Router drops 2nd night in a row, internet light is amber! Also I need a tech to upgrade to 50/20??

I called yesterday to troubleshoot my internet, it turns out that the ont needed to be reset.  I decided while I was on the phone, to inquire about upgrading my service.  I told them I wanted 50/20 so they started to provision my line only to find out I would need a tech to roll out to perform the upgrade.  At that point, I decided to just upgrade to 35/35 because I didnt want to deal with the hassle of having a a tech roll out to my house.  Why is it that I would need a tech to upgrade to 50./20?? Kinda **bleep** about that.. because that high upload for a residential service with no static ip is retarded.
Also this morning I wake up to see my internet light is amber but my power/wan coax/lan coax lights are green?? Whats the deal??
Im starting to regret making the switch to fios..

Hi,
Let me tell you something, my friend contacted fios tech support via chat because he had problems with
internet connection and speed, the fios live tech contacted some kind of  network group and they fix the problem,
Just make sure you checked everything on your side,in your case you already checked your router, but do not
forget cables and splitter (if you have),
if you unplug and reconnect your cables and the splitter is ok, will be time to contact fios tech support.
Good Luck!

  • I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light flashes amber what I need to do to get the green light back

I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light is flashing amber but I have internet connection, how can I get the green light back

When you change modem (the internet box I presume) you should reset the AE to factory and redo the setup completely.
However if you merely want to stop the amber flashing.. find the cause.
Open the airport utility and click on the AE..
It will give you a list of faults or problems... fix each one and the light will turn green.
The most likely fault is double NAT.
That means the AE should be in bridge mode.. but if you list the fault we can give you further help with what to do to fix it if you cannot understand the instructions.
Apple does give a procedure to remove the problem although it may not always be the best solution.
eg Ignore.. the light will turn green.
Lately Apple is saying to use double NAT and ignore the problem.. I do not thing that is a good idea at all.
To bridge however may be easier after a full factory reset than trying to do a change to the setup.
If you run Yosemite.. then I recommend the following.. please read AE for TC.. (Time Capsule is what I mainly use but the setup is identical).
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
In your case bridge is most likely required.. and it is up to you how you deal with this one.. for now see if it is stable.. if it gives you issues come back and fix it.
    4. Set IPv6 to link-local only on the computer..
This is strange one in that apple should have fixed this up ages ago.. but we are finding the auto setting even on Yosemite is still giving the wrong setup.

  • Wrt54gs all seems good cept internet light will not light or flash and no connection

Got a WRT54GS router. # months old. I have it hooked up to comcast. This evening . I found no net when I turned on pc. I have comcast phone and net service. So My modem also handles phone calls aswell.  On my cable modem there is a link light with is normaly flashing. When I got home my link light was dark. None of my pcs or consoles could get on the internet. I found all the lights on my router on cept the internet light. I called comcast and they verified it was my routeri I hooked this pc strait to modem and all worked fine. This is how im posting now. Ive tried newest firmware and multiple manual resets on router. I get everything but the internet light.<Internet light does not come at all.> Ilso get no net when hooked to router. If I use modem alone all is fine.
    Im hooking up an
    XBOX360
    PS3
    PC
    Wirelessly WII
    Wirelessly PSP
    Wirelessly Laptop.
My Router is WRT54 GS with latest firmware just installed. Please help me if you can All my lights come on as normal cept the internet light. And my cable modem dosent get a link from the router at all. If I hook pc direct to modem again all is ok. Its not my provider.
    Thank you.

Since the "internet" light is not coming on , i'd say that it may be a problem with the "cable" you are using between the modem and the router....if the cable is good....try this....take one CAT5 cable and plug one end into the one of the LAN ports and the other end into the internet port of the router.....check if the internet light turns on...in case it does , try connecting a "hub" between the modem and the router..... let me know what happens

  • Lost Connectivity (No Internet Light)

Just set up the "Up to 1M Dry Loop Annual Plan" and am leasing the Westell 6100 Gateway. My service was activated three days ago. Everything was fine for about 48 hours -- the primary computer (involved in setup) and three other laptops (via a wireless connection) all suffered no connectivity or speed issues.
Then, last night, I notice the "Internet" light is no longer lit. It is neither green nor red. Just unlit. All other requisite lights (DSL, Power, Ethernet) are green. However, I receive errors on the browser pages I attempt to open, suggesting that the “page cannot be found.”  All other laptops recognize my wireless network and claim to have excellent connections, respectively, but none can connect to the Internet.
Any advice? I’m restarted the modem and the computers several times with no luck.

