Router continually accessing svchost.exe, cycling through all ports

Hi,
I recently did a clean install of Windows XP, since then my firewall (ZoneAlarm) has been continually blocking access attempts made by my router (WRT54G) to access svchost.exe, as shown here:
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9425/89700028.png
My router has a wired connection to my PC and by disconnecting the wire the access attempts stop. I don't know what is causing this or how to resolve the issue. So far I've only tried hard-resetting the router, which didn't help.
Any help would be appreciated

Firstly, thanks a lot for your help, I appreciate it.
Secondly, I'm reasonably sure that the problem isn't malware. Like I said in my first post, I only did a clean install of WinXP yesterday and since then I've only updated to SP3 and installed Firefox, ZoneAlarm, AVG, Adobe Reader and Flash. Just incase I just installed and ran Malwarebytes and Hijackthis and I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Of course I want to make sure that it isn't malware.
I've done what you said (this version of WinXP doesn't have tasklist apparently but I downloaded "Process Explorer" which serves the same function) and tried to find the process which needs those ports. The problem is that the ports accessed began at 10xx and continued all the way up to 25xx and probably would continue beyond. The svchosts with PIDs running in that range are running about 20 services... I'm not sure how I can find which service is causing the specific problem. I'm not even sure what services should be provided in the normal running of Windows.
e.g. termsrv.dll -  Remote Desktop Session Host Server Remote Connections Manager
rpcss.dll - Remote Procedure Call (two instances of this running under two different svchost processes)
ssdpsrv.dll - permits discovery of UPnP devices on your home network
Should all of these be running normally as part of Windows? And seaching all of these processes on Google says that they COULD be a trojan/malware but I don't know how I could find out which are (outside of virus scanning - which I've already done). All are located in the windows/system32/ folder which makes me think they're not anything untoward but, again, I don't know for sure.
I appreciate that you can't help any more than you have but given everything I've tried is there anything else that I can do?
 Thanks again.

  • Ipod rapidly cycles through all songs in a playlist

    It's actually my iPhone4 .. but recently after turning on Match, I go to a playlist, play a song and it cycles through all of the songs.  It will eventually stop on a song but it goes through the songs in Music rapidly.
    Did I mess up my settings in for Match/iCloud?
    Tx :-) Jen

    I agree that it seems crazy that this can't be done on an iPhone.
    Here is the best work around I have found so far.
    (It's much quicker and easier to do than to describe.)
    In outline, you make an elementary Automator patch
    that uses your playlist folder to create a hard coded playlist on iTunes
    then just sync across to your iPhone.
    1/ Run Automator on your Mac.
    2/ In the Automator library select 'Music'.
    3/ Under Actions for 'Music' select "Get specified iTunes items" and drag this into the workflow area.
    4/ Using the  "Get specified iTunes items" widget  in the workflow area, press the "add" button.
    5/ This allows you to choose from a menu that will include your playlist folder.
    6/ Now under Actions for Music select "Add songs to playlist" and drag this into the workflow area
        so that the results of the first widget will feed into it.
    7/ In the  "Add songs to playlist" widget choose "New playlist". Then enter any name for your new playlist.
    8/ Run the patch (takes a fraction of a second).
    9/ Sync generated playlist to iphone.
    Job done.

  • Can't stop playlist from cycling through all entries

    I cannot stop a playlist from cycling through all entries

    Ovi Suite never worked for me, when it came to playlits. And, Nokia PC Suite 7.1.26.1 (May 2009) was the last version which contained the Nokia Music Manager. With that app, you were able to upload playlists to a Nokia with the operating system Series 40 like yours. Together with the latest USB driver, it might work with your model.
    Nevertheless, the playlists of Nokia Series 40 (.m3u) are rather simple text files (the English explanation is at the end).

    '''''""The problem can be solved by opening FF and choosing Tools...Add On's...select the SEARCH addon and choose UNINSTALL...restart FF browser when asked, then reload Mobsters. • Using command tab for application switcher no long cycles through all apps

    Using command tab for application switcher use to work as it always has before Lion, and did in Lion for a few days. Now it stops at the last app. It always use to keep cycling through through all the apps. I figure I did something, but cannot figure out what. I have tried old tricks like force quitting dock using Activity Monitor, but that didnt work. Tried restarting, repairing permissions, and a new user account. I will great appreciate anyones help with this.
    Thanks,
    Mark C.

