Router disconnects while D/L'ing?

I am having trouble with my router and downloading.  I have a Dell laptop that I use wireless with my Linksys router, a WRT54Gv2.  I can download a file from mIRC as long as the speed doesn't get over 200kb/s.  If it goes over that speed while wireless it will lose the wireless connection.  To get the connection back I have to turn off the laptop antenna and then turn it back on and wait for it to acquire a signal again.  Then I can get back on line.  I have a 5MB internet speed and can never seem to get to those speeds.  If I connect the laptop wired to the router it will download at speeds over 200kb/s and sometimes over 300kb/s without any connectivity problems.  What can I do to fix the wireless to where I no longer loose my connection and can download at speeds over the 200kb/s where I usually get disconnected?
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

First of all what type of downloading are you doing? For instance I download lots of content off Bit torrent and have had connection issues in past. I solved these by putting the port that the program uses as low priority.
If your using bit torrent or a similar program you wont get the fastest speed. Also I have a 6Mbps comcast connection comcast does NOT gaurentee speeds. If its a cable connection then you have to share that line with every one in your neighborhood and so on.
Some solutions:
A) Go in a change the routers speed to a lower one this should increase the range and reliability of the signal.
B) Upgrade the firmware of your router and upgrade the wireless cards drivers. Make sure you get the driver from linksys don't use a Microsoft Driver because Microsoft does not do a good job on any software that they make.
C) Go in to the QoS options and set the port number to a lower priority. In this case you will have to deal with lower download speeds.
I just want to mention that a 200kpbs - 300kbps speed is not too bad considering I get about the same download speeds through comcast. I know you don't want to hear it but they are not bad.
D) If you want to stay connected consider hooking it up wired. Just for big downloads.
E) If you want faster downloads consider a fiber optic connection. I know you can get one for as low as $45-$60 a month if you get the Verizon FIOS internet, however its only offered in 13 states.
F) Try another router to see if that is it, for some reason your router may have some technical problem.

  • My WRT546 router disconnects while sending files over MSN

My brother was sending pictures to his gf over MSN, and every time he tried, the connection went dead. Now I tested this by having him send the picture over MSN while I constantly ping the router, when he tried to send it, the connection dies. Any idea on how to fix this problem?

Few things you can try are :
Disable all firewall on the computer ....
Check the firmware on the router ..... if required upgrade ...download the latest firmware from linksys website ......
Access set up page ....look for MTU size under setup .... change it to 1365 ...click save settings ...

I share your pain with same Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn.  After many, many hours yesterday I am now solidly running Wireless N at 144 Mbps on a LinkSys E4200, 99% reception from 30 feet away.
Previous to yesterday I could not get 'N' to work at all.
First, if you have a newer dual frequency Router, this Intel adapter only supports 2.4ghz..
    1. I am using Access Connections 5.85, Windows 7
    2. Router: 2.4 Ghz Network Mode: Mixed
    3. On my LinkSys router Channel: Auto NEVER worked for either  'G' or 'N'.  I picked channel 4 by chance and things got better.  No further experiments.
    3. Channel Width: Auto (20mhz or 40mhz).
    4. Earlier forums indicate WPA2-P and AES must be selected.  That's what I am running.
    5. Numerous references to "power" conflicts.  Set all Power Management to Maximum Power.
(Control Panel -> Device Manager ->Network Adapters -> Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn -> Power Management)
(Access Connections -> Wireless Settings -> 4. Advanced Configuration-> Maximum Performance)
If you followed these steps, Wireless G should be working stabily for you now.
Now for the secret sauce to make Wireless N work:  go to http://communities.intel.com/message/82098#82098
See Feb 3, 2010 post How to get 5100 AGN to connect at N speed?
I am indebted to this guy.
Save the instructions!  For some reason my EDGE 14 wireless totally quit this week and that's what sent me down this wireless rabbit hole again.  At least this time I was able to make N mode work for the first time.
    Frustrated but relieved,

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

Recently My ipad 2 has not been able to get a full charge and after repeat attempts manages a 95% charge. i updated to iOS 8.1.3. and my ipad disconnects while trying to update and cant complete syncing / copying of apps. it just keeps rebooting itself!

