Router 2600 & stacked in ROMMON option !

Hello every one,
I have got 2 cisco routers 2600 series and I am only using them for practicing my CCNA, when I changed the passwords on them, after a few days I didn't log in to one of them and as a result I forgot the password whcih resulted me ending in "rommon" option, after following the password recovery procedures but I was not able to get through of the complete process of the steps in recovering the password and when I was in half way through the recovery process it was suddenly stopped and then I had to turn it off and back again because it was jamed and I had not any other option. I was advised by some friends that I had to reload my router the operating system.
Now, my problem is that I have not been able to install the IOS image from my other router to this router that I have problem with. I have never done it before and I would appreciate your help and assistance if you could explain to me in some easy and clear steps of how to instal it.
Note: The router that I have got problem with is in it's rommon option only and it does not accept any sort of command.

This time it reloaded it as I did the below but still could not change the password:
rommon 3 > confreg 0x2102
You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect
rommon 4 > reset

  • 3rd party router does not have PPPoA option and wo...

    Hi there, I just switched to the regular BT Broadband this week, and I opted out of a Home Hub 4 as I already own a modem + router that I used to connect to my old ISP with in bridged mode.
    However, for some reason I cann't get this same setup to work with BT Broadband. If I connect my modem up on its own and set it to PPPoA/PPPoE mode, and enter the BT username and password, the internet works fine, however if I connect the modem to my router's WAN port, set the modem to bridged mode, and enter the appropriate settings into my router, it simply does not connect.
    My modem is a TP-Link 8817 and my router is an Asus RT-N15U.
    On my modem there are the following encapsulation settings I can use: "Dynamic IP Address", "Static IP Address", "PPPoA/PPPoE" & "Bridge Mode".
    On my Asus router, there are the following encapsulation settings: "Automatic IP", "Static IP", "PPPoE", "PPTP", "L2TP".
    I received a sheet with my modem showing the settings for each UK ISP, and it states that BT Broadband uses PPPoA, however my Asus router only has a PPPoE option and it's not connecting when I choose this option whilst my modem is in bridge mode.
    Can anyone help me, or am I simply snookered?

    As the Asus is PPPoE only I think you may be out of luck unless one of the gurus has any ideas. You may have to put it in a box until you get infinity- sorry.
    I presume you were on an ADSL connection with your previous ISP.

  • 2851 Router VPN - stack for level DMA/Timer Interrupt running low 36/9000

    I have a site to site VPN. On my hub router I am seeing the following message EVERY minute in the log!
    %sys-6-stacklow: stack for level DMA/Timer Interrupt running low, 36/9000
    I have been trying to figure out what the DMA/Timer Interrupt is and what is causing it to run low.
    If I run the "show stacks" command I can see:
    <output omitted>
    Interrupt level stacks:
    Level     Called     Unused/Size     Name
    2      1578216246     36/9000     DMA/Timer Interrupt
    I am also occasionaly seeing the following
    %crypto--4-pkt_replay_error:decrypt: replay check failed connection id=7 sequence number=16171319
    I don't know if they are related or not, but I need to find out what is causing the DMA/timer interrupt messages.
    Thanks.

    It just rebooted
    This router it just stands in front of a few servers and applies NAT.
    So far this had happened a few times but since morning it rebooted already 3 times.
    The Sagem ADSL router at my house has longer uptime. wtf!?!?

