Rotate display is gone  from Display-Preferences

I've had my new MacBook for a week connected to a DVI Samsung 17" LCD monitor. A couple of days ago I lost the portrait mode on the Samsung and checked the Diplay control in System Preferences. The Rotate tool is gone and only "show display in menu bar" is there.
In doing all the Software Updates is it likely that 10.4.10 knocked out this capability on the MacBook? Has anyone else lost the potrait view on their second desktop? Pity, if so; it's one of the reasons I bought the MacBook over the Pro.

I use a samsung DVI 19" LCD external display. On my display preferences the show display in menu bar is on the display control for the MacBook. It is not on the display preferences for the external display. In that window is where my rotate is. I also am running 10.4.10 and mine still works perfectly.

  • Blackberry 8330 icons are gone from display, no menu, nothing. Help

As of 10/10/2011 all my icons are gone from my main display screen EXCEPT Applications (which doesn't open anything if I click on it--in fact I then lose that icon as well) and the Profiles icon.  A hard reset doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

    Hello,
There is no Autoloader to remove from your device...Autoloaders are apps on the PC that load, to the device, a specific OS package. But the Autoloader itself is not resident on the device at all. So, your remedy would most likely to be to use a different AutoLoader for a different OS level and see if that does not display this same problem for you.
You did not reveal the specific OS level you are discussing...please note that if it is anything beyond the presently officially released levels (e.g., a "leak"), then it is not supported and is also against the Ts and Cs of this site to be discussed here.
    Good luck!

  • Vertical lines in calendar gone from display

The most common format for calendars is for each day to be bordered by horizontal and vertical lines, in Month view. This is indeed how my calendar month looks when printed. However, vertical lines are gone when viewed on my MacBook Pro display (Calendar v. 7.0 and OSX 10.9.5). It bothers me, in the same way a wristwatch with tic marks, instead of numbers on the dial, requires more attention. Someone said to me " I have vertical lines on my calendar." Did Apple omit the vertical lines from Calendar month view or is this abnormal. Can I get my vertical lines back?
    Thanks
    H

No,  very uncommon.  Only seen same on a very few older Airs.   Possible break in the monitor cable to your LCD LED backlit monitor. Also possible is bad connector at logic board to monitor cable on female connector on logic to cable. Also possible is bad GPU (still logic).  Either way its only 2 possibilities on parts.
If you're in warranty. thats great.
Backup ALL data to external HD....and make a call for warranty work on your Air.
The Air is very easy to service to replace parts for same.  Your down time should be minimal.

  • Cookies options gone from Safari Preferences Security

I have been having weird glitches with Safari for the past few days.  I cleared the cache (several times) and went to dump cookies - and all of the cookies-related options seem to be missing.  In Safari>Preferences>Security, the middle section of the box that includes options for accepting cookies and to view cookies is not there anymore.  In Safari>Reset Safari, the button for Remove Cookies is gone, though the rest of the list appears to be there.
I clean out cookies semi-regularly, and the options were all there over the weekend.
    Any thoughts?

We are on Safari 5.1 here, the cookies are in the Privacy pane.
Overwrite/install Safari here, then apply Software Update under the Apple menu to make sure
    https://www.apple.com/safari/
Then run ALL the cleaning and maintainance steps of the free OnyX and reboot.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Then download the free Easy Find and delete all folders called "Macromedia" (it's your Flash cookies etc)
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/EasyFind.app.zip
Reinstall your Flash here to rebuild
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
That shoudl clean you out good
If you need more cookie and privacy control, you just have to go with Firefox + Adblock Plus, Ghostery, BetterPrivacy, Click&Clean and even NoScript (drag a temporarily allow all button to the toolbar)

  • Built in microphone option gone from system preferences.

I was having trouble trying to connect my guitar to the mac pro and i had to mess with the sound and the system preferences.
The Built-in microphone option on system preferences is gone. How do i get it back?

Try this Reset and look for it in About this Mac > System Report > Audio
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

  • Bitrate set-up has gone from iTunes preferences

While browsing iTunes features on my Mac being provoked by my aroused interest in the formats that iTunes can play I noticed that in the Playback Tab of iTunes Preferences I don't see the options of setting bitrates for playing imported tracks (that is, not bought in iTunes Store) anymore. All that's remained are the quality options for video playback, but not those for audio. Why is it so and is it possible to change bitrate preferences?
Thanks for your support and knowledge.