UPDATE: Ran through diagnostics and troubleshooting with Veirzon phone support. Technician will be out to the apartment tomorrow. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

  • Router dropping my internet signal every 3-10 minutes

I just signed up with Verizon/FIos in January so I could improve my internet speed.  I'm a Professor and Filmmaker and I download and stream videos all the time for work and recreation.  I noticed that while streaming I would lose the connection and the film would drop out.  I thought perhaps that my AppleTV or another device was interfering with the router signal.  I checked every device and have repeatedly turned the router off and back on again.  I've also looked at other forums involving similar issues with routers and what not and they all point to the router not working.  I wanted faster internet but I can't get it to do what I need it to.  Can I get a new router?  Is this really the issue?

Hello not sure what router you have but I upgraded to the new faster FIOS gateway G1100 in late December and have had nothing but issues with Internet. My internet dies 3 to 4 times a day and I have to reboot router or ONT ( either works ) to get it back. I have been sent 2 routers with no change. Now they say the problem is my ONT and they need to replace it. They told me others customers are having same issue. I have been waiting now 3 days for them to schedule to replace the ONT. This is very frustrating.

  • Router drops connection

Hi, I have a WRT300N that acts as a router/DHCP in a small home network. I have a p2p program, DC++, which requires port forwarding to work correctly. I have setup this in the router, port 1412 and the computer ip address to forward to. The problem is that the router drops connection to internet now and then, with 1-2 hrs. intervals which disconnects all hubs and downloads/uploads in DC++. Very annoying indeed. This has never happened with previous routers including a 3com and a Zyxel, so it has to be something with the WRT300N. What can cause this? I'm not sure what information to send with this message, so it's better if you tell me what you need. Thanks in advance, Mattias Sarling

hi... try upgrading latest firmware on the router, go to www.linksys.com/download and download the latest firmware for the router, after upgrading firmware on the router, reset the router back to factory default settings and reconfigure it according to ISP settings, reduce MTU to 1458, try reducing connection on p2p program... also you can enable QoS to manage bandwidth.

Try rebooting the router. Just remove the power for a few seconds. No settings are lost.

  • IPhone makes my wifi router drop it's signal

When I drain my iPhone completly & plug it in to charge (USB wall charger not USB port on laptop), after the 5-10 mins with the red lightening screen when the phone comes back on my wifi router drops it's signal, this has been happening for a while now so I got into the habit of turning wifi off on iPhone just before it was due to completly die so when it came back on the router didn't drop it's signal & it wasn't that much of a problem doing this once a week.
However things are getting worse now, if I leave my house & my wifi is on, when I return home it's doing the same thing & making the router drop out. I can't be messing around turning wifi on & off everytime I return home.
I have also just had to reset my iPhone & once again when it turned back on the router dropped out.
Anyone any idea why it's doing this & how to stop it other than turning wifi on & off?

Thanks for that, just checked & I'm running the latest firmware version already
for info it's a Belkin wireless G plus router, model number FSD7231-4 version 1212uk

  • IPhone BATTERY DEAD over night after iOS 5.1 update( 2 nights in a row)

I updated my iPhone on Friday night to the "improved" iOS 5.1 software and I have now discovered that for the second night in a row, the battery is dead upon awakening in the morning with the phone having some 80% charge level when I went to sleep last night. Is anyone else having this problem after updating to the new iOS 5.1 software?
If so, ow do I fix it and what is the problem?
Thanks for taking the time to read/ respond

    Hello gdgmacguy
    1. What's the point to keep iPhone plugged in overtime during all night? Is there anything wrong if I'll restore without it? Is there any more detailed explanation?
    2. When I will restore iPhone as new, and if it resolves my problem, will I then be able to restore my data from existing backup so that to retain resolved problem?
Thank you very much for your support.

  • My pc is down and I'm trying to put a wep for this router so no one can use my internet but me. Is there anyway I can set a password with an iPad as I don't have a desktop or laptop?

