Router Crashes w/multiple types of clients (b/g)

I've got a WRT54GS that i'm using with several G devices without problems, but anytime I turn on my handheld pocket pc with wireless-b, the router hangs.
I'm not using the WRT54GS for DHCP, and I'm using WEP-128 and I have the latest firmware on the router.  Would switching to WPA help?
It usually happens right when i turn a new device on, either my laptop or handheld.  After rebooting, it's ok for a while.
Any settings I should check or change?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Resolved, the problem wasn't with the router, it was the pocket pc.

  • How to configure Multiple PPTP VPN Clients on cisco 3g supported Router

    I want the router to be a PPTP VPN client to 2 independent PPTP servers, both are in different cities in Cisco routers. I have tested with one on cisco 1841 aqnd its working fine; but when I add the 2nd, its using vpdn-group 1 and therefore connecting to the wrong PPTP server:
    here is the config for the one that works:
    vpdn-group 1
    request-dialin
    protocol pptp
    rotary-group 0
    initiate-to ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    interface Dialer0
    mtu 1450
    ip address negotiated
    ip pim dense-mode
    ip nat outside
    ip virtual-reassembly
    zone-member security private
    encapsulation ppp
    ip igmp query-interval 125
    dialer in-band
    dialer idle-timeout 0
    dialer string 123
    dialer vpdn
    dialer-group 1
    no peer neighbor-route
    no cdp enable
    ppp pfc local request
    ppp pfc remote apply
    ppp encrypt mppe auto
    ppp authentication ms-chap-v2 ms-chap eap chap pap callin
    ppp eap refuse
    ppp chap hostname xxx@xxx
    ppp chap password 7 xxxpassword
    But if I create a vpdn-group 2 and a Dialer1 interface, with dialer-group 2, its still attempting to connect to the IP in vpdn-group 1 - how do I get it to use the 2nd vpdn-group, or how do I make this work? and which cisco 3G Router you prefer because these are remote sites and only 3G Internet service is available.

  • Trying to send multiple types in a byte array -- questions?

    Hi,
    I have a question which I would really appreciate any help on.
    I am trying to send a byte array, that contains multiple types using a UDP app. and then receive it on the other end.
    So far I have been able to do this using the following code. Please note that I create a new String, Float or Double object to be able to correctly send and receive. Here is the code:
    //this is on the client side...
    String mymessage ="Here is your stuff from your client" ;
    int nbr = 22; Double nbr2 = new Double(1232.11223);
    Float nbr3 = new Float(8098098.809808);
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(baos);
    oos.writeObject(mymessage);
    oos.writeInt(nbr);
    oos.writeObject(nbr2);
    oos.writeObject(nbr3);
    oos.close();
    byte[] buffer = baos.toByteArray();
    socket.send(packet);
    //this is on the server side...
    byte [] buffer = new byte [5000];
    String mymessage = null; int nbr = 0; Double nbr2 = null;
    Float nbr3 = null;
    mymessage = (String)ois.readObject();
    nbr = ois.readInt();
    nbr2 = (Double) ois.readObject();
    nbr3 = (Float) ois.readObject();
    My main question here is that I have to create a new Float and Double object to be able to send and receive this byte array correctly. However, I would like to be able to have to only create 1object, stuff it with the String, int, Float and Double, send it and then correctly receive it on the other end.
    So I tried creating another class, and then creating an obj of this class and stuffing it with the 4 types:
    public class O_struct{
    //the indiv. objects to be sent...
    public String mymessage; public int nbr; public Double nbr2;
    public Float nbr3;
    //construct...
    public O_struct(String mymessage_c, int nbr_c, double nbr2_c, float nbr3_c){
    my_message = my_message_c;
    nbr = nbr_c;
    nbr2 = new Double(nbr2_c);
    nbr3 = new Float(nbr3_c);
    Then in main, using this new class:
    in main():
    O_struct some_obj_client = new O_struct("Here is your stuff from your client", 22, 1232.1234, 890980980.798);
    oos.writeObject(some_obj_client);
    oos.close();
    send code....according to UDP
    However on the receiving side, I am not sure how to be able to correctly retrieve the 4 types. Before I was explicitely creating those objects for sending, then I was casting them again on the receiving side to retrieve then and it does work.
    But if I create a O_struct object and cast it as I did before with the indiv objects on the receiving end, I can't get the correct retrievals.
    My code, on the server side:
    O_struct some_obj_server = new O_struct(null, null, null. null);
    some_obj_server = (O_struct)ois.readObject();
    My main goal is to be able to send 4 types in a byte array, but the way I have written this code, I have to create a Float and Double obj to be able to send and receive correctly. I would rather not have to directly create these objects, but instead be able to stuff all 4 types into a byte array and then send it and correctly be able to retrieve all the info on the receiver's side.
    I might be making this more complicated than needed, but this was the only way I could figure out how to do this and any help will be greatly appreciated.
    If there an easier way to do I certainly will appreciate that advise as well.
    Thanks.