  • MSI P674 G43 - i7 2600 (Not K): Missing options for eoverclock

    Hi people, good day to all.
    I've decided go further with my rig and OC my CPU after had a sucessfully GPU OC (GTX580 SC even more OC to 860/2070/1088v)
    First my rig specifications:
    -Mobo: MSI P67a G43 (BIOS up to date, i'm sure of that, i did it today)
    -Corsair Vengance 4GB*2 1333 or 1600, not sure. Anyway.
    -Intel 2600 (Non K)
    -Thermaltake Frio (Which actually does a great work, because my ambient temps are between 35 and 38 celcius degrees, and it keep my CPU at 38 on IDLE -when no OC'ed and 63 MAX when fully loaded playing games)
    -Normal HD
    Thats all the relevant.
    Let me show you the options that i'm able to see in the BIOS:
    1-General Bios Options under Overclocling Menu:
    2-CPU Features topic:
    3-CPUZ summary: (By the time i took that screenshot, it had a overclock by multiplier to 42, following disabling and enabling things like: Disable:
    Limit CPUID Maximum
    Power Technology
    C1E Support
    OverSpeed Protection
    Spread Spectrum
    Enable:
    Internal PLL Overvoltage
    Execute Disable Bit
    Intel Virtualization Tech )
    As you can see, no mather what i do, i always get 3.891as core speed. Intel Turbo boost gadget show me 3.9 when load, but still not getting 4.2 as it supposed to be.
    I saw some people post and videos, someo of them managed to get this processor to 4.5Ghz, i dont wanna that now, just get 4.2 (as appears in the BIOS UEFI after set the core ratio to 42).
    I see some of them options and they are able to modify the BLCK and raise it up to 100. One of those videos i saw show how raising it value a bit more the 2600(non K) get 4.5Ghz or so as you can see here: youtube.com/watch?v=lOyTpi-OoCI
    Can any one give me a hand with this? Check CPUZ, never go upper x39.
    Thank you.

    Quote from: XFM on 06-January-13, 10:47:51
    The only OC you can get with 2600 is by 'Turbo Boost' and that according to specs is "Max Turbo Frequency 3.8 GHz". I sure don't know where you got the idea you can OC non 'K' CPU but where ever or whoever you got that idea from is dead wrong. For sure you need a 'K' model CPU if you want more OC than 'Turbo' on the non 'K' CPU.
     Edit:  http://ark.intel.com/products/52213
     I had a 2600K and ran it 24/7 for a while at 4.6 GHz but dropped to 4.3 GHz after a month or so at the higher speed.
    I got the idea from such videos like this: youtube.com/watch?v=lOyTpi-OoCI and many other info i found in web about it.  And by the way, the max i got so far is 4.0, not 3.8, i know, it shound't be, but it does, and seems like i'm not the only one.
    Here is a screenshot from my PC:
    @Froggy Gremlin Thanks, man. Gotta give a try, but in the second picture i post, i'm inside CPU features and Core ratio limits doesn't appear.

  • When allocating memory on stack for vm_args.options, is it safe to delete?

    I am allocating memory to hold options that are passes to the JVM before calling JNI_CreateJavaVM().
    Is it safe to delete the option string? i.e. does the JVM copy the option or does it just retain the pointer?
    e.g.
    const char* cp = loadClassPathFromConfigFile();
    const char* cpSysProp = "-Djava.class.path=";
    char* cpCopy = new char[strlen(classpath)+strlen(cpSysProp)+1];
    strcpy(cpCopy, cpSysProp);
    strcat(cpCopy, cp);
    JavaVMInitArgs vm_args;
    JavaVMOption options[1];
    options[0].optionString = cpCopy;
    // etc...
    // call JNI_CreateJavaVM(...)
    delete[] cpCopy;  // is this safe?Edited by: Bill_Robertson_42 on Aug 10, 2008 10:44 AM

    If you call Create again it will throw as error saying that it already exists.
    And you can get the existing VM via the appropriate method (whatever it is) and it still works.
    So one could call it for example when exiting the application, and delete the memory then. Only real purpose then for doing the memory cleanup is to keep a memory check tool from complaining.
    Conversely one shouldn't wrap the create/delete into a method that one wants to call repeatedly in the app, because it won't work.

