Rotoscoping to add ghost effect? HELP!!!

I am working on a project where I need to create a ghostly effect. I have CS5 and used Rotoscoping to slect the actors and add the effect.
However, sometimes the selection process is amazing! it doesn't need to be to the edge perfect but the rotoscope mask sometimes juts out or wiggles a lot which looks weird.
I was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions for how to fix this? Whether it be settings or tips for using rotoscope? or a whole new selection method.
I really need to get this working and I've attempted to go through frame by frame and fix the rtoscope too many times... thanks!

Your terminology is unclear. "Rotoscoping" covers all techniques and processes used to isolate elements in the footage, not just a single one. per haps you rather mean "Rotobrush"? That would make a lot more sense based on your description and that already takes us to the center of it all: You used it on compressed footage and naturally the automatic edge detection will therefore yield rather crude results due to the blocking and jitter all the way. You can paint for another hundred years and it won't go away. It's just how the tool works. Therefore, manually adding an additional level of cleanup using conventional paint tools or masks animated frame by frame is the only way to resolve the issue. There is no simple answer here. Salvaging a poorly shot scene is just a ton of work. Of course, if you can, simply reshoot using a green screen, otherwise you may wish to cancel all your social activities for the next few days and dig yourself in trying to fix this...

Use system font, or al least one blank in system font. In this case you can use effects, because systemfonts are rendered as an image.
Using web or web safe fonts it is momentarily impossible to use effects on text.

Ghosting effect when in slowmotion help?

hello everyone. I have a question. everytime I slow down a clip in FCP I always get this ghosting effect as the person moves. how can I fix this? I record in 1080i 60i. what is weird is when I add an effect like black and white or something like that the ghosting goes away. how can I fix it?

i think you are looking for JTextPane. but that's not all, you have to use document(or inherited classes), Style, StyleConstants, AttributeSet(or inherited classes).
And all this you have to combine.

How do I add an effect to a SmartShape on hover?

How do I add an effect to a smartshape on hover. For example, I've created a green rectangle which is a smartshape and is being used as a button. I have two instances of this button on a slide and am trying to do the following:
1) SmartShape A (Green rectangle) = On hover, I want this green rectangle to change it's fill color to blue.
2) SmartShape B (Green rectangle) = On hover, I want this rectangle to have a 4px yellow border (the original had no border, i.e. stroke width =0)
How would I do this without using additional objects?
For example, I don't want to have a duplicate of this smartshape (for each instance), that is used as a rollover shape which superimposes the original shape on hover -- I dont even know if that would work, sounds okay in theory though.
But it would be great if someone could help me with this, I've been struggling for some time to figure out this effect.

In Premiere Pro I have no shape tools when I add Mosaic effect?

I want to make an oval mask over a video of my son playing basketball so he is easily seen during basketball game video.
I saw a video about the new tracking using Mosaic effect but when I add that effect I do not get the shape tools....I did see where it says it does not work with Warp Stabilizer but I never added that to the video?
How do I turn off Warp stabilizer or where do I find my shape tools?
I'm using Windows 8

all of these will be in the effect controls window for the selected clip. if it shows no Warp Stabilizer effect listed, it shouldn't be active. you need to add an effect such as RGB curves or fast color corrector if you want to change brightness/contrast with the mask. this mask tool was a recent addition to the adobe software, so if you have an older version of premiere you may not have these.

How to add an effect again (or effects with similar outcome) or "merge effects"?

May I bother you with a question?
Can I add the same effect twice? OR can I "merge layers", similar to PS, then add a new batch of effects?
I have experienced the same problem a couple of times, here is an example:
1. I stabilize my clip (by motion tracking including rotation. dozens of keyframes are added to the transformation->rotation of the layer)
2. The result is crooked and I want to rotate it.
3. The only (very bad) options I see: edit each keyframe, by adding my -5°; or rendering it and editing it again
I had the same problem with plug-ins that have effect e.g. on transformation. Once I use it, the former settings are overwritten.
I guess there is a simple answer I should be able to find in the FAQ's or tutorials, but after 2 hours I'm either blind or a fool. Could you please help me?

