Router blocks random IP or Domain Addresses

This appears to be a rather unusual problem and has only been noticed in the past month. Suddenly without any apparent warning, certain web sites are no longer accessible. This was first noticed when I was unable to access my pop3 email from the www.doteasy.com domain. I also was unable to access my web page located on that domain. On top of that I even was unable to access other web sites located on the same domain.
After 3 days of not being able to access the domain, I shut down my modem (a Speedstream 5100) and my Linksys WRT54G router, and my Dell Dimension 3000 computer. When everything came back up I was once again able to access my web domain and homepage.
A week later it happened again. This time I just pulled the plug on the router for 10-15 seconds and plugged it back in. Once again I was in business. It happened again today, 2/8/2008 and this time it was a Ventrilo VOIP site. Once again I pulled the plug for 10 seconds and again everything was fine.
This has me scratching my head. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on here? No changes have been made to the router setup in months.

Try updating firmware of router. Do a reset after update and it may get fixed.

  • WRT55AG - Router sees internet PCs blocked randomly

Hello all...if I had hair I'd be tearing it out...
I have a WRT55ag V2 that used to work just fine, however something must have changed, because now it refuses to let my computers (a mixture of wired and wireless) connect to the internet at some seemingly random interval. I can fix it by resetting the router and I am good to go until the next time. However, several times a day I lose connection. Any help would be appreciated as I have tried all the suggestions in the knowledge base, including the one about MAC address cloning (I already had MAC cloning enabled but it was useful to use the procedure outlined the the article 1403 just to make sure).
Here's some of my settings and the symptoms:
    * 4 PCs running XP (3 wired, 1 wireless A/G), 1 PC running linux - wireless G)
    * Comcast cable - 8mb/768k teleworker account (up to three direct connections are allowed)
    * Router connects via a linksys switch to cable modem (the switch also has a voip adapter which never misses a beat)
    * When the computers can't connect to the internet they can still connect to each other (Windows file sharing, ping, http, etc) and also the router.
*When the router blocks traffic I cannot connect to any WAN site from the PCs, either by using IP addresses or canonical names. I can get as far as the router with a "ping" but not the cable-modem which is the next hop.
    * I can log onto the router web pages and go to the "Diagnostics" page. From there I can ping/traceroute any host, including local intranet and WAN-side sites so it seems that the router is still connecting to the internet but is not allowing LAN traffic to pass through (I tried using Telnet FTP, SSH and DNS but they are also blocked).
    * I thought it might be DNS problems but each local host can seem to resolve any name/IP address so the router must be forwarding those packets. Using IP addresses only doesn't allow connections anyway.
    * The VOIP phone that is connected to the internet works just fine 24/7 so I have ruled out the switch and cable modem.
    * My router is running firmware 1.67.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    Bill

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly I have already tried these options as well. I changed the MTU on the router and also one of the PCs and that didnt improve the situaton. I also did a factory reset on the router and then reflashed the firmware again.

  • Mac OS X Leopard hates my domain address (apparently)

I've had my Mac since December and up until a few weeks ago it had no problem going to any of the websites I own. Problem now is that it refuses to go to them if I use my actual domain address. The sites are blogs that I bought domain names for, but the bookmarks I have had all along no longer work and neither does typing in the actual domain address, BUT if I type in the much longer blogspot-style address my Mac will then connect. My domain server says it's a problem with my ISP, but that doesn't make sense since I can connect with my Windows PC without issue. Why won't my Mac go to my domain names anymore???

    Er, that should look like:

It seems that the short-form is the address of a service that provides an HTTP redirect for you, so it will only work when using HTTP, and not if you have a plugin (like an Ad blocker or something) that will prevent the redirect. There's no native feature in OS X that would prevent the redirect -- unless it timed out at your ISP and your ISP gave you a bogus page rather than failed the lookup. If that's the case, you probably need to clear your browser cache.

  • Router cannot get a WAN IP address form ISP (e4200 v2)

    Hello,
I just bought the Cisco e4200 v2 router, I did all the installations as the Cisco connect software instructed me and everything went fine.
After the installation I configured the router on  the WAN settings as (Automatic Configuration - DHCP), like my old router (Linksys WRT54GL) and I saw that my router doesn't get the WAN address from cable modem from my ISP(it stays on 0.0.0.0), it doesn't renew the IP address.
So please how can I fix this issue? This is a bug in the e4200 v2 firmware?