    public class O_struct implements Serializable {
    // writing
    ObjectOutputStream oos = ...;
    O_struct struct = ...;
    oos.writeObject(struct);
    // reading
    ObjectInputStream ois = ...;
    O_struct struct = (O_struct)ois.readObject();
    I will be sending 1000s of these byte arrays, and I'm sure having to create a new Double or Float on both ends will hinder this.
    I am worried that having to create new objs every time it is sending a byte array will affect my application.
    That's the wrong way to approach this. You're talking about adding complexity to your code and fuglifying it because you think it might improve performance. But you don't know if it will, or by how much, or even if it needs to be improved.
    Personally, I'd guess that the I/O will have a much bigger affect on performance than object creation (which, contrary to popular belief, is generally quite fast now: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-jtp01274.html)
    If you think object creation is going to be a problem, then before you go and cock up your real code to work around it, create some tests that measure how fast it is one way vs. the other. Then only use the cock-up if the normal, easier to write and maintain way is too slow AND the cock-up is significantly faster.

  • Router Crashing when ATM Interface under Heavier Load

    Hi all,
    Looking for a little guidance before I engage TAC (AKA, waiting for maintenance contract purchase approval). I have a 3945 router running IOS 15.1.2T5 with an ATM interface card and adapter. It is currently configured with a 30Mbps PVC. As it reaches about 20 to 21Mbps and 14000 packets per second, I start to see output drops on the interface, which I had previously attributed to a combination of ATM overhead + volume of traffic being pushed through it. About half of the traffic that passes through is VoIP, so it is a lot of smaller packets, which hurts on ATM overhead, if I recall correctly. Starting yesterday, though, the circuit peaked at 23Mbps and 17000 packets per second. About 5 minutes, later, the router crashed and rebooted itself. Crash info reports the following:
    PCIe Interrupt - Root Complex 0
    Last PCIe Read CFG Data =  0x81000030
    Last PCIe Write CFG Data = 0x81000034

    Plus the various memory dumps.
    This has happened 3 times now and in all cases, traffic levels have been the same just before the crash.
    Any help in understanding why this is happening would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

    Unless you really need your particular IOS version, like Leo, I too would recommend moving to a mainline recommended release that suites your needs.
    PS:
    It's likely you're correct that you're seeing drops before you hit your ATM "bandwidth" cap.  The ATM cell "tax" is a 5 byte header in each 53 byte cell and, if doing IP, there's cell padding (packets will sized up to the next multiple of 48).
    For example, a 97 byte payload would consume 159 bytes (about 39% overhead).

  • Wine + utorrent = router crash in a few hours

    It didn't happen when I was using windows, or at least not often. I have left the same settings when I was using it under windows, so it shouldn't be a configuration issue.
    My connection has quite a high... loss/damping/attenuation? not sure which is the English term. That might be one reason it's putting a higher strain on my router. It is stable otherwise though, no disconnects.
    I have also tried other torrent clients and the issue is not happening. Something else happens instead, which essentially results in the same - loss of connection. I am honestly sick and tired of trying to get a torrent client to run without it crashing and the company which made this router isn't helping either. I was actually having the same issue on an older router, and replaced that one with this new one. And once I changed back to utorrent, it starts crashing just like the old one. I'm pretty close to just dumping everything and going back to windows -_-
    So, tl;dr: is there something about wine which might put even more strain on a router when using a "wine" torrent client? Maybe more so on a less than perfect connection?

