Rotating an image within a clipping path in Photoshop CS5

When you have taken a photo of an image, then open it up in     Photoshop and realise its on a bit of an angle but you make a clipping path     around it first and save it, then afterwards want to rotate it - Is there a     way of linking the path with the image layer so they rotate together in     one step?,
Or can you only rotate the image layer first then the path separately as     thats what I ended up doing?
Hoping someone can help me and answer my question

If your clipping path is stored in the Paths panel, then no. But you can select the path then go to Layer > Vector Mask > Current Path. Not transform the layer and the path is transformed, too. You can then open the Paths panel and drag the vector path onto the New Path button to duplicate it and make it a clipping path for the entire image.

    What do you mean by "a Path Layer was created"?  Path are in the path palette, there is a path in shape layers and they is a path in a vector layer mask. I have never seen a reference to a path layer before this.  When a path in the path palette is selected activate it wall also be shown in the image window.  Does not matter if there is a targeted layer or not.  Control points may or may not be displayed. Using Path tool you can select and select segments and show some or all control points, Path are editable.
    View the following image in a new tab and scale to actual pixels for a clear image this site scales image poorly.

  • Clipping paths in photoshop .... imported to indesing

    I have a catalog I am doing. I have not wokred with clipping paths in years. I am clueless on what is going on here. Can someone look at this photoshop image and tell me how to import it into indesign without the black background? THe photographer said she made them all with clipping paths in photoshop. I have no idea what to do I have tried what I researched but I see no path and would prefer to find out here what the answer is rather than going back to her and looking like a dummy.
    Thank you

    Thats exactly what I have been doing but I am now running behind on the project because I took 10 hours to do that stuff when the client thinks they did it already... : (
    I will have a discussion with them about it... thank you for your help!

  • Cutting out images in indesign, clipping path problems

    Hi,
    I have been putting images of my drawings from photoshop onto indesign for my portfolio,  after looking around the only way I can seem to find to cut them out is using clipping path/detect edges.
    The problem I have is because they are scanned sketches this method produces really inacurate and shoddy results and no matter how much I play around with the threshold and tollerance this means I still have to mess around with the pen and arrow tool for ages on each image.
    Is there a quicker solution to cutting them out like the magic wand or lasoo tool on indesign?
    It has taken days now in in design , I have all the images already cut out from their original pages on photoshop but the white box always comes around again when I drag or place the images in indesign.
    I have been shorcutting some pages and doing layout on photoshop and placing the image behind which works fine sometimes but is really inconviiant when I want to move the layout around text ot anything...... i have attatched some pictures to show you what I mean.
    Thanks for your help in advance

    Well Thats 2 days of my life Ill never get back!

  • Interior clipping paths in photoshop image dont show up in Quark

    Iv'e added a clipping path to image that has interior paths (inside the main clipping path)
    I save as clipping path and save image as an eps.
    When I import the image into Quark XPress and place over colored background the interior paths are not clipping out (punching out) to see the background color.
    The clipping path shows up in the Quark document but doesn't punch out when I export as a pdf.
    This is also happening when I import the image into InDesign and make a pdf.
    Any thoughts?

    In your tools panel are these icons … . Select your paths with the Path Selection Tool (black arrow) and make sure you have used the correct "path area" option for each individual path.

  • Script to Sort Images with/without Clipping Paths?

    I've searched for a while and can't find a script that will sort a folder of images into two new folders that contain images with and without clipping paths. Anyone have or know of a script that will do this for me? I'd would greatly appreciate it. W7, PS CS5 32 and 64 bit.
    Thanks in advance!
    Andy

