keyboard and then click Safari, a menu will show up, click "Get Info" near the top, a Safari info window appears, check the box that says, "Open using Rosetta." Thats it! Hope this helps!

  • Rosetta stone via rosetta emulator

I am trying to run rosetta stone (the language program) online version and i get the error.
    rosettastone.com/online/code/current_version/Local/ENGlui.cct
I even found the file to try and force it to run in rosetta emulator but when I go to "get info" there is not option for me to force it to go through rosetta emulator.
I checked their FAQ pages and it seems that with the dual core intel it should not be a problem because rosetta would run automatically and decipher rosetta stone program.
    Any help would be great!!!

I had a similar problem trying to get the web version of Rosetta to run on the MBP. My work around is simple...
I am using the firefox browser and forcing the emulator mode. Then logged in to Rosetta and performed the necessary installation. I found this to be the only way to make it work for me. I hope this helps you.

  • Sound effects no longer play in Rosetta emulation games

While sorting out the data transferred from my recently deceased Powerbook G4 17", I accidently started up Audacity 1.2.3 which is a Power PC only version. It only partially loaded with its icon in the Dock but nothing else. I had to force quit the program to get rid of it and then deleted it. When my teenage son went to play his suite of PPC games such as Age of Empires 2 and StarWars after that, the game sound effects no longer worked. The background music still plays, but all the player responsive sound effects will not play, even though the settings to play them are correct.
I am wondering if the opening up and crashing of the Power PC Audacity may have stuffed up something in the Rosetta emulation system software relating to the sound output of emulated games. Before I consider doing a full backup and reinstall, does anyone who is a regular gamer playing PPC games on a Macbook Pro have any ideas on how to fix this problem. I was wondering if the Rosetta component of OSX can be replaced from a working system or if it is totally integrated into the Mac OS unlike Classic was.
    All advice appreciated!

+I tried to set "Problem solved" but got an error so will try again later.+
Thanks for trying and glad it fixed the problem

Sigma Chess is a legacy PowerPC application and therefore needs Apple’s Rosetta emulation software in order to run on Intel based Macs. This is pre- installed on Mac OS X 10.5 and earlier, but must be installed manually on the new Mac OS X 10.6. Please guide me

  • Rosetta emulation gone on iMac 20" (2GHz, 10.5.5)

A few days ago, I noticed that some apps don't work anymore. They all are PPC. Now I tried to open a universal binary file (iChat, Safari) with Rosetta (used the file information and checked the rosetta option) and the app didn't work either. So it looks like my Rosetta emulation is gone completely. But why and... where?
What can I do (except for a complete reinstall) to get it back?

    Hey Guys ...
While I was researching about how to run PPC games on my Intel Mac Pro, using Rosetta, I discovered that a file was missing. So after I replaced the file I'm running AOE II (a 6 year old game).
But it's a pain to do so but follow these steps ...
    1) Insert your Leopard Install Disc. Make sure it's on the Desktop.
    2) Open a 'Terminal' window and type in +sudo -s+ then press the 'Return' key.
    3) Enter your Administrators password then press the 'Return' key.
    4) Type in cp and press the 'Space Bar' (to add a space).
    5) Click & drag the Leopard Install Disk from the 'Desktop' into the 'Terminal' window & release. This will add "\" to all the 'Spaces' in the Leopard Install Disk Name and at this point the 'Terminal' command line should look like this ...
    +cp /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disc\ 1+ (no space after the Disc Name).
    6) Now type in this:/usr/libexec/oah/translate and press the 'Space Bar' (to add a space).
    7) Now type in this: /usr/libexec/oah/. The command line should now look like this ...
    +cp /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disc\ 1/usr/libexec/oah/translate /usr/libexec/oah/+
    8) Now press the 'Return' key.
    9) If you receive an error then recheck the command line by pressing the up arrow key.
    10) If all went well then type in 'exit' and press the 'Return' key then close the 'Terminal' window.
    11) Run 'Disk Utility' to verify & set the required permissions.
Your PPC apps should run OK now.
    Good Luck.

