  • Safari freezes for a minute or two and there's a rotating color wheel

    Quite often, when going to different websites and stuff, Safari will freeze up, and there will be a rotating color wheel, and then after a couple minutes it will load the page. It's pretty annoying and I'd like to get it fixed. It's a Macbook Pro with the Snow Leopard update on Mac OS X. I'm pretty new to Macs(just got this about 2 weeks ago). Any help would be great. Thanks!

    HI... welcome to Apple Discussions and congrats on our new Mac!
    Use Open DNS
    Click the computer icon and follow the instructions.
    Also, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache
    and... from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
    And...
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
    4. Restart Safari and restart your Mac.

    If Safari freezes up when visiting sites with Flash content, try Uninstalling the current Flash Player Plugin, then reinstall new.
    How to uninstall and reinstall Flash Player plugin:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
    When you are finished uninstalling the old Flash plugin, go here and install a fresh copy
    of Flash Player plugin
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    As with any installations, repair disk permissions.
    Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Since upgrading to 10.8, my mouse scroll wheel works in reverse.  When I rotate the wheel towards me, the page scrolls up.  Can this be configured or fixed?  It is not an apple mouse.

    Have been happily using a Microsoft optical wheel mouse with my 27" iMac for a year or so.  Just upgraded the OS to 10.8.4.
    Now, when I rotate the scroll wheel towards myself, instead of scrolling down the page, it scrolls up.  Microsoft doesn't yet have a driver for
    anything past 10.7.  Can this be configured somehow to act as it used to?

    Many thanks!  I clicked the link Barney-15E provided, and found this page:

    There is a free app out there that fixes this. I tried it and it does what we want.
    http://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/
    It took about 2 seconds to download the app, install it, and be back to normal mouse wheel behavior.
    I'm grateful for the help.

  • How to correctly rotate a wheel menu

    hi,
    i have a ring shaped menu with 7 entries on it (see attached image).  when the mous is over it it rotates depending on mouse position.  and when 1 entry is seleceted, i want it to rotate back to a certain angle so that such selection appears on top of it (12:00 .on a clock).   i have an array with the corresponding rotations for each entry.  but i would like it to rotate through the shortest way and i simply can't find it!.  logic says: if destinationAngle>currentAngle rotate+, but this doesn't care for the 180/-180 passage.  any ideas?  thank you in advance,  fabec.

    it was actually the other way round: going from 0 to 250, not 250 to 0...
    but, never mind here is the code concerned, hope it will helps.  sorry i just don't know how to format it properly in this forum:
    // if the distance between the wheel and the mouse is under 190, the wheel rotates with mouse position
    if (distance<190) {
         rotatingClip._rotation -= (rotatingClip._parent._xmouse-rotatingClipCenterX)/100;
         midO = false;
    } else {
         var wheelCurrentRotation:Number = rotatingClip._rotation;
         var targetRotation:Number = arrayWithTargetRotations[menuItemSelected];
         var wheelCurrentRotationModulo:Number = (wheelCurrentRotation+360)%360;
         var targetRotationModulo:Number = (targetRotation+360)%360;
         switch (true) {
              // if current rotation is within 20 degrees of the target, the target rotation is appplied and rotation stopped
              case (wheelCurrentRotationModulo+10>=targetRotation && wheelCurrentRotationModulo-10<=targetRotation) :
                   rotatingClip._rotation = targetRotation;
                   midO = true;
                   break;
              //THIS IS THE PART WHERE I HAVE THE PROBLEM:  WHAT IS THE SHORTTEST WAY FROM MY CURRENT POSITION TO MY TARGET
              //WHAT DIRECTION TO SPIN??
              case (targetRotation-wheelCurrentRotationModulo<180 && midO == false) :
                   rotatingClip._rotation -= incr/2;
                   break;
              case (targetRotation-wheelCurrentRotationModulo>180 && midO == false) :
                   rotatingClip._rotation += incr/2;
                   break;

  • What happened to the wheel in Mail?

    The little rotating indicator wheel which used to be a feature of "Mail" has gone. It was so very useful when you have a slow connection and without it I can not see whether The Mail app is attempting to send mail or not. Neither can I see when the app is attempting to receive incoming mail and on which of my accounts? It has also disappeared from "classic view" which means that the "classic view is not actually the classic view"!
    Is there a way to get my wheel back? Reinventing the wheel would have been OK but removing it makes no sense!

    Yup, it's gone. I miss it, too. And so do a lot others, there are already several threads here. But none of us has managed to bring it back. Feedback -> Apple.

  • How do I "Open In New Tab" by wheel click (like in Windows)?

    I have a Microsoft Trackball Explorer (though I imagine this pertains to ANY mouse). In Windows if I click on a link with the wheel it open it in a tab. Not sure if this was a driver feature or what, bit it sure was handy. In OS X clicking the wheel goes to "the next app" and rotating the wheel scrolls through apps like CMD-Tab. It's actually kinda cool but not what I want.

    In Safari Preferences>General - select "open windows...in new tab". When you select a link, hold down the apple key while clicking. See if that creates a new tab.
    The "create new Tab" feature in Safari does not always work when selecting a link. To compliment the tab feature, I use the 3rd party add-on SAFT. One of its many useful features is "always open browser window in tab". I find it works very consistently and reliably.