    Hi Andy, Mike has a function to check for clipping groups but requires the file to be open...
    // Function: clippingPathIndex
    // Description: Gets the index of the activeDocument's clipping path
    // Usage: clippingPathIndex()
    // Input: None
    // Return: Index as Integer. -1 if there is no clipping path
    function clippingPathIndex(){
         var ref = new ActionReference();
              ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID("Dcmn"), charIDToTypeID("Ordn"), charIDToTypeID("Trgt") );
         var desc = executeActionGet( ref );
         var clippingPath =  desc.getObjectValue(charIDToTypeID("Clpg"));
         return  clippingPath.getInteger(charIDToTypeID("ClpI" ));
    I think it should be possible to check the files without opening them using Bridge, looking at the Photoshop File Format it says....
    If the file contains a resource of type 8BIM with an ID of 2999, then this resource contains a Pascal-style string containing the
    name of the clipping path to use with this image when saving it as an EPS file. 4 byte fixed value for flatness and 2 byte fill rule.
    0 = same fill rule, 1 = even odd fill rule, 2 = non zero winding fill rule. The fill rule is ignored by Photoshop.
    I will see if I have time today to put something together for you.

  • How do I save a clipping path in Photoshop so that Quark gives me the option to change the path opti

    I created a clipping path on a photo, clipping out a person's head so that I can have the person's head show up over the masthead on a cover.
    But when I save the photo in Photoshop and then import it into Quark, the option where it says I can change the clipping options in Quark is greyed out.
    This is what it says to possibly fix it on the Quark help page:
    "You may want to choose "None" from the Clipping path pop-up menu when you save the image from Adobe Photoshop, so you can specify which path to use as the clipping path when you import the image into QuarkXPress. Or, you may want to choose a path from the Clipping path pop-up menu, so you can be sure only that path will be used to clip the image."
    I don't understand what that refers to....I can't find anything like that in the Photoshop options.
    My goal is to have the person's head over the text, with the rest of the photo still retained in the background. As it is now, I just get an import of the clipping path alone, with Quark substituting the background part of the photo with a white box.
    Thanks!

  • Possible to export clipping path from InDesign CS5?

    I ran into a minor problem. We just upgraded from CS1 to CS5 in our company and at the moment we're quite happy about the change to the more "modern" (if you are getting my hints here).
    Anyhow, before the new install of Adobe CS5 I just recently asked our IT-guy to reformat my pc and re-install Win XP again. I did this so I could start from scratch and eliminate most common pc-errors in the near future (I took over this pc from someone else some time ago who used and installed stuff on it which I didn't know about nor needed).
    Most of my data and files were backed up and re-installed. However, to my great horror I just realized that some of the linked image-files in an InDesign document containing A LOT of clipping paths are no longer listed as linked but missing. I checked and saw that these image-files weren't backed up at all.
    Now the problem isn't getting back these images as I can quickly download and relink them from a number of databases.
    However, these images were all painstakingly cut out in Photoshop by creating clipping-paths for each and every one of them and those clipping-paths are now lost with the deleted files.
    If I check my InDesign file now I can see that every preview still retains the original cutpath from the original (but now deleted) Photoshop file. I have tried to mark this cutpath first, copy it and then tried to see if I could insert it back into an image-file that I opened in Photoshop but this didn't - at least for me - work out.
    My question is now.., can these clipping-paths somehow be saved and re-imported back into Photoshop.
    Any creative, ingenious, cumbersome and even crazy thoughts and methods are very, very welcome as I'd hate to sit down once more and spend hours of re-creating those paths.
    Hoping on some bright brains out there... ;-)
    Thanks for any help in advance.

    You sir, are nothing short of a genius! :-)
    The last solution is exactly what I was looking and hoping for. I realize that this will take some extra time and work but that's a small headache in relation to redrawing each of those clipping-paths. Now that would be a true nightmare as well as it would take much more time.
    The clipping-paths are quite complex as they are drawn around images such as printers, mice, laptops, external harddisks, office-chairs, designer-furnitures (for office use) and the like since this is what our company sells.
    So the solution you suggested works perfect. I am deeply, deeply grateful for your input and time and thank you very, very much for helping out in this time of despair. ;-D
    If I can ever help you or anybody else with a good advice in return (I doubt I will know more than you but I can give it a try) please do not hesitate to contact me. I'd be most happy to do so.
    Allow me to ask you..., are you a private person helping out or are you part of the Adobe-team since it seems that you are well acquainted with the programs and trouble-shooting?

  • How do you make a circle clipping path in PhotoShop CS4?

