Router disconnects over 20 times a day.

Hello
Since November last year that I have been troubled with constant disconnects from my router which leads to quite a bit of frustration, I have posted on this forum 2 times since then and my problem persists, the first time an engineer came over and after a few tests detected that there was a problem with my line and "fixed" it, after 7 days of stable connection, which was the recommended time to see an improvement on my line, it went back to disconnecting several times a day, posted again in the forum and sent an email to a mod explaining my problem, he got back to me and said the same thing the engineer said, there is a problem with my line and he would "fix" it, now for 2 weeks it did get fixed, didn't had a single disconnect, the line was up for 10+ days up to the day when I reported back to the mod and after seeing that my line was stable he recommended me to reset the router to improve the Internet speed as it was locked at under 4MB dl, at this point the festival of disconnects restarted up until today, just yesterday it disconnected 10 times in 1 hour, I'm really trying to keep a positive feeling about this and that it will be fixed but it has been almost a year already.

now my issue isnt even the speed anymore, 5MB i can live with, what i can't live with is a connection that drops several times a day, it can't even stay up for more then half a day.

I would go back to the mods as they helped before

    Hi Jennifer @ Verizon
A simple reboot of the router and cantenna is not going to permanently fix this issue. Its been going on at least since August 2012. The issue is a bad software on the cantenna and its affecting areas such as KY, GA, TN, and OH.  I have emailed the manufacturer of the cantenna, I think its PCI and they emailed me telling me that its a known issue but no idea when it will be fixed. It could be a few week or a few months or possibly at least a year.
I think what Verizon should do is refund the money including installation and any fees paid for the service to all affected customers and take down the service until fixed or find a new manufacturer for the Cantenna or work with the engineers with PCI to come up with firmware fix asap. This issue is obviously affecting enough customers where telling your customers to wait is not going to work anymore. I don't mind waiting if I know that a fix is definitely coming and an actual date. Its very frustrating to have a company not support their customers in coming up with a fix on this asap such as a solution within the next 2 weeks. I was in the middle of taking another exam and got an F on it because your service disconnected me.
I think I might join the bandwagon and if this issue is not fixed by the end of January 2013 I'll be calling for a full refund. I am not confident that a permanently fix will be generated by Jan 2013 which is sad. Is anyone else with me - I mean what is it going to take for Verizon to come up with a solution on this permanently. The sad part of all of this is Verion tells me its an issue with a firmware on the cantenna and the manufacturer of the cantenna tells me to  be patient and wait for a fix and when I pressed the issue some more, the manufacturer of the cantenna tells me Verizon has to approve the fix but Verizon says they are waiting for a fix from the manufacturer. So, I am not sure what it is.

  • Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Actually it does with Ethernet too: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What happens when the Mac goes to sleep (not just into idle mode or display sleep)?
    On all Macs:
The microprocessor goes into a low-power mode
Video output is turned off, and a connected display may turn off or enter its own idle state
Apple-supplied hard disks spin down; third-party hard disks may spin down
    On portable Macs:
The Ethernet port turns off, if applicable (see note below)
    Expansion card slots turn off
The built-in modem, if present, turns off (see note below)
An AirPort card, if present, turns off (see note below)
The USB ports only responds to the power key on an external keyboard (see below)
The optical media drive, if present, spins down
Audio input and output turns off
Keyboard illumination, if a feature of your portable computer, turns off
But see the note about selecting, "Wake For Network Access" in Energy Saver preferences.
Note: Portable computers have no network connectivity when in sleep mode, but can wake if the Energy Saver option "Wake for network access" is enabled. If you wish to use file sharing or don't want to interrupt your Internet connection, you should not manually put the computer to sleep, and you should drag the "Computer sleep" slider to Never.

  • NAT slooows over time (2 days) for http users. Proxy users OK.

We recently applied NW6 sp4 to a stable BM 3.7 server. Now internal
dynamic NATed http users experience a progressive slow down over about 2
days at which time browsing is functional but not usable. Proxy users
    still get screamingly fast performance.

Problem appears to be resolved. I applied BM37FP4A and after 3 days NATed
HTTP connections are normal. Proxy performance is still very fast. I had
previously reapplied bm37sp3 which did not solve the problem.
FYI: About 1/2 of our 800 or so connections use dynamic NAT. We plan on
switching all users to proxy this week. Thanks Craig.

