Router cannot get a WAN IP address form ISP (e4200 v2)

Hello,
I just bought the Cisco e4200 v2 router, I did all the installations as the Cisco connect software instructed me and everything went fine.
After the installation I configured the router on  the WAN settings as (Automatic Configuration - DHCP), like my old router (Linksys WRT54GL) and I saw that my router doesn't get the WAN address from cable modem from my ISP(it stays on 0.0.0.0), it doesn't renew the IP address.
So please how can I fix this issue? This is a bug in the e4200 v2 firmware?

EVERY time you change what is connected to a cable modem you MUST power cycle the modem.  If it's a telephony modem it has an internal battery so you have to push the reset button, usually with a paper clip, to reset it.
Cable modems memorize the MAC address of the first connection and block all subsequent MAC addresses.

cadet alain, you hit the nail on the head.    The router was doing Iner-VLAN routing, but the PCs were blocking the pings because they came from another subnet.  Thank you for your help in resolving this.
I have a follow-up question if I may - I need to add a default route but can't seem to find a way to do that.  Tried adding a static route with IP=0.0.0.0 Mask=0.0.0.0 but it will not allow it.  My current routing table looks like this:
Destination   Gateway     Genmask           Metric  Ref   Use  Interface  Type    Flags
    127.0.0.1     127.0.0.1   255.255.255.255   1       0     0    lo         Static  UP,Gateway,Host

    127.0.0.0     0.0.0.0     255.0.0.0         0       0     0    lo         Dynamic UP
It routes all packets to VLAN2 and VLAN3 correctly; but if a packet arrives to any other network address, I would like to get it to forward to another gateway on VLAN2 (at address 192.168.2.254).  Can't seem to find a way to add a default route.

  • Airport extreme base station cannot get a workable IP address

I see this is not a new issue, but I haven't been able to find a solution from any of the discussion or FAQ's that works. My internet provider is Comcast. All of a sudden my airport base station could not secure a workable IP address. Resetting, powering off, etc., did not fix the problem. I thought it might be with my base station, the saucer type, so I bought a new one. Same problem. If I bypass the router and plug directly into the computer there is no problem the computer connecting directly from the modem works fine. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thank you for your help.

I am having a similar problem. I just purchased a Time Capsule with airport/router built-in. I setup it up 2 days ago and it was a breeze. My iMac, Macbook Pro, and 2 iPhones connect to it wirelessly via DHCP with no problems. Suddenly this morning my Macbook Pro and 1 iPhone cannot get an IP address, other than the dreaded 'Self-assigned' 169... address. I can get an IP with my Macbook Pro connected via Ethernet with no issues. I did not change ANY settings. How is this possible? Also, I have a guest network setup on the second band and all of my devices can connect to that with no trouble, even the said Macbook Pro and iPhone. iMac has been connecting all along to everything. I've tried the following on the Macbook:
    - Removed Airport, rebooted, re-added Airport, rebooted
    - Forced a manual IP address (yes outside the range of DHCP reserved addresses)
    - Removed power / rebooted Time Capsule
Nothing works. I know my wireless card is fine because I can get an IP from the guest network. What gives?

  • I cannot get my contacts to sync form my phone to my compute

I cannot get my contacts to sync from my phone to my computer

I just discovered that if any of the email accounts in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" in settings has "Notes" turned on, it will not sync to Outlook on your computer. My notes were always syncing to my yahoo account instead of Outlook on my PC until I turned off "Notes". Voila!!!! I had to forward the notes from yahoo to my Outlook email, then forward and edit them to the Notes folder in Outlook. (If they have whitespace as the first character, they will not have a 'title' in the Notes folder of Outlook.
I've been fighting this for the last two years, until I turned off the "Notes" setting in my iphone.
Also make sure that your notes syncing option to Outlook is enabled within itunes.

  • Cannot get to the Mac address!

    Hi everyone,
We used to be able to connect our Wii to our wireless connection with a few clicks, now after we haven't had the Wii plugged in for about a year it can't seem to connect anymore, all though nothing changed on my airport side, the WEP password is the same, I tried retyping it a few times and that did nothing.....anyways, we went to the Nintendo support site and they also recommend the following:
    1. If your WEP or WPA key is correct, then the problem might be related to MAC address filtering:
    1. From the router settings, locate the "MAC address filter" settings (also known as "access control", "access list", or "network filter" depending on your router model).
    2. If the Mac address filter is set to "enabled", then you must add the Wii's MAC address to the "allowed" list. You can locate the Wii's MAC address from the "console information" page (located under "Internet" in the Wii Settings).
    3. If the Mac address filter was disabled, then continue troubleshooting.
now, I am not able to access my airport utility, I put in the WEP password its asking for and it keeps coming back for it............so , I cannot access that panel, but I can't find a place to add a Mac address in the network preferences for the airport!???
    Help?
    Thank you,
    Lucia

Ok, here's the basic step-by-step to get your AX up-and-running to get Internet access from a cable modem ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
o Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    Setup the AX
Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Create a closed network (unchecked)
    o Wireless Security: Not enabled
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure: Using DHCP
    o WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (checked)
o Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    Change Wireless Security
o Wireless Security: WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal
o Encryption Type: WPA and WPA2
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
    o Enable Ethernet Port (checked)
    o Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
    o Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
o Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)

What more is there to say? I was given an address to use in a project I am working on. It does NOT include www in the address. Every time I try to get to the site, I enter the address and firefox inserts www into the address and if I click on it, I am informed that firefox can't located the site try again, maybe I misspellled it, etc. Since I copied it directly from the e-mail I was sent AND I have gone to that site using the link provided in the e-mail I KNOW I can get there and it would seem that the site exists.

