Router constantly reconnects resulting in slow spe...

My router (I think it's a home hub 3) disconnects and reconnects frequently. After a reconnection my measured download speed drops from 4.5 mbs to 0.45 mbs. After some while it returns to the normal 4.5. This used to happen only rarely, but now it is happening several times a day so that I almost always am faced with the 0.45 download speed. I have no exptension lines in the house - only the master socket. I have opened this up and connected directly to the test socket with no improvement - still reconnects every few hours. It may be that this happens more frequently during windy/rainy weather, but I can't say for sure.
From the event log at most recent reconnect:

QoS Rate cap set to 0.4Mbs

What is my next step to deal with this problem. Thanks!
P.S. I have gone through all the suggestions on the broadband connections sticky post - no new light shed by anything there. It did seem strange that for the speed check I always got that my details could not be found but I was able to continue anyway.

OK. 1) I've connected a shiny new ADSL filtre, 2) The wind and snow have long since stopped, so weather should not be an issue, 3) Yesterday the BT Service check page said there had been a broadband issue in my area but it had been fixed at 13:05 and today the service check so no problems. Since then my router has reset 3 times and I have had 0.45mbs rather than 4.5 for over 48 hours straight, a new record for me. As there anything else I can check/do before asking for a BT engineer to check it out. And what is the process for making that request?

Go into preferences and under playback turn off background render. That helped speed things for me when working with large files.

  • Remote app - constantly reconnecting, can't get it to stop

    Any ideas?
I took the Remote app for a dry run, and everything worked fine - I really like it.
Next, I bought an Airport Express. I'm still working out problems, but that's another post in another area...
The problem now is, I can get iTunes playing through the AE to my stereo, but the Remote app is constantly reconnecting to iTunes. I can't get it to stop this procedure.
I hear music, and in the half second between reconnects, I can use the Remote app to advance to the next song. It reconnects all the time, though, every 5 seconds maybe, making browsing through playlists or albums impossible.
Also, I've tried the "Stay Connected" both on and off, but neither makes any difference.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    -Trevor

Well - after reading through the abundant suggestions... not...
I've ditched the ad hoc network treatment, and switched to a wireless access point for my airport express. So far (this afternoon only), I am no longer having this problem.
    I'll mark the question answered.

  • Since installing Firefox 29, my router constantly reboots on its own

Since installing Firefox 29, my router constantly reboots on its own. Is anyone else having this problem? And could it indeed be caused by Firefox?

Do you have any security software that may undo changes and restore a previous setup?

  • Verizon 4G LTE Router constantly disconnecting and other issues

My Verizon 4G LTE Router constantly disconnects. It requires a power off reset to come back on. Unfortunately, I dumped a perfectly reliable DSL connection for this. Worse yet, it is in a second home, and used to remotely monitor my temperature and security camera. I'm an not there every hour of the day to power cycle this totally unreliable device!
Also,I've had this device for a couple of months now, and have yet to be able to get my security cameras working. Now I can't even tell if my furnace is on - with winter coming if I can't monitor the temperature remotely, my pipes and well pump could be seriously damaged. What is going on with this thing????

Blazey, I appreciate you trying to help.
So, what you are saying is I have a few options:
         1) Do nothing and keep paying for a service and hardware combination I purchased directly from Verizon that doesn't work
         2) Spend $600 on top of what I have already spent to get limping along
         3) Spend $600 + buy another more reliable router that doesn't hang all the time
Where is option #4 - Verizon should fix their problem(s), or release me from my contractual obligation so I can go back to a rock steady DSL connection!
This is totally unacceptable.. I am not trying to use some 3rd party hardware on their network. I purchased this directly from Verizon so I DIDN'T have to worry about it working. They swore to me that this would be a plug in replacement for my DSL. Now after some more reading I discover it is not even close. It does not support port forwarding without shelling out another $500 for a static IP. I can assure you, I did not pay for this with ATT's DSL service. I feel duped and am pretty outraged by this.
What's worse is, I do not have "eye's" on my vacation home almost 300 miles away while this is happening. A little difficult to just "pop" over and reset it - which is what Verizon support suggested I do.

