Rotate an Object in Flash CS4

Hi everybody,
I'm new to flash and would like to animate-spin the
navigation buttons on a website. I thought that if I created the
object and then moved down on the timeline and rotated it with the
3d rotation tool, that would do the trick, but it doesn't work when
i test the movie. Can someone tell me how to animate the object (in
this case, the button is saved as a movie clip) so that it spins
around? i tried this tutorial (
http://www.flashvault.net/tutorial.asp?ID=73),
but got multiple errors on the action script code.
Second, there will be 4 nav buttons in all on the site,
what's the best way to create the navbar? Do I try to create
individual flash files for each button and insert into dreamweaver
separately or is there a better way to create the entire nav bar in
flash and then bring that into dreamweaver?
Thanks,
Veronica

This is one of those cases where you really need to learn
ActionScript, which takes time..
Here's a better tutorial that should get you further..

  • Is it possible to use 3D objects in Flash CS4 for animation?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use 3D objects created in 3D Max, Blendor, iClone etc. to perform animation to make Flash Movie more realistic? Can I make nice animations like in iClone 4 Software?
    If it is possible to use 3D Objects in Flash, please provide a sample Tutorial Link if you have any.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 1009 Error (Null Object Call) Flash CS4

    Hi All
    I'm very new to Flash (this is my first attempt) and am trying to figure out how to deal with this error I'm getting.
    The code is supposed to animate a flyout menu on a mouse hover event.
    I'm actually surprised I have made it this far before getting stumped.
    Please help, My brain hurts.
    Here is my code:

    var Fishing_btn:SimpleButton = Fishing_btn;
    function FishingFlyout (event:MouseEvent):void

        Fishing_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,FishingFlyout);

    Thanks for your help.
    Dave

    I am not sure why you have these two lines...
    var FishingSub_mc:MovieClip = FishingSub_mc;
    var Fishing_btn:SimpleButton = Fishing_btn;
    If those two objects are items on your stage, then you should not need those lines of code at all. The important thing is to be sure that you have the instance names assigned to the objects.  Whichever object is being targeted on line 12 is out of scope when that code executes.
    Some of the possible reasons...
    - the object doesn't have the instance name assigned to it
    - the object animates into the movie and does not have that instance name assigned at each keyframe
    - the object is somewhere down a timeline when that code executes

  • Import 3D objects  from PS cs4 to Flash Cs4?

    I know it's a noob question but can anyone tell me how to
    import a 3D object from Photoshop into Flash Cs4? Thanx in
    advanced!!

    Unfortunately, the 3D in Flash CS4 isn't quite the same kind
    of 3D in Photoshop. Photoshop Extended can create animated
    sequences as well as texturing 3D objects. As one possible work
    around, you can export your 3D object as a rotating animation from
    Photoshop (preferably as a sequence of images), and then import and
    display that in Flash or manipulate it with Actionscript to add
    interactivity.
    If your original 3D input is a COLLADA file, you could import
    it to Flash directly using a
    Papervision3D
    component, rather than going through Photoshop.
    Photoshop can import COLLADA files as well, but it can't
    export
    them, so if you're relying on Photoshop heavily, you'll want to
    use the first method that I listed above.

  • How do I make a 3-d rotating text in Flash cs4?

    Hi, Thunder BoomCat PowWow here.
    I'm a student in this Virtual Enterprise class and am in charge of learning flash and making a kick-butt commercial for our firm: Uncommon Ground.
    I was wanted to make some text rotate AROUND a sphere in flash (the sphere is going to be a picture of the earth).
    I want the text to go in one direction, wrapping around the sphere, and appearing on the other side like it went all the way around.
    Can anyone tell me how to do that using Flash?
    Thanks in advanced,
    TBCPW
    Sole employee of the media department

    flash can't make 3d objects.  cs5 can make 2d objects that move in apparent 3d space but that's the limit of flash'es capabilities.
    however, there are other programs that can be used to make 3d objects and then animate those objects in flash.

  • In Macromedia Flash8 we had an option insert timeline effects rotate. Do we have any option to rotate an object in Adobe Flash cs5 and above

    in Macromedia Flash8 we had an option insert>timeline effects>rotate. Do we have any option to rotate an object in Adobe Flash cs5 and above.

    You can also use the following:
    1 Select the object to rotate > Right Click > Create Motion Tween.
    2 Click on the last frame of the Motion tween and choose the desired Rotation settings from Properties panel.

