Router disconnection issues - only on weekdays

Sky sent me a new Router last week in order to fix the disconnection issues I've been having. I'm having the same problems as I did with my old router. Between 9 am to 6 pm (only on weekdays) - The light is Amber (static, not blinking) and I have to reboot to fix it. It disconnects after a few minutes and the only way to fix it is to reboot is. I've tried other channels 1, 6, 11 for 2 weeks now and even plugged it into the test/BT socket. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Connection speed is decent, but the internet always becomes slow, then disconnects as time decays. I live in Alderley Edge. I don't have these problems on Saturdays and Sundays or anything before 9 am on weekdays.  Here are some of the saved log files. Jan 1 00:00:07 syslog: BusyBox v1.17.2

If this is only happening on weekdays between 9 and 6pm it is very likely REIN interference. This could be from a factory, school or business that closes at the weekend. The only way to get it fixed is to get Sky to send out a REIN trained engineer and as they have to do this through BTO, it is more than difficult. This could probably be fixed by fitting an RF3 filter, which should be done by BTO but many do themselves.

    I have an Airport Extreme as my router and am using time capsule to extend the network in my new house. My ISP is only providing me 4-5 ip addresses and wants me to set up my router to issue out new ip addresses for all my devices.How do I fix this?Help.
    They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

    It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

  • Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

    Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

    Actually it does with Ethernet too: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    What happens when the Mac goes to sleep (not just into idle mode or display sleep)?
    On all Macs:
    The microprocessor goes into a low-power mode
    Video output is turned off, and a connected display may turn off or enter its own idle state
    Apple-supplied hard disks spin down; third-party hard disks may spin down
    On portable Macs:
    The Ethernet port turns off, if applicable (see note below)
    Expansion card slots turn off
    The built-in modem, if present, turns off (see note below)
    An AirPort card, if present, turns off (see note below)
    The USB ports only responds to the power key on an external keyboard (see below)
    The optical media drive, if present, spins down
    Audio input and output turns off
    Keyboard illumination, if a feature of your portable computer, turns off
    But see the note about selecting, "Wake For Network Access" in Energy Saver preferences.
    Note: Portable computers have no network connectivity when in sleep mode, but can wake if the Energy Saver option "Wake for network access" is enabled. If you wish to use file sharing or don't want to interrupt your Internet connection, you should not manually put the computer to sleep, and you should drag the "Computer sleep" slider to Never.

  • Wireless Disconnect Issue

    How big a problem is this?
    I've been hearing about this issue in forums all over and I'm not sure if it's a widespread issue or an issue only because I've been snooping around on Apple troubleshooting forums.
    I ask because I'm about to pick up a new MBP but one of my reasons for doing so is that my old computer is constantly experiencing wireless internet disconnects.
    Seems silly to plunk down all that cash for a new system that is plagued by similar issues.
    Any new firmware fixes that have resolved this issue?

    You have left out a third option - software. My MacBook worked just fine before the 10.4.10 update. After the update I could no longer connect to a secure network without connecting to a/c power. My iphones and my imac connect to this same wireless router without problems. After several months of using the MacBook only when plugged in I decided to go back to 10.4.9. Guess what? The problem went away. So, it seems to me that the problem is with software (possibly somehow in conjunction with a hardware issue, I suppose, but since all was well prior to 10.4.10, the hardware cannot be entirely at fault).
    I suppose that you probably won't believe any of this since I'm just a "user".

