Router changed IP address

My WRT54G changed its address on its own after two weeks.  I was on vacation and suddenly unable to access VIA the Internet.  When I returned I found the router address changed.  What do I do to keep the address static?

Might be possible that due to Power surge the router is resetted & the Ip goes to Invalid range ....
So you need to reconfigure the router ....

  • SG300 inter-VLAN routing and MAC address changes in incoming packets

    Hello
    I have SG300-20 working in Layer3 mode
    VLAN1 is not used
    Internet gateway is in VLAN211
    Clients are in other VLANs
Switch is default gateway for clients and itself has internet gateway as default route.
MAC address of switch is XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:63
When client sends trafic to Internet destination MAC address in outgoing packets is XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:63
But in incoming packets source MAC address is XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:69
Why does it change? And how can I setup switch to use only XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:63 MAC address?

    Hi Robert,
I'd like to pick up this old thread because we have a huge problem with the behavior of the SG300 router/switch regarding the "spoofed" MAC source addresses. We have connected this switch to another router which has some special routing capabilities. It routes certain IP packets directly to MAC addresses which it learned from snooping on special traffic.
When connected to a SG300 router with an Ethernet base address of XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:48 we receive packets with Ethernet source addresses like e. g. XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:49 or XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:4D (depending on which hardware port they came from). Our special router "learns" these MAC addresses and tries to send associated outgoing packets directly to these addresses using e. g. XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:49 as the MAC destination address.
Our problem is that the SG300 does not forward the packet if the MAC destination address is not equal to the switch's Ethernet base address (XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:48 in our case). This renders the SG300 series useless for our systems.
Is there new firmware available which fixes this problem for us? We don't care which MAC source address the SG300 uses in incoming packets we receive, but we expect that the SG300 handles packets correctly for outgoing packets we send with this MAC address as the destination address.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • CHANGING IP ADDRESS OF A LAPTOP AFTER CHANGING IP ADDRESS OF WIRELESS ROUTER CONNECTED TO DSL MODEM

DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE TO CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS OF THE LAPTOP CONNECTED WIRELESS AFTER CHANGING THE WIRELESS  ROUTER'S IP ADDRESS TO 192.168,2,1 BECAUSE DSL MODEM USES 192.168.1.1, THE WIRELESS ROUTER IS IN A DIFFERENT SUBNET FROM THE DSL MODEM

Your laptop will find the correct IP address automatically.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • Can't change MAC address of my wireless card on Windows XP

