Round Corners on Added Shapes

cs5.5 does not correctly round corners on shapes that have been built with pathfinder. when will this be fixed?
i just updated a cs4 job to cs5.5 and all the text boxes that were fine in the first case are now unusable in the second.

This is a major complaint about the new Live Corner effects in CS5. Apparently, in order to accomplish the "live" part, it is no longer possible using corner effects to do a true semicircular side on a frame. You can still create these shapes using the pen tool or Pathfinder, though.

  • Round corners of vector shape?

Ive drawn a vector shape (a triangle), how can I round the pointy edges? Ideally I would do this numerically and be able to change it for all points on the fly. Thanks

While there's no way to add "live" rounded corners to arbitrary shapes, you can modify rounded corners manually by using Sharpen Points, which is the button just to the left of Fillet Points. You can select two points that result in a rounded corner, click Sharpen Points, and it will miter them into a single point, then you can apply a new rounding value.

  • How to stop Illustrator from rounding corners of my shapes using brush tool

Trying to draw a skull eye but everytime I finish the shape, Illustrator rounds the corners into s semi-circle.  Arrggh!!  I am sure there is a setting I have been unable to find that could rectify this.  Can someone please direct me to where this is?  Im using CS6.  Thanks in advance.

The typical brush tool with default settings and there was also a brush called lineart.  This is partly tied to my last question I posted where sketeches werent coming out the way I wanted.  The shapes are being "auto-rounded" as soon as I finish the shape.

  • Where can I get a square shape with 2 rounded corners?

I don't know the name of the shape but it is square or rectangle with 2 rounded corners.
    It is picture # 156 at this link;

Or how would I go about making one in Motion?
    Thanks.

    hi
funny i did this very same shape the other week. as i remember i think i looked for an easy way but got bogged down. In the end I think I used a combination of a rounded rectangle and an unrounded version and masked the corners accordingly. This is motion 4 with the ability to round corners on all shapes though.

  • Rounded corners from image mask disappear with Drop Zone

    Hi All,
I'm really stumped here. I'm on Motion4 and per directions from other posts I have used the following method to attempt a mask shape. The desired outcome is a photo that has a nice square shape with rounded corners.
    1. Using a photo on the canvas.
    2. In the layers menu, I click on the image and select, Add Image Mask
    3. In the inspector I go to Image mask and drop in Frame17 from the contents folder.
The problem...every time the rounded corners from the shape seem to disappear. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? Or suggest another method.
Additional info from Image Mask Tab: Source Channel is set to Alpha, Mask Blend Mode is set to Add, automatically-I did not set these.

When you say that the rounded corners seem to disappear, what do you mean exactly? Are they there at first, but then disappear after you start playing the sequence? Or do the rounded corners not happen at all?
If the corners start, but disappear after playing the project, then it probably means that the Frame 17 image from the content folder is not as long as the image mask. As soon as the Frame ends, it will stop providing the source for the image mask. Fix this by making sure that Frame 17 is at least as long as your image mask.
Alt way, and easier unless you're working in a 3D project, is to simply draw a rectangle mask around your photo and in the Mask tab of the inspector, adjust the roundness parameter until the corners are sufficiently rounded to your liking.

  • How do I round some corners of a shape and leave other corners unrounded ?

    Hello All;
Could someone tell me how to round some corners of a illustration and leave some corners unrounded ? If I use Effect - Stylize - Round Corners, it works beautifully but it rounds all corners, even the ones I don't want rounded. See attached illustration. I do not want the four corners emclosed in the circle rounded.
Anyone know how to do this (easily, I hope) ?
    Thanks.
    Tim

    Tim,
That's a good one. What you can do is:
Make two rounded rectangles with the dimensions you require, and stack them on top of each other.
Go to the align palette and click the icon that centers the objects vertically.
From your attached illustration, it seems you want to avoid rounding the line segment in the middle top and bottom of each rectangle, so try this:
With the pen P tool, put the point of the pen on the first of (4)four anchor points you are going to add and click.
Now do the same thing for the other three anchor points.
You have now added two anchor points to each rounded rectangle
With the Direct Selection A tool, Shift/click on both of the furthest right anchor points you just created, and hold shift while clicking the corner radiuses that connect with those points on the right side of the illustration. You should have a total of six points highlighted altogether.
Now with your keyboard cursor controls, click the arrow down key as many times as you need to get the angle of the line segment that you were trying not to round.
If there is another way to do it, I'd like to know, but that should work. The corner rediuses you've moved change somewhat, you can adjust them if need be.
Using the grid and snap to point in the View section of the menu bar will help you align the added anchor points nicely.
Sounds like a lot, but I recreated your drawing the way you wanted in about 30 seconds.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ugly Rounded Corners on Shapes

Creating shapes in Flash CS3, regardless of drawing mode,
produces very funky-looking rounded corners. They're unacceptable
for publishing. Other Forum members have posted work-arounds such
as converting the stroke to a fill, or creating the shape in AI and
importing. But is it too much to ask a professional-level graphics
tool from the world's leading graphics software company to draw a
rounded corner smoothly? Has anyone else found a setting or
preference that would fix this issue?

They don't seem any diff than Flash 8 to me, and much more
    functional. Make
sure stroke hinting is on? Have a screenshot of what you're
    talking about?