  • Problem with motion tweening in Flash CS4

    Hi !
    I tried to refresh my little flash knowledge -- but I stumbled upon a problem with the new Flash CS4!
    When I try to make different blur or alpha effect on one keyframe I got after making the motion tween -- Flash adjust the other keyframe as well (got the same reaction on both keyframes as if it was the same instance of movie clip -- and not as in old flash; the keyframes created separated or independent instances)
    The only thing working for me is when I move the movie clip out of the stage on the first keyframe -- and it correctly move its position.
    What's wrong?
    Kind Regards
    Maria Olsen

    Hello Maria,
    You sort of answered your own question:)
    "got the same reaction on both keyframes as if it was the same instance of movie clip"
    That is exactly right and is the proper way of looking at new motion tweens. It is one instance of the movieclip for the duration of the tween. It takes awhile to get used to this.
    New motion tweens allow you to set up a a very simple tween initially without keyframing ending values / position. Once you start making changes after the tween is set, you are going to have to get familiar with adding "property keyframes". Property keyframes are displayed with those little diamond icons in the timeline. Poperty keyframes allow you to "lock in" certain specific properties at key points in your animation without affecting other properties. With the old classic keyframes, a keyframe placed mid-tween would create a whole new instance of a symbol with all properties (rotation, scale, alpha etc) set in stone for that point in time. The benefit was that you could easily have all properties tween TO and FROM that keyframe if that's what you wanted. Now you can make adjustments to a symbol mid-tween and only specifically adjust a single property. So you can adjust the alpha of an object mid-tween without interrupting say a rotation that you wanted to happen all the way through.
    If you simply want an object to move left to right and then you decide it should fade in
    CLASSIC TWEEN
    -place symbol on frame 1
    -keyframe frame 10
    -in frame 10 move the symbol to the right
    -add classice tween
    Ok, that works, now add alpha fade in
    -go back to frame 1 and set alpha to 0
    -classice tween automatically adjusts alpha from 0 in frame 1 to 100 in frame 10.
    -done
    MOTION TWEEN
    -place symbol on stage
    -create motion tween
    -playhead jumps to last frame
    -move symbol to the right (no need to f6 / keyframe)
         Flash automatically adds something called a "position" keyframe (notice the little black diamond)
    Ok, that works, now add alpha fade in
    -go to frame 1 and set alpha to 0
    -test movie
    -oops - wrong. As you noted the alpha will stay at 0 throughout the whole tween.
    -you need to additionally go to the last frame and set the alpha back to 100
         -this will automtically create a "color" property keyframe on the last frame
    When just doing this now I noticed something odd as well
    As soon as I do the position change and move the symbol to the right, if I try to add the "color keyframe" on the last frame of the tween, I am not allowed to do so. "color" and "filter" are greyed out. I would prefer to lock the alpha at 100 in the last frame while the playhead is in position before setting it down to 0 in frame 1. Oh well.
    Seems you are forced to
    -go back to the beginning of the tween
    -adjust the alpha
    -then go to the end and manually bring the alpha back up.
    hmm maybe i'm missing something too:)
    the best way to do this would be to have the foresight ahead of time to do the alpha
    -place the symbol
    -alpha 0
    -add motion tween
    -in last frame move the symbol  set alpha to 100 (alpha and position keyframes are automatically set)
    So if you do it right the first time, its easy. If not, well.
    Keep in mind an object will maintain the properties it has set in frame 1 unless a subsequent property keyframe enforces some adjustment.
    If you have have an object that is moving from point a to b to c to d:
    If you alter the alpha at point b, the alpha will tween from point a to b, but will maintain the new alpha to c, to d.
    If you scale the clip by 200% at point, its scale will tween from point a all the way to point d, NOT just from c to d
    To scale from point c to d only, set a "scale" property keyframe at point c (this will lock the objects scale at 100) THEN scale to 200% at point d
    It takes a good deal of practice. I found the hard way that you just can't "wing" it. It isn't very intuitive coming from a classic tween approach.
    These articles really helped me:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/motion_migration_guide.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/learning_guide/animation/
    Take note of the tips on "cntr-clicking" frames and "shift-dragging". You have to really get used to a few keyboard modifiers when editing the timeline.
    Stick around the forums. A lot of good info comes through daily.