    Dear Forum Members,
I have recently bought a notebook, Lenovo IdeaPad G550L (I haven't found section for the G series here on the forum) and would like to use its WiFi adapter (BCM4310 according to Everest) with explicitly changed MAC address. I installed the recommended driver, available from Lenovo's website, version 5.10.38.14. I tried the common way to change the MAC address, went to Control Panel -> Network Interfaces -> Broadcom Wireless Network Adapter -> Configure... -> Advanced -> Locally administered MAC address, and changed it to a different address (without ":" or any separator characters). Unfortunately this common solution won't work at all. Although, no error messages are produced when changing it (so it seems successful) my wireless router shows me the original MAC address of my integrated wifi card. Tried to restart my computer, my router, everything.
    * Tried different drivers, downloaded a driver from HP which had a separate wireless configurator, Broadcom Wireless Utility. It worked like the driver from Lenovo (except this one hasn't got the utility), but I was still unable to change my MAC address.
    * Tried a different driver from SoftPedia, version 5.10.79.14 (this is newer than Lenovo's), it didn't work either.
    * Tried Nathan True's MACShift utility. It seemed to change the MAC address, but my router showed the original, so it didn't.
    * Tried to look for official Broadcom drivers on www.broadcom.com but found nothing for BCM4310.
    * Finally, I booted my alternative OS, the latest Ubuntu Linux, and used the kernel driver b43 for my wireless adapter. I tried to change my MAC address using the command ifconfig wlan0 hw ether .... and connected to my network. It worked, my router showed the changed MAC so the hardware (or the firmware) is capable of doing this by the right driver/firmware.
I tried to address Broadcom with the issue, sent them a letter like this post they replied that they are not competent, they wrote the following (I guess this was an automatically generated message because it got back in 10 seconds ) from [email protected]:
"As the chipset supplier, Broadcom provides driver support to our customers - the manufacturers of wireless devices - that ultimately provide products to end customers, such as wireless LAN vendors, cable modem vendors, and notebook providers. It is up to these manufacturers to provide product-specific drivers and software support to their end customers. Please contact the manufacturer of your wireless device for their current drivers"
Then I addressed Lenovo with the problem, their answer:
    "Dear ******,
Thank you for contacting Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and ThinkCentre products. As I understand, you have purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad G550L and would like to use its WiFi adapter (BCM4310 according to Everest) with explicitly change MAC address.and you would like to know is there an official driver for Windows XP that allows you this basic feature like b43 in Linux. We apologize,Please do speak with our Idea pad technical Team at 877-453-6686 Option 1-2-1-2 for further assistance.
If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 866-42-THINK (84465) option number 2. We will be happy to assist at that time.
Once again, thank you for contacting Lenovo.
    Sincerely,
    Lenovo Websales/CustServe"
So this means I should call them and spend extra money for phone bill of international calls because of their fault of providing a basic feature that is to be expected from every single wireless card in the market. Should I believe that a guide over the phone is more efficient than a step-by-step solution or a link to an alternative driver? I'm getting kind of disappointed. At least they have understood (or copy-pasted) my problem, dutch comfort though.
Any ideas? Anyone experienced the same problem and solved it? Is there an official (or even unofficial) driver for this device for Windows XP that allows me this basic feature (like b43 in Linux)?
    Thanks in advance,
    str4ngS

Yes, I have posted this thread to different forums after I realized that Lenovo "customer care" is not likely to help me out and even wirelessforums.org members couldn't come up with any ideas for days, that's why. I have already written that helper applications like SMAC (or etherchange or macshift) don't work, because they do the same thing in the system as I change it in the driver panel, so they use the same method which simply does not work.
Locked? Definitely not. If yes, why can I change the MAC of my adapter under Ubuntu Linux using b43 open-source driver if it's really locked? Or you mean it's locked from software, because Lenovo or Broadcom didn't want their users to change their MACs or they just forgot to release a fully-functional driver? Well, then I would like to have a driver in which it's not locked, because this is a basic feature of my adapter of which the hardware is capable.
I have already contacted Broadcom, see their (automatically-generated) answer in my initial post, but I will try to do that again with more foresight.

  • Changing MAC Address

Recently i have been trying to change my Router's MAC Address. I have a WRT54g v.3. I have done it before where i had unplugged the internet cable going from the wall to the modem. I saw the change on the 192.168.1.1 status page. And i noticed with a proxy and the new changed MAC address i was able to get into gaming servers i hadn't been able to before because my IP was banned.
Now when i try to change my MAC address, it doesn't seem to change on the router stautus page like it did once before. I'm sure that it's possible to concel my identity of my old IP and get a new IP (through a proxy), many people do this for security reasons so i'm hoping linksys products can offer some kind of security by doing this.
btw, sorry about the name, if it's possible can it be changed to Joe. Thanks guys.

Your MAC is "stuck" to that router, you need to spoof it. Google it.

  • How to get router's IP Address programmatically?

While on my computer, behind the router Verizon router, I need to know my the router's IP address, so I can ssh into my box from remote hosts.
When I subscribed to cable, and had a Linksys router as my main gateway at 192.168.1.1, I could log into it programmatically (using Perl LWP) and parse out the WAN IP address.
But with the ridiculous Verizon setup, their login screen is jam-packed with silly Javascript that changes the number of characters on the screen as you type, etc (all of which have been covered in these forums), and I cannot figure out what the heck it is doing.  Logging into the router manually works fine.  But I need to be able to do so programmatically.
(Or is there some other way to obtain my router's WAN IP address from my local system?)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Mike
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Couldn't you just setup a dynamic dns name from dyndns.org (or one of the other providers) and set that up in the router's dynamic dns setup.  That way you could always use a FQDN instead of an ip address.  The router will also keey dyndns.org updated with you curring WAN ipaddress.
If you want to do something progamatically you could access a website like http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and parse its response.