    Howdy frakie,
If you are having an issue with your iPad restarting itself, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If your iOS device restarts, displays the Apple logo, or powers off while you're using it - Apple Support
In particular, since you are already using the latest version of the operating system -
If you still see this issue after updating, contact Apple Support.

    Hello
    I have an emergecy question
Is there any problem running again  "bdls" after being disconnected while running it (my network connecton to laptop got broken)
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
Be sure that it does not continue to run. If it was really interrupted, yes, you must run it again. Otherwise you would have a lot of inconsistancies.

  • Magic mouse disconnecting while I'm using it.

My magic mouse which I purchased less that a month age at a cost of $75.00 CD is constantly disconnecting while I'm using it. This disconnect will last for about 10-15 seconds but it will happen over and over again. Also, if I'm away from the computer for a short amount of time, I have to re-start it because the mouse is disconnected…everything just dies. This never happened with my old mouse..I only had to tap it and everything would start up again. I would get a refund on it but I lost the receipt - so I'm stuck.
Is there a solution to this nuisance problem???

Hi..I finally got a message saying that the batteries were low - so I replaced them. I bought the mouse less than a month ago and they were the original batteries but still, that's a bit soon for the batteries to run out.  Is it preferable to actually turn  the mouse OFF by turning off the green light on the back of the mouse, or does that happen automatically when you are not using the computer even though it's still on?
My computer is on most of the day even though I may not be actually using it. I don't want to have to replace batteries once a month. Also, the ones I have now are the rechargeable batteries…guess that ok.
    Thanks for your reply!

  • Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Actually it does with Ethernet too: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What happens when the Mac goes to sleep (not just into idle mode or display sleep)?
    On all Macs:
The microprocessor goes into a low-power mode
Video output is turned off, and a connected display may turn off or enter its own idle state
Apple-supplied hard disks spin down; third-party hard disks may spin down
    On portable Macs:
The Ethernet port turns off, if applicable (see note below)
    Expansion card slots turn off
The built-in modem, if present, turns off (see note below)
An AirPort card, if present, turns off (see note below)
The USB ports only responds to the power key on an external keyboard (see below)
The optical media drive, if present, spins down
Audio input and output turns off
Keyboard illumination, if a feature of your portable computer, turns off
But see the note about selecting, "Wake For Network Access" in Energy Saver preferences.
Note: Portable computers have no network connectivity when in sleep mode, but can wake if the Energy Saver option "Wake for network access" is enabled. If you wish to use file sharing or don't want to interrupt your Internet connection, you should not manually put the computer to sleep, and you should drag the "Computer sleep" slider to Never.

  • Ipads Disconnecting While Roaming (WPA2, 802.1x, Radius)

We are having an issue that is apparently only affecting Apple Ipads. These are user devices that we are allowing connections to "Guest" SSID through an anchor to our DMZ. Once it was connected back there's no project in the event, I can't find it in Finder nor anywhere else and I get a yellow triangular exclamation sign icon. Has the project disappeared? Is there a way to find it? I have no backup

There is something Definitely wrong with iOS 7 regarding DATA USAGE being logged to wireless carrier in for WIFI instead.
I read all the previous replies and same issue.
I rarely use my mac to sync....its all wifi sync for the last 2 years....never had this issue before... and i know it began with iOS7.... here is why....
My iPhone was at home when I updated to iOS7 connected to wifi...but it logged Data Usage to Rogers Wireless (700MB approx)...data will never do an update over 50mb in app store (it gives the warning to use wifi) I play a lot of games and pay for them so I always update through App Store.  2 weeks later, simposons halloween update (650mb)...at home, using wifi.
Rogers told me there was 700+mb data usage on the day of update and 650+mb data on oct 1.st (tapped out).
Went over my 6GB plan and paid the fees.
This has never happened before...It must come to apples attention by now...

  • Addon disconnected while retrieving huge data using orecordset on client

    Hi,
My addon is using orecordset to retrieve about 11000 records on client pc and the addon disconnected while processing half way. When I trace the error, it seems like when the server fetches the records back to client pc, the addon disconnected. However, it's run perfectly on the server.
This addon has another function that fetches a small records using orecordset and it's working fine on the client pc.
Is there a limitation of using orecordset to fetch huge volume of data?