  • Cisco Router 2600 Serial Port communications

    I am working on configuring communications Router to Router through serial port. I have seen some videos and read some documentations. My configuration is as follows:
    R1 (DCE) -> f0/0 192.168.1.1/24 - s0/0 192.168.2.1/24 <-----> Router2 ->(DTE)  S0/1 192.168.2.2/24 f0/0 192.168.3.1.
    I have configured the routing tables at both routers. It works when I ping from router to router and router to hosts successfully. Nevertheless, I can ping from hosts to the default gateways, but I cannot ping from hosts to the serial ports (adjacency). In short I cannot communicate from Network1 to Network2. Please do I have to do any extra configuration.

    note: i connected cross cable between router and my pc and i put image of router in tftp_file with tftp server so when the router wants confirm y or n and i make y so my connection area connect and disconnect and never make connection with router so how can i slove it please and give me the steps in my pc and the router i used solarwinds tftp server ...

    Well failing arp means that either the interface did not come up or the attached device did not respond.  There is very limited
    troubleshooting ability for this as the router only expects the interface to work and there is nothing we can get as an
    output to verify.  You could try something like wireshark to see if the interface is receiving the arp request.
    Otherwise if you don't have any image on the device the only other solution is xmodem

    The problem is likely due to the fact that modifies the software packages installed on your computer. In my case the error was in Kaspersky Internet Security. Helped only the removal of the product.

  • CISCO 2600 Router Flash Image

    Hi guys and gals. Not pay attentiong while performing an update, I mistakingly confirmed an erasure of the flash system on my 2600 series router. The dreaded rommon> is returned on reboot. I tried to download the image files from Cisco.com but the password security issues they do not have is preventing me from doing it. If anyone has a copy please help.
    Thanks
    Wade

    No image to send but I can tell you that if you send a blank e-mail to [email protected] from the e-mail address you registered your CCO profile to Cisco will automatically reset your password and e-mail it to you in a few minutes (usually).

  • Best Practice for ASA Route Monitoring Options?

    We have one pair Cisco ASA 5505 located in different location and there are two point to point links between those two locations, one for primary link (static route w/ low metric) and the other for backup (static route w/ high metric). The tracked options is enabled for monitoring the state of the primary route. the detail parameters regarding options as below,
    Frequency: 30 seconds               Data Size: 28 bytes
    Threshold: 3000 milliseconds     Tos: 0
    Time out: 3000 milliseconds          Number of Packets: 8
    ------ show run------
    sla monitor 1
    type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.200.200.2 interface Intersite_Traffic
    num-packets 8
    timeout 3000
    threshold 3000
    frequency 30
    sla monitor schedule 1 life forever start-time now
    ------ show run------
    I'm not sure if the setting is so sensitive that the secondary static route begins to work right away, even when some small link flappings occur.
    What is the best practice to set those parameters up in the production environment. How can we specify the reasonanble monitoring options to fit our needs.
    Thank you for any idea.

    Hello,
    Of course too sensitive might cause failover to happen when some packets get lost, but remember the whole purpose of this is to provide as less downtime to your network as possible,
    Now if you tune these parameters what happen is that failover will be triggered on a different time basis.
    This is taken from a cisco document ( If you tune the sla process as this states, 3 packets will be sent each 10 seconds, so 3 of them need to fail to SLA to happen) This CISCO configuration example looks good but there are network engineers that would rather to use a lower time-line than that.
    sla monitor 123
    type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.0.0.1 interface outside
    num-packets 3
    frequency 10

    Hi,
    In my criteria, i am doing a union of 2 Fiscal Years, 2010 and 2011 with the following columns
    Team | Priority | Fiscal Year | FY2010 Sale Amount| FY2010 Target Amount
    union with

    In my Pivot Table - Line and Bar - 2D stacked - chart only option, I have teh follwoing
    Section Dimension - Team
    Rows Dimension - Fiscal year
    Column measure - Sale Amount and Target Amount
    I get a chart with Fiscal year in the X axis, and amounts in the Y axis and the two bars one for 2010 Sale amount and one for 2011 Sale amount. I also get the line combo with Target amount. I need to stack the same bars(sale amount bars) with Priority(which has values as critical, non-critical). How can I do this? Please help.