  • Adding a frame border to rounded corners photo

New to PS..running current ver of 11.x... I found the rounded corners tutorial and that helps alot...but I have a number of photos on a website that I would like to also add a "border" to.
    sample image corner here:  http://members.cox.net/trinaz/roundercorner.gif
This is a clip up the upper right corner.  The tutorial will let me round my photo corners as needed...but is there another function that will give the rounded photos a thin "chrome-like" border like in the gif link ?
    Thanks, Tim

Just add a stroke using Layer Styles. Select the layer containing the frame border, go to the fx icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose Stroke. After that, select Bevel & Emboss from the same dialog and select Stroke Emboss from the Style dropdown

  • Round Corners on object in Live Paint Group

    Hello,
When I apply the Round Corners effect onto any one object in a Live Paint Group, it is applied onto the Group itself, thereby onto all objects in it instead of just the one I selected. Is there a way to apply the effect just onto the one object?
    Thanks in advance!

That allows me to apply Round Corners to the object I want, but I lose the advantages of the Live Paint Group (most importantly being able to move my original shapes around and have the resulting paintable areas update to my changes).
Another option I see is to apply Round Corners to the object and expand it before adding it to the Live Paint Group, but of course then I lose the ability to edit the effect.
I guess I'll have to go with one of those.

  • 3 rounded corners in Keynote

Any idea how I would create a square in Keynote with 3 rounded corners with one corner at 90º?
    Thanks
    Mike

Sorry for the double post answer, but I should have added that the above works if you don't have a stroke.
If you do do, then you have to put the square behind the rounded square and add one more shape the same fill as the others without a stroke and use it to cover the rounded corner stroke and group all three together.
Then if you think you might have to resize it, copy it, open preview, File>New From Clipboard (or command n) copy and paste back into Keynote.

  • Is there a way for export to create rounded corners?

I love creating layouts with Fireworks, but it always bothered me that it didn't recreate any rounded corners.
When CS6 came out with the CSS Properties window, I was happy to see that the CSS in the Properties window faithfully created my objects with rounded corners, so I had high hopes that the regular export would include this markup... but it didn't.
My current work-around seems very frustrating.  I export my file as HTML with CSS images... I get a perfectly rendered page with one exception... the corners are still square.   Then, I go back to Fireworks, open the CSS Properties window, then cut and paste the tags for the corners one by one into the CSS file.
It seems to me with such heavy emphasis on CSS integration, that  the export function should include the this code too.
Am I doing something wrong?  Or is this still an unsupported feature?

Use the CSS Properties panel to extract and copy CSS for the selected object on the canvas. It has no integration with the CSS and Images export workflow OR the HTML and Images export workflow (the latter of which produces a rigid, image-based, html table layout). HTML and Images export is really only suitable for clickable prototypes. CSS and Images export is really only suitable if you like re-writing all the CSS to match your normal workflow.
    General workflow:
    1) Add effects to vector shape (corners, drop shadow, glow, gradient fill, border, opacity, etc..)
    2) Open CSS Properties panel. CSS properties for selected object are displayed.
    3) Click the Copy All button in the panel.
    4) Switch to Dreamweaver or your preferred web editor.
    5) Paste the CSS into the desired class, id or element rule.
    6) View in Live View or Preview in Browser to see results.

  • Master slide and rounded corners

    Hi,
Would anyone be able to tell me if there is a way to replace master slides with different shapes, such as a rectangle with rounded corners? I'm using Captivate 7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Darrell.

This is not on a Master slide, but you can create rounded corners on the borders of your project. Go to Project > Table of Contents or Skin Editor > click the square icon underneath the Skin - that will take you to the borders. Then you can check the Show Borders > Style, click the drop down and select Rounded corners. You'd probably want to make sure you have all four edges selected.

  • Illustrator not able to round corners properly (w/ image sample)

When designing a logo, I want to be able to round corners properly, i.e. mathematically. When I specify a radius of 20 mm, I expect a radius of 20 mm, not various random radiuses. Illustrator simply isn't capable of doing this properly. I find this very strange, as this is the leading vector editing tool for designing logos (among others).
As a result of this, I've developed my own "manual" method of doing this, but it takes some time, and it's not elegant.
This image should be a little explanatory:
    http://img5.pictiger.com/948/17886618.gif?u=1237767818
(Note: When rounding corners, Illustrator doesn't even produce circular arcs -- they're a little deformed.)
Surely this can't be the way it's supposed to work? Anybody from Adobe care to answer?

Sorry for the bad link. Here's the image again, with alternates (in case the others go down):

    b Please note:
    * The blue dotted circles in the Illustrator-example on the left represents
    i the "imaginary circles"
that Illustrator uses when rounding corners.
    * The "manual method" on the right, shows what you'd actually expect Illustrator's Round Corners to do.
    @Harron K. Appleman:
-I'm on CS4 and use both Vista and OSX (but that doesn't really matter, as this also applies to earlier versions of Illustrator).
    -I'm using the
    i Effects > Stylize > Round Corners.
In the example I've used a simplified shape, to make it more clear what I mean.

  • Best method for rounded corners?

    Hi all,
Can someone please share the best method for creating rounded corners similar to the menu interface in Leopard? Actually the best representation I've seen, is in the Motion 3 Tutorials - Working with 3D. The Matte Shape filter in FCP is close, but not quite the cigar I'm looking for.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jim,
    • Select Clip
    • Add 4 point Garbage Matte
    • Activate all 4 corners by clicking on the labels 1-4
    • Adjust settings to your desires.
    As an example I used:
    • Smooth = 12
    • Choke = -47
    • Feather = 2
    Worked like a charm.