EVERY time you change what is connected to a cable modem you MUST power cycle the modem.  If it's a telephony modem it has an internal battery so you have to push the reset button, usually with a paper clip, to reset it.
Cable modems memorize the MAC address of the first connection and block all subsequent MAC addresses.

I have an Airport Extreme as my router and am using time capsule to extend the network in my new house. My ISP is only providing me 4-5 ip addresses and wants me to set up my router to issue out new ip addresses for all my devices. How do I fix this?Help.
They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

  • 10G Reports Hyperlink has strange characters after domain address

    To all,
I have a 10G Report that uses a BeforeParamForm trigger to build a parameter called "START_URL".
When the BeforeParamForm trigger ends the parameter START_URL contains the value:
    http://SEPAP33:80/reports/rwservlet?omst1
I am using this parameter so that I don't have to hard-code the domain address on the Hyperlink line of the field property.
On the Paper Layout I have a Field called 'Premise' that has the Hyperlink property filled in as:
    :start_url+report=e:/apps/oms/premise_outage_detail.rdf+desformat=pdf+paramform=no+p_sdate=&sdate+p_edate=&edate+p_premise=&premise_id
When the report executes it should set the Hyperlink line to look like this: http://SEPAP33:80/reports/rwservlet/?omst1
    report=e:/apps/oms/premise_outage_detail.rdfdesformat=pdf+paramform=no+p_sdate=01-jan-07+p_edate=01-aug-2007+p_premise=97
Unfortunately when the report runs the first section looks like this:
    http://SEPAP33:80/reports/rwservlet/getfile/HWnZXZIgVBOPS/RLkg==/+report=...(the rest is correct)
Does anybody know what is causing this Hyperlink to be built improperly with "getfile/HWnZXZIgVBOPS/RLkg==" in there? I have used SRW.MESSAGE to output the :Start_URL and it is correct.
I have also tried using SRW.set_hyperlink in the format trigger. The wrong URL value also comes up this way.
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Hello,
    The URL :
    http://SEPAP33:80/reports/rwservlet/getfile/HWnZXZIgVBOPS/RLkg==/
is a typical URL added by the Reports servlet in the BASE HREF tag.

  • WRT54G Wireless Router Will Not Assign a Network Address

A Linksys WRT54G router will not assign a network address when I access the router using a Linksys WPC600N wireless card. I have the same problem accessing the router with a TRENDnet TEW-621PC wireless adapter. Both wireless adapters are assigned network addresses when I use other wireless routers. Also, I have no problems being assigned a network address when I access the WRT54G router in question using an old 2WIRE 802.11b wireless card.
I have tried "Repairing" the connection, I have used ipconfig to "release" and "renew" the connection. However, each attempt fails to have a DHCP address assigned.
I am a visitor at the work location with the connection problem, the router works for others without any issues.
    Thanks

Well in such case .... you can try few settings on the wireless adapter ....
If you are using WLAN monitor .....
Click start >> All programs >> Linksys wireless monitor >> Click on "Profile" >> Delete all profiles >> Click "New" >> Type in the wireless network name >> Click next >> Configure the rest of the wireless settings same as in the router ...
At last point it shows .... all the configuration settings ...reconfirm that  >> Click on connect ot a network & reboot the computer ...
After reboot see if it shows connected or not....
You can also use Static Ip in the configuration ....

  • Route call based on source IP address

    Hello Guys,
Is there a way to route calls based on source IP address?
I want to redirect calls to specific queues based on the ip of the phone who's starting it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Filipe Leite

    Hi Filipe
I'm assuming here that you are using CallManager rather than CME?
One option might be to use the 'device mobility' feature to assign a specific CSS to devices based on their IP subnet. That CSS could have the appropriate partitions to route to a seperate trigger that directs calls to a separate CSQ.
Of course, whether you can do this depends on whether it would be appropriate to override the device CSS in this way.