  • WAG120N - Frequent Internet Disconnection Issue

    I have bought a Linksys WAG120N few days back & after i got it , i also updated it to the newest firmware from the Linksys site.The Firmware version for my product is , 1.00.12 Annex A.
    But i am getting a  frequent internet disconnection after installing the Router/Modem.I am not a newbie in this.I have done my CCNP with full marks & currently working in IBM India & i have enough knowledge on how to configure Routers.
    I have done the Flashing in the correct process & after Flashing , i did a 30-30-30 Reset as explained in this forum somewhere but the issue is still existing.
    I am listing below what i have done so far. :-
    1) After getting the Router , i have updated to the newest firmware & Hard-Resetted the Router as explained in this forum.
    2) Then i configured the modem with the values from my ISP.I have done it both manually & also tried the Linksys Setup wizard that came on the CD with the Product and the SETUP WIZARD HAS MY ISP ON THE LIST as well.
    3) I got the net connected after configuring but only for some time.After that , i am constantly getting disconnected from the Internet no matter what if i use the Wired or the Wireless devices to access the Internet.I tried setting the Router with both  wireless Security enabled & disabled.No luck in either cases.Almost all of the time i get a disconnection when the DSL Link is Steady on the WAG120N.So, this should not be a Line problem.Also i can access the Net with my ISP provided Modem.No problems at all.
    4) I tried uninstalling the Anti-Virus & the Internet Security program i use which is Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010.No luck.
    5) I have Formatted & did a Clean Install of Windows 7 X64 & Windows XP SP3 & tried running the Router on a freshly installed operating system with no other software installed.I tried different Machines , Different Operating Systems , Different Lan Ports.No luck.
    6) I deactivated Windows default Firewall & every Power Saving functions of my OS.No luck.
    7) Linksys suggested me to visit the Service Center & get a replacement.I did visit the Linksys Authorized Service Center & got a new WAG120N & brought that to my home.I had to pay around 20 USD Taxi Fare as the Service Center is at the remotest part of my city.I wish if Linksys had a Pick-Up & Drop facility which nearly every big companies offer in my place.
    8) The new WAG120N did not change anything.The disconnection issue is still existing.
    9) There is absolutely NO problem in my ADSL line.I am using a 512kbps ADSL connection & when i use the CHEAPEST Wi-Fi ADSL Modem which has been given  by my ISP , i can access Internet just fine , no problems at all either in Wired or the Wireless.So, in this case The Linksys ADSL Router is at fault.
    10) I can see the ADSL line Stats with my 20 USD worth of Huawei ( ISP provided ) Modem but the 150 USD worth of Cisco/Linksys WAG120N does not support showing the ADSL Line stats ( or at least the Firmware doesn't support it ) which is unbelievable for a company of caliber like Cisco.
    The two most important things every Modem at least should display are :-
    1 ) SNR Margin
    2 ) Attenuation
    These two are absolutely a Must-Have features if you want to see how good your ADSL connection is & i am surprised to see that my cheapest ISP modem does have these but a Cisco product does not. !!!!!!!!
    I have called the Linksys support again & they told me that they are Escalating  my case to their 2nd Level.
    I got a response from their Level 2 Support Person & he asked me to provide information about my case & i had sent him a reply 2 days ago but no reply from him.
    And I am NOT the only person with this problem.I do not know Linksys knows this or not but there are several Linksys users who are using this model & are facing the exact same issues as me.
    Here are some of them & they have been posted on this community itself :-
    1) http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Cable-and-DSL/Wag120n-problem/td-p/300397
    2) http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Cable-and-DSL/WAG120N-keeps-disconnected-from-internet/m-p/330870/...
    Tell me Sir , what should i do ? Should i sell it & get another brand or Linksys is going to help me to resolve the problem ? I am extremely sorry to say that i feel regretted that i invested my hard earned money into this which just does not want to work at all.I am too much frustrated & not going to buy any Cisco product if my problem does not get solved because i can not bother the disconnection problem as i need to stay connected all the time for my job & also for my personal reasons.It is a shame that i had to pack my Linksys up on the shelves & have to use the cheapest quality Chinese ( No offense ) Modem because at least the connection does not drop here & I can use it for what it is meant to be.
    I will be expecting a quick reply from you people & would also hope that you will be able to solve the problem.Also i think the problem is not the Router but the Firmware itself is faulty but i am not sure about that because this is my first Cisco product & frankly speaking I am very much disappointed with it.I would very much like to experience a Cisco product because i thought it is an World Class product in the business.So, please help me resolve this problem.Either Linksys should help me resolve the problem and get me an working product or i would want to get my money back.Thank You.
    (Mod note: Edited for guideline compliance.)

