Router antenna extending cable

We have the Cisco WRT54G wifi router in many offices in this building. This router has two antennas. These antenna are screw into the back of the router unit. The antenna is male and router side is female of the connector.
Can you please tell me what are these connectors (some type of RF connectors)? How can we get extension cables for these to move the antenna from one fix location to another point? Thank you.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Alot of the lower end consumer stuff switched to a smaller connector (RP-SMA), cisco stuck with the
standard RP-TNC, although some bigger/outdoor antennas may have N, but cables that go from N to RP-TNC are readily available.
Here is the link provides the detailed information: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/product_data_sheet09186a008008883b....
So it depends where that type of cable is being used.

  • AP Aironet 1242ag with AIR-ANT1728 antenna , extend cable

Good day and thx in advance for any help.
I 'm administration an Aironet 1242ag, and we are currently buying an
    AIR-ANT1728
as antenna. The standard cable for the antenna is 0.9m long, and It could be insufficient for my needs.
    So a few questions:
    Can i extend it ?
    AIR-CAB050LL-R could fit?
The connectors should be 1 male, 1 female?
    Thank you again
    Francesco

You can extend it, but you will have some signal loss depending on the length of cable. These antennas have 'N' connectors and the cable will be fine since it has one female and one male 'N' connector. If this will be mounted outside make sure you use coax seal on the connector.

  • Conecting AEBS and AExpress to a Verizon wireless router to extend network

I have Verizon Fios and with that I have the wireless router that Verizon provides. The signal is great as long as I am in my office. However, in other rooms in the house the performance is decreased significantly. Before having this router I was set up with an AEBS and the performance was great.
My question is, "how can I extend my network by linking the AEBS and/or the Express with the Verizon router?" I have to have their router so I would be using the AEBS or Express to boost the signal through my 2 story brick home.
    Please help if you can...thanks

I'm not familiar with the Verizon FiOS-supplied routers, but you should be able to connect an AirPort Extreme Base Station to the FiOS router via Ethernet cable and create your own wireless network with all Apple devices set up in bridge mode.
Turn off the wireless network on the FiOS router, if possible. The idea is that all wireless clients will receive IP addresses from the FiOS router but will connect to it wirelessly via the Apple devices.

  • Router connected to cable modem by Ethernet port cannot get IP address from DHCP.

I have an ethernet cable on Fa0/0 connecting my 1841 router to my cable modem. The issue is that the router cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP when I have the "ACL-OUTSIDE-IN" ACL applied inbound on the Fa0/0 interface. I tried to allow all BOOTP and BOOTPS traffic in my ACL, but still no luck. I really don't want to run the router without a simple ACL firewall and connect it to the internet. When I take off the ACL off of Fa0/0, the router is able to get an IP address via DHCP.

  • Need dock extender cable that works with bumpre case

    Hi,
Putting a bumper case on an iPhone 4 completely resolves the antenna issue (at least it has for me). The problem is that third party dock connectors such as my car charger won't work with a bumper case because the bumper case is made to exactly fit an Apple manufactured dock cable and the dock housing on my charger is to big to fit. Does anyone know specific extender cables (manufacturer and part number) that will work when the phone is in a bumper case?
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Can i use another router to extend my wireless network of my airport extreme?

i have a billion router (moddel BiPAC 7300W) I just got myself the airport extreme, i want to use the extreme as the main router and extend the network using the billion router.
steps i have followed on the extreme is as follows:
    INTERNET
connection sharing: Distrobute a range of IP addresses
    cofig IPv4:set to my home network range(manually) - ip,subnet,router,dns
    DHCP
access control: mac address of billion router set to all day every day
steps i have followed on the billion router:
    disabled NAT
    disabled DHCP
ethernet address: same range as extreme ip, actual ip op extreme is xxx.xxx.xxx.254, on billion xxx.xxx.xxx.253
    disabled RIP
    set wireless mode to 802.11b+g+n
    channel id: auto
    channel width:20/40mhz
    disable wps
    disable vmm
Wireless Distribution System (WDS) - added the 3 mac addresses the utility displayed, 5ghz and 2.4ghz and also the ethernet.
restarted both routers, not picking up all the devices connected to the network.
can any one please help me?