    I was going to post my experience about application switcher as well, but i have the opposite problem: in SL it never worked, but now in Lion it does. Since I upgraded by installing over Lion, I'm assuming there must be a setting somewhere for this behavior. There is a place for setting keyboard keystrokes, looking there may help.

  • How do I get iTunes to stop cycling through all my songs?? I want to listen to them not watch them fly by without a sound!

    I click on a song and iTunes just starts shuffling through all my songs without stop. I can't use it at all! This just started when I got the iPhone 5 so I am imagining it is a software issue but I am current and still have the problem. Are there any fixes out there?

    Do you have iTunes Match?
    If so, when does your subscription expire?  There have recently been a fair number of problems with the early adopters of iTunes Match having problems as iTM attempts to auto-renew the subscription.  Fixing this requires actual involvement of an Apple Tech Support person.
    What you're describing was exactly the behavior I experienced when Apple mistakenly cut off my iTM account last weekend.

  • How do I get my photos to cycle through ALL of the photos in my slideshow??

    I have it set for "shuffle," but it keeps picking up about 25 of the photos (which is about 1/8 of them) and that's about it.  (OSX 6.8.10) Thanks for any help!

    Hi, OT
    I'm using iPhoto version 9.2.3.  I'm not sure what you mean about the system version... My Mac O. SX is 6.8.10.
    The photos are in an album that I then made into a slideshow and then exported.  (This is what someone told to me do.)
    They do all seem to play if not shuffling (if I do the slideshow on my laptop).  It's when I stream them through Apple TV that they don't all get picked up.  The same group seems to shuffle a lot and then a random one here and there that I rarely or never see will show up on occasion rather than equally, if that makes any sense.
    There are about 350 photos in the slideshow if that matters.
    (Sorry to be so late getting back to you.  I never got an email telling me you had responded.  I just went here and scrolled through until I found your response.  I've never used this forum before.  Thanks for your help.)

  • Apple + tab to cycle through all RUNNING aps, not visible aps

    former windows user here... when I apple + tab (like alt + tab in windows) I'm given a box of all the running aps. if I chose one that's currently minimized (hidden?) in the dock, the app will come to the front but the app's window will still be hidden. so if I walk up to my computer and I want to check an application like firefox, and it's currently minimized, it seems like the only way to see it is to grab the mouse and click on the dock icon.
    any ideas? can I set the apple + tab behavior so that it will SHOW me the app when I select it, if it's currently hidden? or is there another key combination I can use once the app is selected but it's still hidden, so I can see it without using the mouse? I hope this was clear...

    In my experience Cmd-Tab switches to the application you select, that is shown by the app becoming active on the menu bar at the top, but it will not open a window if there wasn't one open when you left that application.
    BTW, there are a couple of nice shortcuts that I use with Cmd-Tab. One is; while holding the Cmd-Tab combination if you hit "Q" it will close that app. Also if you move your finger up to the "`" key right above the Tab key you can scroll backwards (shift will also do that but it is a three finger combination instead of two).
    May not be the answer you are looking for but might be helpful.

  • Win2k8R2 svchost.exe suddenly starts to use all memory

    Dear all
    I have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 + current Patchlevel Remote Desktop Host. Installed are a lot of applications, SCCM 2012 Client, Kasperksky AntiVirus Enterprise Edition.
    Yesterday i had the problem that the svchost.exe is using all RAM of the Server (32GB) and has a private working set of 120GB. A quick "fix" was to restart the server. And now after around 24h i have the same problem again.
    I did not change something on the server except install the Microsoft CA Hotfix against flame.
    The svchost that has this problem controls this services:
    svchost.exe
    AeLookupSvc, CertPropSvc, gpsvc, IKEEXT, iphlpsvc, LanmanServer, MMCSS, ProfSvc, Schedule, SENS, SessionEnv, ShellHWDetection, Themes, Winmgmt
    The server is now running since 2 Years without any problems and now it starts :/
    After a restart this svchost.exe is using just 48MB RAM.
    Thanks for any tips
    JBAB