    All online help that I have found so far, shows me how to hand draw a complex shape. I just need a circle. I can do this in a few minutes in CorelDRAW and Illustrator.
    You must be able to do it in PhotoShop. The end result is - I want it to work like a ship porthole. All you can see is what is behind the port window.
    Thanks!!!!

    Does this help at all??? I skipped CS4
    Can also just add the path in as a vector layer mask
    Save the work path with a name once you have a saved path you can use the path palette's fly-out menu item "Clipping Path".

  • Is it possible to adjust the placement of a still image within a clip in iMovie?

    If I place a portrait format image in iMovie and click "Allow black" the image is automatically centred. I would like to range the still image to the left or right to allow for text etc within the frame, but I can't seem to find anything relating to this.

    Here's one way you could do it.
    First, create a project with just the still images you wan to use in your final project.  Basically a slide show of the images you'll being using with their durations adjusted to approximate what they'll be in the final project.
    Now Share that slideshow using Export using QuickTime and the Movie to Quicktime setting.  Import the resulting movie as a new event in iMovie.
    Next, start your final project.  You'll want to lay down a clip of black first.  If you don't have one lying around you can create on by adding a title with a black background but no text in it.
    Now, with Advanced Tools checkin in iMovie>Preference select on of the still images in the event you just created and place it over the black clip and drop it in as picture in picture.  Using the picture in picture adjustment you can move the still around in the frame.

  • Isoluating images within a clip

    I'm a relatively inexperienced FCP user -- and video editor, for that matter. How do I isolate a person or thing on a clip so that I can create a clip that has just that person or thing moving against a solid background? What's this effect called?

    michael,
    this is a difficult subject with more than one solution. you can key out the background if it's made of a limited amount of color. you can also created animated mattes, a technique known as "roto-scoping" and it's not for the faint of heart. you may combine these techniques depending upon your source footage.
    do a forum and web search to learn about both methods.

    What kind of file will the advanced (more than 4 images) swf convert to play as slideshow for mobile (cell ph) devices?! How many images: 'simple' is only 4 per (swf conversion to dw as quicktime movie) qt movie and it doesn't say advanced (more than 4 images) will convert from swf to dw as qt movie)... Quicktime movie can be converted to h.264 but there's not a mention w/in this video of any of that either: swf files won't play on most IPhs or other mobile devices.

  • Type on a path in photoshop CS5

    I am a new user of Photoshop, and am using CS5.  "I'm working through Classroom in a Book" and following instructions given, and also looking up information and videos on line.
    When I try to type text on a path, I move the cursor till the I cursor has the diagonal/wavy line through it, click and type.  The little round circle with a plus sign in it immediately positions itself right where I am typing, so am lucky if I can see even the first letter typed.  If I keep typing, and then go to the path selection tool, I can make the path long enough to see all I have typed, but this is frustrating.
    In all the videos and instructions, it shows type just going along the path created.
    How can I get it to type on the full length of the line initially, rather than having to type blindly and then stretch it out?
    Thanks

    Hello!
    You should try to decrease the font size before typing.
    Does the CIAB state documents size, resolution, lenght of the path, and font size? Double check that you are following exactly the instructions, and everything should be correct!
    Happy learning!

  • How do I manipulate color after changing an image to halftone with bitmap in Photoshop CS5 and CS6?

    Hi,
    I'm just starting to play with turning into images into halftone image. So far I've learned how to do it 2 ways: 1) using the Pixelate>Halftone filter and 2)Converting the image to grayscale then bitmap>halftone. After either technique, I'm a little lost on how to best changel color - not as whole but to convert different section to different colors - kind of Andy Warhold look. I've tried the history brush. I've dragged it into illustrator (which I tried live trace). But I'm not quite getting the flexibility of just painting different areas different colors. Also, what angles work best to avoid strange grid effects?
    Any techniques or inside advice would be greatly approciated! Thanks, Andrea

    Why not apply the halftone to a duplicate layer, that way, you still retain the colors, you can then allow some or all of the colors to show through, using blend modes, masks or opacity changes.
