Rotate and edit videos

Im searching for a good app to rotate and edit videos I've taken. Im affraid to purchase any of them I get in search. imove and rotate HD came up. I go upon the rating but looking at them it seems the developers of those apps rate them to make them look better. When I actually read and research the apps they arent that great and have a lot of flaws.  I dont want to waist the time and money. From the looks of it all Apple doesnt test these apps thoroughly, which is ashame. Does anyone have any real suggestions?

Rediculous comment, even from a Windows user.
For an Apple user this is easy, as described below. For Windows please ask the question on a Microsoft forum.
You can do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
Window -> Show Movie Properties
select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
FILE -> Save
You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21859
Also, MPEG Streamclip can rotate video while maintaining the aspect ratio as well as the interlacing when converting to DV, which is what iMovie prefers as an input:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
There is also a plug-in for iMovie from GeeThree called rotate/scale that might do the job:

  • Video Format Total Solution: How to Convert and Edit Video on Windows/Mac

More and More video formats are coming out with different video encoders and it makes our spare time more and more colorful. However, it is not to say that there is no problems. Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
For Windows users, you need a Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html) to do that for you.
Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html)
Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
You just need to click “next” and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/screen.jpg
    Step 2: Load Video
Click “Add File” to find the video that you want to convert and click “open”. It will be loaded automatically.
Step 3: Select the target to decode
In the “Profile” drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the “iPod” in the first list and “iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)” in the second list.
    Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
After you select the right output profile, you can click “setting” button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change “video encoder”, “resolution”, “frame rate”, “video bitrate”In audio section, you can change “audio encoder”, “sample rate”, “channel”, “audio bitrate”If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click “save as” button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named “user defined”.
    Step 5: Choose a Destination
To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
Finally, Click “Convert” button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
interface you can choose “shut down the computer when conversion complete” or “open output folder when conversion complete” or you just do not choose neither one.
Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/effect.jpg
    1. Effect:
You are allowed to adjust the “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Saturation” and you can choose the “deinterlacing” to make the video more enjoyable.
    2. Trim:
In “Trim” section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
    3. Crop:
This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. For example, you just like the tv in the middle of the screen, then you can drag the frame around the preview window to select the tv and the output preview will show you the output video. In this section you can also choose the “zoom mode”, such as “keep original”, “full screen”, “16:9”, “4:3”.
    4. Watermark
In the section, you can add a watermark on the output video to show people something, such as your name, website, studio name or other things. The watermark could be words and picture. You can adjust the transparent of the watermark easily to make it more beautiful.
Part 2. How to Convert Video on Mac
This time you need a Video Converter for Mac(http://www.aiseesoft.com/video-converter-for-mac.html)
    Step 1: Add File
Click “Add File” button to load the video you want to converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/mac-video-converter/steps.jpg
Step 2: Choose profile and adjust settings
You can find your output video format from a drop-list called “Profile”You can also adjust the specific settings of the output video, such as “Resolution”, “Bitrate”, “Encoder” and so on.

  • Which Macbook Pro should I buy for recording, making music and editing videos?

I really have a huge interest in music and editing videos and I want to make it as a part of my career so I want to start making some videos/music videos, etc. I have an iMac, but I share with my whole family, so I don't really have the time and I don't have the privacy that I need. I was thinking about buying a PC but that gets viruses easily unlike the Mac OS. I really hope someone could help me. I was thinking about the 13 inch Macbook Pro with Retina display (8GB Memory and 500+ Flash Storage). That's what I could afford right now.
    Thanks.

Based on reports here and elsewhere, I'm not sure buying a Retina MBP is such a great investment of your money as Retina Displays make much higher demands on the systems... and provide a lower overall performance with CPU/Sub Systems intensive and timing reliant/critical applications such as Logic Pro X
While I understand the 'draw' of Laptops.. because of their portability etc... there are drawbacks that should be taken into account too.. and compared to a similar priced iMac/Mac Mini.... you get much better power/cost ration with an iMac/Mac Mini than you will ever get with a MBP....
Simply put you will spend roughly twice as much for a MBP compared to an iMac/Mac Mini to obtain the same performance... and while Retina does provide for a very good clear screen... the overheads that places on the systems of a MBP.. can often outweigh its real benefits when used with an App like LPX where Retina really serves no useful purpose/benefits....... especially for the extra cost.
Example..My nearly 3 year old 3.4Ghz i7 32GB iMac which cost less by some degree as my top of the range 2013 2.5 Ghz i7 16GB MBP with Retina..  'smokes' the MBP so easily..... when using identical versions of LPX/LP9 under Mavericks.. Even my 2010 Mac Mini Server 2.0 Ghz 16GB gives the MBP a good run for it's money in comparision.. and that cost me less than $800 plus Monitor!
Note: This is just a personal opinion and should be viewed as such....