I found another great way to make it work (even though I'll just use it, when the null-object ect. won't work):
It's called "precomposed layers" and works really well, especially because it allows you to edit compositions that have "time distortion" and "time stretching" enabled. once you have a layer that has some time-relevant effects and want to add another effect (e.g. tracking, or twixtor...), select the layer (or several), use "Ctrl + shift + C" and select the second option. the layer is then replaced by a new untouched layer of the clip. that clip links to the edited original clip (which kind of hides under it).
In PS speech: you merge the layers, but have access to the unmerged layers
I needed it to use tracking on time stretched clips and also in combination with twixtor

Add Multiple Effects to a Single Clip at Different Times

Ok, first post here. Just a little history about myself, I am a senior member of the Sony Vegas board, power user of Photoshop, newb of Premiere, and total newb of After Effects. I have looked at every tutorial, PDF, help manual, Google, FAQ, etc. (In other words I have done my due diligence before posting) for the past 6 weeks and feel as though I know next to nothing :/
So many questions, so few brain cells...........The current problem I am having is; say I have a clip in the time line and I want to add an effect to it 10 seconds in (use 'shatter' as an example). When I add the effect, it begins at the start of the clip, so I found the Ctrl + Shift + D trick and thought that would take care of it, but the effect is still in the same point in time (10 seconds) in the newly created clip. I have tried shortening the clip, but it acts more like slip editing and doesn't seem to help. How can I get this to work, and then heaven forbid if I want to add another effect at a later point on the clip? Over the years, I have helped hundreds of people, and answered thousands of posts, I hope someone will take the time to help me. Thanks

You picked a complex one to start off.... The simplest way to get the right timing would be to pre-compose and thus isolate all the timing from the main comp. If you want to stick with the effect in the main comp, then you must animate all the force parameters, including the force value, radius and also the gravity parameter. A third option would be to create a gradient map and animate its threshold. Such a map is simply a greyscale and based on the distribution of the brightness can control which pieces explode first, allowing for some interesting effects when combined with the forces.

To do that, you've got to get into Automation. Quite a big topic for a forum reply. Basically, it's the ability to change values over time. You can change pretty much everything: volume, panning, send amount, effect values, etc.
Best to have a look at the manual to try it out or, if you have a few bucks lying around, check out the MacProVideo site for really good tutorials:

You don't need to get them all right now (some are Logic Pro in any case) - Logic 101 is massive and will give you a real head start.

CS3 Premiere Still Image Ghost Effect Before Transition

I have a timeline with photos that I have automated to the timeline using the default transition between photos. When I render out the video and burn it to disc (the images with dark or black backgrounds are the most noticable) you can see the next image in line that is to be shown briefly through the image that is currently on screen. It's almost like a ghosting effect of the next image like it is in a holding pattern waiting to dissolve into the image. This seems to occur throughout the timeline but as I said, it is much more obvious on images with dark or black backgrounds.
I'm pretty sure I've had this problem in the past and don't remember how I resolved it. In rendering, I render out to an NTSC DV AVI file and import into Encore 2 and let Encore 2 handle the file rendering.
If someone could enlighten me on what the issue may be that I could quickly resolve, I would appreciate it. In the meantime, I will try other ways of kicking the file out to see if I get any better desired results.

are doing etc...tell us more about what transition you're using ( cross dissolve ? ..) stuff like that...

Ghosting effect - Is it a frame rate problem?

I've just made a music video lyric video (I'm still really new to movie editing) and there's this ghosting effect. Does anyone know what may cause it? Is it a frame rate problem, or the frame blend thing?

Soooo, you didnt export ntsc and it looks like you upscaled to 1080p but a different fps than original also.
In gereral if you start at say 24fps and make it 30fps, your editor has to "make" new frames ( add 6 per second ) and it does that by creating new frames out of what you have on timeline. Sometimes a VBR 2 pass will give you better results than 1 pass, but you have to experiment a bit ( just export small section of timeline for tests...and try to use area where you see your "ghosting" ).

I found the reason. The function Z_WEBRFC_READ_DATA_SH had a string concatenation error.

The correct code is like:
