Rough Edges on Graphics

I have a vector graphic which was created in Adobe Illustrator which looks rough in After Effects.  Zooming in Illustrator and Photoshop results in crisp clean edges which is what I want.
When I place the graphic in my AE composition the edges are rough.
I have 'continuously rasterize' turned on but the graphic is still rough.
Toggling 'pixel aspect ratio correction, makes it look clean.
I have tried creating different sized graphics with correct and incorrect aspect ratios but that doesn't work either.
I have checked the output on a TV monitor but it looks the same.
I am using CS3 on a Mac running OS 10.6.2
The video file and comp are DVCPRO 720 (1.33)
I just want my graphics to look as crisp as they do in Ai and Photoshop
Thanks for your help.
Dean

Thanks Todd,
I thought I'd tried exporting but it must have been the only thing I hadn't done.
After exporting, the graphics do look much cleaner.
It's a shame that you can't see the full quality in the AE viewer so that you can be sure as you go along what you are creating is what you want.  It would save a lot of time doing test exports.
Thanks
Dean

  • Rough edges of graphic after exporting

    Hola,
I have been using this product (FW) for some time now, but I
have'nt been able to find solution to this problem. I usually edit
my images/graphics before I export it to Flash for animations. The
proplem is when I remove a background of my graphic and I export it
to Flash the edges are never smooth and often look very crooked.
I wil be glad if anybody can help me deal with this problem
    once and for all time.
    Thanks.

  • Adjusting pixels in PhotoShop CS4 and removing 'rough edges'

    PhotoShop CS4
    WinVista Ultimate
Need: 1) File #1 - I need to adjust the pixels on an *.eps file to a maximum of 600 pixels. The entire drawing is a single layer to my knowledge.
              2) File #2: - I also need to adjust the rough edges of a 'cloud' that surrounds some text.  Also, *.eps.  The 'cloud' is separate from the text.  If I remember correctly, I need to 'fill in' the 'cloud'.
    Both file sizes are <1MB.
Eventually, I'd like to combine File #1 with File #2.
File #1 and #2: Status: Currently, I have some *.jpg and *.eps files that need adjustments that were created 2+ years ago.  Being new to PS CS4, some guidance would be appreciated.
    TIA!

I to have the same issue and it all started after switching photoshop cc's layout to 3d mode now everything crashes repeatedly... Thankgod AE still works but yeah ps 3d system is the culprate here b/c It worked perfectly for 4 months for me until i tried there crappy ps 3d system!

  • How to fix rough edges text in After Effects cs4? Please help.

How to fix this? rough edges in text.
in the first, it's not like this but the next i open after effects cs4, it goes like that.

    Hi there mato31,
Hopefully this will help — if that screenshot is your comp window at 50%, then I would hazard a guess that the resolution quality of your comp window was set down to half or quarter quality (this would be my first guess in this instance, worth a try?). If you look across the bottom of the comp window next to the RGB channels icon, the drop-down menu for the comp window resolution is there. Does yours say perhaps Quarter or Third? Just a guess... Usually one would work at Full, but I usually leave it set to Auto so when a comp is viewed at 50%, it automatically changes the quality to 50% which leaves smooth edges (a comp viewed at 50% zoom factor, with full resolution, looks jagged also).
Anyway, just a first thought. Let me know if that helps at all?

  • Icon become pixelated with rough edges after 10.6.5 update.

Hi, I have this annoying problem after the 10.6.5 update, my icon at the dock appears to be pixelated (rough edges), and all the pictures/text that I view in facebook has this issue as well, not only facebook but all the images basically.
During the time of this posting, I realized this issue has extended to video. I have tried to reinstall mac OS X, repair permission, and do another round of update using the 10.6.5 combo. But doesn't seems to solve the issue here.
Any kind soul can advise on this?
    Thank you.

After trying out all the possible resolutions (repair disk permission, reinstallation..etc) it all didnt work out.
I decided to try a fresh installation: it yielded 2 results which i wish to share, don't consider this to be a resolution to the problem but my mere experience to resolution.
    1. I first deleted the partition and install a fresh copy from apple disc. Boot up to mac, and install the 10.6.5 combo, after restarted, problem persist, all the icon, text, video still appeared to be pixelated. I'm not doing the installation in full resolution mode in this attempt but 1920x1080. After this has failed. I decided to give it another try in my max screen resolution.
    2. Same process goes, i deleted the partition and begin a fresh installation, after booted in to mac, the auto update ran by itself, and i was prompted for update. I'm trying something a little bit different this time by not using the combo update to install the 10.6.5 but letting the auto update take place by itself. Restarted after installation finished....
ALL ARE BACK TO NORMAL. NO MORE PIXELATED SCREEN.
I'm not certain of what is the cause. But i would like to think the new update might not handle lower screen resolution well.

  • T500 after 4 weeks use traces on rough edges

    Hello Lenovo Community,
i have bought 4 weeks ago a ThinkPad T500 20552CG and a adapted ThinkPad BackPack Carrying Case.Usually i work in the University with the Laptop and i have ever used it carefully and transportated it in the carrying Case. And yesterday i saw that the rough edges have use traces. The magnesium layer is used.I decided to bought a Thinkpad because they have high quality criteria. On the Pictures i have documentated the traces:

      http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=00027fc4d.jpg
It can no't be possible after 4 weeks that the Thinkpad look like i worked with it a long time.I tought with the Bagpack the Thinkpad is protected, however it was not the case!
What do you think about it, is this a case of warranty?
At last i will say that i'm very disapointed because i tought i bought a high quality product!
    Best regards

    Hi
If you have a warranty they most likely will replace the top.  I had a T42p, it became scratched and Lenovo or IBM replaced the top.

