Rotation wobbly

Hi,
I've imported an illustrator file that has a bevel and extrude effect on it into ae. When I make this layer 3-d and move the anchor point to the center and rotate with the z axis the objet turn with an exaggerated wobble. Is this because ae has trouble with illustrator's extrude and bevel, or could it be because my drawing isn't perfect. Any way to work around this?
Thank you!
h

Hi Rick,
Brining in the file as a cropped layer didn't fix the problem. What's happening is that instead of moving around the anchor point, it leans forward and back as it's turning, making the object ( a simple line drawing of a daily with a circle in the center, and tear drop shapes around the circle for petals) look like it's wobbling instead of turning like a wheel.
The illustrator file is grouped with all the petals and the circle. The entire daisy is on a separate layer and so I could bring it into ae to animate. It has the extrude and bevel effect applied only to the grouped daisy layer to give it a more 3-d look.
Let me know if this helps you understand what's going on more clearly, and if you have any other suggestions.
Thank you!
H

  • My iPad Won't Rotate after updating to iOS 6.

After updating to iOS 6, my iPad2 won't auto rotate. I already checked if the rotation was locked, so this isn't the case. I tried restarting it and rebooting it. The only possible way to rotate the screen is to turn off the iPad, rotate the iPad, then turn on the iPad again. Please help me, I don't know how to fix this problem.

I had same problem post upgrade to iOS 6.1.3
    I went to
      [Setting] [General] and set the
[Use_Side_Switch_To] option from [Rotation ...]  to [Mute]
Checked switch by manually flipping the button on iPad cover (next to volume) back and forth and seeing images of mute actions appear sceen centre
But on checking further not all apps rotated automatically  ... so ...
Manually closed all open apps by:
Screen button x2 in quick succession bottom bar appears with all active apps
Touch and hold on of these apps in this bar untill the x appears on them and the wobble
Close each one down by touching x
    Then
      Rebooted ( ... just like a Microsoft machine :-)
Now all working working ... boy you really miss that feature when its not functioning ...
Dont know if all steps relevant but this is what worked for me ...
    ... best of luck

  • Possible Bug in CS4 Extended 3D Axis Widget Rotate?

I wrapped a transparent background PNG text image around the sphere, used a mask to subtract the sphere leaving me with a nice "circular" text on a transparent backdrop.
Next, I want to rotate this 360 degrees on the Z axis in the 10 second default timeline with keyframe to log the rotation so I can output single PNG frames. The rotation would be as if the text were painted around a rotating globe which was "tilted" at about 30 degrees, but without the globe.
I can use the manual 3D tools to achieve this, but I can't do it without excessive XY axis "wobble." I can use the 3D Axis Widget to rotate the text perfectly, not only 360 degrees but 720 or 1440, etc. The problem is that when I use the 3D Axis Widget (which allows me to rotate the text without a trace of XY axis wobble), the keyframe doesn't log or record it properly. It's as if only a few degrees of rotation are actually recorded.
Am I missing something, or could this be a bug??
    Any help appreciated.....
    Best regards,
    Lin

i'm having the same problem here.. running on CS5 Extended.. the 3D Axis, Ground Plane, etc are all greyed out.. 3D -> New Shape From Layer won't give me the 3D Axis and the rendered subject looks 2D.. i've tried all Basic, Normal & Advanced settings but to no avail.. i even updated my graphics driver to the latest driver but still the same...
    my specs,
    Intel Core i5 2410-M
    2GB nVidia GT540M
    4GB of DDR3 RAM
i doubt that my graphics card can't handle the 3D rendering, as the updated driver addressed the 3D support for Photoshop CS5.... plz help.. thanx..

  • Im trying to create a "wobbling" effect with a bitmap

im trying to create a "wobbling" effect with a bitmap
any idea how to go with this with director?

It somewhat depends on what the effect is intended to acheive.
Here is a simple behavior script that can be applied to any bitmap. It wobbles, in the sense that it has a radom movement about its axis.
That is acheived with the random() statements. The amount of wobble can be controlled by changing the value added to each parameter on each iteration.
The last three statements keep the wobble from randomly walking off the frame. Again, wobble can be changed by setting the corrective value at which point the bitmap returns to its original state.
    Hope this helps.
    property spritenum
    global glocH, gLocV, gRotation
    On beginsprite
      gloch = sprite(spritenum).loch
      gloch = sprite(spritenum).locv
      gRotation = integer(sprite(spritenum).Rotation)
    end
    On enterframe
    b = random(2)
      if b=1 then
        sprite(spritenum).loch = sprite(spritenum).loch + random(2)
      else
        sprite(spritenum).loch = sprite(spritenum).loch - random(2)

  • Keyframing Transform results in wobbles?