Go to preferences- general preferences- "when a cd is inserted" import settings

  • Internal speakers and audio output gone from System preferences

i can't get macbookpro 2010 to recognize internal speakers and audio output. only optical OUTPUT. CAN'T GET ANY SOUND EXCEPT FOR OPTICAL PORT

yes it is on, i have tried reinserting headphone plugs to possibly release micro switch but no avail. i tried resetting PRAM and that also did not work. this just happened over the last day or so. can't figure out what made it do this. i have no optical device, so the switch shouldn't have triggered.

  • Cinema display serial number from plist

Hi, I need help getting my cinema display serial number from an old Plist file.  My office was broken into recently and someone made off with the monitor.  It's a long shot but I thought I could find the serial number for the campus police.  I was able to find an old com.apple.windowserver.plist file that had some information for the display.  I tried the command <defaults read ./com.apple.windowserver.plist> and came up with the following.  Problem is they don't look like serial numbers for a cinema display.  Any suggestions?
                    DisplayID = 69530633;
                    DisplayProductID = 37430;
                    DisplaySerialNumber = 42039688;
                    DisplayVendorID = 1552;

    Hi ,
Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist. Open this with TextWrangler or a similar utility. Look for a DisplaySerialNumber key with an integer value that isn't 0. With any luck, this should be the s/n of your display.
If you haven't used this display for a while, the records of it may be gone.
Also, it appears that this isn't guaranteed. Double-check if possible.

  • External display resolution changes after returning from display sleep

I often use an external display as a second screen with my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.8.2)  However, when I return to the computer after the display has gone to sleep, the external display resolution changes when the display reappears.  Then I have to go into System Preferences > Display and "Detect Displays" in order to return the external display to the proper resolution.
Does anybody know of a way for me to avoid having to do this every time my display sleeps?
    Thank you,
    Adam

I have the exact same problem.
I found the key combination ⌘ alt F2 also restores the proper resolution on both displays, however it's still a bit annoying

  • Rotate TV 90 degrees and display images properly?

I would like to rotate our LG HDTV to Vertical orientation (not the traditional horizontal orientation), and display the images from an Apple TV in the vertical orientation. Is this possible? I know that I can rotate images on my MacPro monitor (Cinema display) by 90, 180, or 270 degrees. This is the sort of control I would like from an Apple TV when output to the Vertical standing HDTV.

While you could easily turn the Tv and have any Portrait photos rotated landscape to view on a tv in portrait mode, AppleTV itself will not natively support display rotation - the photos properly tagged would show ok but menu would be all wrong and not rotated. You'd be better using a Mac Mini or other computer that allowed display rotation - use a DVI to HDMI adapter.

  • Desktop files disappeared from displaying on the Desktop

My existing Desktop files disappeared from displaying on the Desktop--the files still exist, and newly added files appear on the Desktop; I did not enter any "hide my files" command. How do I have them display? Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Working on "thing 1" on Macbook Pro and Displaying "thing 2" from same Macbook Pro?

to start off, I have a MacBoko Pro 13-inch (early 2011) running 10.10.2 (OS X Yosemite). The processor is 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 and the graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.
I need help with displaying other content on a second display. I would like to work from my MacbookPro, but display different work (content) on a second display (A HD 32" Vizio) using a lightening bolt to HDMI cable. Is this possible? I've been playing around with the "extended display" settings and "Dashboard" settings, but I can't figure it out. Hopefully there's an answer out there.
    Lucas

Alright, figured it out. Not sure how to delete this thread.
If someone else is wondering. I figured out you need to go to System Preferences -- > Display -- > arrangement and make sure the "mirror" box is unchecked. Then arrange the displays the way you'd like. Mine are side by side (some people might like them stacked). You can then enter "Mission Control" and drag the windows you'd like to display to your second display. You can control each display by sliding your mouse to the edge of the screen (according to the way you previously arranged them, Mine are side by side to I slide my mouse all to the right to enter one display, and all to the left to enter second display). Then its like a normal computer!
This is probably old news to a lot of people, but obviously some people don't know it haha.
    Its been a good day!
