Roto Brush issue in CS5 Premiere Pro

I am a new CS5 user with a week of learning under my belt.  (My previous experience was splicing 8mm film together when making films as a kid.)  I am hoping someone can advise on an issue I am encountering in CS5 Premiere Pro?  (I realize Roto Brush is a tool in After Effects, but I am having trouble with the output of the Roto Brush tool in Premiere Pro.)
I opened a .VOB file (taken from a DVD) in Premiere Pro (first I changed the extension to .MPG).  It opened as 720 x 480 at 23.976 fps.  No problems scrubbing through and using the Razor tool.  I selected one of the small razored subsections I made from the video, and opened it in After Effects using the Premiere Pro menu selection: File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Replace With After Effects Composition.  No problem opening in After Effects.  I learned the Roto Brush tool and it also worked great as I successfully masked out a moving figure - looks great.  But ...
When I return to Premiere Pro, the After Effect composition does not display the same as it did in After Effects.  Specifically there appears to be some kind of mask/motion mismatch, and so a bluish border will appear on some frames around the figure as it moves.  In After Effects the rotoscope is perfect, but in Premiere it is like a poorly done rotoscope with the borders of the figure messed up.  I am hoping the comparison images below will make this clear.  The image on the left shows the perfectly rotoscoped figure in After Effects, and on the right the same frame but in Premiere Pro.  Note how the image in Premiere Pro has a messed up border around the figure?
Has anyone experienced this or know why it is occuring?  I can think of some possible work-arounds that could be tried, but the dynamic link method is nice and fast.  So before I start rendering and saving and reopening files in a work-around attempt, I am wondering first what could be causing this issue.  Thanks for any ideas.

Hi,
Just to let you know that you've posted in the Audition (audio) forum and may do better posting over in the Premier Pro forums.
However, as one who works in both video and audio, I'd just comment that your choice of export format is affected big time by what you want to do with your edit.  Things like Youtube, DVD, Bluray, etc. all have their own formats that you have to adhere to.  Within those formats you often have choices you can make to balance bandwidth vs. quality but these only come into play once you've decided where your project has to end up.

  • Microphone Issue using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5

I have also posted this at the Adobe forums. I'm just hoping someone, somewhere can help.
I am a recent convert from Final Cut to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, mainly so I can start burning to blu-ray. I am finding the switch a frustrating experience. The latest issue I have is with audio recording. I have an external firewire mic set up that worked flawlessly with Final Cut for two years for recording commentary tracks. Yesterday, I tried recording a commentary track in Premiere Pro, and it worked fine for about an hour, at which point it suddenly stopped. Now I can only reocrd about 6 seconds of audio before it stops recording, and repeated attempts result in a "serious error" and Premiere crashing.
I have searched everywhere and tried everything I can think of. Restarted Premiere. Uninstalled/reinstalled premiere. Shut down/unplugged/replugged in C-1 microphone. Updated software. Restarted iMac. Nothing works. I am out of things to try, and hoping someone here might have a suggestion. I have tried using the iMac's internal microphone just as a test (since the quality of the recording would be unusuable for my purposes) and Premiere won't even use that for the six seconds it will the C-1.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

So, just in case anyone else is wondering, we never did solve this issue. However, we upgraded Soundbooth to Audition, and were able to move the project there and finish the commentary track. So, that's a workaround, anyway. (A workaround that did not work in Soundbooth).

  • Importing a CS5 premiere pro sequence into Encore

I'm pretty new to premiere pro and encore (used encore for the first time yesterday) - so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I've created a project in Premiere Pro and it plays fine. However, when I import the premiere pro sequence into my Encore project (so I can export it to DVD) it shows the media as being offline. Am I wrong in assuming that if I import a sequence from premiere pro I don't have to import all the sub-assets that the sequence uses as well - shouldn't that happen automatically? Or do I need to import everything? - seems a bit silly if that's the case - why would I not want all the assets that a sequence uses to come across with it? Thanks.

forgive me if this is a dumb question.
Not dumb, but your terms aren't right, and that's probably at the root of your problem.
You "import" a file; you dynamic link a PR sequence, either from Premiere or from within Encore.
When you dynamic link, nothing is actually transferred; a link is set up, and the Premiere sequence is still operating from within an instance of Premiere (even if not visible).
When you eventually transcode (in Encore, usinkg Encore's engine or adobe media encoder), then a file is created inside Encore directory structure.
The media showing as offline means you've done something wrong.
Do you get this message at the very beginning of the link?  Be sure you don't move or rename anything.