    Considering it doesn't happen when I use µtorrent on windows, I really doubt it's a router issue. Especially since another (older) router shows the same behavior, as I said. And once I stop using µtorrent, the crashes stop, also. This pretty much exclude a defective device in my eyes. Feel free to point out any logical mistakes I might be making.
    Limiting the upload in µtorrent doesn't work, sadly. I previously had it unlimited, relying on the uTP and the router to prioritize the traffic. Now it's also limited to be below my maximum upload, but the router still crashes when µtorrent is running. I have also tried to set the low_cpu option in the advanced section, which is supposed to make µtorrent create connections less aggressively, and it doesn't really change anything.

  • Get Uploaded File Mime Type and Client Filename

    Anyone know how to recover an uploaded file MIME type and
    client file name?
    I'm writing my own cfx tag to process file uploads and pretty
    much have it figured out except to determine the name of the client
    file and mime type. The formfield file variable value contains the
    path/filename to the CF temp directory, but I need the MIME type,
    filename, etc. that is contained int he HTTP Header
    (e.g. Content-Disposition: form-data; name="Image";
    filename="C:\test.JPG"
    Content-Type: image/pjpeg
    [empty line])
    I'm using the getHttpRequestData() functiont, but it only
    gives me the content-type multipart/form-data, leaving out the Mime
    type and Content-Disposition (which contains the client file name).

    Hi Daniel,
    do you use EPG, mod_plsql or APEX Listener? Have you changed the connection mechanism after upgrading to 4.2.1?

  • My router crashes at the sight of my macbook.!! I have to keep them well separated

    Hi
    I live in France and have a Orange router for wifi with 2 laptops, my MacBook and a Sony Vaio.
    The router crashes whenever I approach it with my Ipad Or Mac. It works fine. It hates Apple?  I am constantly resetting. Both laptops  state that there is an IP conflict. My mac is designed to adapt to that...?
    Can you suggest action please?  Merci

    You may have to see if it is fairly easy to set up wireless by hardware identification number, commonly referred to as 'mac address' in DHCP in router server; which has nothing to do with Apple, as all hardware can use their ID to connect. Including printers so equipped. This is usually done by ethernet or wireless, and imparts a greater degree of security at your home base for those items you have. Is there something there that is repeating or re-sending the wireless signal,  perhaps on the same frequency as the router? Channel numbers can be changed, for example, if there are two. But there are more complex things to consider if the matter is worse, and so far there is no explanation for this conflict. The MacBook and Sony should be able to use the same wireless router base station.
    How is file sharing and internet sharing set up on these competing devices? This can be a place to look.
    •Cascading router and DHCP conflicts?
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/44038-42-cascading-router-dhcp-conflict
    In an area a bit more complex, the matter of IP Conflict, this one when moving between wi-fi router and repeater, is among the more difficult: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/38238-43-conflict-moving-wifi-router-wifi-repe ater This may not be what is happening with your competing wi-fi products, but that matter of settings, since you can share files, and also web connections through the Apple products. As an option.
    Other router conflicts are noted, from a larger volume of search results:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/27902-43-router-conflict
    Also, it may be a matter of choosing how the MacBook connects to the available wireless, and what those wireless settings are in the router, and if the MacBook shares an internet connect to another product, that could be a source of conflict if not set up correctly. Something may be seeing a third product as a competing source of a potential wi-fi connection to the internet, and it isn't.
    Some of these things have a dynamic IP address (changes) and another could be using fixed IP addresses. The router 's should be fixed. All of mine are and I can use four Macs, or more PCs via an Apple branded wireless router.
    There are several possibilities, and most difficult to guess at a distance. But the settings in each brand and item have to be looked into, as they all have the ability to be customized to fit certain working parameters.
    Not sure if this helps any... at 2AM.
    Good luck & happy computing!