I may have asked this question months ago, but I couldn't find a solution.
I've been doing this for years in Premiere Pro.  Just basic keyframing on position and scale.  Premiere Pro gives you the option of adding ease in/ease out on all the keyframes.
With Final Cut X, I've found no way to do this simple task.   I have a bunch of screen capture footage.  I like to zoom in and out to various parts of the screen.  Zoom into the corner... pan over to the right... zoom out slightly... etc.   This is something that you absolutely can't do using "Kens Burns" effect, because "Ken Burns" effectly only lets you go to point A to point B in a clip.  Not Point A, B, C, D, E, F and back to A.    So the logical way to do this would be to set keyframes on both "position" and "scale"... then move to the point you want zoomed in, and set keyframes for "position" and "scale"... and so on.
Why is it that when I do this... instead of going in a straight line... it swings and wobbles like crazy?  Is there still no fix for this?  Also... why is there no "ease in" or "ease out" option for a collection of keyframes?
Is the answer still, "Final Cut X is garbage for keyframing... use a 3rd party software like Motion"?  I get that Motion would do this... but it's a real drag on my workflow.

I have a free Title effect called Just Camera... "infinite" ken burns (among other things )... Just stretch it out over your storyline wherever you need it and keyframe as needed. You can animate position (onscreen control), zoom, and rotation (in X,Y and Z!). Zoom values are artificial -- midway is 0 -- no zoom, -100 is really something like 25% or -4x zoom (use with Fade In/Out for effect) and 100 is something like 8 to 10x zoom.
All animation transitions are linear (with no option for anything else).

  • Changing axis of rotation in timeline animation.

Hi guys I am working on creating a logo with animation, and I am struggling to make a layer rotate without wobbling off of axis. I doing a transform in the timeline, and moving the anchors to the direct center of the screen when I am rotating the layer in transform mode in the timeline to save the animation. Although the layer rotates perfectly when I do it manually to before adding a point on the timeline, when I hit play, the layer wobbles out of axis. Do you guys know how to change the axis of rotation on a layer animation in the timeline?

What I would try to sove the problem would be to create rasterize layer version of your odd shape layer and add a couple of very transparent pixels so that the retangle layer's bounds would be centered over the center of the round circle part of your shape layer.

  • Skewed Rotation

So i created a white solid and added the Venetian filter and matted a image to that.
There is a c4d tiff seq. in this composite but when i hold 'W' to rotate it skews.
How do i stop the skewing? or why is this happening?

thats what i was thinking so i did a new project. A banner.
    SETTINGS:
Then  I imported a logo. I added a 1200x1000 round logo but its was vertically skewed when added to the comp. ( dont know why)
With some eye estimation i made relatively perfect circle again.
The i keyframed a single rotaion with a left to right keyframe and got this.
    The file is a PNG.
In AE anythng moving up/ down/ left or right does not skew. It only skews on rotaion. its almost like its getting some z-axis influence.
i would think that if i put a logo like this in any res project that i could rotate and only get the wobble if the file wasn't exactly circular.
This is weird but i am sure there is a check box or setting some where that is causing this.

  • Is the 'Sharp Wobble' dial broken?

I want to lower the frequency much more for a 'dubstep' sound and it seems that the frequency sticks at 90degrees to the left on the wobble dial.
All this impractical skeumorphism is getting real old Apple...
    GarageBand 2013 - 10.1 - Addon Sounds Purchased

    Thanks for the quick reply!
It's the dial on the left there.
-As you can see there is no value input option. Rather infuriating that you have no idea what the actual value is. Especially in this case because the rotation of the dial doesn't affect the frequency at all from 0 to 90 degrees. I have a suspicion that the sample it utilizes can't be stretched further than what I measure as 4 oscilations per second, and someone has improperly matched the dial rotation with the frequency algorithm.

  • P6N - SLI - FI NB (North Bridge) Heatsink Wobble (Ok)

If your NB heatsink wobbles easily it is because they use a sponge thermal pad between it and the epoxied IC, whose surface is not flat.  The thermal pad has good thermal performance and works well.  The reason it wobbles is there is a square perimeter on the heatsink but the NB IC is rotated 45 degrees on the board so only the corners of the perimeter material make contact.  If they put the perimeter material the same orientation as the IC then the wobble would be almost gone.  Don't know what their real intentions were, they may have done this for air circulation reasons.  It does the job.
[By the way, I read the NB ICs are designed to tolerate much higher operating temperatures than CPUs; CPUs being ~60C.  A small airflow on the heatsink can help a lot, a medium fan will help even more.]

here is what I did , before I even booted up my brand new board I dumped that flimsey looking heatsink and Installed this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835116018
it looks AND works very well, it is all coper , w/a cool blue fan . I applied some AS5 on my NB and south bridge
No real issues with my artic cooler freezer pro CPU heatsink
Only bad thing about this NB Heatsink is you will have to remove your board from the case to install it

  • My iPod touch is stuck in landscape view.  Even when held vertically if I open facebook or safari is rotates to landscape.  Have tried turning on and off, same results. Any ideas to fix?