    Yes but I think Linksys should give me another one which is working right ? Why should i invest in another Router as i just bought it & its already too pricey here.
    I need an ADSL Wi-Fi Modem Router & there is only three models avilable here.One is this one which i'm using , WAG120N & the other two are  WAG160N & WAG320N & both of them costs more than triple than that of WAG120N.And no one is going to give me a replacement here.I can get the replacement but the same Router.I can not upgrade it without having to buy a whole new router which costs thrice than my current one.
    So, i would be highly oblized if Linksys can give me a replacement because only they can replace it with another model but Linksys India customer Care is only suggesting me that they can issue a replacement for the same model & can not give any other model.
    I sent my concern to the 2nd Level Technicians but have not received any reply.Feeling helpless at the moment.
    My posts are edited & most important parts are being deleted.Please do not edit my post.All i am wanting to get a suggestion for my problem.I do not want to bother you with my problems but the communities are meant mainly for that purpose so that we can help & support each other.
    Thank you.

  • Airport-Router authentication issue

    Hi - I have a really annoying authentication issue between my MBP (late '06) and my DIR-655 D-Link router (f/w 1.22 b05).
    I am getting "disconnection" issues on my MacBook Pro only. We are not seeing any issues on my fiance's Vaio laptop. So I'm thinking maybe the router isn't to blame...?
    I put "disonnection" in quotes because airport always shows that there is a connection to the router/network, but there clearly is not. Sometimes I have to disconnect/reconnect airport, but often the connection just comes back after 30 seconds or so. It usually looks like a DNS issue...holding at the "looking up" stage, but I really don't think it is. I've tried various domain name servers.
    I thought I had worked around this by allowing the router to accept G in addition to 802.11n connections, but the problem, while not as prevalent, seems to have increased lately even while using 802.11g.
    I see that the router's log is replete with messages like this:
    *Wireless system with MAC address 0017F2HR7BC6 disconnected for reason: Authentication Failed*
    That MAC address is indeed my MBP
    I'm also seeing a lot of messages along these lines:
    *Blocked incoming TCP connection request from 119.154.75.13:1420 to 173.78.73.92:445*
    But I assume these messages are unrelated.
    So I turned off WPA-Personal security and, of course, no further authentication errors. Those blocked TCP requests continue.
    Of course, I don't want to keep WPA turned off.
    Any ideas as to why authentication would be failing on and off with airport? I didn't even realize there was more than a single authentication (i.e. after you first connect), but I still have a LOT to learn about routers!
    Any ideas appreciated!

    FWIW
    119.154.75.13 = an address in Pakistan
    173.78.73.92 = an address in Tampa, Florida on the Verizon Network
    Have you been using BitTorrent or some other p2p software lately ?
    Re your router issue, have you considered using MAC Address Security (not WAP/WEP) ?

  • Wifi disconnect issue w new Mac

    I bought a new Mac about a week ago.  Right away I started experiencing wifi disconnect issues.  I called customer support line and they had me reset the eprom.  I don't recall the key sequence now. The problem went away for a week but has now returned.  Is this a hardware quality issue?

    right my friend, you know this is not an uncommon issue with mac, all my macs have the same issue (macbook, mac pro, mac mini and older imac), i disconnect the wifi and reconnect to sole the issue. it depends alot on what you have thats goign on around you, if there is a lot of wireless networks in your area then this might cause the issue. i improved this problem using a time machine and set the wireless to 5ghz only - it helped. i also bought an airport express to strengthen the network and touchwood this is a rare problem for me now!
    try moving the modem around in case it this - ensure its not on the floor or touching the floor, there are many tips for improving modem connections look on youtube
    however the sequence for this is on