I started using BT as an ISP about 6 years ago, and have been very happy with the service. I always belive that keeping you phone line provider and your internet provider isteh best choice, then they can't blame each other for faults. I moved to a new house in mid February 2011, and signed a new contract with BT so the line charge wasn't so bad. It was installed on mid March, on the same day the internet was working at an incredible speed 17.8Mbps. This speed was constant (really, no issues or slow downs at all). Until mid September 2012 (17 months after the line was installed), when the speed dropped to a shocking 10.4Mbps. I contacted BT help via the online chat advisor. The advisor told me that the trouble was due to "an outage in the Birmingham exchange, full service should resume in a few days, and make sure to restart the router after a few days". *NOTE- I'm about 125miles from this exchange, but didn't think it was weird*.
I did this, but the speeds were the same. A few weeks later (hoping they would have been better, sadly not the case) *NOTE- there was a 24/7 constant connection for these 2 weeks*, I contacted BT help again via online chat advisor. This time they did admit there was a line fault and asked me to "restart the router, and run a speedtest". They said there would be tests done on my line and a response would be emailed to me in a few days. Several days later I received the response, claiming there was a fault, and it had been fixed.
I ran a speedtest again to find the same results, 10.4Mbps.
A few days ago I once again contacted BT help via online chat. The advisor did say there was a fault, and that I needed to upgrade my router (to the Home Hub 3), but couldn't be sent one for free as my contract had expired. They said I needed the new router (the Home Hub 3) to continue with my original speeds. After asking if there were any other routers that would work, they said yes, there were plenty of 3rd party hardware that would work perfectly. I asked if the Netgear DGN2000 would be fine, and got a yes reply. This was odd, as that was the router I was using ever since moving house, now 18months ago.
The advisor then claimed there were incorrect settings and I would need to contact the Tech team.
Sorry for explaining so much up to this point, but as my GamGam always said "do it properly so everyone knows the details". My questions are:
is it a coincidence that my speeds slow down towards the end of my contract?
is there a chance my speeds are being 'throttled'?
can my settings be wrong, if they're never changed?
if I leave my connection on 24/7 for an entire week, will the speeds return to normal?
I thank anyone in advanced for any assistance they can provide.

    Your questions.
is it a coincidence that my speeds slow down towards the end of my contract?
There will be a technical reason for it ...
is there a chance my speeds are being 'throttled'?
Not in a manual sense, although from an automatic sense, possibly, owing to technical issues.
can my settings be wrong, if they're never changed?
No, they appear to be correct, running ADSL /ppp over ATM  ADSL2
if I leave my connection on 24/7 for an entire week, will the speeds return to normal?
You need to leave your connection on 24/7 anyway, it's designed that way ... and yes it may well improve.
Leave it connected and post back in with linestats after that time.
And whilst your waiting .... answer IMJ's questions in post 2, which will help diagnose the issues I talked about.

  • Macbook Pro fan running constantly and CPU running slow

So, I have a Macbook Pro 2010 2.3 i7 that has started running really slow and the fan is running constantly.
In activity monitor it shows a kernel_task running constantly at around or above 200%.
I have tried all the regular tasks.  PRam reset, SMC reset and nothing seems to fix it.
I have also tried a system reinstall to no avail.
Maybe I'm on the wrong track, but from what I have read, the kernel_task might be trying to slow my CPU down because it thinks it is being overworked?
Maybe the fans are also being activated because it thinks the computer is too hot?
Anyway, if anyone has any idea as to what I can do to figure out what is going on, let me know.  Thanks

  • Router constantly disconnection

Hi I've looked into this on the forums and I've seen countless posts on the problem but not many solutions, kind of hoping someone here escalates this for me really
My router (Home Hub4) has been working fine for 2-3 months, for no reason however it has now started to disconnect constantly, usually every 30 mins or less.
I have been waiting on the phone for 2 hours now and no reply. pretty fed up to be honest.
I have called before, spoke to someone and was escalated to level 2, that night i got a somewhat stable connection. the following afternoon was much better and I thought it was fixed as I had 20 hours+ of solid connection, full speed.
but now the problem is back again, surely with it working so well at times means the problem isn't on my end? I've done quiet line tests, I've done reset, factory reset, unplugging it. I've tried changing channels for the wireless and I've tried static IP.
nothing has improved it more than when BT was running tests on my line, surely that's is where the fault lies?
Help really appreciated. both me and my girlfriend are heavy internet users and this is unbearable!
    Thanks