i want to use the extreme as the main router and extend the network using the billion router.
Unfortunately, WDS was never adopted as an official standard in the industry, so very few routers from other manufacturers are known to be compatible with Apple's WDS settings. The known devices are as follows:
    Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    BT Voyager 2091 or 2100
    Buffalo WGR-G54
    Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (through version v4)
    Netgear WGR614 v6
Thompson 585v6 wireless router (40 bit WEP works but stronger encryption does not)
connection sharing: Distrobute a range of IP addresses
You would not use this setting unless your service provider has furnished you with a specific range of IP addresses to use for your devices. Is that the case?
Normally, when the AirPort Extreme is functioning as the "main" router, the setting for Connection Sharing is set to "Share a public IP address"
Wireless Distribution System (WDS) - added the 3 mac addresses the utility displayed, 5ghz and 2.4ghz and also the ethernet.
You indicated that you had configured things this way on the Billion router. But, you did not indicate whether you had set the Wireless Mode for the AirPort Extreme to "Participate in a WDS Arrangement".
If you have not already done so, this might improve your chances of establishing a connection between the AirPort Extreme and Billion router for the WDS.
To access these settings on the AirPort Extreme, you would need to open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup. Then click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons. Change the setting for Wireless Mode to "Participate in a WDS Arrangement".
Note....you may need to hold down the option key on your Mac, (or it might be alt or control if you are using a PC) to display the WDS setting.
Once you do this, then a WDS tab will now appear next to the Wireless tab. Click on the WDS tab to set up the AirPort Extreme as the WDS Main and enter the MAC address of the Billion router.
As I mentioned previously, it is extremely unlikely that the Apple and Billion devices will be compatible for WDS, but probably worth a try....since  you never know when something just might work.
Even if it does....WDS operates only at "g" wireless speeds, so you will lose any of the faster "n" speed capabilities of the AirPort Extreme in this type of setting.
    Please post on your results.

  • Digital AV adapter + extender cable?

    Hi,
I have the Apple Digital AV adapter to connect my 4S to the TV via HDMI. It's ok for watching videos or anything not needing input. I'd really like to use it for mirroring games onto the TV but the cable is so short, the adapter gets in the way and is always falling out and it can't be good for the iPhone or the AV adapter. I hoped I might be able to use dock connector extender cable and have tried three so far, all of which say they carry, video, data and charge (17 core) but none have worked so far. Is what I want to do impossible or is there a cable out there which will do the job? Do Apple make such a cable?
Hoping someone out there has done this and can point me to a solution
    Regards, Jeff.

You are correct, I do want the AppleTV , desparately, but persuading the wife will not be easy. I was afraid you were going to give the answer you did, there must be more going on in the AV adapter than a simple pass-thru cable can provide.
I have heard that there is noticable delay when playing games wirelessly on the AppleTV, that would be a deal breaker if so. Anyone comment on delays in gaming?
    Regards, Jeff.

  • IR Receiever Extender Cable

Does the IR Extender Cable for Motorola  that Verizon sells online work for Cisco CHS 335 HDC STB?

Thanks for the response. I did call the reps a couple of times and they were unable to help and either told me they didnt know or didnt have one that worked. I have since purchased one that works from an online retailer.

  • Question for Hatter; re: Newer Technology eSATA Extender Cable

    Greetings Hatter,
I read in a recent post that you were using the Newer Technology Extender Cable to hook up drives to the extra 2 SATA ports on the Mac Pro's logic board.
I have a FirmTek enclosure (and a bunch of internal drives) that I used with my G5, and I'd like to continue using it with the Mac Pro.
Quick question: how is the cable working for you? Any problems?
Thank you for all the valuable information you post on these forums.
    H.

The other threads on Newer kit, and www.xlr8yourmac.com report, are a good resource.
Drives have to be on at startup; can't be unmounted and can't turn on or off while the system is up. Excellent otherwise.
I added a 1x 2-channel controller also so I now have two choices and makes it easy to work with 4 external drives.
It was a real sweat to connect the Newer SATA cable to inside ports.
In the end, using the SeriTek (or Sonnet Tempo) makes more sense overall.

I have a cable modem that is also a router connected by a wire to the Airport extreme base station. Officially, the Airport should be used as a bridge, disabling the distribute IP option. The thing is this modem ***** and I can't replace it because its from my cable company and also used as IP phone. I would like the Airport to be the DHCP router and handle all the NAT. However, when I turn on the distribute IP option the Airport is freezing.
Note that there is no way to shut down DHCP router on the cable modem.
The modem uses 192.168.1.1 type addresses. Should the airport distribution also be configured to this type of address or to a different one, such as 10.0.0.1.
Is there an optimal way to use the airport DHCP and NAT, bypassing the DHCP of the modem?
    Thanks,
    Y.