  • Rotating image affects location

    Following up on the animated half image and placing labels on the curve I finally got the layout right. Though the curious thing is, when rotating the wheel, the control y position changes.
    First I thought that this might be a similar effect, that could be solved with setting the inset, but that is not true.
    My theory is that, as the image is square, when the square rotated by 45 degrees the height is larger. How can I counteract this. I tried to update the translateY property but that had no effect.

    What I have figured out so far is the following: As the image is basically a rectangle, when rotating the square by 45° it's height is larger than unrotated. This application demonstrates it:

    What seems inconsistent that the clipping initialized with half the height in the unrotated state, will always clip half the height. I would have expected to only get the the top 200 pixels of the image irrelevant of the current state of the rendering.
    But the basic question is: How can I figure out the current height? The boundsInLayout will always return the same value. I could calculate the height of the visible part using the angle of the rotation but would like to avoid that.
    If I get the current height I can apply a second clip which basically translated the the whole thing. While this may not make sense for this example, my use case involves an image with a centered circle, so the most top visible part of the image will always be at the same height above the (clipped) bottom line.

  • Spinning a wheel, randomly stops and then takes you to another frame.

    I would like to be able to spin a wheel in flash, this wheel has 8 sections to it split up equally, it spins for a random amount of time, 3 - 7 seconds and then stops. the section which lands on the marker is the result and will take you to a specific frame. Also i would like it when it stops to gradually slow down however this is not vital.
    this code works for just rotating a wheel but i want to know how to randomly stop it and how to take it to another frame.
    onClipEvent (enterFrame){
    this.ang=ang+0.01;
    _alpha=190*Math.sin(this.ang)+190;
    _rotation++;
    _xscale=260*Math.sin(this.ang)+1900;
    i do not know a lot of coding, so do not use complicated words and if you could post how to do this it would help alot.
    thanks

  • What is the color wheel

    What is the revolving color wheel that indicates my system in locked up?

    The Spinning Wheel Of Death
    The spinning wait cursor or spinning disc pointer — where your mouse pointer becomes the rotating color wheel or "spinning beach ball" seen above — generally indicates that your Mac® is engaged in a processor-intensive activity. For example, applying a Gaussian blur to an image in Adobe® Photoshop® is a processor-intensive activity.
    In most cases, the "beach ball" disappears within several seconds. However, there are cases when the "beach ball" spins protractedly, a condition colloquially known as "The Spinning Beach Ball of Death"

  • Using the control wheel

    I want to use the control wheel to move backward and forward. My concern there is in listening to audiobooks (its not such a big deal for songs). I am a newbie to the control wheel, the display switches back and forth from showing the volume, and the place in the song. If I move my finger on the control wheel, the display will immediately go to the volume, and start adjusting that. How do I change the location in my song (or book)????

    Hit the center button while the song is playing and it will display progress of the song. Rotate the "wheel" left or right to change the progress in the song. It will automatically shift back to the display of song title and name. Next time you go to turn the "wheel" it will change the volume so you will have to repeat the process of hitting the center button to adjust song progress. It should work the same for books although I have not tried.

  • Possible temporary fix for mouse scroll wheel problem in Lion

         This is a potential temporary fix for those users of Lion who are unable to fix the reversed mouse scroll wheel issue. I myself have a Microsoft Arc Mouse (not the touch version but the original version) and when I went into the mouse system preferences there was no checkmark box option to return the scroll wheel to its original configuration. When I called Apple about it I was told it's an issue with Lion not recognizing the mouse as being able to reverse the scroll wheel and that Microsoft will need to update the firmware to allow for this change. On a whim, I tried out my wife's Logitech mouse (can't remember the model but it's a fairly recent one) and checked the system preferences. This time there was the checkmark box to allow the scroll wheel to be returned to its original configuration and I could use the scroll wheel as normal. When I plugged my Arc Mouse back in, the scroll wheel had reverted to its original configuration of rotate the wheel down for down scroll and up for up scroll.
         So, for those of you who are unable to correct your scroll wheel through preferences, you might want to try plugging in another mouse, making the correction in system preferences, and then plug your original mouse back in.

    I mean it. Apple makes major changes in the way things have worked for years, then makes that change the default, causing 1m people to struggle. Bad Bad App le.
    There other changes like this in Lion as well, which are arbitrary and are "App le" policy now, which even App le themselves do not follow! (e.g. Cmd-Delete for "Don't Save" in a few App le applications, where 900 million people have used Cmd-<first letter of button> already, for years)
    And yes, I did have to go next door and borrow a mouse. "Why?" they said... "I have a Mac" I said. "<laughter> get a real computer" they said. App le does itself no favors by pulling this stuff.
    Many of us cannot buy new equipment when arbitrary changes are made, and "get a new driver" is a slap in the face, especially when such changes as Reversing scroll for many-millions could easily be done by making the "new way" an Option, not a default.
    Don't get me wrong, Mac and iPhone etc are way ahead of MS and all, but the rabid arrogance inside App le is App aulling.

  • CSS rotate with origin

    I'm new in Edge. Need to rotate a wheel with the origin information. I set a button on my stage for the click event code I write this.