  • XML/EDL/AAF Issues out of Premiere Pro CS6

My project (Converted GH2 footage) refuses to export an XML/EDL/AAF. Something has got corrupted or screwed up somewhere.
I tested an XML with a new project, with some of the same media files and it exported XML fine. I tried it with Blackmagic Footage, which was also fine.
Since working on the project I have had to copy the media files and rename the drives which is probably partly the problem. Whe looking in the properties of the media the file path was from the old drive, despite the media still being online. I went into project manager and 'Collected the files and copied to a new location'. So essentially I had a new project, timeline and everything is surely how it should be.
But I still can't export an XML or EDL.
Also to note that the project is also built in premiere from an XML sent from a colleague (also working from Premiere).
When I try to open the XML in Resolve it just crashes, but I can open the XML back in Premiere fine.
Any ideas how I can solve the problem?

Okay, after trying both steps in the document above, the missing codecs/preview presets still aren't available when I go to File>New>Sequence. I guess that's the only way to check if they have installed correctly/activated correctly right? It says it's correctly activated though so not sure why it's doing this.
Are these presets also missing in the trial verison of the software?

  • CS5 Premiere Pro Trial Version

How am I supposed to evaluate AVCHD editing, rendering, etc. performance if the trial version does not support it?  Is there a way to work around this?  My camera is the Canon HF100 using the .MTS or .M2TS formats.
    Thanks.

Thanks, I agree that CS5 will handle the file format, I'm interested to evaluate performance on my maching.  What do you think?

  • CS5 Premiere Pro Trial - .mts Audio Problem

Maybe this is because of the trial limitations, I don't know. But when I import .mts files, there's no audio coming with the files? Is it because it's the trial version or could it be something else?
BTW - I've got a quad core processor with a GeForce 9500 GS video card. The video seams to work fine, there's just no audio associated with the video files. Any help would be appreciated.

While the trial has everything MPEG disabled, Adobe offers a 30-day, money-back guarantee on the purchase of the full version. It's really like a 60-day trial, with the first 30-days being without anything MPEG, and the second with 100% of the features, though there is an exchange of money after the first 30-days, but you get that back, if you return the full-paid product within the second 30-days. That test drive should tell you if you want PrPro, or FCP.
    Good luck,

  • Why do Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 have intermittant Sync issues?

I am noticing that Encore CS5 is "buggy" regarding sync issues with material edited by Womble and Corel Video Studio and I am guessing other programs as well?
In high definition I take AVCHD and  edit in Corel Video Studio.  If I leave the project as one single 42 minute segment and import this asset into Encore CS5, more often than not there are bad sync issues.  To get around this I have to divide the 42 minute project into approximately 6 smaller ones- Each smaller asset ends where I had done the editing.  Encore does not have any problems now with these 6 smaller assets.
In standard definition I edit in Womble and export as a MPEG2 Program.  Sometimes Encore has a problem with the asset sync and sometimes it does not.  (I am guessing about 20% of my assets end up with a problem).  The same asset if brought into TMP or brought back into Womble does not have any sync issue.  If brought into Premiere Pro CS5 it will exhibit the same behavior as Encore- If Encore has a sync problem, so will Premiere Pro.  So to get around this I then have to go back to the original womble file and break it up into smaller pieces, at every edit point I cut and export the smaller file just after the end of the transition I applied.  With a 6 hour project I may end up with dozens of small files to get around this problem- not very efficient.
Any ideas how to fix this or why Encore is so buggy?  Would moving the original assets around in Womble- example taking something that was at the end of the timeline and then moving it to the beginning cause these issues for Encore?   Or is there some other cause?
    Encore CS5
    Premiere Pro CS5
    Windows 7 64 BIT
    Quad core
    2.4 GHZ clock speed
    6GB memory
150 GB free space on drive
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 card

I've used VideoReDo in the past, which I believe has some similar strategies to Womble.  I found when I tested streams, that there were often problems in the source streams, and that the fix was not 100 percent.
You may also find such files that are not 100 percent the same length video to audio.
In any event, the possibility other than Encore being buggy is that the files you are bringing in have problems when Encore tries to validate them.  I'm not saying Encore doesn't have its problems, but clean mpeg files do not have sync issues ordinarily.
For some scenarios, I like your workflow (edit mpeg files in a frame accurate mpeg editor that is not retranscoding the whole file), but the results are often not consistent.
You don't say, and I would certainly look at, the nature of the audio stream you are using.  I can not tell you what the problems are, but some streams just do not edit well, even though they may play back okay in some players, but still have issues in Encore and/or Premiere.

  • Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5

I recently upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. Initially Nikon D7000 .MOV files used in previous CS5 Premiere Pro project would not play well in CS5.5. Now .MOV files do work in both PP and AE CS5.5. Here are the steps I followed. Not recommending you follow my steps exactly, just providing info for those that are interested.
    1.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5 and open previous PP CS5 project, convert project to CS5.5 and rename project file as not to replace previous CS5 project file.
    a.       At this point .MOV files do not play in new project or in AE CS5.5
    b.      Close Premiere Pro and After Effect if still running.
    2.       Using Adobe Bridge CS5.5, batch rename;
    a.       Make copies of original files to new folder location while renaming file extension from .MOV to .mpg
    b.      Let Adobe Bridge finish creating all new thumbnail previews.
    c.       Leave Bridge running in background.
    3.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5, let Premiere finish recreating thumbnail previews if needed.
    a.       Attempt to preview existing .MOV file in project. It worked for me.
    b.      Attempt to play sequence containing .MOV files. It worked for me.
    c.       Attempt to play or modify sequence .MOV files in AE CS5.5 via Dynamic Link within Premiere. It worked for me.
    d.      Close Premiere Pro project and AE projects if open.
    4.       Create new Premiere Pro project and sequence
    a.       Import a different Nikon D7000 .MOV file not previously used or renamed.
    b.      Attempt to play this newly imported .MOV file. This worked for me as well.
    c.       The new, previously un-renamed .MOV file also worked in AE CS5.5 for me.
I will perform additional tests but at the moment Nikon D7000 .MOV files are working for me in CS5.5 after initially performing a batch rename in Bridge CS5.5 from .MOV to .mpg and letting Bridge create preview files. Even .MOV files not renamed now work.
An example of Nikon D7000 footage edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Sound Booth CS5 can be seen on my blog, http://stevelandonsmyth.typepad.com/steve-landon-smyths-blog/2011/07/my-first-hd -video-shoot-with-nikon-d7000.html

    Hello,
I see 2 post in this thread from Todd that say they are working on a fix and it should be out soon.  One is from July, the other from August.  It is now Sept 7th and I still see no patches or fixes for any bugs.  I spent 400 dollars on an upgrade, but is this upgrade going to be supported?
This is making me rethink upgrading to the .5's in the future.
It is a minor bug to most, but in that sense it should be an easy quick fix. Am I wrong? Is this really a complicated issue?
I apologize if this comes off like a rant, but thats kinda what it is.  It is not hard to batch rename files, but its a pain to have to relink all those files in PP.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 incompatible with current Mac Pros?

Does anyone know if the new version of CS5.5 Premiere pro is compatible with the current line of Mac Pros?
At present, CS5 Premiere pro is not. After nearly six months I know they have been unable to correct a problem which causes a complete system freeze under repeatable circumstances and the problem is tied to current Mac Pros standard configuration with ATI cards.

    Tom,
I wish I better understood your reply. I don't know what MPE refers to, nor do I know what text file hack you have mentioned.
What I do see is that the system requirements for Premiere Pro 5.5's GPU is listed as follows:
    - Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU–accelerated performance; visit www.adobe.com/go/premiere_systemreqs for the latest list of supported cards
Interestingly, it posts this link on the page it is sending you to, which does not inspire great confidence regarding accuracy.
Lower down on the page there is only a list of Nvidia cards. If Adobe no longer supports ATI(or AMD cards) cards for GPU acceleration, they are not supporting any of the standard configurations on any Macintosh currently offered.
Regardless, if the product is hard crashing the system with all standard current configurations under common and repeatable circumstances, there is a serious issue consumers need to be made aware of before purchase.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.x  - major lack of tutorials/documentation

Seriously...the Adobe Classroom in Book of CS5 is the only book available? It's a bad book too, since it just wants you to follow all kind of 1,2,3 steps without explaining anything, not to mention that I can't stand doing those kind of spoon-fed lessons. I looked at the video courses of VTC, Lynda, Totaltraining...shockingly bad. They're so basic that I can only assume that I would fall asleep, plus they seldom talk about issues that I want to know. I can't for example discover in their course outlines where something substantial as masking is explained.
    Why all this rubbish?

