Rotate a movie clip in iMovie HD

Hi all,
I am a recent convert back from iMovie 08 and I need to rotate a movie clip and I do not see the feature in the transitions button. Could someone please help.
Thanks

i don't use this software, but i can suggest you an easy way to rotate your clip...you can do it with quicktime time pro, a really great pro app that is quite cheap...
you can do it with freeware video apps too, i think mpegstreamclip could be able to do this...try to check it.

  • How to Rotate a Movie Clip

I was taking a clip of Old Faithful and due to the height I turned my camera sideways, figuring I could rotate the video once I got it into iMovie.
Well, I can't figurer out how and when I enter "rotate" into iMovie help, it comes up with nothing useful.
I'm running a current update of iMovie 6 HD.
Anyone got any idea or some shareware that can rotate a movie clip?

Search this forum for "movie, rotate, plugin." This topic comes up a lot and there are some free plugins to deal with it. One thread to read is

Although, I gather, the free plugins don't work quite as well as QT Pro.
I was very happily surprised that the software which came with my Canon can do this. Canon's ImageBrowser has a utility called MovieEdit Task that can do simple editing, including rotating clips 90 degrees.

how do you combine two or more movie clips into one movie clip in iMovie '09

First create an iMovie project. Then drag the clips (or portions of clips) that you need into the project.
When finished, use the SHARE menu to share the project.

Can you help me rotate my video clip in iMovie ?  I followed the instructions in the Help menu, but was stuck on Step 3  - after I had selected the entire Clip and then was unable to click  on the "Cropping Button".

Are you in the timeline? You can't access the crop button if the clip is in the browser.

  • Error -2002 when importing quicktime movie clips into iMovie Project

When I import QuickTime movie clips into my project, the scroll bar fills about 1/3 of the way, and then I get this message:
Can't open file "DSCN0812.MOV"; skipping it and continuing. I CLICK "OK," and then this message appears:
    Error during import
The file could not be imported: (-2002)
This happens to every movie clip. Anyone have any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks!

I guess, you try to import 'moving images' from a still cam, right? these are in a codec (=mov is no format, just a container) , iM doesn't support. Use the free tool *Mpeg Streamclip* www.squared5.com to convert these files to 'dv stream' BEFORE importing to iMovie.

  • Help please! quality problems converting HDMI movie clips into iMovie mp4

I am importing HDMI movie clips from a canon powershot SX50HS camera into iMovie and building them into a single MP4 intended for YouTube.
The movie clips appear clear as a bell individually in iPhoto whatever size I enlarge them to on the screen but are horrendously blurred in the MP4 movie- especially text.
Help!!!! What am I doing wrong????

    Hi chrisluna123,
If you are not already doing so, you may want to try importing directly into iMovie from the camera. You may also want to test the "Analyze for stabilization after import” function on a shorter clip to see if that helps. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Uploading sony cybershot DSC-T7 movie clips into iMovie

I can import the movie clips from my Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 into iPhoto, and I can play the movies on my Mac. I can move still photos from that camera successfully into iMovie. That's the good news.
But every time I try to move a movie clip from my Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 into the area to create a new project, I get the RED flag.
I even went to an Apple store where they had a session on iMovie to sort it out. The Apple person guessed my inablity to import movie clips from the Sony camera was because my Sony doesn't have the right movie format. Apparently the only kinds of files that iMovie works with are MPEG-4, DV, or .mov files.
What movie format does the Sony Cybershot DSC-T7? If I can successfully hook up the camera via USB port, and can play the movie clips on my Mac, why can't I import them into iMovie?
My current backup measure is to take pictures while my movie clips are running, using the Apple-Shift-3 keys to create stills. But, hey, I want to work with the video stream!
Thanks for any help you can offer.

What movie format does the Sony Cybershot DSC-T7?
MPEG VX. If I remember correctly, this is a full-frame (VGA) of MPEG-1 with up to 30 fps in fine setting. Muxed formats (like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOD, TOD, MOD, FLASH, etc.) are not editable at the frame level and must be converted to a compression format that contain synchronized instances (i.e., frames) of audio and video data.
If I can successfully hook up the camera via USB port, and can play the movie clips on my Mac, why can't I import them into iMovie?
There are basically three levels of QT support for video files:
    1) PLAYBACK ONLY -- these files can be played back by QT applications but cannot be converted or edited.
    2) CONVERSION COMPATIBLE -- These files with play in QT applications and can be converted to "Fully" compatible QT compression formats but cannot be edited at the frame level.
    3) FULLY COMPATIBLE -- these files can be played, converted, and edited by QT applications.
Your video files are "Playback Only." If converted by a QT Application (like iMovie '06 or iTunes), they will lose their audio. They can, however, be converted to iMovie '08 import/edit compatible files by MPEG-based, third-party applications like MPEG Streamclip (free), iSquint (free), FFmpegX (donation ware), Visual Hub (pay ware), etc.

  • Digital Camera Movie Clips in iMovie, FCE or FCP?

I was wondering if anyone has come across a digital camera that takes movie clips in a format that can either be edited straight in iMovie, FCE, FCP or one that takes the clips in a format that can be easily converted over to something that one of those three programs use. Thanks.

Virtually any of the Sony digital stills cameras will shoot 30fps as long as you use a Memory Stick (..or smaller Memory Stick Duo..) Pro as the memory chip. The faster access speed of the Pro chips lets you shoot at 30fps.
Similarly with other, such as Fuji, cameras: as long as there's a high-speed chip in there, such as a high-speed Compact Flash card, you'll probably be able to get 30fps (frames per second). Check the instructions on the camera box, or camera manual.
However, some jerkiness may be apparent when using iMovie HD, as that tends to offer 'DV 29.97' as the frame rate for 30fps movies, whereas, I think, things were smoother in previous versions of iMovie, in which the 'NTSC' choice (29.97 or 30fps) really did seem to use 30fps instead of 29.97.
    That's been my experience, anyway.
[..See a quick'n'dirty comparison here for QuickTime 7 users, or (a rather more jerky version) here for QuickTime 6 users..]

in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)

  • How do you edit movie clips in iMovie 11 on MacBook Pro?

I am trying to edit an iMovie project on my husband's MacBook Pro, since I can't get my iMac to work (long frustrating day here!).  I don't see the "edit" tool (looks like a pencil) that my iMac has, and am having trouble figuring out how to select and delete specific clips in the movie.

  • How do I move clips from iMovie to a dvd

I would like to make a DVD with clips that I have on iMovie.  How do I do so?  Also, how do I save in a way that it will be viewable on a PC?

Do you have iDVD on your Mac? If you do, you can use iDVD to make a DVD. If you don't have iDVD, please check this for help:https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3711. If you still can't get iDVD installed on your mac, you can try to make a DVD with the third party tool, like this one https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dvd-maker/id599211693?ls=1&mt=12. Would you lile to view the original clips on PC or watch the DVD disc on PC?
