Route.cfg

hi, i have a route.cfg specified routing all messages for a specific domain off to the ip address of an exchange server. usually works well but problems with the exchange server means some messages are not being delivered, but instead of the message being queued for delivery they are going out via the 'standard' route to the external smart host which fires back an undeliverable as it obviously doesn't recognise the internal domain thats specified.
i assume this means the route.cfg file is an order of preference as opposed to a fixed route, if thats the case is there a way of forcing it to only take the path specified ?
thanks

uwe, thanks for the response.
basically we're migrating from groupwise 7.03 to exchange 2010 (not my decision...) using the quest migrator. all mailboxes forward messages to a 'target.local' domain which is in effect the exchange system. the route.cfg file points at the ip address of the exchange system and 99% of messages are being routed properly but due to intermittent issues on the exchange system the ones that are not able to connect end up up going back down the smarthost route and we get undeliverables from them. we use messagelabs and if i run a report on their portal looking for *@target.local that shows me all the messages that have gone that way and as the only place those messages should end up is the exchange server theres not a lot of doubt where they're coming from
i'd always thought the functionality was that was a fixed route but as the documentation is a bit sparse outside of the basic config i can't find anything to confirm or deny it.

  • Can I use 2 ip addresses for 1 host in route.cfg?

Hi experts. I need to send encrypted e-mail to another domain. The mail server they list in DNS does not support encryption so I need to send to a different server there that does. They gave me 2 ip addresses - can I list them both for a domain in route.cfg? Something like this -
    joeblow.com [1.2.3.4] [1.2.3.5]
    Or...
    joeblow.com [1.2.3.4]
    joeblow.com [1.2.3.5]

The only option I could think of is setting up their domain in your own
DNS server and define two mx records there. A tad nasty, but doable.

  • Multiple destination hosts in route.cfg for single domain

    GW 8.0.2
We have route.cfg set up to send mail for some destination domains direct instead of through the default relay.
One of the destination domains we want to add to route.cfg has multiple MX hosts they can receive mail on.
Is it possible to add multiple host IP addresses for a single destination domain in route.cfg?
    for example:
abc.com has mail receivers with MX records:
    abc.com 3600 IN MX 9 10.0.0.25
    abc.com 3600 IN MX 2 10.0.1.25
    abc.com 3600 IN MX 2 10.0.2.25
    abc.com 3600 IN MX 9 10.0.3.25
    - is there a way to put all those into route.cfg for abc.com for resilience?
As I've read that route.cfg works in a similar manner to the hosts file, would a space separted list of IP addresses work?

You get to list one and only one entry. No load balancing, no failover.

  • GWIA and Route.cfg

My customer is currently moving away from GroupWise to the Google Cloud email solution, that said they have a question regarding how the GWIA can be used to forward mail messages to team members from sources such as routers, switches, etc,.
    Situation:
Status messages, and alerts are currently handled through the GWIA which is used to forward those messages onto their respective parties. With the introduction of the Google Cloud email service, there is no such method for forwarding those alerts off to these respective parties. They would like to have the GWIA be used to facilitate this process. Basically they would like to maintain a GroupWise GWIA(s) to forward emails to team members. Is this even a workable solution, a GWIA forwarding out to the Google Cloud?
    Additional questions from Customer:
1.) Currently they do not know exactly how the GWIA would handle internal addresses (nxxx.xxx) messages?
2.) There are currently 20 or more white lists (smtp relay(s) to GWIA), if these white lists send email to the internal address or nxxxx.xxx domain how would the GWIA handle this?
3.)Google Applications mx records change every ten minutes, what is the best way to configure the route.cfg (or is that the best way to handle this request)?
4.) Can a DNS name be used in the route.cfg or just IP address? (I currently am under the impression that route.cfg can only handle IP addresses)
    Thank you,

Your customer has the need for an internal SMTP service which forwards everything to Google? In this case just enter the hostname or IP of the Google SMTP service as a relay host and make sure Google accepts whatever comes from the GWIA's IP.
If using the GWIA for such stuff is a licensing issue, I don't know. Check with Novell.

    Good day,
Sorry for not responding sooner to your answer. Further I apologize for any confusions. Basically the second point you brought forth is what they are looking for.
1.) They want an internal SMTP server to forward everything to Google.
The question that they had was in respect to placing a DNS name in the Route.cfg, or would they even need to do that in the case that you described above? Looks like they can just use the DNS name or IP address of the Google Device, and as long as the Google Device is able to accept it as an incoming relay they should be alright. Is that a correct statement on my part?
This is going to be a temporary solution, until they are able to stand up another solution (most likely Postfix) I have spoken with Novell anout licensing and that has been answered.
Thank you for any further assistance that you can offer.

  • Manual Router CFG editing Help Needed!!

Ok so what I'm trying to do is to configure my Linksys WRT54GL by either editing the .CFG file that I can download from it or by maybe uploading a configuration file to it through tftp. I have not found an editor that will let me work with the .CFG file!
Ultimate goal: I need to put more port forwarding options in then the 10 that it will let me on the web page. Please help!!

Linksys firmware is limited to 10 port forward slots.  You can not change it.

  • Second GWIA for routing to Exchange?

