Rosetta Stone microphone problem

I am trying to use Rosetta Stone 3.4.5.  I have a logitech microphone (not headphones) plugged into the mic in plug in the back of the mini.  The microphone will sometimes make it through the test, but when I get into the lesson it does not work.  I've googled for a solution, but everything I read seems related to macbooks and conflicts between the built-in mic and and the line in mic.  Suggestions?
Running Lion 10.7.3

My microphone input tested fine for Rosetta Stone but the program would not recognize my voice input during lessons. I stumbled across this:
https://resources.rosettastone.com/assets/ce/1337093021/assets/pdfs/headset_guid es/ENG.pdf
On page 3 it says you have to go into your system preferences>other>Flash Player>Camera and Mike>Camera and Mike Setting by Site> and hit the + to add the following for permission
resources.rosettastone.com and Alow it.
After I did this everything worked fine.

  • My new iMac's internal microphone is not being recognized by other applications (such as Skype or rosetta stone)?

I just bought a new iMac.  I'm having trouble with the internal microphone.  I went to systems preferences> sound, and checked the input levels.  The computer shows recieved sound from internal microphone and a USB connected microphone.  However, no one on Skype can hear me, and microphone isn't recognized while using rosetta stone.  Does anyone know what could be the problem with my internal mic?

I did get an answer to my problem.  It was specifically with skype and Rossetta Stone.  I had to re-install the apps and then do the general upgrade.  It fixed the problem.  Works fine now.

  • Trouble with Microphone with a Satellite A505-S6033--Rosetta Stone & Skype

    Hello all,
I initially noticed my problem with Rosetta Stone.  Rosetta Stone has you repeat various phrases of the language your studying into the microphone and it will judge you based on pronunciation and your accent and allow you to pass through to the next segment.  My microphone would sometimes give me a correct, and sometimes not...it was extremely inconsistant and completely frustrating.  I've tried the onboard microphone as well as several different headsets w/ microphone attachments to no avail.
I then began to think the files may had been corrupted, or something, and after numerous attempts to re-install Rosetta Stone software, decided to try the software on a friend's computer which worked flawlessly.  I also received complaints from friends when using Skype that the microphone would randomly cut in/out.  If there are any solutions to this problem, please help me....It's quite frustrating. I'm considering returning what is otherwise an outstanding laptop.  Please help! I've narrowed the culprit down--and its 100% Certainly something with the laptop.

Won't hurt to reinstall this driver. Occasionally corruption creeps in.

  • Office for Mac/Rosetta Stone problems

I have the rosetta stone application on my macbook. After I loaded Office for Mac, I can no longer access the rosetta stone ap. Anyone out there have similar problems? (I posted here because I found no other appropriate discussion.)

BTW: There was an issue about six months ago with the now withdrawn Java 6 developer preview for Tiger, which somehow managed to stop all Rosetta applications from working.
This is a different issue. Rosetta Stone is an actual application for learning languages on your Mac (or PC). It's not related to Apple's "Rosetta" technology that allows Intel-based Macs to run PowerPC applications.

  • Rosetta Stone headset with microphone

I just purchased Rosetta Stone a month ago and I'm using on my Macbook Air for the first time.  What do I have to do in order to be able to hear on my headset with microphone while using Rosetta Stone program? I can currently speak to the program (it hears me just fine) but I can't hear it through the headset.  I can only hear it externally from the speaker and its very annoying.  I am extremely new to Apple products and I don't have a clue.  Please help!

    Hello & a warm welcome!
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • After installing Lion, I get an audio "instillation failed" message every tine I turn on computer. everything seems to work except microphone on roseta stone software.

I have reinstalled OS Lion with same results.

If you have an older version of Rosetta Stone, it was coded in PowerPC code which Lion is not capable of executing. I understand that they either have or will have a new version that is compatable with Lion.

  • Macbook OS X Yosemite - Logitech headset output audio not working with Rosetta Stone

So I got my macbook air 2014 with Yosemite software and I installed Rosetta Stone and I couldn't get the Logitech Headset (H540) to get the output audio through it.  The software will accept the microphone audio, but it will send the output audio throughout the internal speakers of my macbook air, or even worse, it will freeze the program until I disconnected the headset (as soon as I unplugged it from the usb, the software will continue like a nothing was going on).
So I look in dozens of webpages trying to find a solution, but I there was none.  I read that for some people creating a "multi-output device" in audio midi resolved the issue, but for most people including myself, it didn't work.
So after trying different options in the Audio MIDI setups, I found the solution!! :   If you change the "format" from the default 16000.00 Hz to one higher, it will work like a charm! Now everything is working perfectly for me, including the main reason of this research: Rosetta Stone program.
I hope this post helps and saves a lot of time to any of you having this same problem.
If any other questions (or thanks ) reply to this post.

