Rosewill High Power USB Hub

Does anyone have this USB charger that could speak to its ability to charge iPad?

I know that iPad needs 2A of power to charge while in use and it seems like this hub may fulfill that requirement.

It says that it comes with a 2 amp power adapter. But it is a seven port hub, and designed in the expectation that the 2 amps is going to drive all seven ports. You won't get all the power directed through a single port.  It is a hub, not a charger.
If you really just want a charger for the ipad, there are plenty of choices on Amazon or Ebay, apart from Apple's own, of course.

  • Purchased "high power" USB hub, still doesn't charge.

I found a 4-port USB hub with two "high power" ports (Targus ACH80US), but my iPad still won't charge when attached (yes, to the high power port, yes it's plugged into the wall too).
Anyone have any ideas? I'm using an older G5 iMac, but it's going through the new "high power" USB hub.

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. *When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.* Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Does your iPad not charge when the iPad is in sleep mode?

  • Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

It's highly likely that there is a poor connection in the phone - either a pin in the dock connector or internal wiring harness.  No software fixes or "tricks" would work, but I would recommend restoring in iTunes, first using a backup and if needed restore as a new phone.
Otherwise, opening and repairing the phone takes some tech knowledge that can't be relayed here.  Apple doesn't repair phones other than replacing batteries (not inconceivable that you have a bad battery), but offers "out-of-warranty" replacement (refurb) phones for $149 (US).  3rd party iPhone repair centers may be able to fix it for less.  Google to find them,
    Tried soft and hard resets
FYI, there's no such thing as "soft" or "hard" resets in iPhone terminology.  There is only one phone reset. You'll see those terms thrown around by technically ignorant posters, but they mean different things to different people and are actually archaic, 1980s PC terms that have nothing to do with iPhones.

  • High-Power USB Motherboards

I'm about to build a new rig -- most likely using an Asus MB. Anyone know if Asus sells a MB with the high-power USBs necessary to charge the iPad? And I've tried ai charger ... all it does is crash my current system (which has a P5Q Deluxe MB and Intel Q9550 processor). In fact, I've seen on the Asus forums that ai charger crashes a lot of systems, so I'd rather just go with a system that already provides high-power USBs.
    Thanks.

If by high power you mean USB-3 you will only get 1 amp at 5 volts. You will then get 2 times the charging current of a normal USB2. Not really worth worth the effort. I have both on my computer and find that the 1/2 amp usb2 ports keep the iPad at 100 percent.
If you add a usb3 card to a system remember to plug in the extra power cable to the card. Generally it it a spare 4 pin cable that goes to cooling fans.

  • "This High-Speed USB device is connected a non High-Speed USB Hub" pops up!

Hi. I have an iPod mini and a Window XP desktop. I've checked my computer as stated in the forum. I know I have a USB 2.0 port according to one of the posts I've read, but I guess it's not a high speed LOL. So I was wondering if it takes more time to fully recharge the iPod mini with a non High-Speed USB Hub than it does with the High-Speed USB Hub.

  • Power USB Hub shutting down iMac while in sleep

    Hello,
First time using the forums here and I do apologized if this has been discussed before. I recently purchased a power 7 port USB hub (Newer Technology) from OWC. I plugged it in and everything seems to work great. However, when my iMac goes to sleep, it completely shuts off my iMac? I've verified that this is the issue and tested several times to confirm. I did a SMC reset and that did not work.
I was hoping if anyone who may have input in this matter or experience what I'm experiencing? I could return the usb hub and find a replacement but I was wondering if there is a solution for this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

If you installed Mac OS X 10.6.6 using Software Update then I would try installing the 10.6.6 Combo manually. Occasionally the Combo can install any missing pieces in your OS.

  • Power USB Hub - powers the Airport Base Station (802.11n)?

I have a powered USB hub hooked up to my new AE. If I pull the power plug for the AE, the unit remains partially powered via the USB port (my hub). It won't power down until I also remove the USB plug into the AE.
Anybody else seen this? Is this normal? Is this an AE problem? Is this a problem with my USB hub?

By partially powered I mean, when I unplug the AE, the light on the front remains on but flashing. Why would I unplug it? Because I want to reboot it because my cable modem dropped the connection and I could not get the connection back. I attempted to power down the cable modem and router but I left the printer, HD's, and the USB hub powered up.

  • Power USB Hub Adapter

    Hello,
Couple of months ago, I bought a 4 Port powered USB hub from the local Microcenter, however it didn't come with a power adapter. The power receptacle is labeled:
    Input: DC 5.0V, 500 - 1000MA
    Rated Power: 2.5W DC5.0V
The only reasonably priced power adapter I could find was Vohnk AC Adapter from monoprice:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10420&cs_id=1042001&pid=2220&seq=1&format=2
    Input: 100-240V 50/60Hz 0.4A
    Output: 5V 2.0A
Could this adapter flood the USB bus with feedback power and damage my mac pro? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

The problem may be the powered hub.  Contact the manufacturer.  Perhaps they can sort it out.  Some powered hubs works better than others.  I also have a 7 port hub (powered).  So far, its working out pretty good.
Another thing to try:  Zap the PRAM!  If that doesn't work then contact the hub's customer tech support dept.
    I have 3 Ext. HD - 3 printers - 2 iPhones - 1 iPad and a partridge in a pear tree... (sorry, couldn't resist that)

  • USB HUB POWER EXCEEDED (with mid 2007 iMac keyboard)

When I connect any USB 2.0 device in the keyboard USB port, windows vista (XP too) shows the follow message:
    "USB Hub power exceeded"
But when I use the same kind of USB hardware with MAC OS they just run fine, with no errors!
Is there any way to bypass or correct this error in Windows?