I know there are ton of threads about coexistence between Groupwise and Exchange and this maybe answered in one of them, but I havent found it. We have coexistence setup between Groupwise 7.02 and Exchange 2010. Simply using SMTP routing via GWIA route.cfg file that points our internal Exchange domain (exchange.domain.net) to the Exchange hub transport server. Since Groupwise is the authoritative domain still, we have single a GWIA that routes all inbound/outbound internet email for Groupwise as well as routes mail to/from Exchange. This configuration has worked well for months until we've had major issues with that GWIA server (Netware) randomly hosing up recently. Of course, when that happens SMTP mail flow is broken not only to/from the internet but also internally to/from Exchange. What I would like to do is setup a secondary GWIA (on a seperate Windows server) that handles ONLY the mail routing to/from Exchange. This way, if our primary GWIA server is broken at least internal mail will flow between the systems. I am unsure of how to do this, or if this is even a feasible solution. We are going to be in a coexistence state for several months during our migration, so I need to ensure internal mail flow between GW and EX is as stable as possible.
Any input/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Host down 450 'the sequel'

    Dear Forum people,
    Again I come for help.
After working for months, the 450 host down error has returned.
I have down nothing to trigger it, and this is honest, i was not even in the office.
So I have done some digging and I am reading 2 things : DNS and route.cfg
First I will descripe my setup
    Groupwise 8 on OES 11
The box is NATted, so internal adress 192.168.1.7
    Router is 192.168.1.1
    External dns : user.ispname.com
    External smtp : mail.ispname.com
    Solution 1 DNS
I have placed the DNS server adresses of my ISP in both the router as the Groupwise box
This seems to work ok. I can telnet to mail.ispname.com on port 25
    Solution 2 route.cfg
I have created the file and placed in it my external ip and ip of server
    user.ispname.com [192.168.1.7]
( is the ip adress supposed to be in brackets ? )
Still I keep the 450 Host down error and mail will not send.
    Any ideas ?

  • Host Down Messages

We are running GroupWise 7.0.2. All mail seems to be going in and out just fine, but we receive hundreds of the following messages every day.

    MSG ##### Response: 450 Host down (sacog.org)
DMN: MSG ##### Send Failure: 450 Host down (sacog.org)

Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

    Hi Massimo,
Y: is just the drive letter I have mapped to our GW system. I should have replaced it with VOL1.
Thanks for the update. I was about to post a follow up to my previous message. When I first made the change, I still saw several of the messages scroll by, but I've noticed that there are fewer and fewer of them as time goes on. I was wondering if it had to due with old messages.
Thanks again for all your help. These error messages have been on the back of my mind for several years. I've tried Google searches several times, but could never find an answer.
The messages that were causing these errors in GWIA, are they all return notifications of undeliverable e-mails that are coming back, but have been undeliverable to in-house users? Should they start seeing e-mails telling them if a message was undeliverable now?
    thanks,

That's normal for old messages still sitting in the queue, the change
will not apply to them. But new messages shouldn't produce it any more,
and it will gradually go away when the old defered messages expire. YOu
can check them in the .\defer directory of your GWIA.

  • GWIA 450 Host Down

GWIA transfering mail to an outside mail server : mail.outside.com
    Logs show 450 Host down.
I can ping mail.outside.com, and read a lot of posts.
    I have tried :
Different DNS server, does not work and should not be neccessary as I can ping outside host.
Shutting down the firewall completely ; does not work
    No virus software installed yet.
I have checked, but I have no route.cfg file ( never had )
I also read something about "reverse dns" but do not know what to do with that in GWIA setup.
    Any ideas ?
    Stephan

Right ; more info, sorry for this.
    OES11 server, with groupwise.
Problem started after installing webaccess on the same server.
This messed up all things, imanager is unreachable and above error in groupwise gwia.
Webaccess could be reached, and was working.
So I started to delete the webaccess stuff manually, to try and get things working again.
Tried deleting the gwia and reinstalling.
But it seems webaccess messed up something with the routing as well.
    So :
Traceroute is not working, imanager is not working.
Oh and this might me a lead :
In gwia, "Hostname A Dns record" I can change to dnsname.isp.com
But in the webconsole it changes everytime to servername.dnsname.isp.com
Could webaccess have messed up something to cause this ?
And how can I try to fix this ?

Thank you very much. This problem is now solved as I have used FORMS_DDL to execute the procedure from database and not from Forms. But could anyone of you tell me if we can have a link in Forms for BLOB object, where if there is a word document in the database BLOB object, by clicking on that link, that document should open in word. Similarly if there is an image file in the BLOB object, then clicking on that link in Forms should open it some Image processing software which that OS has. Is this really possible? Please let me know. If we update the contents of the document opened, they should get reflected in the database BLOB object. Is this really a HERCULIAN task?

  • GWIA not sending mail to the internet

Let me start out saying that i have no experience with Novell products. I am a person starting a local business and in need for a email server. I have chosen GroupWise 8 for many different reasons. I have Windows Server 2003. GroupWise 8 has been deployed successfully. I am able to receive emails from the internet, but not send emails to the internet. I ether get a error 450 or 550 error. Thats all on the GWIA. I have made a route.cfg. I have no idea if I have the correct IP address of the domain I'm trying to send email to(E.G gmail.com) How could I find out the IP Address of a email domain so I could put in the route.cfg file? I tried doing the ping but no luck. I have everything setup correcly on the domain register side. So, could some please describe what those error codes above mean and how this problem could be fix. Any kind of help will be appreciated. Once again, i have not experience with GroupWise or Novell Products. I'm trying to train myself!

  • Gwia and Google Apps

We are moving to Google Apps and I am having trouble sending to my domain from GroupWise. I have our mx record routing to Google and that works fine. If I send from Groupwise to forward a message to Google, it does not go out gwia, says delayed. I changed the foreign name to a different domain and changed the internet addressing on the GroupWise domain to an alternate. I can send anywhere but to the domain I moved to Google. There must be another setting or switch in GroupWise to see that doamin is not internal any longer? Any thought are appreciated.