This is great!  I've got one follow-on problem to this, though:  My format rate seems to keep snapping back to 16000, and breaking until I go back and fix it again (32000 works fine for me).  Any idea how to twiddle things so that 32000 is the default for my device?

  • B520 Built-in Microphone Problem

We recently got a B520 77452MU All In One.  It includes a built-in webcam & microphone, and since right out of the box the microphone has recorded horribly.  It has very high background noise, kind of like a whirring static-y fan, so high that one might say the talking is actually the "background" noise.  We've tried updating the drivers and adjusting the microphone settings in the sound section of the control panel.  After troubleshooting extensively with the warranty tech support, they said it wasn't a normal problem and had us ship it in to try replacing the microphone (the particular model # we bought was not available to order by the time we received ours - it took a month to ship - so the sales rep couldn't just exchange it). That did not resolve the poor recording quality, even though the repair slip said the webcam/mic unit was replaced and passed the test, so we're thinking this must really be a normal weakness of the system.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Has anyone figured out a solution?
We like the features of the computer otherwise, so we're thinking about just buying an external microphone, but it is very annoying to have an "all-in-one computer" mounted to our wall with accessories hanging off it because it isn't really "all-in-one".

I have more info on my own situation (with a USB connected head set.) Net: the Rosetta Stone suggestions seem to have worked. I've listed the steps they supplied for Windows 7. I made two changes from what I had been recently using, highlighted in red under "Editorial Comments" in steps 9 and 12. That combination seemed to stop the background noise (feedback from a device?) in my talking during voice recognition.
I realize this doesn't directly address the original post about "B520 Built-in Microphone Problem" since i wasn't doing the same thing. The original symptom, though, seemed to be related.
The suggested steps with a USB headset for voice recognition with my annotations:
    1. Plug your headset into an available USB-Port.
    2. Open the Start menu.
    3. Click on the Control Panel.
    start menu
    4. If you're viewing the Control Panel by Category, click Hardware and Sound and then Sound. If you're viewing by Large or Small icons, click Sound.
    open sound menu
    5. On the Playback tab, highlight your device by clicking on it. Your device may be listed as C-Media USB Audio Device, USB VoIP Device or Other USB Device. (Editorial comment: my only USB choice was "USB VoIP Device", which was what I was already using.)
    6. Click the Set Default button. If there's a green checkmark next to your preferred device, it's already set as the Default Device.
    Set Default
    7. Click the Properties button.
    click properties button
    8. Click the Levels tab.
    9. Adjust the Speakers to 30.   (Editorial comment: mine had been set to 67.)
    10. Click OK.
    11. Click the Recording tab.
    12. Highlight your device by clicking on it. It should have the same name as the device that you selected in the Playback tab.  (Editorial comment:  my microphone highlighted had a different name, "Lenovo USB 2.0 Audio", though I had nothing else audio but my headset plugged into a USB connection. I  highlighted the "USB VoIP Device" name used in step 5.)
    13. Click the Set Default button. If there's a green checkmark next to your preferred device, it's already set as the Default Device.
    14. Click OK.

  • Issue with Adobe Air and Rosetta Stone in Mountain Lion.

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to open Rosetta Stone.  I was directed to update and install adobe air.  I did that, then tried to open Rosetta Stone again and it said the installation of Adobe Air was damaged.  I went to Adobe to reinstall and it said it's already installed.  I'm now stuck in a circle...Help!

I also found this page from the Rosetta Stone site very helpful.
It was more helpful than anything on the Adobe site.

  • Why won't my Rosetta Stone open?

I just bought Rosetta Stone TOTALe. I have a Mac with OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a), which should support the program. However, after installing the disc the program will not open. When I click on it bounces once and then closes. I tried deleting my cache but that didn't help. Can anyone help me out?

    Thank you Jeremymsu!
I had the same problem with Rosetta Stone Totale. I'd click the icon, it would bounce once and then not load.  So I redownloaded both Flash and Air and it launched.
BUT, once it launched I received "Fatal Application Error: #2124" and the program would crash.  Here's a link to the Rosetta Stone support page with the fix.  I followed the directions and now have the program running like a champ.

  • Rosetta Stone TOTALe (Spanish) 4.5.5 Fatal Application Error 1141 Installs But Won't Launch After MacBook Restarts

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 (Maverick) and am trying to add Rosetta Stone Latin Am Spanish to this laptop, after having successfully installed it several years ago on a older MBP.
I was given the latest download file TOTALe 4.5.5 by Rosetta Stone Support for this purpose.  It will install fine and work, immediately upon installation, but when I shut down and restart, I can no longer launch the program and get the Fatal Application Error 1141 code instead.
I have been through this issue many, many times with Rosetta Stone Support already and have followed, alone and with them, the troubleshooting link set up for this problem without success. (Here is the link:  https://rosettastone.secure.force.com/en/language-learning/articles/Error-1141-a ppears-when-I-start-the-Rosetta-Stone-TOTALe-application#macdiv)  Rosetta Stone has run out of ideas to resolve this issue. (I have saved about 10 chat session transcripts where the support people have me run through the same steps over and over, despite my informing them of the previous lack of success in following these steps.)
My OS X is up to date. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem running Maverick.
Any thoughts would be greatly  appreciated.
P.S. This is a relatively new MBP and the only add-on software other than Rosetta Stone is Microsoft Office.