  • Changing Emulation Mode

My bank just started offering Mobile Banking but it's not working on my phone. I keep getting an error message and when I talked to the person at the bank, they sent me a troubleshooting guide from the mobile banking provider. It said to enable javascript which I did and says to change the emulation mode from BlackBerry. When I go to Options -> Browser Configuration it shows the emulation mode as BlackBerry, but I can't change it. If I highlight it and scroll left or right, it doesn't change and if I press on the scrollball, it brings up a menu of Call Voice Mail, Restore Defaults, Save Options, Switch Application and Close. Am I missing something to be able to change the emulation mode? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Websites can be coded to perform better with some browsers rather than others. The BB Browser can appear to websites as several different things...that setting is not where you were looking...rather, from within the Browser App, (BBKey > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser Identification). Changing that to another browser might help your BB interact better with some websites. In combination with all of the other configuration settings, you need to find the combination of all of these settings that works best for the sites you are visiting. Sadly, there is no "best advice" to give as each persons needs are different. But, I typically find that changing the Browser Identification often helps -- most often by changing to FF or IE (if those are available to you...the options vary by carrier).
    Good luck!

  • Unrecognised emulation mode

I have a LPC 229x evaluation board. I wrote a simple application with labview. It sends "Hello world" string to serial port.
When I build the project I get this error message:
    Linker error occurred
    /opt/ecos/gnutools/arm-elf/bin/arm-elf-ld: unrecognised emulation mode: structure-size-boundary=8
    cported emulations: armelf
    What's wrong here?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
LabVIEW Embedded passes this option to the linker: '-mstructure-size-boundary=8'. Apparently, the linker got confused with this option. It would help if we could find out the version you have of arm-elf-gcc (use 'arm-elf-gcc -v' in a console). Also, set a breakpoint in 'LEP_ecos_Phytec_LPC229x_ScriptLinker.vi' and capture the command passed to the linker so we can take a look at it. The command is passed into the Sys Exec Wrap VI as a string.

  • Rosetta emulated apps unstable

Has anyone experienced instability with non-universal apps emulated with Rosetta? I'm finding my new iMac to be a bit unstable compared to my old G4 mac.
The app freezes, force quite does not work either resulting in needing to hard restart the computer.
Have been trying to find out why this otherwise awesome computer is glitchy at times.

Having very similar problems with iPad One...    Many of my apps now close automatically after only being open for a minute or two..  Extremely frustrating...  Yesterday it took over 2 minutes for my calendar to open, always has been near instant on...
Web has turn into an snail paced experience...   Wifi is not the issue...  Speednet test show ping 21 ms, upload 3.92 Mbps and download at 18.77 Mbps..
Biggest technical issue I have found is RAM useage...  Open up a few apps, mail, calendar, USA Today and my free RAM drops below 5 mb, which clearly makes the whole IPAD system unstable...
I use to be able have 20+ apps and NEVER have RAM issues...  Something in IOS 5 is driving this issue...
I did have iCloud on the iPad, but that completely destroyed my calendar and address apps, plus brought total chaos to my other Apple hardware (iMac, Mac Air, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS)... Took many hours to delete it...   There could be some lingering issues on the iPad with its tie in to IOS 5...
Clearly the release of iCloud & IOS 5 were premature & we have turned into beta testers,,

  • SmartForms w/ Printronix SL4M RFID printer in Zebra emulation mode

Trying to get a basic Smartform to print using a new printer. It is a Printronix SL4M RFID printer that emulates several printer modes, including Zebra.
The printer was changed to Zebra mode, device type in SAP is LZEB2. Configuration printout on the printer shows it in Zebra mode and using a 203 dpi printer head. Configuration is all defaults (command prefix, label prefix, etc).
Output generates in SAP. Spool is ok. Print preview is ok. Completes with no errors in SAP. Physical printer is giving intermittent results. Usually, no output at all. One time, we got half a label that actually contained valid data. Sometimes we get "invalid data" messages on the printer. Last test spit out two blank labels.
Unfortunately the printer is in Germany and I am in the US. Going to try to change the printer to "ZGL QUIET". This is supposed to print out the ZPL code as text. Want to see if any control characters are getting changed. Also checking settings that are code page/language specific.
    Looking for any suggestions. Thanks.
    Norm

Gave up with SmartForms using the Zebra device type LZEB2. It was going to a Printronix printer that emulates a Zebra. Was not sure if it would work and had to move on. Will go back later and attempt.
Also, Printronix provides SAP device types for use through SmartForms. Others have used successfully. We had problems installing at our current release level.
Switched to SAPscript. Had issues with ZPL control characters being substituted in the default European configuration on the physical printer. Made changes and had some success.
Using one of the international character sets seems to be working.
    European character set #300 - Latin 2 8859-2.
It does not replace the Zebra control characters for caret and tilda.
It also does not seem to replace the Printronix control characters caret, left and right curly brackets.
Added commands to the SAPscript layout set. Still need to perform some additional testing, but last tests were successful.
    ZPL II command
    ^CI300
    Printronix PGL command
    ^i300^-

  • Anyone having problems using Photoshop CS2 in emulator mode?