My pc is down and I'm trying to put a wep for this router so no one can use my internet but me. Is there anyway I can set a password with an iPad as I don't have a desktop or a laptop. Please help.

The AirPorts, unlike routers provided by other manufacturers, do not provide a web-based administration interface ... so the PS3 or any browser would not work.

  • No internet light on router since last week

  • Router dropping fairytale...

Once apon a time...There was a Befsw1134v4 router who gave good connection for 3 years straight. Then one day it decided to drop my connection (To all my wireless and wired equipment hooked up to the router) every 2 hours, then 1 hour and 30 minutes, then 1 hour and 20 minutes. Till finally it decided to drop my connection to the main computer(Which has never happened and only started a few days ago) and all other computers and did not come back unless you did a power cycle. And the angry man lived angrily every day.
                                                             The End
hope you enjoyed the story but to break it down I'd like to know why my router drops the connection(if it is the router), and why know all of a sudden when ever my connection drops know it takes every computer with it(including the main one which has everything hooked up to it.
If more detail is necessary just let me know and any help or comments and thank for in advance.

There are several things that can cause a working router to suddenly start dropping connections.
The most common cause is using peer-to-peer (P2P) software.  If you are using any P2P programs, open the programs, and reduce the number of connections that the software is making.
Another cause is running an unsecured network.  If your network is unsecured, your neighbors may be running P2P programs over your router.  In this case, secure your router.
Another cause is problems with electrical noise.  Routers seem to be sensitive to electrical noise and surges.   To protect your router, keep it connected to a good quality surge suppressor with RFI/EMI filtering, such as the Belkin Gold Series.  A surge suppressor alone is not enough, because it does not stop anything less than 330 volts.
If these are not your problem, upgrade your router to the latest firmware, and see if that fixes the problem.

  • I skype every night with a person nearby, and the call mac-to-mac is dropped every night at exactly the same hour, to the minute.

I have an even weirder problem. I skype every night with a person nearby, and the call mac-to-mac is dropped every night at exactly the same hour, to the minute. I have to close skype and restart it and call again and then it works without problems.
I have my imac connected to hi-speed cable.
    Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

You should post in Skype forums.

  • Clicking on router in Win7 My Computer Network killed internet until router hard reset!

I blogged about a really odd bug I found in either Win7 and or the verizon fios router, check it out...
    http://gregfricke.wordpress.com/2009/12/03/how-windows-7-killed-my-verizon-fios-router/
In a nutshell, double clicking on the router in the network area in my computer, killed the broadband pipe on the router until I hard reset the router.
The verizon rep said this was news to him and he escalated it internally but I wanted to throw it out there for anyone that runs into this

I have an Actiontec router, I tried what you did and got somewhat different results:
    1) When I look at my network in Windows 7 I see "Wireless Broadband Router" not "Actiontec ...." Strange. But a right-click on the icon and selecting Properties does show the device as an Actionte.
    2) The first time I double-clicked on the router icon, nothing happened, I still had internet connectivity.
    3) When I double-clicked on the router icon a second time, I did lose internet connectivity as you did.
    4) When I logged into the router it clearly said the WAN was disconnected, same as you.
    5) I did a reboot of the router from within the router dialog. When it finished rebooting the WAN showed "connecting". After waiting a few minutes it showed "connected" and all worked normally. No hard reset required
That is strange that it does disable the WAN. But again I was able to get it back with just a reboot. I am one of the original FiOS internet users, I still have a PPPoE connection and my WAN is Ethernet not coax so that might explain the difference, I don't know.
But yeah, Verizon needs to fix that.

  • Does WRVS4400N Router require ADSL Modem to connect to Internet

    1. Does WRVS4400N Router require ADSL Modem to connect to Internet or only a cable to connect? If ADSL modem is required, what are the recommended DSL modems that work great with this router
    2. How can WRVS4400N Linksys and Trend Micro bring Advanced Internet Security Capabilities to Small Businesses
    3.  How can I benefit if it is applicable for WRVS4400N

    Hi fox_mulder ,
I would like to thank you for your answer.
Your answer for the first question was very clear that I do not need to buy ADSL modem.
For Second question, it is also clear answer. However, third answer does not answer my question which is " how can I utilize TrendMicro to prevent Spam mail through WRVS4400N Router.