  • A puzzled export question of Flash CS4

    I have a picture A and picture B,A is 100pix*50pix,B is
    20pix*80pix,then I set document size is 100pix*50pix,and put
    picture A as background,then I put picture B at the right of

    well,I can see picture B move from bottom to top at the right of
    picture A and the docuemnt is 100pix*50pix.I only see the area of
    100pix*50pix,the part of picture B out of 100pix*50pix is not
    seen,it is what I wanted. But when I export this swf,and open this

    it to see myself what gone wrong.. I wasn't laughing long,
    but.. the thing
    is, this panel is called "Snippets".
    The panel that allows me to store some code pieces and text
    as a template in

    example, into the code
    panel as I write PHP script.

  • Flash CS4 Tween Migration

    Hi,
    I just wanted to get the thoughts of the expert here. I played around with the new tween tool in CS4, and it seems that the difference is I dont see the tween arrow anymore in the timeline; and there is an easing in the property that has been added. How this has changed from the old concept finally?
    I see this just like putting some icing on the cake, and nothing would wow me to use this tool.
    Please correct me if I am wrong, especially those of you who have utilized this tool in a different manner.
    Looking forward for an open discussions.
    Thank you
    uxk

    Hi Uxk,
    I'm actually glad that you're finding the workflow similar - because it's actually a rather massive two-cycling change behind the scenes, and we typically hear something a bit different. Here are some of the changes and benfits between old and new:
    you cannot break a new motion tween - no more “dashed arrows”
    as such, new tweens are easier to use: you directly manipulate objects on the Stage without needing to always think about keyframes. You don’t even need to add keyframes - just manipulate the object and the keyframes are inserted for you.
    granular control over each part of a tween.
    motion paths are shown right on the Stage for all tweens. Highly visual, and directly editable.
    you can use the new Motion Editor with new tweens
    as such, the Motion Editor means tweens are more powerful in general: each property and keyframe on each property is accessible and editable independently. You can tween alpha separately from rotation separately from scale (etc).
    in that Motion Editor you can edit individual properties on a graph
    you can use the new 3D model with new tweens
    you can give your tween an instance name and then give other instances that same tween at runtime
    new tweens are easy to stretch by just dragging the span in the timeline
    new tweens have new eases, which have advanced (and very cool, better, enhanced) eases
    you can create/apply custom eases that do not need to end at 100%
    you can save a tween as a preset and reuse it in that or other documents
    new tweens are easy to move now - either on the timeline (drag the tween span around), or on the stage by selecting the motion path and just moving it on the Stage (lets just say it is WAY easier than edit multiple frames).
    motion paths in general are easier, and you no longer need motion guides. The motion path for a tween is attached right to the tween.
    you can apply a new instance to an existing tween by just pasting it onto a tween to swap it out, drag a new instance from the Library, or use Swap Symbol. you can even have a tween without an instance applied to it, and all properties of that tween will be saved until you apply an instance to it.
    (From my blog post here: http://flashthusiast.com/2008/09/22/the-new-way-of-tweening-in-flash-cs4-or-new-motion-in- flash-cs4-makes-your-animations-better-faster-stronger/)
    You may want to check out the Motion Migration guide here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/motion_migration_guide.html  -- this article outlines the changes between the two models.
    Some of the bigger new features to check out are: Motion Presets (pre-made and custom), the Motion Editor (it ain't small...), preset eases (these made a radical difference in how quickly I could do certain animations), and tween instances (tons of new capabilities here, and reductions in amt of scripted code you have to write). Here are some blog posts on them:

  • Need to import from Maya 3D model in an Air-flash cs4 desktop application without loosing quality

    Hello everybody,
    We developed an air flash cs4 desktop application for the medical industry.
    Our application is too large because instead of using the 3 D model made via Maya, we use many images to simulate the rotation in order to keep the hight quality of the images.
    When we first developed the application we used C++ but we were loosing too much quality because we could not import the texture and the light effect at the same time - we could import only one of them.
    Now that we are using flash cs4 do you know if we could import in flash cs4 the 3D model which contains a hight amount of polygone with the texture and the light effect without any problem ? that could solve maybe our issu regarding the size of our application.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards
    Rachel

    I would look into using Papervision 3D, a full 3D engine for Flash.  This is built by a 3rd party, but is the current standard for doing these types of things.
    You can export the Maya project out to a compatible format for use in Papervision.

