Router dropping my internet signal every 3-10 minutes

I just signed up with Verizon/FIos in January so I could improve my internet speed.  I'm a Professor and Filmmaker and I download and stream videos all the time for work and recreation.  I noticed that while streaming I would lose the connection and the film would drop out.  I thought perhaps that my AppleTV or another device was interfering with the router signal.  I checked every device and have repeatedly turned the router off and back on again.  I've also looked at other forums involving similar issues with routers and what not and they all point to the router not working.  I wanted faster internet but I can't get it to do what I need it to.  Can I get a new router?  Is this really the issue?

Hello not sure what router you have but I upgraded to the new faster FIOS gateway G1100 in late December and have had nothing but issues with Internet. My internet dies 3 to 4 times a day and I have to reboot router or ONT ( either works ) to get it back. I have been sent 2 routers with no change. Now they say the problem is my ONT and they need to replace it. They told me others customers are having same issue. I have been waiting now 3 days for them to schedule to replace the ONT. This is very frustrating.

    When I drain my iPhone completly & plug it in to charge (USB wall charger not USB port on laptop), after the 5-10 mins with the red lightening screen when the phone comes back on my wifi router drops it's signal, this has been happening for a while now so I got into the habit of turning wifi off on iPhone just before it was due to completly die so when it came back on the router didn't drop it's signal & it wasn't that much of a problem doing this once a week.
    However things are getting worse now, if I leave my house & my wifi is on, when I return home it's doing the same thing & making the router drop out. I can't be messing around turning wifi on & off everytime I return home.
    I have also just had to reset my iPhone & once again when it turned back on the router dropped out.
    Anyone any idea why it's doing this & how to stop it other than turning wifi on & off?

    Hi all. I have a WRT54G version 8 router and I have it hardwired to my PC. The router has been losing the signal every 10 minutes or so, ever since I updated the firmware from version 5? which is what came stock on the router, to version 8.00.5. When it started happening, which was right away, I downgraded the firmware to 8.00.2. It was successful, but I was still losing the signal.

    Try changing the wireless channel on the router ...
    Also Click on Advanced Wireless
    settings>>Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation
    Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ....
    See if the PS is works fine not

    Hello!  My internet disconnects every so often for about a minute, then reconnects.  I don't see any patterns regarding time of day or weather.  Verizon says it's not an issue on their end.  Here are my stats:

    Yes, attached to the Westell 6300 is a D-Link wireless router WBR 1310. I don't have a house phone. I have a separate telephone line for the fax machine, and it has a DSL filter attached to it. I don't know what a micro-filter is.

  • Router dropping the internet connection

    Hi,
    I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:
    -reboot Linksys
    -disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box
    -if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.
    The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:
    -changed the wifi channels
    -changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on
    -booted the fiber box
    -changed cables
    -updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers
    ...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. 
    For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). 
    Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless. 
    Does anyone have any ideas what the cause could be?. I've exhausted all my good ideas so I'd be thankful for any suggestions

    You can try the following combination of settings:-
    A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
              1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
              2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
             3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
             4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
     For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
     For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
             5] Then click on Security tab disable SPI Firewall Protection, uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...
    B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

    I'm having the following issue: sincer i've done the iOS 4.3.5 update the Personal Hotspot doesn't work fine anymore on my iPhone 4. My Windows 7 Laptop or the ipad are loosing connection each more or less 10 minutes. I have tried to connect the phone to the Laptop via Cable (not only WiFi) and I have the same issue.
    The phone is neverlocked.
    I've already tried to reset the network settings but the issue is still there.

    We are having the same issues on our two iPad 1's.  The only thing we have not done yet, in addition to your list above, is turn off the router. 
    From seasoned iPad users (we've only had our a few months):   how long doe it take Apple to fix this type of blunder? 
    This is so frustrating.  I used to rave about my iPad, but if this is my new life with it:  dropped connections, half loaded pages, stalled out pages, a multitude of strange error messages, this is not a product I can rave about.  I miss my "old" iPad!

    It is tricky..
    But yes it can be done as long as you use a different IP subnet to what is being used for the internet..
    So I need to know what modem router you have?? Does it have wireless as that would make it very easy?
    What IP is the computer getting?
    Then I can give you the details to setup wireless statically on a different subnet.

    The flashing WLAN light means activity (data getting transferred). Try disconnecting all your devices and check whether the light is still flashing or disconnect the router from internet and do the check.
    Do you have your SSID as linksys or the default one? If your neighbor has the same SSID, then traffic could result from your neighbor's one. Try changing your SSID and password. Make your security WPA/WPA2.

    It seems to me that routers are designed to connect directly to the internet by programming their firmware with connection info.
    I'd like to connect a computer to the internet, then connect a router to that computer.
    Essentially, I want a internet signal that comes through a computer before being made wireless. Is that possible?

    To connect the computer to the Internet you still need some physical component, for example a wireless USB dongle. So if you want to have the Mac connecting to the Internet and then share this connection to other devices using wireless, then you can enable Internet Sharing on the Mac and select to share its Airport (wireless) connection to the other devices (which turns the Mac into a form of access point). Then the other wireless devices can connect to the Mac and use the Mac's Internet connection, which could be a wireless USB dongle or an Ethernet connection to a cable modem.

  • I have a Airport Extreme that is dropping the wireless signal alot (several times a day). The green light will go amber but the internet service (ethernet cable) will still be fine. The wireless icon on devices with go away.

When the light goes amber all devices that is using wireless will lose there wireless icon. The only way to get the green light back is to unplug the Airport device and replug it back in.     Let's see if I can get this straight.
    You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
    Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...

    I've been having an annoying problem with my linksys router. I currently have 3 devices recieving a wireless internet signal in my house from my router. The problem is, when one device connects to the internet all the other ones get booted off for approximately 10 seconds. For example I will be using my PC and someone turns on their laptop; I automatically get booted along with any other systems wirelessly connected to the internet(ps3,xbox.) I have all the current patches and any linksys phone support approved configurations. If anyone has heard of this problem or suspect what the problem may be please let me know.     I'm not sure which details you require but I have a linksys Wireless-G router hardwired to my PC. This router provides internet directly to my laptop, and gaming consoles. They are relatively close; only one room away from eachother and the signal strength is usually strong. I'm using WEP security and all the systems have a different assigned IP address(192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.5) If you need any further details please let me know. Thank you for your help.

  • WRT54G router Ver 6 internet drop

    This one connect to a DSL modem from comcast was working fine after a few days the connection is gone. Cannot go on the internet, when I click on router status everything is on zero (IP, subnet mask, and Gateway). However when I just installed it, it pick up everything (IP, subnet, and Gateway) I set it up on  automatic configuration (DHCP) I gave a name to the router, I put it on channel 6, and I click save. Then for security I choose WEP, and I click save. So, could you please help me find the reason why everything is on zero. I did reset it, it still doing the same thing. Open my laptop it sees the router, but no internet. Router lights are blinking like there is some activity however nothing. Any help please

    Have you checked the connection from the Modem when you loose the internet from the router...?