Here's the basic XP troubleshooting document (from Microsoft) for that one:
One or more USB devices may not work after you start your Windows XP-based computer
But I've also seen it produced when a high-power USB device is connected to a low power USB port.
Are the keyboard USB ports on the iMac low power or high power?

  • Will it work with R500? Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-300N 600mW USB Adapter.

Hi all, new to this site and also to owning a laptop. Bought what I believe to be 2009 Thinkpad R500. It works well with windows 7 installed. I bought it  so that I could stream music in my shop connected to my stereo. I sometimes think I should have maybe save up a little more and bought a new laptop. Paid $200 for it. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could tell if the item below will work with my laptop? My thoughts are to some time in the near future to also install an outdoor wifi antenna on my house. One thing I did notice in my shop which confused me a little was when I had my laptop and my wife's laptop down in my shop, her signal strength was around 20 mbps and mine only showed 13 mbps. Any ideas to why?
Add Long Range Wi-Fi to your Computer: Whether you're using a Mac or Windows laptop or desktop PC, the UA600 attaches to an available USB port (2 USB ports for maximum performance) on your computer and provides long range Wi-Fi connectivity for connecting to your home Wi-Fi network or a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Maximum Wi-Fi Range: The internal High Power 600mW Amplifier (12x the power of standard adapters) is optimally paired with a High Power 5dBi Wi-Fi antenna to provide maximum wireless range and performance.
Simple Setup: Setup is quick and simple: Insert the installation CD, install the software and plug in the High Power USB Adapter.
Great for Power Users: The High Power USB Adapter is designed for Wi-Fi users that demand the most from their Wi-Fi networks. The UA600 features wireless data reception speeds of up to 300Mbps for streaming video, transferring large data files and other high traffic Wi-Fi activities.
Upgradable Antenna for More Wi-Fi Range: The High Power USB Adapter features a detachable antenna that can be replaced with an indoor or outdoor high gain antenna for even more Wi-Fi range or for special installation applications.
Universal Compatibility: The High Power USB Adapter works great with all 2.4GHz 802.11b/g or n wireless routers, Wi-Fi networks and manufacturers.

Your machine as it left the factory:
    P8600(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
I'm going to take a stab in the dak that the card is Intel 5100AGN, which *should* support both bands. That's what my own R500 came with.
Depending on the amount of $$ that you want to spend on a router, there are many possible options. I'd suggest checking out the recommendations from various broadband forums.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • USB Hub and iPod

Do I need a powered USB Hub to connect my iPod to my iMac or will a standard, non-powered one work?

It needs to be a high power USB port.
The port on the keyboard is not high power. Also, it's a USB 1.1 port so it would be slower than molasses on a cold day.
If your hub is connected to one of the USB ports on back of the computer, those are high power.
If the hub is powered, it is a high power hub.

  • Have you tested external Air Superdrive with Powerbook via a USB hub?

Have you tried plugging the Air Superdrive into their Powerbook via a powered USB hub? It seems the testing I've read with non-Air Macs has been just direct into the USB ports instead of via a powered hub. Can't a high-powered USB hub make up for the difference in power necessary to sufficiently drive the Superdrive? Does anyone know how the output of the Air's USB 2.0 port compares with that in a Powerbook G4?
    Thanks

It has been reported outside these Apple forums that merely supplying more power to the MBA SuperDrive (in any of several ways) doesn't make it work with other machines. I've seen one website describing a hardware modification inside the SuperDrive's case (invalidating the warranty, of course) that was successful in enabling other machines to recognize and use it. It wouldn't be within the Terms of Use for these Discussions to say any more than that here; even saying that much may be going too far.

  • Airport Extreme - Use a Printer and Ext. Harddisk via USB hub same time?

I would like to purchase a Wireless Router that would allow me to use a printer (Dell All in One 962) and an External Hard Disk (yet to buy)simultaneously. I liked the Netgear WNDR 3700 router, but it does not support printer sharing!
Would Airport Extreme Router allow me to use both at the same time via high speed USB hub? Are all USB printers and USB external hard disks compatible with this router - any compatibility guide available?
    Message was edited by: JJacob

You won't know for sure until you try, but you can get some indication by trying the following "test".
Plug the Dell device into the USB port on the AirPort Extreme and make sure it is powered up.
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and then open Print & Fax. Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list box.
Does your printer name show up in the next box? If so, click on the printer name to highlight it, then click the Add button at the lower right to install the printer at that location.
Keep in mind that if your device is compatible, only the print function will work when your all-in-one is connected to the AirPort. Scan, copy, maintenance and other functions are not supported when the device is connected to the AirPort, so if you need these services, you'll have to connect the all-in-one directly to your computer when you need them.

  • High-Powered USB vs Non High-powered USB ?

I have a new shuffle(512 mb). I have successfully loaded the itunes software on my 2 year old Dell PC. I have 2 USB ports(500 ma) on the back of the tower.
I have plugged the ipod into a USB and itunes has recognized it. I have successfully uploaded several playlists.
I have however received window messages that a high-power device is plugged into a non high-power USB port. I plugged my ipod in for charging and the status light is amber. How do I know if the ipod is being charged by this non high-power USB port?
    Ipod Shuffle   Windows XP

    Hi,
From your description it is very clear that the USB ports in your computer is a low powered USB 1.1 port, to charge the battery of an iPod shuffle it should be connected to a USB 2.0 port.
You may plug in the iPod shuffle to any computer which has a High powered USB port for a maximum of 4 hours for a good charge. Right now the iPod shuffle is in low charge.
Otherwise you may buy an USB power adaptor from Apple Store.