  • Wired NIC Atheros AR8152 v1.1 disconnects over time

    Hello!
I'm having a bad time with my Atheros AR8152 nic, when i connect to a wired network it just disconnects past a few minutes.
    Some context information:
    lspci -v:
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8152 v1.1 Fast Ethernet (rev c1)
Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device ff1e

    lsmod:
    atl1c 35119 0
After the OS boots, i perform dhclient enp1s0 or dhcpcd enp1s0 and i can manage to connect to the wired network for a few seconds, at most a couple minutes:
    PING www.google.com (173.194.42.19) 56(84) bytes of data.

But then the network connection drops down:

In order to reconnect, the only way i found is restarting the router and putting down/up enp1s0 and running dhclient enp1s0 again. Then start again all over...
It may look like a router problem, but i'm using the same router with a debian box set with dhcp and ethernet connection works fine.
Some additional information: when i installed the base system, i did it via this nic and it went smooth. Maybe an upgrade broke this?
I've been searching the forums but couln't find a similar case to mine. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
PD: Sorry about my bad grammar, english is not my mother language :P

Hi. I'm experiencing the same problem on my NB too!(using Atheros AR8151)
It happens commonly when I play facebook game.
I also found out that even doing nothing(just idling my NB) for some times it will happen.
When it happens, I have to unplug my ethernet cable then plug it to let NetworkManager to reconnect to temporarily solve this problem.
I've been using Archlinux on this NB for two years. Can't remember exact when this problem first occurs. Maybe in a month.

  • Internet connection locks-up have to reset router 3-4 times a day

    Router Actiontec GT704-WG
Sometimes I am able to reach the router from Firefox or IE and it indicates no problems, but I cannot connect to the internet or ping any addresses.
Other times I cannot even get to the router.
Turning off the router and then back on will fix the problem for a while but it might only be for 30min some times it stays working for several hours.
I have spent a ridiculous amount of time on the phone with "tech support" and gotten absolutely nowhere.

#1 Info request: Are you using a wired or wireless connection to the Actiontec GT704-WG?
#2 Info request: Do you only have one computer OR you have at least two computers?
Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
        1 gw1-g-vlan201.dca.giganews.com (216.196.98.4) 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms
        2 ash-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.70.241) 39 ms 7 ms 7 ms
        3 TenGigE0-2-0-0.GW1.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.125.125.41) 4 ms 4 ms GigabitEthernet2-0-0.GW8.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.65.76.189) 4 ms
        4 so-7-1-0-0.PHIL-CORE-RTR1.verizon-gni.net (130.81.20.137) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
        5 P3-0-0.PHIL-DSL-RTR11.verizon-gni.net (130.81.13.170) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
        6 static-71-242-*-*.phlapa.east.verizon.net (71.242.*.*) 32 ms 32 ms 33 ms
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
If you look around the ActionTec's System Status pages, you should find a section called DSL that will show the Transceiver Statistics. I can't tell you for sure where they are as I've never seen an ActionTec modem in person.
#3 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
If you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to click the "Solution?" button so that others can more easily find it. If anyone has been helpful to you, please show your appreciation by clicking the "Kudos" button.

  • Disconnecting Several Times Per Day, Could It Be T...

Ethernet - disconnecting at random times, perhaps 5 times in 5 minutes then stable again for a few hours. It also seems to knockout my ethernet connection, so when the hubs turns to blue again I'm still unable to connect.  I have to right click my network, disable and then re-enable. Windows 7 x64.  The BT rep said I needed an engineer as I had a possible fault, but this also happened in my last home? Surely I cannot be this unlucky?  Anyhow the only thing that seems to have stayed with me it the hub?  Is it possible its the culprit?
    What I have done:
    - Moved house (yes it's that annoying )
    - Master socket/test socket (old home, this house does not have one, I've opened them all).
    - Remove bell wire
    - Changed all filters
    - Tried removing every phone
    - Changed ethernet lead
    - Changed RJ11
    - Had several different motherboards
    - Removed all possible cables
    - Kept everything in the room unplugged except for computer/monitor.
    Chaz
    TNT

It's a 2.0 Hub, about 5 years old.  Tried a wired connection to the master socket with no success.  The only thing that has been a constant is the ISP and the modem, everything else has changed at some point.  It seems to happen more under stress, just like after I ran that BT Speed Test.

  • Several times a day my HP Laptop disconnects and reconnects to my WRT600N router.