    Hi,
    For troubleshooting purposes please reconfigure so that the services for this group run in their own process.  To do this you may create a .cmd file using Notepad with the following contents:
    sc config AeLookupSvc type= own
    sc config Appinfo type= own
    sc config AppMgmt type= own
    sc config BITS type= own
    sc config Browser type= own
    sc config CertPropSvc type= own
    sc config EapHost type= own
    sc config gpsvc type= own
    sc config hkmsvc type= own
    sc config IKEEXT type= own
    sc config iphlpsvc type= own
    sc config LanmanServer type= own
    sc config MMCSS type= own
    sc config MSiSCSI type= own
    sc config ProfSvc type= own
    sc config RasAuto type= own
    sc config RasMan type= own
    sc config RemoteAccess type= own
    sc config sacsvr type= own
    sc config Schedule type= own
    sc config SCPolicySvc type= own
    sc config seclogon type= own
    sc config SENS type= own
    sc config SessionEnv type= own
    sc config SharedAccess type= own
    sc config ShellHWDetection type= own
    sc config Themes type= own
    sc config wercplsupport type= own
    sc config Winmgmt type= own
    sc config wuauserv type= own
    After saving the file please double-click to apply the changes and then restart your server so that they will take effect.
    After restarting your server please open task manager, select the Processes tab, and sort the display by the memory column so that the processes that are using the most memory will appear on top.  When one of the services starts to use too much memory
    you will be able to right-click on it and choose Go to Service(s) and you will know which service is misbehaving.
    Thanks.

  • Ipod nano cycles through song titles in playlist:

    Gateway   Windows XP
    When I try to play any song in the "purchased" or "newly added" playlists on my wife's nano pod it cycles through all of the song titles. I cannot get it to play any of the songs I select. It just continues to cycle through all of the titles. I know this is a malfunction because my 30gig Ipod does not function like this. I can select and play any song in any playlist. I'm thinking perhaps there is a setting I need to change.
    Gateway   Windows XP
    Gateway   Windows XP

    It doesn't sound like a settings issue to me.
    Try resetting the iPod by toggling Hold on and off, then holding Menu adn Select for 6-10 seconds until Apple logo shows up.
    If that doesn't work, make sure it has the most up-to-date software (version 1.1.1 released 3-23).
    If the problem continues, try restoring the iPod through the iPod Updater. This will wipe the iPod's memory clean, so you'll have to re-put the songs onto the iPod through iTunes.
    I hope this helps!

  • How to cycle through report items

    If we have a report on a page, is it possible to cycle through all the items on the report by using JavaScript and fetch one of the attributes for all rows (i.e. ID)? I would then pass on these attributes to an external JS control....

    $('#report_edit_table tbody tr :checked').each(function() {
          var EDIT_FIELD_VALUE =  parseFloat($(this).closest('tr').find('.class specified in See Note 1 ').val());
          var TEXT_FIELD_VALUE =  parseFloat($(this).closest('tr').find('.class specified See Note 1').text());
    });This is more JQuery
    The Each function cycles through all rows. The checked specification is because this is being used on a tabular form with a checkbox. I believe you could take that off for a report and cycle through all rows on the page.
    The "#report_edit_table" is a Static ID to assign to the report region. IN my case, I assigned "edit_table" and APex adds the "report_". So, to be sure of the actual ID, use Firefox/Firebug or Chrome Developer tools (much better btw) and examine the html.
    If the field you want the value of is in a editable field such as on a tabular from, use the ".val"
    If the field you want the value of is in a text field such as on a tabular from, use the ".text" - Sounds like this is what you want as I doubt you'd display the ID field in an editable column.
    Note 1 For the class selector ".class specified in See This Note" Go to report attributes, edit the column of the ID field. Go to Column Attributes. Enter: class="id_class" for example, then enter '.id_class' in the JQuery above
    Note that in order to access a text field value, I believe you need to have it as a hidden field or a text field that saves state.
    Lots of ways to skin the cat, but this is one we use. Hope it helps. There are other variations/examples out there on a google search.

    Just noticed you don't need the parseFloat if you're only reading text values. Use parseFloat if you're getting a number field and you want to do some numeric function on it.

  • Programmatically Cycle through Boolean Array

    I'm using an Agilent 34970 with a 34901A switch module. It has 16 switches going to two commons. The end function is to switch through all the sources to read resistance and voltage.
    The driver and sample vi from the NI idnet were used as a base for my vi.
    The sample vi uses a user-controlled 2-d boolean array (false = open). I want to be able to programmatically cycle through all the switches, but I don't know how to tell the dimensions of array I have.
    I would like to go through every element of the 2nd raw for each element in the 1st row. If I could programmatically ignore elements #9, 10, 19, and 20, that would be helpful too.
    Thanks for any help!

    There is "array size" which tells you the actual size of the 2D array.
    There are properties that tell you how many rows and columns are visible in the front panel array container.
    There are also properties that tell which element is currently scrolled to the top left corner.
    The size and index position of the front panel array control or indicator is not related to the actual array size. You can show only 2x2 elements of a 1000x1000 array or vice versa. if the container is too big, the extra elements are greyed.

