Rotating clips?

Is there a way to rotate clips in iMovie that I imported from my video recorder? I am having difficulty doing so. If there is not a way, can it be done in other programs such as final cut express hd?

Rotating clips in Quicktime Pro

I shot a series of clips in which I rotated my GL2 camera to get the subject into the shots without the distracting background. So now my all my clips are imported of course with the subject not right side up. She's shown standing vertically in the clips.
I tried using the GeeThree plug-in to re-angle the shots for right side up, but her head gets chopped off when the effect gets applied. I understand why, but I'm wondering if I could try to do the same thing using Quicktime Pro for better results. I haven't renewed my copy of Quicktime Pro since the last upgrade, but wanted to check if it would solve my problem before purchasing it for the third time.

2ez4u, I'm thinking that if the media you're outputting your video to is not larger than the size of your video that some of that video will be chopped off or the video will be distorted.
My rotated clips are now 560x640. While they look fine in quicktime, I don't think they're going to fit in a standard 640x480 television screen. I'm thinking I might have to put the video inside a matt and save the entire project for viewing.
But, I'm not an expert on this. I'm desperately learning what I need to do because I got a client who wants her video like yesterday, even though we did the shoot on Sunday! Go figure.

Rotating clips in QT PRO

Hi, I did a search for rotating clips in qt pro. I found a lot of people stating that it was possible to rotate clips in QT Pro , but no one describing HOW to do the rotating in QT PRO. Well now that I KNOW that QT PRO can do this, gosh, can anyone please describe HOW this simple procedure is done.

Apple Key + J will open the movies properties.
Click on the video track.
Click on Visual Settings....
Flip/Rotate

I have a plug in for iMovie that does the job, but would prefer to do it directly from FC, rather then transferring clips back and forth. Any suggestions, please?

Switch the View popup on the right at the top of the Canvas to Image+Wireframe.
Go to the edge of the image and the cursor will change in a rotation tool.
Drag the cursor.

Rotating clip in iMovie 3?

I have a video that I shot on a mobile that I would really like to upload onto the internet for my friends to see.
Unfortunately, halfway through the video was accidently flipped upside down by a setting on my phone. I was wondering if I could split the video in two parts in iMovie and flip the last part 180 degrees so that the video plays normally. I have found plug-ins that would allow you to do this but require a later version of iMovie I don't have.
I'm currently running iMovie 3.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.2.8. Does anyone know a way of flipping my video and fixing the problem with my specific specs?

IMovie-how do I rotate clips of photos imported from iPhoto (verions of iMovie is 5.0.2)

I imported photos from iPhoto to iMovie. The photos had the correct orientation (rotation) in iPhoto but in iMovie they have all gone back to their original sideways position. Is there a way to rotate the clips in iMovie, version 5.0.2? I've spent hours on this so really don't want to start over.... please help!!

Imported Rotated Clips get Squished vertically when imported

Had clips taken vertically and used Quick Time Pro to flip 90 degrees and look fine in Quick Time player. But when I put into iMovie and preview they are compressed vertically so everyone looks FAT!! Tried Final Cut Express Classic version and MPEG streamclip but cannot find a solution. I reviewed some similar posts but did not find the solution yet. John

Thank you very much Lennart. Still took me a while to get it right. The trick was to start with the sideways clip, rather than first rotating with Quicktime. When I exported and rotated in one step per the MPEG Streamclip instruction it worked fine and then opened great in iMovie 6. Appreciated quick help!!

How do i apply a widescreen matt to a rotated clip without the matt rotating too?

Hi,
I'm new to this.... but i have a problem...
Basically some of my footage isn't straight and i rotate it a little but obviously i have the black in the gaps where the image has moved.... but to combat that i want to apply a widescreen matte (which is being applied to the rest of the film anyway)..
BUT when i apply to matte it rotates to the image.... is there anyway to stop this?

apply a matte to the layer above.
You can create one in Photoshop,
or download my Letterboxer Plugin (free, and I guess will not work in FCP X. :-(

i tilted my camera 90 degrees while shooting. can imovie hd rotate them automatically or can i do it manually with the program?

You can open the sequence in SimpleMovieX, rotate it 90 degrees (View > Resize Movie...), then save RefMovie. Give it a different name, like rotated.mov
Then drag rotated.mov into your iMovie project.

How can I rotate clipped head image   in animated gif

I am trying a copy and paste to make take 2 items-    A video of person shoveling snow and replace the head.
Here is what I came up with-- real rough
There are 2 issues here.
1. how to edit a head to give a different view angle to match the body
2. The white border around head- which is not in the psd   which I pasted over the gif-- how do I fix that?

Rotate Multiple Clips in the Event Browser (help)!

I make no apology for posting this a second time - there were no replies to my first post and if you've ever contemplated rotating something like 400 clips by opening them one by one in the Timeline and then adjusting the Rotate parameter in the Inspector, you'll know how I feel.
I want the correction to be on the clips in the Browser, because there's a lot of waste footage and it's so hard to trawl through it upside down. Rotating in the Storyline is dead easy but it doesn't affect the Browser clips - and that's what I need.
I'm sure I read you could do this - and I'm sure I tried it, and it worked - but I can't get it to work again.
I'm convinced the Browser Thumbnails turned the right way up - but I may be hallucinating.
I know it involved opening one clip in the timeline and either adding the 'Flipped' effect or changing the Rotation in the Inspector. I then (somehow) applied that change to the rest of the clips in the Event Browser.
Already tried copying and then Cmd+Alt+V, on all the selected clips in the Browser, but no joy. I also tried adding the rest of the Browser Clips to the same Timeline (which then magically becomes a Storyline) and Copying and Pasting there - but that doesn't affect the Browser Clips.
(Maybe it's my age).

OK - so here's how I did it in the end . . .
Copy a rotated clip in the timeline.
Right-click a clip in the Browser.
Choose 'Open in Timeline'
Press Cmd+2 to select the timeline.
Press ' i ' to select the clip in the timeline.
Press Alt+Cmd+v to Paste the Effects.
I got a stiff neck doing it - SURELY there's a proper way to do it?

How to Rotate a Movie Clip

I was taking a clip of Old Faithful and due to the height I turned my camera sideways, figuring I could rotate the video once I got it into iMovie.
Well, I can't figurer out how and when I enter "rotate" into iMovie help, it comes up with nothing useful.
I'm running a current update of iMovie 6 HD.
Anyone got any idea or some shareware that can rotate a movie clip?

Although, I gather, the free plugins don't work quite as well as QT Pro.
I was very happily surprised that the software which came with my Canon can do this. Canon's ImageBrowser has a utility called MovieEdit Task that can do simple editing, including rotating clips 90 degrees.