    I’ve installed a new WRT600N.  (Firmware Version: 1.01.35 build 5_20080115).
My install was a “Linksys EasyLink Advisor” guided and is generic.  SPI Firewall Protection is enabled.  Security Mode is enabled for WPA-Personal.
The laptop I use with router is an HP/Compaq 6710b (also new), running XP Pro.  The built-in WiFi adapter is a “G” type (Intel PRO/Wireless 394ABG) with “Windows Wireless Network Connection” enabled.
Presently I don’t use the “N” capability of the router.  However, I plan buy a 2nd laptop with an “N” WiFi adapter soon.
The router works well…most of the time. Signal strength is “Very Good”.  However, several times a day my HP Laptop disconnects and reconnects to the router.
Each time this happens I get a “Linksys EasyLink Advisor” prompt stating “Network Problem!...the connection to the router is not working”.
After experimentation I realize that most often the connection will restore by itself…or worst case; I can re-detect and restore the connection using either the “Linksys EasyLink Advisor”  wizard OR the “Windows Wireless Network Connection” wizard.
Besides losing the connection, the most annoying part of this is that after the connection is restored and the “Linksys EasyLink Advisor” wizard message remain indicating: “Network Problem!...the connection to the router is not working”.
    Suggestions?

There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching from WEP to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless n routers, try setting the "n Transmission Rate" to 162 Mbps, and the (wireless g) "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Disconnecting roughly at the same time every day.

    Hi
I hope I have posted this in the right forum.
I have a homehub 5 and I am currently on BT Infinity 2.
Every day between 17:00-17:20 my router disconnects and reboots itself. I've noticed in the Boot section of the Hub's Event Log the words "Watchdog Reset". Is there a problem with my router?
The disconnects happen whether I'm using the internet or not.
Below is an small portion of the HH5 boot log.

Last week I noticed that my router was disconnecting every night at around 9:00pm.
Since last weekend it has changed its routine and now disconnects at around 11:00pm. I have also had the watchdog reset message in the log but only once.

Also, do you see any of the CWMP messages like the one in my log, happening at around the same time?
I suspect that these CWMP are somehow triggering the disconnections, and it has something to do with the last firmware update that happened mid-January.
Someone suggested that I should perform a factory reset of the hub.
I'm a little reluctant to do so as this turns the openwifi service back on as default, and in the past I have had problems restoring my backed up settings. as the saved config file was corrupted.
I am considering giving the factory reset a go when I have some time at the weekend.
You may want to give it a go also.
Yes, it seems I have the CWMP messages as well.
I have just done a factory reset on my home hub 5 and will keep an eye on it over the next few days.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Home Fusion disconnecting dozens of times per day.  Is there a fix?

As of a approximately a month ago, my Home Fusion systems disconnects dozens of times per day.  I'm not exaggerating!  I have logs to prove it.  There's a 50-50 chance it will reconnect on it's own after a few minutes.  Then again there's also a 50-50 chance it will not reconnect, at which point I have to (pick one):
         a) reboot the cantenna from the router pages;
         b) unplug the cantenna and plug it back in;
         c) unplug the cantenna and the router, wait 30 seconds, plug in the cantenna, wait 30 seconds, plug in the router.  (This was recommended by tech support on the phone as the best way to get back the connection);
          d) reset the cantenna to the factory settings;
         e) reset the router to the factory settings.
None of these makes any difference.  I have to do one of the above at least 12 times a day.  There are many more times when it disconnects, then reconnects on it's own.  The system will usually reconnect after 5 minutes, sometimes not. I've had multiple phone calls to tech support, only to hear the same thing, do one of the above.  A few times a day the system will reconnect after doing one of the above, only to disconnect again after 3-5 minutes.  It is bad all hours of the day, but worst in the late afternoons, evenings, and night.   This is absolutely horrid.
It's not my computers either.  The 'diagnostics' for the router and cantenna (which allow you to ping addresses) fail as well when the system isn't working.
My wife and I both work from home, both engineers.  I need a stable connection to work.  My kids have online homework (worksheets, drills, etc) most nights.  How do you deal with a elementary schooler in tears because he can't finish his homework because the connection goes down three times in a half hour while he's trying to get a target math drill score?
One support tech told me a fix would be coming out by the end of February, or early March.  That's weeks away!  Very stressful.  Another told me there was a firmware fix, but it's being rolled out incrementally.  Can't Verizon get that to those who are affected most?  Can we roll back to an earlier version of the cantenna firmware that was stable?  I was told no.