  • Rough Edges - Masks

I searched the fourm looking for a way to create what I think is called a mask.  Basically, all I want to do is create rough edges on an object similar to the inserted image.  See how the edges appear torn with some of the background showing?
My goal is to create something similar. Is this done w/ masks or adjustment layers? Both?
A link to a tutorial would be great. I just don't know what to call the process, therefore, not sure where to begin my search.
    Thanks,
    william-01

I use John's method most often, but there are collections of various Masks, from companies like Auto-FX. These will be brought into PS as an Alpha Channel, can be Transformed/Resized and in almost any other way, manipulated and customized. They just give you a "starting point."
I bought my old Auto-FX Photo Edges for various Polaroid® "looks," but use many others to get me started. After that, I just use QuickMask, or other, to paint in/paint out what I need, and then can apply various Filters to that, for any look that I desire.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Feathered edges on graphics within Keynote 6.1?

Is there a way to create feathered edges on graphics within Keynote 6.1 without bringing it in from another program? I know I can use Photoshop or some other program to create the mask but it seems there should be an easy way to do this from within Keynote. It seems the only masking available has hard edges.

Quicker, easier and better results in Photoshop.
You could use borders but not very convincing, select the image then:
Format Inspector > Style > Border > line > then select a line type from the dropdown menu and reduce opacity

  • Compressing ProRes 2K for DVD Studio and getting rough edges?

I'm trying to get the best quality DVD burned possible working with a ProRes 2K project, original footage was 4K RED, and I'm getting rough, pixeled edges when I view the DVD. OK--Here's the workflow:
-All RED 4K ftg has been transcoded to ProRes 2K and edited into a ProRes 2K sequence
    -I export a quicktime movie, self-contained
-I take that quicktime into Compressor
-I choose "Best Quality DVD 90 Minutes" setting for audio and video (AC3 and m2v)
-In the geometry, I choose the 2.35 padding to make the aspect ratio look right (this i had to figure out by troubleshooting it myself)
-I take those into DVD studio pro and burn them onto an SD DVD.
When I do this with my XDCAM 1080p footage, it looks fantastic. When I do it with this project's footage, it looks like garbage. Pixels, edges are rough, just looks like low resolution. I've tried all different options of bit rate, no 2.35 padding, etc. Everything looks low res on the DVD.
UPDATE: upon checking the quicktimes in each step, i notice the first quicktime export (the File>Export>Quicktime Movie (self-contained checked), looks fine, but the problem seems to be in the work the Compressor is doing. Any suggestions?
    Please help!
    thanks
    Jason

Have you tried switching on Frame Controls? Experiment with some of the Frame Controls settings on a short section of the movie, particularly the Resize filter and Anti-alias / Details Level.

  • Need help exporting transparent gifs for flash - rough edges

    Hello,
I have a flash header i am building for a website. The layers i am exporting for web have a rough white edge (gif.s - save for web). Basically I am trying to transition the flower group to another color saved from a layer in Photoshop.
Would a path help? The image in the library is set to allow smoothing.
Here is a link to a screen shot in a new window.

gif has no »soft« transparencies if I understand correctly; are psd or png-24 possible to use for you?

  • Export to quicktime=photoshop logos have rough edges

I work @ a TV station and we are switching to a tapeless format for getting finished promos from my department to the department who plays the promos spots on the air.
I use FCP 4.5. here is the issue
Our station logo goes in the bottom right corner of the screen on all of the spots I make. When I dub these to tape it looks perfect and smooth. When I export to quicktime (720 x 486, self contained movie compressor=none) the edges of the station logos become jagged, and blocky/pixilated. Does anyone have any idea what I might do to fix this problem? I have tried multiple ways of exporting but can't seem to get it to work. The logos are all Photoshop files. The machine the spot has to play on @ the other end of the FTP is a windows system using video2dv software.

    when i export, i use quicktime conversion, compression=none, size=NTSC 720x486
and sometimes i try compression type uncompressed 10bit.
The files that look bad are photoshop files with clear backgrounds super imposed onto video backplates.
I am not well versed in all of the technical lingo involving codecs.
I capture via AJA composite 10bit. It always looks flawless going to tape, i am using NTSC monitors to view everything, it even looks good when I open the exported quicktime file before I upload to the FTP server.

  • Rounded edges on graphics

I'm making some graphics in AP CS2, and finding myself using everything but the kitchen sink to accomplish this. I'm using the elliptical marquee tool (with shift) and after that the rectangular marquee tool to mark the rest, then inverse my selection and press delete to remove the corner, only after i copied the graphics to a transparent layer. See the example right upper corner here: http://www.mrsoso.nl
Is there a better or easyer way of accomplishing this?
    GreetzZzz Frits Nieuwenburg (The Netherlands)

There is a Rounded Rectangle Tool on the shapes tools flyout which contains Rectangle Tool (not Rectangular Marquee Tool). It can draw paths, Shape layers and pixel layers. A path can be converted to a selection by a button at bottom of Paths panel or by right-clicking the path and picking Make Selection.

  • How Do I Get Images to Preview with out Bitmapped & Rough Edges?

    Using InDesign CS (Mac)
I think I read in the manual that vector, and bitmap files will look pixelated when viewed in InDesign.

    Thanks

Hi, All, I have the same problem, very annoying... I'm doing all of the above and my JPG images display very poorly, pixelated and horrible. When I export to PDF, they look gorgeous, as they do in Photoshop. Why can't I see them the same way in IDCS3? Running Version 5.0.2 on an iMac G5.
Cmd-opt-shift-Y does nothing to improve the display
In Preferences > Display Performance all my settings are on High Quality
And yes, all the links are up-to-date...
    Any other ideas?