  • CS3 rotating and cropping video

    Hi there
Please can someone help me? I have a video sequence that I need to rotate and then export as a MPEG file. I have managed to rotate it and crop it, however I still have large black margins. I want to show this video in a powerpoint presentation and I cannot get rid of the black margins at all. I am going crazy!!
    Thanks
    Dylan

[Due to a forum error during moderator editing, Harm's reply was lost.  Here is the text of his reply, edited for content.]
    Export dimensions are 323 x 480 pixels
    followed by:
    NTSC, 352x240, 29.97 non-drop frame [FPS], progressive, quality 5
    which is utterly inconsistent.

  • Using an external hard drive to store and edit videos?

    Hi
I have read many articles that suggest placing all video projects/events in an external hard drive to save space on my Mac Book or Mac Air.
    I just ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Ultra-Portable/dp/B00E055H5O/ref= sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1429627818&sr=1-…
So, how should I format/set up the external?
If I save projects/events on the external, can I come back and edit projects/events that only live in the external drive?
I also want to be able to take the external to whomever's computer to import videos shot by other cameras stored in other peoples computers. Is this ok?
I would be using either iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
    Thank you.
    Sebastian

To add to Karsten's post - Libraries on an external drive behave just the same as those on the boot drive.  (Like many people, I have all of mine on an external drive).
If you connect the external drive to another computer to use with iMovie or FCPX make sure that the other computer is using exactly the same version of iMovie or FCPX.   This because some updates to both programs (even minor 'third-digit' updates) have required events from earlier versions to be updated.  This cannot be reversed and updated events will no longer work with earlier versions.

  • Importing and editing video from DSLRs onto iPad 2

    Hi,
I'm reading that it's not possible to import video direct from a DSLR (Nikon D7000 or Olympus Pen, for example) onto the iPad 2, and edit, then export.
    Is this the case?
I'd like to be able to work remotely, taking stills and video (with audio) that I can then edit on the iPad and upload.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers!

Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 7 (presumed 64 bit).....
    1. Music files and error message...are these music files from iTunes? If so, convert them to .wav in iTunes to convert them to wav version, and then import the .wav version into Premiere Elements 13 project using Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the wav version to the Soundtrack.
The following are the instructions for the iTunes converting
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1550
If any problems with the instructions, please let me know, and I will go through them with you.
    2. How you set up the project and the export settings that you select greatly influence your end product result.
    a. What are the properties of the source media?
    b. What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of the source media.
(If you do not know, please tell us what you see for the readings of Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio - even
if the fields look grayed out.)
    c. For your export...Publish+Share/Computer/and then what? And what preset? Did you use the default settings of the preset or did you
customize the export settings of the preset under the preset's Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
Let us start here and then decide what next.

  • How best to Convert, and edit video tape to digital

I want to convert, and edit VHS and Betamax video tapes to digital. My research indicates that there are a number of ways to achieve this, including:
    1. A video recorder with a hard disk and DVR (Which?)
    2. The "pass through" feature on a MiniDV camcorder (Discussion Sites)
    3. EyeTV 250 Plus (Magazine)
    4. Canopus' (ADVC300), which “cleans and stabilises analogue video before conversion so the digital is a higher quality than the original analogue” (Magazine and Discussion Sites)
Some claim that an S-video connection is essential for best results.
Can an expert advise the best solution?

I have a Canopus ADVC-300 that I use when digitizing VHS and Hi8 material.
It works quite well. The included software allows you to adjust the quality of the image as it is being converted.
Connect the tape deck to the ADVC-300 using SVHS cable and an audio RCA cable then firewire between the ADVC-300 and your mac. Turn on everything and launch iMovie to capture the playing video stream.
If you have technical questions regarding iMovie and or iDVD, each has a specific forum here on the Apple Discussions site.
    Good luck,

  • What type of mac do i need for home use to watch and edit videos

What type / power of MAC do i need for home use to watch and edit vedeos as well as basic computer work?