  • Mac OS X Leopard STILL hates my domain address (apparently)

    Hi again,
I was getting some help from a member when they asked me about "dig" in "terminal" I figured out what they meant and posted but haven't heard anything. With as many posts that come through I imagine it's hard to keep up but I have the info if anyone can help me figure out why my Mac won't go to domain addresses that I own.
    Thanks

It's hard to say what browser setting is causing your problem, though I'd guess it's a cookie.
If you're using Safari, first try Safari -> Reset Safari. A window of stuff to reset will pop up. Make sure everything is checked, and click Reset. This will clear just about everything Safari knows about you, except your bookmarks. If that doesn't fix it, then we'll probably need to find and delete some Safari preference files.
If you're using a different browser, see if it has a similar "reset everything" option.

  • Blocking a certain e-mail address?

Hi, this probably has been asked before ... but how do I block a certain e-mail address that keeps sending spam (always using the same address) on my mail server?
Preventing these mails to enter the mail queue would be optimal ... they seem to slow down the server enormously.

  • Router Blocking a Website

So a few days ago my router seems to have blocked me from visiting a website. www.tfaw.com. I have tried everything calling linksys completly reseting my router updating firmware. Making sure everything is set correctly. Changing the MTU to 1400 and lower. Still nothing. Called my service provider who walked through fixes in internet options making sure it wasnt something blocking the site. It looks like this issue is fairly uncommon but I have seen people having the same issues as in this forum posts.
    http://www.webmasterworld.com/webmaster/3781120.htm
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/router-blocking-websites/td-p/293627
However nobody seems to be able to offer any advice that actually fixes the problem. I feel like im going round and round not finding an actual reason why im having access blocked from the site.
I tried connecting through a proxy and it let me access the website from this computer. I know it has to have something to do with my network/router, I can access the site on both of my phones and as soon as I turn on my wireless on the phones it does not allow me access to the website.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?? As I can tell nobody has actually been able to tell anyone why or how to fix this issue
    Please Help!

  • Address book randomly puts in email addresses

When I put in a new address card, often address book will add three more work addresses, randomly filling them with addresses from my library. This happens without my knowledge until I open the card and discover these random addresses.
I even went through all my contacts and got rid of the random inserts, but they are coming back.
    Any ideas?

your address book database may be corrupted. quit address book and delete the file /users/username/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then start address book and see if the problem persists. another possible cause is corrupt sync data if you sync your address book with anything. do you? mobileme perhaps?

  • WLC - How to block a single client MAC address?

    Hi Sir,
On a WLC (software version 4.1.185.0), how to block a single client MAC address?
I thought of using the SECURITY -> Disabled Clients. Is it right?
There are currently 250 users connected to the WLC. MAC Filtering is not a scalable solution because as I understand it, we have to specify all the legitimate MAC addresses in the local database.
    Thank you.
    B.Rgds,
    Lim TS

    Hi Lim,
    As you have discovered, the Mac filtering on the WLC is an Allow (based on Mac address) rather than what you need which is a Deny (based on Mac address). I have not tried this feature but I think you are on the right track in using the Exclusion List (Blacklist) feature. Have a look;
Use SECURITY > AAA > Disabled Client then click New or MONITOR > Clients then click Disable to navigate to this page.
This page allows you to manually Exclusion List (blacklist) a client by MAC address.
Add the MAC Address and an optional Client Description for the client to be disabled.
Note When you enter a client MAC address to be disabled, the Operating System checks that the MAC address is not one of the known Local Net clients ( Local Net Users), Authorized clients ( MAC Filtering), or Local Management users ( Local Management Users) MAC addresses. If the entered MAC address is on one of these three lists, the Operating System does not allow the MAC address to be manually disabled.
Hope this helps! Let us know.

Before the error occurs can you output the result of:

  • Local router blocking incoming remote assistance request

I have a user who recently moved. they received new equipment from their ISP. I use to be able to make remote assistance connections to their computer using a popular system center configuration manager remote tool. Now i can't get past the handshake when i try to connect. If he has split tunneling enabled would the new router block incoming traffic? I know by default most of the router's firewall will block all incoming traffic (if enabled). does this apply to VPN traffic?

Hi, if the VPN terminates on an IOS router, then the split tunneling does not "block" anything. It simply decides which traffic is sent through the tunnel and which traffic is sent in clear text (as in Internet traffic).
If the router has ACLs on the outside interface, that could be blocking the traffic (even VPN traffic).
Make sure the desired traffic is part of the split tunneling rule and that if there's an ACL, it allows the traffic to pass.