My iPod touch is stuck in landscape view.  Even when held vertically if I open facebook or safari is rotates to landscape.  Have tried turning on and off, same results. Any ideas to fix?

Try switching it back from landscape to vertical. Or, go to settings and see if you have any special setting turned on that enable only landscape view. Also, try hooking it up to your computer and charging it to see what happens.

  • I use preview's annotate feature to take notes by making text boxes in a PDF file. When I open the notes up again to review, all the text boxes have been rotated 90 degrees. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

If I click the boxes twice they rotate back but this is very annoying and time consuming.

Just checking...still no fix for this? I upgraded to OSX 10.8.4 recently and started using Preview to annotate lecture notes, only to find text boxes rotated later on. Appears to be okay if I go back and click on all text boxes and save again.
Any new updates on this topic re: why this is occuring and how to permanently fix it?

  • X230t and Windows 8 - tablet rotate and control buttons don't work

I am the proud owner of a new x230 tablet and I couldn't resist the tempation to load up Windows 8 on it.  Overall I have found the operating system to work fairly well on the system as installed "out of the box"; however, I have noticed that when the computer is put in tablet mode the screen doesn't rotate, even if the rotate hardware button is pressed.  Has anyone else encountered this and if so is there a solution other then waiting for the official release of the operating system and windows 8 certified drivers.
    Thanks

This is for win7 but should also work in win8 because it is a simple configuration thing:

  • Need "Rotate" Function in Photo Gallery

All of my screen grabs end up 90 degrees rotated in PhotoGallery. There is no rotate function in Photo Gallery so to deal with these images I first open them in Adobe Editor on iPad and rotate them then save them to PhotoGallery.
Is there a better way to do this?

To the example that you have linked to above, make the following additions
      <div id="arch-container" style="position:relative;">
        <div id="arch-img" style="position:absolute; top: 170px;"><img src="images/arch-img.png" alt="arch_img" width="959" height="195" /></div>
      </div>
I have used inline styles to make it easy on myself, but in reality you would put the style rules in the corresponding element selector in the CSS. Also, you would readjust the values to suit.
Also, it is worth mentioning that placing a width and height on your image as you have done, should really be done using CSS.
    Added:
As a side note, I have gotten into the habit of using classes for all of my style rules. I came to the conclusion that this is the way to go when trying to analyse a problem within my web page. ID's are unique per document and as such are used when manipulating the DOM using JavaScript. Now when I see an ID in one of my documents, I know that it is not a styling matter as in CSS, but a problem within my script.
Take the above note as a thought, because there is a ongoing debate about this.

  • IPhoto rotates images in slideshow even though the thumbnail for that images has the correct orientation.

This problem seems bizarre to me considering iPhoto 11 has worked with out a hitch since I upgraded from 09 ages ago.  The photos in my album suddenly changed orientation from landscape to portrait and vice versa and sometimes upside down.  I first notice this problem after I tried to click and drag a large number of photos directly from iPhoto to Finder.  I did a Command-A to highlight all the photos from my album and tried to drag them to a folder in Finder.  There are 34,000 photo in this album but only half were copied, (I guess 34,000 items is too much for Lion to copy all at once).  I tried fixing this orientation problem by highlighting all affected photos and selecting "Revert to Original" which fixed the orientation of the thumbnails.  But when you double click on a thumbnail to view the pictures or view the album in a slideshow, some of the pictures still have the incorrect orientation but most were corrected.  Also if I double click on an affected photos to edit it with iPhoto image editor the image suddenly orientates itself correctly.  Then as soon as I close the image editor and view the photo or start a slide show it's displayed with the incorrect orientation again.   How is that possible that all my thumbnails are orientated properly but when I view the photo it's rotated sideways or sometimes rotated upside down?    Any help or insight to my problem would be much appreciated.

Revereting to original will not fix the problem.  When you invoke that menu option iPhoto will read the file again, see the tag that tells it to rotate the file and will rerotate it.
The most reliable way to fix this is to rotate those file before they are imported into iPhoto. Upload from the camera to a folder on the Desktop, rotate those that need rotating, rename if desired and import.  I use Xee for that because it can rotate the file losslessly.

  • Rotate to fit / photoshop image processor

Anyone know what happened to the Rotate to Fit feature in bridge/tools/photoshop/image processor? I have to make several web photo galleries and this most important feature seems to be missing with CS4.

To clarify - older photoshop (or bridge) programs, you could put in the dimensions you wanted and check a checkbox that said something like "rotate to fit". So if I entered 400x600px, then photoshop would make Portrait images 600 tall x 400 wide, and Landscape image 600 wide by 400 tall.
Photoshop CS4 doesn't have that option so I have to go through all of my images, select all the landscape images, put in 600 wide x 400 tall, and run the script. Then gotta Go Back... select all of the Portrait images.. and run the script again but this time for 600 tall x 400 wide. Such a pain - gotta be a better way just haven't found it yet! help!