  • Cisco 2600 series router and cable modems

    Hi everyone, I am just about to get started preparing for my CCNA... I am looking to pick up some used Cisco 2600 series routers to set up a home lab. I am wondering if it is possible to connect a cable modem directly to a 2600 series router? If so, do I need a certain type of WIC? I want to go from my cable modem, to a router, to my switch. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Yes you can, using the Ethernet port on the cable modem, you can connect the cable modem to the router 2600, and the 2600 comes with builtin ethernet or fastethernet (according to your platform).
    HTH,
    Mohammed Mahmoud.

  • 2851 Router will not boot from CF, after reload goes into rommon

    I recently obtained a 2851 and have been battling this issue for a week now. An odd set of circumstances happen with the bootstrap startup process. If the router has loss of power or when reloaded; it fails to read the CF card and boots to rommon. I can tftp an image to it (tftpdnld -r) and IOS CAN read the flash card along with any saved configuration.
    In fact once in IOS, I can wr mem and print the hardware details of the CF card. Once I reload the router it goes to rommon, fails to open the flash, then sits until i tftp the image back. When the router load IOS, it also loads the startup config.
    I don't think it's a problem with the CF card as IOS can read it. I've tried formatting the card from IOS and from my pc as FAT, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS - it didn't make a different. I updated the ROMMON to allow for USB booting but haven't purchased a USB Drive yet for testing. The upgrade didn't resolve this issue either. It almost seems like a firmware problem with the EPROM.
    I've played with the config register to see what, if any, impact it had. Currently it's set to 0x2102, putting it in the diag register didn't produce any other errors than what's listed below.
    I'm stumped and out of ideas. Hoping somebody has some insight on what could be causing this to happen.
    Apprecite your time reading my question.

    Yes, I have tried different types of CF and USB with the same result. I have "official" cisco 256mb cf and a sandisk cf. I have tried various brands of usbflash.
    I added boot system statements to the config to cf, then usb0, then usb1 to see if perhaps one would read. It looks like it doesn't bother after the first device fails. This is only for my studies and I can deal with "tftpdnld -r" every time I boot it. Just was trying to nail down any other possibilies.

                                                  ISP1                   ISP2
    We would like to have routing (and vLans) done on the switches, and have internet failover from ISP1 to ISP2 if ISP1 fails, and go back to ISP1 when it comes back up. Trunks between all switches. We also would like to have all devices on the same vLAN if possible.
    What is the best approach to do this?
    (Note that left and right sides [in brown and green font] are in separate site locations, and that user end [in red font] switches only have ip base, which limits eigrp functionality.)
    We tried following this, but doesn't fit our site exactly:
    http://www.geekmungus.co.uk/cisco-and-networking/failoverinternetconnectionusingipslatrackingandeigrproutingforinter-sitelinks
    (Also ran into issue where switch in the middle would have two routes to internet - so possible issue with priority routes)
    Thanks in advance