Reading PDF files is not Firefox, you can read file external to the browser or with a plugin.
The Download Window closes instantly the download finishes or may not even open at all bring it back with Ctrl+J
You are using Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Reader
make sure it is compatible with Firefox 5 if it is running within Firefox, check their site
or install Adobe Reader unfortunately it comes with Adobe Air
whatever that it, and being adobe you have to watch out for
crapware also being install, McAfee Security Scan, Google Chrome, Adobe Air

  • Cannot get a valid IP address for Airport

I bought a fitness tracker which uses a USB device to wirelessly upload data.
Since plugging it in and installing their software on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer obtain a valid IP address on either a broadcast wireless SSID or a non-broadcase secure (WPA2 Enterprise) wireless network.
I deleted the fitness tracker device from the network configurations, deleted the Airport from Network and added it back and removed the SystemConfiguration folder from Library/Preferences, rebooted and still have the same problem.
Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can get the Airport back to normal?
I did contact tech support at the fitness device company on Friday, but no response yet.
I really need to be able to use the wireless when mobile.

It finally seems to be working.

  • RVS4000 won't get WAN DHCP address

I just tried replacing a cheap domestic router/switch with an RVS4000 V2 on our work network.  This has a WAN connection to a cable modem for internet access via a dynamic IP address.
When I first connected the RVS4000 it got a WAN ip address via DHCP of 192.168.100.11.  This is the type of IP address we get when there is an upstream problem with our ISPs cable network, and sure enough we had no internet access.  The RVS4000 was set to use DHCP on the WAN interface.  So I logged a support call with our ISP but they said there were no problems at their end.
I then swapped the RVS4000 out for the original router.  This worked fine and got a WAN DHCP address of 77.xxx.yyy.zzz as it should.  Swapped back to the RVS4000 and back to the same problem of getting a 192.168... address.
So, I downloaded the latest firmware from Cisco, which was V2.0.3.2 and flashed the RVS4000.
I then tried again connecting the RVS4000 to the cable modem but this time it would not get any WAN DHCP address at all.  On the Status/Gateway page of the web interface it said that the WAN interface was down.  However, on the front panel there was a yellow light indicating a live connection on the internet port.
Any suggestions?  I am assuming there must be a fault, but thought I would check for advice before sending it back.

    Hi Nick,
Connect your computer directly to the modem, obtain the right IP address. Then put the RVS4000 back to the modem connection. Go to the set up, MAC ADDRESS CLONE, Enable this feature then use the option "clone my pc mac".
Then wait 1-2 minutes and refresh the WAN.
Basically this feature puts your computer's MAC on the router WAN interface. You can also use the previous router's WAN MAC if you know it and want to manually type it in.

  • Router connected to cable modem by Ethernet port cannot get IP address from DHCP.

I have an ethernet cable on Fa0/0 connecting my 1841 router to my cable modem. The issue is that the router cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP when I have the "ACL-OUTSIDE-IN" ACL applied inbound on the Fa0/0 interface. I tried to allow all BOOTP and BOOTPS traffic in my ACL, but still no luck. I really don't want to run the router without a simple ACL firewall and connect it to the internet. When I take off the ACL off of Fa0/0, the router is able to get an IP address via DHCP.

You have basically verified that the issue is NOT with your MBP, but with this particular Wi-Fi network. Even though it may be unsecured, the provider may have elected to configure it for MAC filtering. In this case I am referring to the MAC (Media Access Control) address and not your Mac laptop itself. If this has been enabled, your Mac would only be able to connect if the Mac's MAC address was added to that filter.

  • Networking issue with new Macbook - cannot get IP address from DHCP router

Hello all, I've seen this problem posted a few times and been having the same problem with my new aluminum MacBook. Here's the story:
When connecting to my network at home, I get the message "Airport has a self-assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet." I've been able to connect a few times, but anytime it sleeps or I shut down I have the same problem. When I'm out and about, it has no problem connecting to other networks.
On the network in which I cannot connect, there are 2 other macs and two PCs that do NOT have any problem connecting. Macs are all running 10.5.5.
Router in a 2Wire and uses DHCP. ISP is AT&T.
I've tried rebooting the router, manually assigned an IP address, restarting, updating software. Nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is kinda making me crazy.

    I've also tried:
    1) Creating a new location in network prefs.
    2) Zapping PRAM
    3) rebooting router many time.
    4) putting a $ in front of the hex password
    5) deleting all of the plists that I've seen recommended.
    6) Starting in safe mode
    7) Renewing IP
    8) Shutting off firewall

  • Trying to set up Directv GenieGO using Airport Extreme.  Getting error message: DHCP range entered conflicts with the WAN IP Address of your base station.  How do I resolve the conflict.

Trying to configure an Airport Extreme manually.  After I enter the IP Address of the GenieGo along with the rest of information required I am getting the following error message when I click update:
DHCP range entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your base station.
How do I resolve the conflict?

You cannot use the same range on LAN and WAN if you are routing.. it must be different.. and you should not be routing at all.
The AE should be in bridge mode. NO DHCP settings at all.