    After connection i press initSendStreamBTN in first swf (it is 1st browser page)
    and i press initReceiveStreamBTN in 2nd swf
    After that iwrite down some text in txtSendData TextField (in 1st browser page) and press sendDataBTN
    Nothing happens

    this function doesn't work correctly:
    private function sendDataBTNPressed(e:MouseEvent){
                sendStream.send("receiveSomeData",txtSendData.text);
    because you send not String, but link to the txtSendData.text, which is empty in another peer.
    So, solution is following (not the one, but for example):
    private function sendDataBTNPressed(e:MouseEvent){
             var sendString:String = "";
            sendString+=txtSendData.text;
            sendStream.send("receiveSomeData",sendString);

  • How to Make Dreamweaver CS4/Flash CS4 Website Function on all Latest Mobile Devices

    Hello!
    I am trying to add code into my Dreamweaver CS4 file and/or Flash CS4 file in order to have the website I have created work across all of the latest mobile devices as well as traditional online systems. My flash file has a transparent stage, and my dreamweaver file has a full-screen background image. I have reviewed various tutorials and articles available online, and some advocate simply adding code, which does not seem to be working for me, while others suggest having a similar separate site created solely for mobile devices. If this is the best option, I don't know how that should be set up. What is the best path to take with this?
    This is the collection of various pieces of code I have tried adding to my files:
      <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" user-scalable="yes" initial-scale="1.0" /> <!-- iphone,android -->

    I have tried various combinations of the code listed above, but nothing seems to be working. I am not sure as to the positioning of the code, and maybe that is the problem, or maybe it is because this code in not for CS4, or not appropriate for my project. I also do not know what code should be inside the Flash file, nor what should should be inside the Dreamweaver file.
    Thank you in advance for any assistance!

    Hi
    To add to what Gramps has said, Adobe has ceased developing its flash player for ALL mobile devices so do not use Flash for any mobile device.
    Depending on the complexity of your Flash program you may be able to recreate it using Edge, but the code generated by Edge does not work in IE8 or below.
    For details on Edge, see - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/

    There is no simple code to add that will display the same on all mobile devices....
    you do know that the iProducts (iPhone, iPad, etc) don't display Flash at all, right?
    So as a start for "functioning on all latest mobile devices" you should drop any Flash content you have and move on.

  • Display results of MySQL query from AMFPHP by ArrayCollection in AS3 (Flash CS4)

    Hi, i am using Flash CS4 (AS3) + AMFPHP + MySQL to do own flash frontend for Wordpress CMS.  Everything is going fine but i`ve got one problem. Problem with properly display of result of query in AS3 by using ArrayCollection.
    When i check my service in "amfphp/browser/" in web browser i`ve got this (with all needed data):
    (mx.collections::ArrayCollection)#0
    filterFunction = (null)
    length = 2
    list = (mx.collections::ArrayList)#1
    length = 2     source = (Array)#2
    That is the reason that i suppose that service work fine.  Problem is when i try to display result in AS3. In actionscript i have got this:
    function getNewsListHandler(result:Object):void{
    trace(result);
    This function displays: [object Object].
    I know that "result" is an ArrayCollection type but i don`t know how to get rows and columns from this. I know that my data is there but i have no idea how to get it.
    Clarify: I don`t know how to get to Arrays and simple data variables which are in ArrayCollection.
    Could anyone help me with that problem. I would be gratefull
    P.S. I tried also change query type in service.PHP for mysql_fetch_query but in that case i`ve got only one row (not all data).

    Thanks for fast reply,
    arr_coll:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection ({col1:"data1",col2:"data2"}, {col1:"data3",col2:"data4"});
    you would get the data like
    var resultstr:String = arr_coll[1][1].col2;
    trace(resultstr);
    //results in data4
    could you explain me how it was happen (arr_coll[1][1].col2)? It`s not clear to me. I thought in this case rather something like this :
    var resultstr:String = arr_coll[1]['col2'];
    It should give me "data4". I know it wasn`t but i don`t understand ArrayCollection in level which is needed to use your advice in my case. Could you clarify "arr_coll[1][1].col2" a bit?
    What would it look like when you would have something like this:
    arr_coll:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection ({col1:"data1",col2:"data2"}, {col1:"data3",col2:"data4"},{col1:"data5",col2:"data6"},{col1:"data7",col2:"data8"});
    and you would want know f.e. position in ArrayCollection of  "data6". How would you code this? arr_coll[1][2].col2?