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Time Capsule with an Airport Extreme bridge resulted in slow LAN speeds

Wondering if other people are seeing this. I am unsure if this was a result of upgrading both my TC and AEx to 7.6, but my LAN speeds had suffered in this configuration.
    1.  Comcast cable modem connected to the WAN port on my TC.
    2.  Connected an ethernet cat6 cable from the TC to my Airport Extreme, which was configured as a bridge.
    3.  My desktop was connected to the Airport Extreme.
    4.  When doing file transfers within the LAN or general internet usuage, my network speeds were extremely low.
    5.  Disconnected the cat6 cable from the TC and plugged that directly to my desktop.
    6.  Network speed jumps up by a factor of 5. LAN file transfers and internet usuage has returned to what I had expected.
Is there a known issue where a bridged AEx conncted to another Airport "main" device will result in all machines connected via the AEx to have slow LAN speeds?
I didn't see this issue months ago. I did less than 2 months ago upgrade our machines to the 7.6 firmware, but after experiencing some hiccups on the network, reverted back to 7.5.2.  However, the slow LAN speeds haven't gone away when the two airport machines are connected to each other.
Any insight or advise is appreciated.

By now, millions of users have updated to 7.6 and I cannot recall seeing a post similar to yours on this forum.
As far as a "known issue", you would need to contact Apple regarding that.
Suggest that you have the AirPort checked out at an Apple store if you have one near you.

  • Printing multiple copies results in slow printing

    Hello!
We currently print a lot of color prints on our new printer (xerox WC 7345) but found out that it takes a lot longer than it use to take.
Example: We print a catalog with 56 pages 10x. (pdf 68mb) from Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.
The old printer would just send each page once, and the first set will print slow (the printer needs to calculate the images) but the other 9 set's will go fast.
The new printer send's each page separately and the printer needs to calculate each page, resulting in a very slow print job.
When we print from InDesign, we dont experience slow printing (just like the old printer)
Is there  somebody else with the same problem or can anyone tell me were to look for?
    Regards,
    Reinier Steenis

Turn off the collate option will make you collate, but will result in a faster print job. If it works fine in ID, then I'd suggest you look at the two set of printer options.

  • Computer to router constantly sending and receiving packets

I have two separate computers, one wireless and one connected direct to my router. One running XP home and the other running XP pro, both will all current updates. Both computers running ZoneAlarm Pro firewall and Kaspersky antivirus and should be virus free. Both computers are constantly sending and receiving several packets to the router every second (even with internet unplugged, this is just computer to router traffic). It is svchost.exe that is doing the work. It is TCP traffic with around 200-7000 bytes of data. Sometimes when redoing the connection (power down router, unplug cable, ect…) it will quit doing it. I had the same issue with my past USRobotics router. What could be causing this? It is interfering with my ability to monitor my internet bandwidth speed and usage.
    WRT54GL XPsp2

Since no one has any idea, I did some things on my own. The first thing I did was to use my computers firewall to block the destination port to each router (they were both different). The second thing I did was to update my linksys router firmware with DD-WRT. That seems to have solved it for good, as I have disabled the the firewall blocks and all is good. Freeware hacks rule.

  • Airport Extreme, Linksys Router WRT54G: Internet is Impossibly Slow

I have a problem regarding wireless internet activity on my Powerbook G4. In my house, I have a Linksys Router (WRT54G) that has worked fine for other laptops (including an iBook running Airport Extreme, a Powerbook G4 running Airport, and an iMac running Airport) for many years. When I got a refurbished Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz with Airport Extreme, I found that while Airport could be configured to recognize the wireless network (with a WEP 40/128-bit encrypted key), it barely works on the computer. The signal strength is strong (the laptop is hooked up right above the Linksys router), but the Internet barely works at all. Surfing to webpages takes 10-20-30 sec to work, and often the connection seems to drop off all together. Something is clearly wrong because despite the fact that this is my fastest computer with the fastest wireless capability, it runs at a slower pace than any computer I have ever used on the web.
I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems with getting Wireless Extreme on Powerbook G4s to work with this particular (and older) model of Linksys wireless browser (WRT54G). Some Internet sleuthing led me to believe that perhaps the router firmware needs to be updated or something like that, but I haven't really found any definitive answers. If there is anything wrong on the laptop-OS-side, I have no idea. I would appreciate any pointers that you can provide!
    Thank you to all,
    Matthew