The disabling of the DHCP in the router is a must. Without first disabling the router, you will have DHCP conflicts.

  • Report on installing Newer eSATA extender cable

Well I took the time to install the Newer eSATA extender cable and am zeroing the hard drive now in anticipation of Leopard arriving next week. It turns out that there is a glitch in the installation of the Newer extender and some Mac Pros. Mine was one of the problematic ones.
In order to install the cable you have to access the mother board behind the front fan unit. Basically that means taking out RAM boards, HDs. and a few screws. It should be pretty easy but the problem comes in from an assembly line error. On some Mac Pros two screws (located in the front edge of the RAM card bay) with tiny phillips heads which are screwed into extenders have been installed with Locktite rather than the extenders being installed with Locktite. That means that you almost inevitably strip those screw heads and the extenders spin. I had to use a tiny knife bladed file to hand cut a slot in each of the screws to get them out and then retighten the extenders with small nosed hemostats.
If the job went with no problems it is entirely do-able for someone reasonably handy (with the proper tools) and the Newer directions pamphlet is very well done. However, if you run into the Locktite problem the complexity of the job increases considerably. Overall, I think I'd suggest people without some electronic repair/modification experience use FireWire 800 for their Leopard Time Machine interface and avoid the potential difficulties I ran into.

I would have to agree that getting both of the SATA cables on the motherboard is a pain if the screws have the Locktite issue as mine does. However, I found running a stock 24" internal SATA cable with a right angle on one end to one of the SATA motherboard connectors and using an Addonics AASA2SAP15C on the other end of the SATA cable outside the Mac Pro lets me easily connect an eSATA enclosure to the Mac Pro using the motherboard connector.
    I use this cable converter:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00094OWEC/arizomacinusergr
and this enclosure ICY DOCK MB559US-1S External 3.5" eSATA/USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000KMD1JA/arizomacinusergr
This provides a nice, quick mounting case that I can boot off of if needed using the internal SATA motherboard port. It provides much nicer performance than FW800 and is easy to setup.
    Have fun!

  • Is there any esata extender cable adapter for Mac Pro 3.1?

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 with two Quad-Core Intel Xeon @3GHz, and G-DRIVE0G00204 2TB External Hard Drive.
I was told the speed of sSATA cable is 3 times faster compared to firewire 800, but the Mac Pro doesnt provide eSATA port. Is there any solution to make connection with Mac Pro via sSATA cables?
    Thanks.

You do this with a pci slot.  Either the following,
Newer Technology eSATA Extender Cable Adapter
or a eSATA pci card.  For example,
Sonnet Technology Tempo SATA E2P Serial ATA Host Adapter Card

  • Antenna`s cable for Aironet 1500

I will like to put the 802.11 b/g antenna (for clients) in a separate way from the Aironet. I know that the antenna AIR-ANT2455V-N has "N" type connectors. Is there a antenna`s cable for this application? is it possible to do that? My scenario is a Aironet 1500 over the roof of the buildings but the roof is a reflective material... that is the reason to I will like to place the antenna under the roof.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
You can use any of the 50 Ohm impedance RF coaxial cables. RG-58, RG-8 or Heliax cables.
However, the losses because of the cable attenuation are critical. Since the antenna you have selected has only 5 dBi, this is even more important.
To avoid high loses, one must use fatter and higher grade coaxial cable. The RG-58 and it's low loss derivates (LMR195) are used for pigtails. For more than few foots the RG-8 and it's derivates (LMR400) is the next option. For over 50-100 foot's there is a need for very thick heliax cables.
There are special "N" connectors for those types of 50 Ohm RF coaxial cables. Since the connectors produce attenuation too, they should be of high quality and professionally installed.
However: those distances are appropiate for high gain antennas. An 5 dBi antenna shouldn't have a large cable.
Another way to solve the attenuation problem, is by using an amplifier. The amplifier is connected to the antena, so the cable extension stops being a factor and can be raisonably large (at least 150 foot for high grade RG-8 cable).
    Best Regards,
    Igor Sotelo.

  • HT3728 every time my iMac sleeps or restarts it loses the connection to airport express and i must reset and connect with router via ethernet cable.

Every time my imac sleeps or restarts it loses the wireless connection with my airport express (used for streaming music). I then have to disconnect the airport express from my stereo, bring it to my router, connect it to my router with ethernet cable and reset the wireless connection. Even with my airport express  in the same room as my router Airport Utility cannot find it until i plug in an ethernet cable, so i do not think this is an issue with my wireless network. Router is a newer netgear.