I have the same problem.  Back in 2011 I bought Rosetta and got the very same problem, talked and talked to their support to no avail.  On that instance they returned my purchase money.  This time around I asked beforehand if the software was totally compatible with Yosemite and they said yes.  I just got it, tried to unit and got error 1141 again.  It is very frustrating! I will talk to them again but my hopes are very low.  I guess one needs to understand that the software is crap!

  • My Mac Book Pro using Mountain Lion will show a usb headset with a mic to select in the settings window. But the Rosetta Stone software I am using will not find the mic for me to select and use. What should I do?

Mac Book Pro with OS X Mountain Lion will not recognize headset mic via Rosetta Stone software. What should I do?

    Hi Illaass,
I am using version 3. I have used the apple/settings on my mac. The headset is appearing there and it is selected there. In the Rosetta Stone select/find window nothing shows up. It is blank. But the volume bars react when I speak and sliding the fader has the expected effect of raising and lowering the input. There is just no device showing up as the selected input device in the Rosetta Stone software.
I have done everything my Mac instructions say to uninstall and reinstall the Rosetta Stone software properly.
I'm guessing the problem may be in the licensing. I installed it first on the old hard drive that crashed. Maybe that used the terms of the license and now installing it in the new hard drive violates the license somehow. So that's why it will not work properly. It allows me to open the lessons and asks me if I want to continue from where I left off. I click continue. Then it asks me if I want to register the software. I click the tab for already registered software and click continue. Then nothing happens. So again I click on the button that indicates I want to continue lessons from where I left off. The same process happens with it asking me if I want to register the software. And it will not proceed through a lesson.

  • 10.5.7 update messes up speech recogniton component of rosetta stone

I've been using Rosetta Stone for a while and there is a speech component to the program where, via the built in mic or a usb headset, you speak when prompted and the program analyzes your voice and tells you if your pronunciation is correct. With OS X 10.5.6 this particular component worked fine, but after installing the update the program now has a slower response time to my voice and more often than not incorrectly analyzes what I've said, requiring that I repeat each exercise about a half-dozen times before getting it right. I thought it was a problem with the program, but I was informed that this is an issue with version 10.5.7 and not Rosetta Stone, and that complaints have been spotted in forums having nothing to do with the Rosetta Stone software.
Could this be a bug with the update? If so, can someone direct me as to how to get a message to those responsible for correcting them. Thanks.

This problem may be related to the issue discussed in this thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2005978&start=0&tstart=0
    The post by Rasti,
"OK, for the Extigy issue ... it seems I have found a workaround.
Go to /System/Library/Extensions. There is a kernel extension for USB Audio, named AppleUSBAudio.kext.
10.5.6 contains version 2.6.0b11 of that module.
The 10.5.7. upgrade installs a new version, 2.6.4b11. Using a time machine backup
from earlier today, I simply reinstalled the old module...."
may describe the same audio problem you are experiencing.
The solution is not trivial and there is no guarantee it will fix your issue, but it might.

  • Is Rosetta Stone v4 compatible with Mountain Lion?

I'm looking to upgrade to Mountain Lion however I just dropped $500 on Rosetta Stone a few weeks ago. I'm wondering, has anyone here tried running Rosetta Stone v4 on Mountain Lion?

I think the problem occurs when making a fresh installation of Mountain Lion and then using the Migration Assistant to bring applications, settins, and files from a Time Machine backup onto the newly installed Mountain Lion. That's what I did because I thought upgrading to OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) was a good time to also upgrade my Macbook with a larger hard drive. Read this thread for the error description are the hoops I had to jump through to make Rosetta Stone 4 work in this upgrade scenario.
Rosetta Stone (v.4.1.15) Error 8111 under Mountain Lion
It appears that the culprit may be the file "tracking.db3" located in /Library/Application Support/Rosetta Stone/TOTALe
I'm not sure how a fresh installatoin of Rosetta Stone 4 would behave under Mountain Lion. Perhaps it would also go smoothly. I do know that restoring Rosetta Stone (application and application settings) with the Migration Assistant onto Mountain Lion from the Time Machine backup made on Lion causes major issues and Rosetta Stone doesn't work without extra steps described in the referenced thread.