I am about to purchase a new iMAC 20 and I'm concerned about being able to use Photoshop on this machine.
Anyone having a good experience with that setup?
    Thanks,
    Lou

Thanks really appreciate the response. I will be getting mine with an additional 2GB so I'm hoping it runs as fast as possible given that RAM limitation. I'm disappointed that there is a 2GB limit since I was hoping to buy a machine with at least 4GB. But my only other option was a G5 and I couldn't see spending the money for a fully blown G5 when the newer iMAC may serve me just fine. The higher end PCs are just as expensive anyway and I don't want to stay with PCs - need a change!
Most of what I do is photo editing and presentation. I'm a photographer so I need to have lots of good processing software for working on photos and creating slideshows, albums, etc. I have been a little concerned as to the ability of the iMAC for this kind of work. But, so far the people I know who have them really like them.
    Thanks,

  • Photoshop 7 faster than CS 3 on Mac Intel .....

How come Photoshop 7 running on a MacIntel so via Rosetta emulation mode is really really quite faster than the CS 3 which is native !!
It clearly shows the lack oof optimisation of adobe softwares and that after each update they are becoming more and more gaz factories !!
It is clear that softwares with competitors are really better than others, the flagrant exemple of Lightroom vs Aperture !
    Plus the prices ...
CS 3 Standard Edition is in Europe 2032 vs 1199 $ in Northern America reported in US $ 2985 $ vs 1199 $ !!! European customers have to pay 2,5 the price for the same crap !!
It is clearly that you take your customers for pigeons !!
Thank you i tried CS 3 the slowlyness and the few more feature will not justify to pay 2,5 more !!

But its it faster than CS3 on an Intel Mac with Leopard.
You also have clearly confused the people here on the forums (OTHER USERS) with Adobe.
Also instead of getting mad at Adobe in America Maybe you should be asking why Adobe distributers in your part of the world see the need to jack the price up. I have a feeling it has more to greed on your end than our end.
    >i tried CS 3 the slowlyness and the few more feature will not justify to pay 2,5 more !!
Well if you really do own Photoshop 7 instead of just a pirate copy you might want to upgrade now as Adobe's policy world wide is 3 versions back. As soon CS4 is released you will no longer be eligible for upgrade pricing.

  • Does 'software update' also update the display drivers?

Does the iMac software update also update the graphics card drivers, or am I better off trying to install them manually?
My iMac has the Nvide 7600 GT display. I'm having a display issue with Adobe Dreamweaver 8, and I suspect it is an issue with my graphics card. I don't know how to tell if my graphics card driver s/w is up-to-date or whether I am better manually installing the driver?

If the app is a PPC program it will always run in Rosetta emulation mode on an intel mac. You can choose to run universal apps in rosetta emulation if you want, but it usually sacrifices performance (program will run slower). To check this, go into the apps folder, command click on the app and select get info. It will tell you what kind of app it is, universal or PPC. For universal apps you have an option to run in rosetta. Check that box and the next time you start that app it will run in rosetta emulation mode. Again, this will result in some performance loss for that app, and it isn't necessary to run the app. So, that being said, I don't know why you would need to do that. Maybe someone else here can answer that question.

  • Green Screen/Special Characters

Hey everybody, is it possible to edit green screen footage in iMovie. I can do it in Final Cut Pro fine, but I wasn't sure if I could do it in iMovie or not. Also, I am having problems being able to insert the special characters from the Edit pull-down menu. Any help with either is appreciated. Thanks.

This Stupendous Software iMovie plug-in will handle green-screening.
Note, though, that it appears to be for the earlier generation of PowerPC Macs, not Intel Macs ..and you don't say which Mac you have.
It should run on an Intel Mac, but it may automatically start iMovie in 'Rosetta' emulation mode, so iMovie may run a bit slower than normal, if you have an Intel Mac.