    The servers in SiteB (3750_2) are just replicated copies of the servers in SiteA (3750_1). However, there always needs to be an active connection between SiteA and SiteB. Only time that the UserSite(3750_3) needs to access servers in SiteB is when SiteA is completely down.
    However, if the servers in SiteA (3750_1) can still be reached through via site SiteB (3750_2) when the direct connection between the UserSite(3750_3) and SiteA (3750_1) is down, that route should also be available (if possible).
    The above is good news because it means we can route optimally for both internet and client to server traffic.  STP is blocking one of the links from 3750_3, the one to 3750_2.
    A couple of questions from the configurations you posted -
    1) on 3750_3 you said in a previous post the clients use the vlan 10 interface IP on 3750_3 as their default gateway. But there are no default routes in the routing table on 3750_3 so how does internet work at the moment ?
    In fact there are no default routes on any of the stacks. Is internet not working at the moment because i can't see how it can be.
    What is weird is that you have static default routes configured on each 3750 IP Services stack but they are not even showing up in the routing tables on that stack ?
    2) the 192.168.50.32/29 and 192.168.50.40/29 networks. They don't seem to be doing anything ? I think they were meant to be for the uplinks from 3750_3 but they haven't been used for this.
    3) the IP services stack connections to the routers. Do you know what IP subnet is used for this. It looks like it is vlan 10 again but can you confirm ie. what are the routers LAN interface IP addresses ?
    So if you can answer the above we can probably start with reconfiguration. There is going to be quite a lot. You can however do some prepatory work without affecting anything -
    1) pick a new subnet for the client vlan and create the scope on your DHCP servers. If you use both DHCP servers then split the scope in half between DHCP servers
    2) pick a new vlan number for use for the clients
    3) assuming the router's LAN interfaces are in vlan 10 i will need 4 x /30 subnets for all four uplinks ie. 2 from 3750_3 and 2 for each IP Services stack to router connection. You can just give me a class C if you want and i will break it down
    4) we only want the new client vlan on 3750_3. If 3750_3 is in VTP client mode then it will not work once we change to L3 uplinks so we need to change the VTP mode to VTP transparent on the 3750_3. Once you have done this we can then create the new client subnet and the L3 vlan interface for the client subnet + ip helper-addresses and this still won't affect your current setup.
    All of the above can be done with no downtime although if you change to VTP transparent do this out of hours just in case there is an impact. There shouldn't be but it is worth being safe.
    Next are the changes that will require downtime. I appreciate it is three separate sites but because you are changing the uplinks it needs to be done all at once. Basically we need to -
    1) on all clients release the current IP address. Then have them shutdown.
    2) modify EIGRP config for new client vlan and remove all the other stuff as it is not needed
    3) reconfigure all uplinks to be L3 on switch stacks and then check the routing tables to make sure there is a route for vlan 10.
    3) allocate all ports for clients into the new client vlan
    4) bring clients back up and they should then get new IPs from the DHCP server
    5) remove any unnecessary configuration from 3750_3
    6) reconfigure 3750_1 and 3750_2 connections to their routers
    7) modify EIGRP configuration on both IP Services stacks
    8) modify IP SLA configuration on 3750_1. Note there is no point in tracking on 3750_2 because only when ISP1 fails do you want to use ISP2 and if ISP2 fails while ISP1 is down there is nothing to fail back to.
    9) modify EIGRP config on the routers
    that's a brief outline of what needs doing so you can see it is a fair bit and will need careful planning. As far as the default route goes there are two options and i'm still thinking it all through -
    1) have both routers generate a defaut route and apply a delay on the 3750_3 to 3750_2 uplink so 3750_1 is preferred. The advantage of this is that 3750_3 has both routes so if the uplink to 3750_1 it can immediately switch to 3750_2. The delay would also apply to vlan 10 as well so traffic would go to 3750_1 which is what you want.
    2) have only 3750_1 generate a default route and only if ISP1 fails does ISP2 then generate a default route. The advantage of this is that you would not need to tweak the delay to get ti right but if ISP1 fails there will be a delay before 3750_2 realises the default route has gone and generates it's own.
    So it's a tradeoff. I'll have another look at the configs etc. and decide which is best.
    It is a fairly large redesign but at the moment the configurations are quite confusing because there is a lot of extra stuff which isn't doing anything as far as i can see. I am happy to provide configs and explanations as to what you should see and also happy to be around when you implement it ie. e-mail or if you can't e-mail (no internet access ) then on the phone. You would just need to let me know when you needed me and i'll make sure i am available (no charge obviously).
    If you could answer the above questions and let me know how you want to proceed then we can take it from there.