  • Long running disconnections issue

    I'm having an ongoing disconnections and poor connection issue. I've have had 8 engineer visits now over the last 6 months. I have another one due this week.
    The last engineer suggested that the problem was interference from the TV so I re-arranged the front room to move the TV away from the phone socket. It seemed to work fine for 3 days and then the disconnections and poor connection came back. I have tested having the TV off and it still disconnects. It is also disconnecting during the night when everything is off so it can't be the TV.
    The pattern that repeats itself seems to be that the line connects at high speed (~17-19meg down 1meg up) after the line test, and reset, then degrades over the following days with disconnections until it drops to about 4meg down and .5 up.
    Until about 12 months ago I was getting 17meg down 1meg up consistently without fault.
    The issue has been getting progressively worse. At first I noticed that the ping on my line would spike (500ms compared to 100ms on the normal test I use). I reboot would usually resolve this. About 3 months after this the high ping was becoming more common and I started getting disconnections. Only once a week at first. Then over the following months the disconnections got more often to the point of several times a day. This is when I first started getting engineer visits. Things have continued to get worse and nothing has been fixed.
    Yesterday it was disconnecting every 30 minutes or so, went down to 52k up speed at one point and was still disconnecting at 7meg down, 0.3 up. I was also getting massive packet loss.
    It seems to me like something somewhere has been degrading over time causing this problem. Every engineer that visits seems to be extremely reluctant to consider that the problem might be something outside of my house.

  • Another speed / disconnection issues thread

    Hi all,
    I'm getting quite frustrated with getting a problem on my line fixed, that's affecting both broadband and telephone service. This has been going on (on and off) since summer last year.
    Using a BT Homehub 2, the connection started dropping quite frequently, and a noise appeared on the phone line - bad enough that I couldn't use it for calls as I couldn't hear what the other person was saying. After multiple telephone engineer visits (about 5 different engineers - it was an intermittent fault, so difficult to trace I believe) they narrowed it down to a section of overhead cable that was rubbing against a tree branch. It took a complaint to BT to actually get this section of cable replaced though. This takes us up to around November last year.
    Since then we had a couple of months of reasonably stable service (the noise had all but disappeared and broadband was connected at a regular 2.5mbps). However recently the noise has returned on the phone line and the broadband issues have also come back (regular disconnects and low speed). Some days it disconnects every 10 minutes for a few hours, and some days maybe 5 times in the whole day.
    The BT broadband technical support line ran a line test about a week ago and decided they needed to escalate the issue to a Level 2 team (whatever that means). They ran more tests and, following their script, decided that my Homehub was at fault. I didn't agree, but decided to humour them. I have a spare ADSL router, and have swapped the BT homehub out for that, with no resulting difference in connection speed or stability.
    I'm currently connected at 576kbps. The ADSL router is connected directly to the test socket, and has been for the last 2 weeks. I have also tried swapping filters. Still no improvement. I called technical support this morning again for an update, and they decided that they wanted to try resetting my IP profile. When I asked them what this would achieve they said that it would fix my speed issue, my disconnection issue, and the noise on my telephone line.
    Now this sounds a little bit ambitious to me - I don't see how a simple IP profile reset can fix all these issues, but I'm not a technical expert and so I'm coming to you for advice. Does this sound like a reasonable course of action to you? My view is that there is still a fault somewhere on the line or in the exchange, but they are currently refusing to send out an engineer to run tests from this end, and are telling me I need to wait up to 4 days for the IP profile reset to take effect before they will consider sending one out.
    Sorry for the long post - any help or advice much appreciated. Here's some noise stats from the router (not a BT one at the moment, but as I said, it doesn't seem to make any difference which router I use).

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    I have re-connected the Homehub to the test socket now. The downstream rate seems to have gone way up (this is the first time I've seen a rate this high since I first connected the Homehub to the test socket about two weeks ago). Just goes to show how much speed the connection loses when using internal wiring - as I said, I used to get about 2.5mbps - but that's a different issue.
    My disconnection / speed issue is frustratingly intermittent, as swapping between the two different routers hasn't made any difference over the last week, with downstream rates of 1mbps or less, but now that you've asked me to do it, typically it now looks much better. Going on my past experience though it won't hold this rate for very long.