    Hi all,
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, my problems persist.
I was able to reset my router and to configure it again on the web-based router configuration.
As per your suggestion, I tried switching the Wireless Network Mode to "G-only." Not only did this kick off my older computers on the network (an old iMac and an older Powerbook G4, both with normal airport), but it did not fix the speed problems on the new Powerbook G4/with Airport Extreme. I am back on the mixed setting now in order to get most of the computers on the network back to their old working states...
I also tried disabling my WEP encrypted key but found that this did not speed anything up at all.
I have upgraded my firmware from its previous version, v 1.41.2 (very old!), to the latest from the Linksys website: v 4.30.5. This has not helped at all either.
Is it possible that there is any setting on the Powerbook/Airport Extreme itself that is causing these problems?
Thank you all again for your help,
    Matthew

  • H.264 export from AVCHD source results in slow-motion video; any ideas?

Hello, I'm trying to export a 1080i project with AVCHD footage using the H.264 Bluray profile.  The resulting video looks good, but runs in slow motion.  The starting footage is AVCHD 1440x1080 (1.333).  When I export using the MPEG2 Bluray profile, everything runs fine.  Thank you for any suggestions.

Thanks for your reply.  My source footage consists of MTS files from an AVCHD camcorder.  The files are 1080i anamorphic, so 1440x1080, with an aspect ration of 1.333 and a framerate of 29.97fps.  I used one of the AVCHD sequence templates in Premiere CS5 that matched the video files.
I'm exorting using the H.264 Bluray preset for 1080i.  I tried several of the profiles (1080p, etc), but they all end with the same bad result.  The video plays, but seems to be playing at half speed.  My 15-minute clip takes 30 minutes to play, even though the timline in VLC or WMP reports at 15 minutes.  The audio sounds fine, but stops after 15 minutes (as it should).  It's obviously out of sync, since the video is playing at half speed.
I have read a few other articles indicating it might be an issue with the way Premiere is interpreting the interlaced footage from the MTS files?  This is beyond my area of knowledge.
When I encode using the MPEG-2 Bluray profile, it works fine.  The video playback speed is normal.
My end goal is to edit my MTS files from the camcorder, encode using the H.264 profile, and place in an MKV container for playback on my XBMC-based HTPC.  I'm also considering exporting as a high-bitrate MPEG-2, then using another encoder (HandBrake, etc.) to create the x264 MKV.  Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Time Capsule + Belkin Wireless router, same network to separate slower devi

Alright ladies and gents here's what I got.
I have a Time Capsule and a Belkin wireless n+ router. I want to use my Time Capsule to connect all my wireless n devices using the 5,0GHz band and use the Belkin router using the 2.4GHz band to connect the g devices thus simulating a simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi, of course all in the same network. I want to be able to see the TC disk from the "slower" devices.
    Is this possible?
Any ideas on how to configure?

We're going to need know how you have things configured now. Is the Belkin router the "main" router at this time?

Using the same wireless network name for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, as is done on the Apple "dual band" routers, there will be no guarantee that faster computers will connect to the 5 GHz network if they happen to see a stronger signal from the 2.4 GHz network...which is likely as 5 GHz signals are absorbed much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals.
Your computer will always connect to the stronger signal...not necessarily the faster signal first, unless you tell it otherwise.

  • Latop lose connection with router and reconnect every 3 min

    hi,
i have bought a wrv200 router of yu company but i have a problem i think it is something with the settings of the router.when am on my latop on the electrical net i have no problem my connection to the router is pefect but when i go on my battery of my notebook i have connection to the router for 3 min then he desconnect en reconnect .so that is a problem if am dowloading something :s
    can you help me
    thnx,

I don't think there is any issue with the router configration ,because the router can not differentiate between Electrical & Battery power to laptop .
So it has to be some Power settings on wireless card ,may be you can go to wireless card properties & try tweaking some settings in Power Management .