I have the same problem. My Home Fusion set up works great sometimes and then other times, nothing. I can usually reboot the cantenna and router (usually have to do a few times) to get everything working. Usually have to do this 2-3 times a week (sometimes more.)
    My Method:
    1. Sign into router (192.168.1.1)
    2. Go to the Advanced tab
    3. Reboot the cantenna (HBA)
    4. Wait 1 minute
    5. Reboot the router (HBR)
    6. Take a walk, fingers crossed
    7. Test to see if system working
    8. If not working, repeat these steps (may take 3-4 tries!)
Good luck and let me know if this works for you!

Not only that but my Mac Pro keep running and does not stop, my Address book has a blue light under it but wont open, the light for my monitor in the bottom right corner wont turn on or off. Please need help...

It sounds like there is an issue with the Mac itself.
Use the verify disk A5 in troubleshooting.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Even if you cannot connect by ethernet, at current location.. you can simply disconnect the TC from the network and bring it to the Mac and plug it in by ethernet. The TC can be reset if you haven't got a suitable current setup (save previous setup before you change it) and run just as backup device.. do the backup and then return it to the network.
If this is just a standard incremental backup.. then something has broken. The issue is not the TC pe se but failure in hardware somewhere.

  • Need to unplug router several times a day

over the last few days I have had to unplug and then plug in my router several times a day in order to make connection to the internet, has anyone else have this problem, if so how do you fix it?

    All,
I posted this in another tread as well.. wanted to get as many opinions as possible..
I am also having the same issue on the WRT54Gx2… reflashed, hard reset, called tech support, ISP, wired or wireless, leave the wired PC on , turn it off, no cordless phones, no interference, full bars, changed security protocol, bands, shows it is hooked up, yet will not work. Not over heating. Worked on wireless not on wired… at the same time, to recycle I would kick off the wireless that is working, so I was dead in the water… arrrgggg  .
Happens everyday. Yesterday, unplugged and recycled about 10 times.
Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. First time posting here..
Disgraceful that linksys does not step in.. obvious issue on numerous boards.
    Thanks again for any suggestions..

  • Airport Extreme disconnecting 2-4 times a day

I have a DSL 300-T ADSL Modem (not a router) bought from the Apple shop connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). I live in the UK and am using a PPOA connection with Orange Broadband.
Unfortunately, there are frequent disconnections (probably at least 3 times a day). During all these times, the modem is connected to the internet, but the AEBS either remains green showing no problems even though it has self-assigned a private IP address for itself (169.xx.xx.x). At other times, the AEBS blinks amber and says ethernet unplugged when it isn't.To make matters worse, the Base station then cannot reconnect because it cannot scan it, even though it's 2 feet away from my MacBook. Ironically it scans for networks outside my house before mine!
I've tried many 'solutions' from the Apple Discussions pages but none has worked for me.
It's a curious problem, but it's very annoying not having a reliable AEBS connection. I was hoping the issue would have been resolved in Snow Leopard but the issue remains.

About 10 days ago I purchased a 15" MBP for my wife as an early Birthday and Christmas present.
Since that time we have experienced problems very similar to what other people are posting. Internet works fine but suddenly we lose connection to the Airport Extreme. All I have to do is unplug the Airport Extreme and wait 10-30 sec, re-plug and we are up and running again.
I have tried the power down everything from the cable (Time Warner) modem to the computer and restart. Still, get network shutdowns every 30 min to 4 hours. Very frustrating.
Currently we have 3 apple laptops, 2 iMacs, 2 Windows XP laptops and two video consoles that utilize the network.
Where should I read for the best information on changing my airport extreme network to a 192.168.1.x set-up? Honestly does not sound like fun but looks like I might need to do it.
    Thanks,

You are unfortunately out of luck with an Intel Mac and OS X 10.4.11<br />
Best would be to update to OS X 10.5 or later if you want to use Firefox 4 and later versions (current is 8.0).<br />
There is a Firefox 8 compatible third-party version TenFourFox from www.floodgap.com for a PowerPC Mac, but no alternative for an Intel Mac with Mac OS X 10.4.
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • WRT54G - router/DHCP dies a few times a day

I have the same problem - WRT54G - all the machines at our place are macs with various flavors of OS X - mostly 10.4. Every few days - sometimes 4 times a day, the router stops working - basically the DHCP server stops giving out valid IP addresses and nobody - wired or wireless - can connect the the internet. It still appears to be connected the the net via the cable modem, its just the router part that is failing. This is very disappointing. Unplugging the WRT54G fixes it - but sometimes the same problem will happen 15 minutes later.