  • Use WRP400 (VoIP Router) for Voice only, and the rest with WRT54GL

    Hey there, I hope you are doing great!
    The reason of this thread is because I recently moved to a cable ISP and unfortunately had to also change routers in order to take advantage of the VoIP feature (analog phone) they provided me with.
    Now, the new router, the WRP400, is very limited feature-wise compared to the custom flashed WRT54GL I used to use with my DSL provider.
    Now the WRT54GL does not have any FXS ports, so I obviously can't just plug my cable modem to the WRT54GL. Therefore, I was hoping to achieve a setup similar to this one:
    Cable modem => VoIP Router w/ voice only (WRP400) => "Main" router (WRT54GL w/ Tomato)
    Is there a way to bridge the WRP400 successfully with the WRT54GL keeping only the voice feature enabled on the VoIP router while the WRT54GL takes care of the rest? (Wireless, WAN, port forwarding, etc)
    Thank you very much for your help, and have an awesome day!
    Lev

    I am going to provide a few snapshots of the config pages as to make this easier:

    Once more, thank you very much for the assistance!

  • Error when opening a pdf by clicking a search result. Link works fine when opened any other way. IE issue only.

    The issue:
    www.norwich.gov.uk
    When you carry out a search for "co-operative bank" and click the first result (which is a pdf), Adobe Reader is launched and the user sees this error: "There was an error opening this document, The filename, directory name or volume label syntax
    is incorrect"
    However, if you do any of these...
    right-click the link and choose to open it in a new tab
    right-click the link, copy the shortcut, paste it into the address bar and hit go
    open the file directly from the library
    open the file by clicking on a hyperlink
    ... you are prompted to Open or Save the file. On choosing 'Open' the file is opened in the browser window with no problems.  It is only when clicking on the link in the search results that the issue arises.  The issue only occurs with IE.
    Current settings:
    Client integration is disabled
    Browser file handling is set to permissive
    Default open behaviour for browser-enabled documents is set to open in the browser
    DOCICON.xml is configured to show <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" EditText="Adobe Acrobat" OpenControl=""/>
    Disabling the Adobe Acrobat SharePoint Opendocuments add-on 'fixes' the issue, in that the user no longer sees the error, but instead sees the prompt. However, this doesn't help us as the site is public facing asn we cant control user's add-ons.
    Hope someone can help.

    I tried this from my laptop with IE8 and it worked fine.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks

  • Java.Lang.nullpointerexception issue only isolated to a repository on the job server

    I am having the
    "Java.Lang.nullpointerexception" error message issue only isolated to a repository on the job server.
    This error message appearing when i try to execute or create a new schedule for a job on mgmt console.
    I have few other repositories in the same server, with those repositories i am not having any issues, in terms of executing a job or creating a new schedule.
    Does any one had the similar issue, and know how to resolve it.
    Thanks a lot for the helpful info.

    Hello George / Viacheslav, thks to both for responding.
    BODS is based on 4.0 never was migrated from 3.2
    Under this repository almost 30 jobs currently running with no issues, which were created and scheduled before this error started.
    THis error message started just two months ago, since then it is not allowing any new jobs to be executed or creating any new schedules.
    But all prior jobs are running fine no issues.
    FRom designer i am able to execute with no problem, This issue is only happening on Mgmt console and only in this repository.
    Repository name has no apostrophe, all repsositories have the same style naming convention.

    Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
    While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. This seems to help with partial downloads...
    If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • How to set role which can issue only one command

    I am thinking about setting role, which will be allowed to issue olny one command. I have created role test. Which has the following entries in the following files:
    /etc/user_attr
    test::::profiles=OneCommand;type=role
    /etc/security/exec_attr
    OneCommand:solaris:cmd:::/tmp/data.sh:euid=0
    After this I sill could issue all comands, not only test command /tmp/data.sh.
    When I issued comand profiles on test role I received the following:
    bash-3.00$ profiles test
    OneCommand
    Basic Solaris User
    All
    So I commented line in the /etc/policy.conf to read:
    #PROFS_GRANTED=Basic Solaris User
    After that, when I try to issue /tmp/data.sh command as a test role I receive the following error:
    $ /tmp/data.sh
    pfexec: Exec format error
    Does anybody know how to set up the role which can issue only one command ? Maybe there is a way to do this in the way which wil not affect another roles (ie, not to touch /etc/policy.conf).
    Best regards

    bash-3.00$ profiles test
    OneCommand
    Basic Solaris User
    AllFirst you need to define what already exists by default. (policy.conf)
    Then you get to change those defaults or create a new default list just for test.
    Then you get to add a role or profile for test that allows the execution of a profile shell and one command.
    Then you should test all of the user accounts to ensure that something didn't break. This step might be a little overkill.

  • JNDI obj not binding to initial context--10gRel 2 issue only,works in rel3

    hi all,
    The issue I am writing about is an issue only in OAS 10g release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) and not in release 3. I have an issue where in I am trying to bind a data source object to the initial context. This data source object reference is created dynamically and is not specified in any XML file (say like web.xml or server.xml). The business requirement driving this is that for each user we need to create a data source dynamically and attach it to the JNDI and then this JNDI name is passed on to Crystal Reports which will use this data source to retrieve its data from the DB. The code for creating the data source dynamically is as below,
    private String setDataSource(String username, String password) throws NamingException {
              String prefix = "jdbc";
              InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
              // Construct BasicDataSource reference
              Reference ref = new Reference("javax.sql.DataSource", CustomDataSourceFactory.class.getName(), null);
              ref.add(new StringRefAddr("url", xxxxxx));
              ref.add(new StringRefAddr("schema",xxxxx));
              ref.add(new StringRefAddr("xxxxxx", xxxxx));
              ref.add(new StringRefAddr("password", xxxxx));
              try {
                   ic.listBindings(prefix);
              } catch (NameNotFoundException exp) {
                   ic.createSubcontext(prefix);
              String datasourceName = prefix + "/" + oneNumber;
              ic.rebind(datasourceName, ref);
              return datasourceName;
    As you can see the reference to the data source is added dynamically. Now when I try to obtain this object by looking up the context for its JNDI name I get a object not found error. This is how I look up the object through my code,
    private void testDataSource(String dsName){
              Connection conn = null;
              Statement stmt = null;
              ResultSet rs = null;
              try {
                   InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
                   javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ic.lookup(dsName);
                   conn = ds.getConnection();
                   stmt = conn.createStatement();
                   rs = stmt.executeQuery("select sysdate from dual");

    When I do this I get this exception message --> jdbc/1562 not found in MyAPP
    jdbc/1562 is the data source JNDI name I generated in the first method and "MyAPP" is the name of my application. I decided to make the JNDI globally available in the context and hence I used "java:global/jdbc/1562" for my datasource name and even that did not work even though the JNDI name is not bound to the application in specific.
    I am really at a loss here as this is a simple add/retrieve operation to a object bound to the context. Can someone tell what is wrong here? The same code works fine in release 3 OAS and also in tomcat and websphere. Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Yogi

    OK, I seem to be getting a new exception, not sure if I did any change but ran into this exception in the logs,
    11/08/24 18:45:08 ----YOGI----the exception from this specific block is javax.naming.Reference cannot be cast to javax.sql.DataSource*
    From what I read on the web, this is prevalent in glassfish and jboss. The reason could be that missing j2ee.jar in classpath or duplicate jdbc jars. I added j2ee.jar to my application library in oc4j dint resolve the issue. I removed jdbc jar from the OAS lib folder and restarted, it dint help.
    Any other clues, anyone?