  • Cycle through key commands?

    Hello everyone,
    I'm trying to assign a key command but am having a hard time doing so. I'd like to assign the "turn alias into real copy" key command with some modification of the letter "K" as I use "K" for turning loops into real copies, but the key commands window will not show me all uses of K.
    For example "Shift-K" is assigned to "select by channel" in my arrange/event editors, but when I type "Shift-K" in my key commands window nothing comes up!
    Thus I'm wondering is there an easy way to "cycle" through all the key commands that use K? I'm probably missing something really simple here, but project deadlines have me freaking out so I apologize.
    Thanks for putting up with me

    Thanks as usual guys. Man, what a crappy bug, especially when you need to work quickly, the last think you need is frustration coupled with feelings of retardation.
    Since I have you guys here, I'd like to ask another question if I may. I'm using multi-recording (i.e. recording enabling multiple tracks) to quickly realize ideas (e.g. recording pizz bass & cello lines at the same time) and when I do it creates one "real copy" and an alias of all other recorded parts. Is it possible to either turn off alias parts so it records all "real" parts, or if thats not possible, to have the alias copies at least keep their track names? As it stands now my cello parts all have "bass" as their names, which gets confusing while using the event editor. Of course I can manually change their names, but I'm looking for time savers here! :=)
    Thanks again everyone!

  • Loop through all controls in view

    Hi Everyone,
    I need to cycle through all the controls on a view.
    I have set each of the controls of type UISegmentedControl with a unique tag number.
    I am using this tag number to perform a lookup in database for the value of the segmented control.
    So, my question is this.... how do i cycle through all the controls on a view?
    thank you
    take care
    tony

    alt-088 wrote:
    I think we are close - just one correction.
    The segmented controls are all at design time, there will be no new controls added.
    I'm not clear on what's been corrected. The sample code I gave you assumed all the controls were known at compile time. So I think the example code addressed the problem you're trying to solve. The last paragraph of that post was just an afterthought, to explain what to do in case you ever needed to add controls dynamically.
    -> loop through all controls on view
    -> if control is of type uisegmentdcontrol
    then do database lookup on tag
    Set segment value to value returned from database
    Once again, if I correctly understand the above, the code I gave you does exactly what you want. You haven't indicated you want to take any action when a control is not a segmented control, so I don't see why you'd want to include them in the loop. However, if you actually do need to enumerate non-segmented controls (or other subviews), my last response advised you to set the tag properties of all those other controls, making sure the range of those tags is different from the range of the seg control tags.
    The part that eludes me is the looping through all the controls on the view
    I guess the part that eludes me is why you're so interested in enumerating all the controls, when you only seem to be interested in the segmented controls. But even if you really do need to look at every control, I don't see why you're rejecting the solution I gave you. [viewWithTag:|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UIKit/Ref erence/UIViewClass/UIView/UIView.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40006816-CH3-SW26] is a powerful method which recursively walks the entire view hierarchy to find whatever tag it's looking for. If you use it correctly (e.g. by assigning unique tag numbers that tell you what type of control you've found), it will save you lots of trouble.
    If, for some reason, you insist on doing this job without using viewWithTag, the next best might be something like this:
    - (void)doSomethingWithEachSegCtrlInView:(UIView *theView) {
    UIView *subView;
    for (subView in theView.subviews) {
    if ([subView respondsToSelector:@selector(selectedSegmentIndex)]) {
    // subView is a segmented control ...
    else {
    // subView is not a segmented control ...
    if ([subView.subviews count]) {
    // this subview has its own subviews
    [self doSomethingWithEachSegCtrlInView:subView];
    Note that the above is a more difficult, more error prone method than the sample in my first response. Firstly, it needs to recurse in case any controls are placed on subviews of the main view (or on subviews of those subviews, etc.), a capability already built into viewWithTag. Secondly it needs to identify the type of each subview object. [respondsToSelector:|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/Co coa/Reference/Foundation/Protocols/NSObjectProtocol/Reference/NSObject.html#//appleref/occ/intfm/NSObject/respondsToSelector:] is the preferred way of identifying the class of an object, especially when the selector argument represents one of the methods you intend to use. However there's no reason to get into the business of identifying the class of an object, when you could have given that object a unique tag number in the xib, where there was no question about its class.
    Hope the above communicates the solution better than my first response!