  • Strips in files when encoding in Premiere Pro CS5 to Mediaencoder

    Hello,
since a short time I moved to Creative Premium Pro CS5. Unfortunatelly I have several issues when rendering jobs. In CS 4 32 Bit export via Mediaencoder worked fine. Now when I use the same Peoject from CS4, load it into CS5 Premiere Pro and export the sequenz to a an AVI or .mpg file (does not depends on what kind of export file), I have color strips vertically in the ranges of dissolves, left and right in the picture. This disturbs when playing the file on a PC-Mediaplayer. When I check the highest render quality in the media encoder, then the strips are away. Is that a bug in CS5?
    Thanks for any answer.

  • Import Premiere Pro CS3 Windows projects into Premiere Pro CS5 Mac.

Hi there people. I hope you can help me. I have had premiere pro CS3 on my windows system for some years but now run a Mac with Master Collection CS5, my problem is that my existing prproj files on windows format do not open in CS5 Premiere Pro for Mac, I get a message telling me that I need to see the user guide for importing options, I have tried to do so, but there is no information about how to do this.
Can anyone here please tell me how to get around this, as I need to rework some of these old windows projects however my old windows system is totally dead now so I cannot open the files in the CS3 windows version either.
Please help, oh and spare me the useless windows vs. mac arguments.
I hope someone here can help
    Thanks

Since you are trying to Open a CS3 PC Project, you should not have THAT many issues in CS5 Mac. Have you tried both the Open and Import - similar but different operations? Have both methods failed?
One possible problem would be the Effects & Transitions used in the CS3 PC Project. Here is a LIST of the Transitions and Effects in CS4 for the PC, that are missing in the Mac version. I would assume that CS3 and CS5 would be similar. However, in similar cases, PrPro has thrown a more specific error message. I have only Opened Pr 6.5 Mac Projects into PrPro 2.0 PC, and these have been almost perfect. Where there were missing Transitions, I got a very explicit message, telling me what had been used that was missing from my program, and exactly where the problem existed (specific TimeCode). In my case, two Transitions just did not exist in my PrPro 2.0, and one was a 3rd party Transition, or Effect, and I did not have that. Still, the older Mac Projects Opened fine, and I just made note of where I would need to make changes. I would anticipate that similar would occur, if the Mac version did not have some Transition, or Effect, but do not know specifically. Still, based on the warning messages that I got, with such complete documentation, I'd expect similar.
Now another consideration - Assets. If there are Assets that you cannot work with on your Mac, say DV-AVI, or WMV, those would likely throw an error. Again, I would expect that error message to elaborate a bit more.
Do you know the details of your CS3 Projects and their Assets? Anything that you can think of there?
Just thinking here, and unfortunately, I have never gone the direction that you are going, and with the versions that you are working with, so something simple and glaring (to others) might just be slipping past me.
Good luck, and maybe others will have much better input on your issue. Also - welcome to the forum!

  • New to Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hello all,
Recently moved up to CS5.5 from PE8 and hoping for some advise before starting my main project.
Project will be approx 1hr long, wish to be able to burn finished product to DVD as well as Blu Ray. Most footage has been shot so far with Sony HDR-CX handycams, AVCHD set on FH,( should i be using FX?). Also have some footage shot with a standard DV camera and would like to use both in project?
Am i able to create project with 5.1 SS and still use footage with 2 channel stereo also?
Have been playing around a bit editing with some success, until it comes to burning to DVD, suspect i have a setting wrong, starting out tutorials watched seem to say don't bother setting up the project settings at start?
My main questions to date are - should i set the required settings at the start of my project? and if so what settings should i choose for desired end products?  Also what settings should i choose when saving to hard drive for burning to DVD and then BR discs?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You do not burn a DVD with Premiere Pro... you use the bundled Encore