Any of the new Macs for home - iMac or MacBook Pro are even fine. You don't need a 65lb workstation tower. If you want a tower for how well and long they hold up, and can be upgraded, that is another matter and fine and might be overkill at first.
Even the base Mac Pro will get you there.

  • The 3 balls won't rotate and copy videos?

    Hello,
For some reason my firefox went back to defaults and now I can't copy videos. The balls won't rotate. I have download helper 5.1 and fire fox 37?

You can check for problems with preferences.
You can try to edit the prefs.js file with Firefox closed and remove all lines that refer to extensions.dwhelper prefs.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Resetting_preferences
You can also try to click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window or delete the xulstore.json file.
*"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
    *View > Toolbars > Customize
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete possible addons.json and addons.sqlite files.

  • Managing and editing videos

My wife and I took videos on our iphones.  She imported hers to the computer and I put them into itunes and then syned with my phone so her videos are now in my "videos" app, and mine are in my camera roll.  I have and want to use the imovie app to edit make a video with all of the clips, but this app pulls only the videos from my camera roll.  How can I get all the videos in my camera roll?  If I put them all on my PC, is there any freeware that is a decent video editor?
    Thanks!!
    Eddie

Are they only shooting 4:3 or 16:9 anamorphic? No awkward frame rates like 24pA?
get them a DSR-11 DV deck or, if they have two cameras, a firewire cable so that they can use one camera as the playback and the other as the record in a camera to camera dub.
I wouldn't trust images of my dog to a canon z series.

  • Downloading and editing video footage with different audio channels

Hi out there, I usually created photo montages in my iMovie & iDVD, but I have been given the task to edit an event and I believe that there might be an hour to 2 hours of footage. What I would like to know is, how do I focus on the wireless audio when needed and then use the regular audio at other times. I am about to download the footage and would like to make sure that I download it properly and then be able to use the audio as I see fit... ( will I even be able to use the different audio channels) I hope that I am making sense, any suggestions?! THANKS!

The "baked in" audio which is part of the video will sit "inside" the video clips. That audio can be faded up and down as needed.
You'll need to separately import your "wireless" audio if it was recorded onto a separate device such as a mini-disc recorder or somesuch, and it'll then sit in one of the two separate audio tracks. You can also fade that up and down as needed.
IF, however, the "wireless" audio was recorded straight into the camera, via a wireless receiver attached to the cam, then that'll also come in as part of the normal video (see 1st paragraph, above).
So - in that case - to "unravel" or separate the camera's own and the "wireless" audio will only be possible if they were each mono signals, recorded separately to the left and right channels of the camcorder's single stereo track, e.g; camera's mike on left channel, additional "wireless" audio on right channel.
If this was a professional camcorder, like a Canon XLH1, into which you can feed 4 channels at recording time, you won't be able to separate those two pairs of stereo after importing into iMovie, unless you import them separately ..e.g; camera Channels 1 & 2 as an integral part of the video import, and then Channels 3 & 4 imported separately afterwards, into one of the separate audio tracks.
iMovie has no way of separating audio - apart from left and right stereo channels which can easily be done in GarageBand ..or in another external audio editor program. There's no way to "unbake" 4 separate channels of audio within a video clip and to separate them once the video's been imported ..when all audio then appears as simply left and right channels of a stereo signal. You can extract audio from a clip, but you can't separate individual components of the audio, apart from prising apart the left and right channels, no matter how many audio tracks are available ..such as the two extra tracks in iMovie.
You don't say (a) which camcorder(s) had been used for shooting the material, and (b) whether the "wireless" recording was fed into the camera, or was recorded separately.
If you provide further exact details I may be able to help more..

  • What's the difference between editing film and editing video in FCP?

I see some shows on t.v. like Intervention, Cold Case Files,
and others, that I know are edited on FCP, but they look like film,
    not video.
Is there some special skill or different hardware/software necessary to edit one over the other?
    thanks

I'm guessing that you can't capture film into FCP unless
    it's transfered to video ... correct?<
Well, not exactly. You could capture film directly into FCP if you had the proper equipment. Not many people have that hardware, expensive and tedious. We pay someone to do it for us. Telecine can be delivered on tape or as digital files. One captures from tape, one ingests digital files.
It's also possible to make video look like film. But do not post that question, google it. There are hundreds of sites devoted to the discussion.