  • Is it OK to change ip address

I had a lot of trouble getting my router set up.  Then it worked just fine.  The next day my desktop couldn't get to the internet, but the wireless laptop could.  Called Linksys and was on the phone for over an hour.  They changed the ip address.  Worked fine for a few hours, then same thing happened.  Called Linksys, got another tech in India.  She changed ip address again (among other things).  It is now working again.  I had talked with BellSouth earlier, and they said ip address must always be 192.168.1.1.  Will it go down again?

well..if you have bellsouth as your ISP , check what ip address do you get when the computer is directly connect to the modem....if you something like 192.168.1.x. ,,, then the ip address on the router will be 192.168.2.1....however the default ip address on the router is always 192.168.1.1....
now if you are getting connection drops with this kind of the configuration , ask bellsouth to "bridge" the modem......

  • How to change mac address on time capsule

    Hi there,
How to change mac address on time capsule?

There are routers that allow you to create/clone a mac address to whatever you like. Since many companies use the mac address to 'register' a unit connected to it's system, you usually just have to let them know you've changed your router and they will reset your system to accept connections from the new device.

i put on my screensaver and was getting ready for bed, when the processor fans started firing up again. the only app i had open was iChat, and it wasn't using anything substantial in terms of CPU. activity monitor showed the same.
until i opened up console and found this message over and over again:
29/10/2007 01:08:04 mDNSResponder[23] handleLNTGetExternalAddressResponse: Router returned bad address
    29/10/2007 01:08:04 mDNSResponder[23] Error getting external address 3
see here for a screencap. google/apple discussions provided little to no insight.
lather, rinse, repeat. this happens every 8 seconds or so. what's going on? i have an airport express bridged from a linksys router, and i've never had an issue with it before. resetting both didn't help, firmware's up to date.
any insight would be extremely helpful.
    10.5 build 9A581

Maybe its not your router, maybe its mDNSResponder itself..... It doesn't seem to me like a router would randomly begin to hand out bad network addresses unless your access was rejecting itself (ex. your saved password was wrong because you changed the password on another machine and didn't replace the old one in the keychain), or if you were getting DDoSed (Denial of Service attack, which executes malignant code on your system in order to crash/shut it down).
UPnP??? Thats required for certain network access...... Not sure what would be affected off the top of my head though, I guess... you'll just have to wait and see.
Are you absolutely sure your not getting these errors anymore with UPnP disabled?

  • My router's IP address

    Hello,
recently i've changed my internet provider and i had to change some settings of my router. I tried to change the ip address of router so that i could access my provider's ftp, but i can't gain access to my router anymore. I try to enter 192.168.1.1, which doesn't work as well as one which i changed it to. Can I somehow look up my current router's IP address? Also, I think I've lost CD which was coming with router and I think it could be helpful for me, can I somehow have the same information that was on this CD?
    p.s. model is wrt54g
    Thank you.

hi Go start Go to all programs - then Accessories you will find Command Prompt you can do a ipconfig/all on Command Prompt??? or reset the router back to factory default settings by pressing reset button on the back panel of the router.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • AddressBook - Is there a way to change multiple addresses at the same time?

To be clear....I have 25 contacts at 1 company and that company moved.
Is there a way to link the cards together so that when I change the address on one card it automatically updates the other 24 cards?? Rather than having to change each contact individually, which is time consuming and annoying.
I have created a "Smart Group" for the company and all of the contacts place themselves in the group but it still won't sync the addresses.
Can someone tell me how to do this, if it's even possible? And if it's not, I really wish it was!!
    Thanks!

Open your Photos App > Camera Roll > At the top right corner you will see a rectangle with a right arrow, select that. Now you can select as many photos as you want and you can hit the red Delete button on the bottom right.
